Morning & Evening -- Exodus 14:13 and Joel 2:11

MORNING:

"Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord."
-- Exodus 14:13

These words contain God's command to the believer when he is reduced to
great straits and brought into extraordinary difficulties. He cannot
retreat; he cannot go forward; he is shut up on the right hand and on
the left; what is he now to do? The Master's word to him is, "Stand
still." It will be well for him if at such times he listens only to his
Master's word, for other and evil advisers come with their suggestions.
Despair whispers, "Lie down and die; give it all up." But God would
have us put on a cheerful courage, and even in our worst times, rejoice
in his love and faithfulness. Cowardice says, "Retreat; go back to the
worldling's way of action; you cannot play the Christian's part, it is
too difficult. Relinquish your principles." But, however much Satan may
urge this course upon you, you cannot follow it if you are a child of
God. His divine fiat has bid thee go from strength to strength, and so
thou shalt, and neither death nor hell shall turn thee from thy course.
What, if for a while thou art called to stand still, yet this is but to
renew thy strength for some greater advance in due time. Precipitancy
cries, "do something. Stir yourself; to stand still and wait, is sheer
idleness." We must be doing something at once-we must do it so we
think-instead of looking to the Lord, who will not only do something
but will do everything. Presumption boasts, "If the sea be before you,
march into it and expect a miracle." But Faith listens neither to
Presumption, nor to Despair, nor to Cowardice, nor to Precipitancy, but
it hears God say, "Stand still," and immovable as a rock it stands.
"Stand still;"-keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action,
expecting further orders, cheerfully and patiently awaiting the
directing voice; and it will not be long ere God shall say to you, as
distinctly as Moses said it to the people of Israel, "Go forward."

EVENING:

"His camp is very great."
-- Joel 2:11

Consider, my soul, the mightiness of the Lord who is thy glory and
defence. He is a man of war, Jehovah is his name. All the forces of
heaven are at his beck, legions wait at his door, cherubim and
seraphim;, watchers and holy ones, principalities and powers, are all
attentive to his will. If our eyes were not blinded by the ophthalmia
of the flesh, we should see horses of fire and chariots of fire round
about the Lord's beloved. The powers of nature are all subject to the
absolute control of the Creator: stormy wind and tempest, lightning and
rain, and snow, and hail, and the soft dews and cheering sunshine, come
and go at his decree. The bands of Orion he looseth, and bindeth the
sweet influences of the Pleiades. Earth, sea, and air, and the places
under the earth, are the barracks for Jehovah's great armies; space is
his camping ground, light is his banner, and flame is his sword. When
he goeth forth to war, famine ravages the land, pestilence smites the
nations, hurricane sweeps the sea, tornado shakes the mountains, and
earthquake makes the solid world to tremble. As for animate creatures,
they all own his dominion, and from the great fish which swallowed the
prophet, down to "all manner of flies," which plagued the field of
Zoan, all are his servants, and like the palmer-worm, the caterpillar,
and the cankerworm, are squadrons of his great army, for his camp is
very great. My soul, see to it that thou be at peace with this mighty
King, yea, more, be sure to enlist under his banner, for to war against
him is madness, and to serve him is glory. Jesus, Immanuel, God with
us, is ready to receive recruits for the army of the Lord: if I am not
already enlisted let me go to him ere I sleep, and beg to be accepted
through his merits; and if I be already, as I hope I am, a soldier of
the cross, let me be of good courage; for the enemy is powerless
compared with my Lord, whose camp is very great.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Faith Really Is...Conclusion

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Faith Really Is...Conclusion
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. Hebrews 11:39-40 NIV

We have looked for several days at the issue of what faith is. The entire eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews deals with this one subject. Verse one provides the most complete and condensed answer "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." I have tried to further illustrate that definition by expanding upon it through some of the verses that follow verse one. The fact is that I could have written similar thoughts about all forty verses in chapter eleven.

So, what does today's title mean when it says "Conclusion"? I certainly haven't told you all there is to know about faith. I doubt this will be the last Mustard Seed I ever do on the subject of faith. So what do I mean by conclusion?

Well, I conclude this look at the topic of faith the same way the writer of Hebrews did, by saying that the real conclusion to this issue is that faith is only fully understood, and the purpose of faith fully accomplished, when it is combined with our obedience to Christ at any cost. In other words, I can tell you all day what I believe faith means. I can write examples and illustrations and summaries about faith until Jesus returns. But, you will not fully understand faith until you put it into practice.

To fully understand faith you need to begin trusting in Christ no matter what life has thrown at you. You have to use your faith; invest your faith; rely on your faith before you will really appreciate what faith is and what it means in your personal walk with Christ.

Trusting in Christ no matter what, and acting accordingly: that really is faith!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Disposition And Deeds"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 24, 2008

DISPOSITION AND DEEDS

Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness
of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter
into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:20
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+5:20&sr=1

The characteristic of a disciple is not that he does good things, but
that he is good in motive because he has been made good by the
super-natural grace of God. The only thing that exceeds right-doing
is right-being. Jesus Christ came to put into any man who would let
Him a new heredity which would exceed the righteousness of the
scribes and Pharisees. Jesus says - If you are My disciple you must
be right not only in your living, but in your motives, in your
dreams, in the recesses of your mind. You must be so pure in your
motives that God Almighty can see nothing to censure. Who can stand
in the Eternal Light of God and have nothing for God to censure? Only
the Son of God, and Jesus Christ claims that by His Redemption He can
put into any man His own disposition, and make him as unsullied and
as simple as a child. The purity which God demands is impossible
unless I can be remade within, and that is what Jesus has undertaken
to do by His Redemption.

No man can make himself pure by obeying laws. Jesus Christ does not
give us rules and regulations; His teachings are truths that can only
be interpreted by the disposition He puts in. The great marvel of
Jesus Christ's salvation is that He alters heredity. He does not
alter human nature; He alters its mainspring.

PREPAREDNESS

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Thessalonians+5:1-11

Dear Father,

Grant that we may live as sons of the light and daughters of the
day. Grant that we may understand the prophecies of Jesus and his
servants regarding the day of the Lord.

Help us to stay awake, to be sober, to be ready. Clothe us with
the breastplate of faith and love. Protect us with the helmet of
salvation!

We thank you, Father, that you have not destined us for wrath, but
to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us
so that whether we wake or sleep, we might live for him.

Grant that we may encourage one another and build one another up
through these words and through sharing our faith.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

Least and Greatest

"Many people that have the highest place now will have the
lowest place in the future. And the people that have the
lowest place now will have the highest place in the future."

-- Mark 10:31 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
God evaluates people differently than most earthly judges, critics, and
cultures do. Those who appear to be lowly, unimportant, backward,
impoverished, broken, and meek will be valued as precious by God. Is it
because he favors the poor and the weak over the strong and the rich?
Not necessarily. However, God does cherish the person who serves others
regardless of his or her station in life. He does care deeply for the
person who recognized her or his need for God's love, mercy, and grace.
God does recognize the genuine humility of a person who has suffered
because he or she would not compromise on integrity issues. So those
who have cheated their way to the top and thereby gained fame and
recognition will not be the ones God honors. No, it will be the people
they stepped on who refused to give up on faith, morality, integrity,
honesty, and Christian values. It will be the people who served others
-- even those who abused them -- in the name of Christ.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, help me value others by your standards. Help me see the value
of others through your eyes. Confound my intentions when I choose the
wrong path and go the way of fame and fortune rather than faith and
service. In Jesus' name. Amen.
