Mustard Seed Thoughts: Immanuel Four

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Immanuel Four
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? Deuteronomy 4:7 NIV

Let me establish one central fact: If you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are of the nation of God.

Having said that, would you agree that there is no other nation whose god comes near to man the way our God comes near to us? Think about it. Did Buddha visit "all" his people? Did Mohammed? Go ahead! Try to have a personal conversation with one of them today.

God, since He is the One true God, loved us enough that He wanted to make a way for us to come near to Him. He wanted to be able to reach out to us, and for us to reach out to Him.

There was a problem, however. Sin, which can be defined as anything contrary to God's holiness, kept us from reaching a Holy God. Man tried all kinds of remedies, from living a so-called "good life" to trusting in our own abilities, but everything wind s up short in our attempt to get to God. For centuries the Israelites offered sacrifices, acceptable to God for the sins of the past, but nothing could remedy the real problem, we were sinners by nature.

God, therefore, out of His great love, came near to us through the gift of His Son. Jesus, born of a virgin, entered a sinful world, remaining sinless, so that He could be the perfect sacrifice; once for all; the just for the unjust. We could not get to God, so God came to us.

Through the story of Christmas, the baby in a manger, God made a provision for a sinful man to reach a Holy God. That provision is Jesus. God came near to us through Jesus! We come near to God through Jesus! This year, truly praise Him for the birth of Jesus as you celebrate the joy and wonder of Christmas!

I Want Christmas Year Round, by Steve Ridgell

We love Christmas at our house. We always have. Our children learned
to love it too. They are both married with children of their own and it
is a big deal in both of their homes. We decorate like crazy: outside
lights all over the trees and house, big tree inside, decorations
everywhere. We can't wait for cold weather, crackling fires, and
driving the neighborhoods to look at lights. We cherish the memories of
Christmas past, remembering the times when the kids were young.

But what really makes Christmas special are other things ... especially
the spirit of giving and sharing at Christmas. We love the time we get
to spend with friends and family. It is exciting to see the new
additions every year ... babies, in-laws and new friends. Much of our
Christmas time centers on eating together. We feast, we laugh, we tell
stories, and we love being together. People think about Jesus at
Christmas and I like that. I wish I could have Christmas all year
round.

The best part of Christmas for me is knowing that it never has to end.

Which is why being part of a church family is perfect for me.
Christianity is based on giving and sharing. God gave his Son to make
us part of his family, and we share that good news with as many people
as we can. We think about Jesus all the time. We gather around a meal
every week, tell stories and celebrate together. We get to see new
members join our church family. We love being together.

I do have Christmas all year round. So can you. If you want to talk
more about this, write me at steve@hopeforlife.org or visit our blog at

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 7:14 and Job 1:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 25, 2008

MORNING:

"Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall
call his name Immanuel."
-- Isaiah 7:14

Let us to-day go down to Bethlehem, and in company with wondering
shepherds and adoring Magi, let us see him who was born King of the
Jews, for we by faith can claim an interest in him, and can sing, "Unto
us a child is born, unto us a son is given." Jesus is Jehovah
incarnate, our Lord and our God, and yet our brother and friend; let us
adore and admire. Let us notice at the very first glance his miraculous
conception. It was a thing unheard of before, and unparalleled since,
that a virgin should conceive and bear a Son. The first promise ran
thus, "The seed of the woman," not the offspring of the man. Since
venturous woman led the way in the sin which brought forth Paradise
lost, she, and she alone, ushers in the Regainer of Paradise. Our
Saviour, although truly man, was as to his human nature the Holy One of
God. Let us reverently bow before the holy Child whose innocence
restores to manhood its ancient glory; and let us pray that he may be
formed in us, the hope of glory. Fail not to note his humble parentage.
His mother has been described simply as "a virgin," not a princess, or
prophetess, nor a matron of large estate. True the blood of kings ran
in her veins; nor was her mind a weak and untaught one, for she could
sing most sweetly a song of praise; but yet how humble her position,
how poor the man to whom she stood affianced, and how miserable the
accommodation afforded to the new-born King!

Immanuel, God with us in our nature, in our sorrow, in our lifework, in
our punishment, in our grave, and now with us, or rather we with him,
in resurrection, ascension, triumph, and Second Advent splendour.

EVENING:

"And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone
about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in
the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the
number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have
sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job
continually."
-- Job 1:5

What the patriarch did early in the morning, after the family
festivities, it will be well for the believer to do for himself ere he
rests tonight. Amid the cheerfulness of household gatherings it is easy
to slide into sinful levities, and to forget our avowed character as
Christians. It ought not to be so, but so it is, that our days of
feasting are very seldom days of sanctified enjoyment, but too
frequently degenerate into unhallowed mirth. There is a way of joy as
pure and sanctifying as though one bathed in the rivers of Eden: holy
gratitude should be quite as purifying an element as grief. Alas! for
our poor hearts, that facts prove that the house of mourning is better
than the house of feasting. Come, believer, in what have you sinned
to-day? Have you been forgetful of your high calling? Have you been
even as others in idle words and loose speeches? Then confess the sin,
and fly to the sacrifice. The sacrifice sanctifies. The precious blood
of the Lamb slain removes the guilt, and purges away the defilement of
our sins of ignorance and carelessness. This is the best ending of a
Christmas-day-to wash anew in the cleansing fountain. Believer, come to
this sacrifice continually; if it be so good to-night, it is good every
night. To live at the altar is the privilege of the royal priesthood;
to them sin, great as it is, is nevertheless no cause for despair,
since they draw near yet again to the sin-atoning victim, and their
conscience is purged from dead works.

Gladly I close this festive day,
Grasping the altar's hallow'd horn;
My slips and faults are washed away,
The Lamb has all my trespass borne.

My Utmost For His Highest : "His Birth And Our New Birth"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 25, 2008

HIS BIRTH AND OUR NEW BIRTH

Behold, a virgin shall bring forth a son, and they shall
call His name Emanuel, which being interpreted is, God
with us.

Isaiah 7:14
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+7:14&sr=1

His Birth in History. "Therefore also that holy thing which shall be
born of thee shall be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:35.) Jesus
Christ was born into this world, not from it. He did not evolve out
of history; He came into history from the outside. Jesus Christ is
not the best human being, He is a Being Who cannot be accounted for
by the human race at all. He is not man becoming God, but God
Incarnate, God coming into human flesh, coming into it from outside.
His life is the Highest and the Holiest entering in at the Lowliest
door. Our Lord's birth was an advent.

His Birth in Me. "Of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be
formed in you." (Gal. 4:19.) Just as Our Lord came into human history
from outside, so He must come into me from outside. Have I allowed my
personal human life to become a "Bethlehem" for the Son of God? I
cannot enter into the realm of the Kingdom of God unless I am born
from above by a birth totally unlike natural birth. "Ye must be born
again." This is not a command, it is a foundation fact. The
characteristic of the new birth is that I yield myself so completely
to God that Christ is formed in me. Immediately Christ is formed in
me, His nature begins to work through me.

God manifest in the flesh - that is what is made profoundly possible
for you and me by the Redemption.

Dear Father,

May Christian wives and husbands relate to each other as is
fitting in the Lord, with subjection and kindness.

May children obey their parents and may parents not provoke the
children.

May we work at our jobs in ways which will put honoring you above
trying to please someone.

Whatever our tasks, help us to work heartily, serving you.

Help us all to treat each other fairly in all our relationships.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- Who Will Roll Away the Stone? -- Mark 16:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

Who Will Roll Away the Stone?

The women said to each other, "There is a large stone
covering the entrance of the tomb. Who will move the stone
for us?"

-- Mark 16:3 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"Who will move the stone for us?" This was the question of the women
who had followed Jesus. Who will balance the checkbook, service the
car, mow the lawn, take care of the house, do the laundry, bake the
Christmas cookies, ... and on and on we could go about the practical
questions that lie beneath the death of a loved one. In the face of
death, we often find ourselves with bewildering and overwhelming
questions. These are practical questions. These are hard questions.
These are confusing questions. Jesus' death was no different. Life goes
on for those left behind in grief. More than just offering quiet and
nice platitudes, let's get to work helping roll away the stone for each
person who needs grace -- let's do practical and helpful things that
need doing while they are overwhelmed with grief.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Dear God, grief comes back during the Christmas season and hits us
surprisingly hard. Please be with us and help us make it through this
year's Christmas with appreciation for those who have gone to be with
you before us. Give us the courage to walk faithfully in their
footsteps. Please provide us with the support of Christian community to
help us "roll away our stone" and do the things that most need doing.
And, dear Father, please use us -- use me -- to help those in grief in
very practical ways. In Jesus' name. Amen.
