What is it to serve God and to do His will? Nothing else than to
show mercy to our neighbor. For it is our neighbor who needs our
service; God in heaven needs it not.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Little Acts of Love, by Marsha Jordan

As I loaded dishes into the dishwasher, I sang along with the radio. My
grandson looked up from the picture he was coloring and said, "Grandma,
there's one thing about you that I don't like." Anticipating what he
was going to say, I asked, "What? That I sing all the time?" "No," he
answered, "It's not how much you sing, it's how BAD you sing."

Once again, I was reminded that God did not bless me with a good
singing voice.

I used to wish that I were a wonderful singer, so I could entertain
thousands of adoring fans packed into crowded stadiums. In reality, my
singing can't even please one six year old.

I also used to wish I were a great orator. I've always envied people
who could speak eloquently. I have trouble completing a sentence that
can be understood by a preschooler.

I may not possess the talents I would have preferred to be born with,
but I still have the ability to change the world ... and so do you!

Changing the world doesn't require wealth, talent, or a huge investment
of time. Right now, you (yes, you), with your current limitations and
abilities, have tremendous power to impact others.

Don't believe me? Have you ever had a day in which everything you
touched went wrong? When you were at the end of your rope, did someone
speak a kind word or help you out? Do you remember how it warmed your
heart and perked up your spirit? Small, loving acts make a profound
difference. Everyone longs to feel noticed and appreciated. That's why
it means so much when someone surprises us with a simple act of caring.
It assures us that we matter.

"I'm just one person. I can't make a difference."

Discouraged people are everywhere. They need you. Don't overlook
opportunities to make a difference in someone's life. A smile, a note,
or a phone call won't take much effort, but they can make someone's
day. Not only will your kindness be appreciated by the recipient and
rewarded by God, but it will enrich your own life, too.

Many folks say, "I'm just one person. I can't make a difference." If
you've ever been on the receiving end of a hug just when it's needed,
you know one person's concern is powerful. Do you compare your
contribution to a tiny drop of water in the huge ocean? Mother
Theresa's view was that the ocean would be less without that one drop.

There could be no mountains, if not for the tiny grains of sand from
which the mountains are made. Little things pack a big punch.
Encouragement takes only a moment to give but it delivers an important
message of love and concern to the recipient, and it could last a
lifetime. Your empathy and time can lessen someone's load and make
their life journey easier.

We may not speak like Billy Graham or sing like Frank Sinatra, but we
each have our own unique talents that God wants us to use. Have you
considered that you may be exactly what someone is praying for?

Open your heart. Show you care. Share a little love.

This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these
things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to
devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent
and profitable for everyone (Titus 3:8 TNIV).

Morning & Evening -- John 14:21 and Genesis 46:3,4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

MORNING:

"And will manifest myself to him."
-- John 14:21

The Lord Jesus gives special revelations of himself to his people. Even
if Scripture did not declare this, there are many of the children of
God who could testify the truth of it from their own experience. They
have had manifestations of their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in a
peculiar manner, such as no mere reading or hearing could afford. In
the biographies of eminent saints, you will find many instances
recorded in which Jesus has been pleased, in a very special manner to
speak to their souls, and to unfold the wonders of his person; yea, so
have their souls been steeped in happiness that they have thought
themselves to be in heaven, whereas they were not there, though they
were well nigh on the threshold of it-for when Jesus manifests himself
to his people, it is heaven on earth; it is paradise in embryo; it is
bliss begun. Especial manifestations of Christ exercise a holy
influence on the believer's heart. One effect will be humility. If a
man says, "I have had such-and-such spiritual communications, I am a
great man," he has never had any communion with Jesus at all; for "God
hath respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off." He
does not need to come near them to know them, and will never give them
any visits of love. Another effect will be happiness; for in God's
presence there are pleasures for evermore. Holiness will be sure to
follow. A man who has no holiness has never had this manifestation.
Some men profess a great deal; but we must not believe any one unless
we see that his deeds answer to what he says. "Be not deceived; God is
not mocked." He will not bestow his favours upon the wicked: for while
he will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he respect an evil
doer. Thus there will be three effects of nearness to Jesus-humility,
happiness, and holiness. May God give them to thee, Christian!

EVENING:

"Fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee
a great nation: I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I
will also surely bring thee up again."
-- Genesis 46:3,4

Jacob must have shuddered at the thought of leaving the land of his
father's sojourning, and dwelling among heathen strangers. It was a new
scene, and likely to be a trying one: who shall venture among couriers
of a foreign monarch without anxiety? Yet the way was evidently
appointed for him, and therefore he resolved to go. This is frequently
the position of believers now-they are called to perils and temptations
altogether untried: at such seasons let them imitate Jacob's example by
offering sacrifices of prayer unto God, and seeking his direction; let
them not take a step until they have waited upon the Lord for his
blessing: then they will have Jacob's companion to be their friend and
helper. How blessed to feel assured that the Lord is with us in all our
ways, and condescends to go down into our humiliations and banishments
with us! Even beyond the ocean our Father's love beams like the sun in
its strength. We cannot hesitate to go where Jehovah promises his
presence; even the valley of deathshade grows bright with the radiance
of this assurance. Marching onwards with faith in their God, believers
shall have Jacob's promise. They shall be brought up again, whether it
be from the troubles of life or the chambers of death. Jacob's seed
came out of Egypt in due time, and so shall all the faithful pass
unscathed through the tribulation of life, and the terror of death. Let
us exercise Jacob's confidence. "Fear not," is the Lord's command and
his divine encouragement to those who at his bidding are launching upon
new seas; the divine presence and preservation forbid so much as one
unbelieving fear. Without our God we should fear to move; but when he
bids us to, it would be dangerous to tarry. Reader, go forward, and
fear not.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Make A Habit Of Having No Habits"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 12, 2009

MAKE A HABIT OF HAVING NO HABITS

For if these things are yours and abound, they make you
to be not idle nor unfruitful.

2 Peter 1:8
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2pe+1:8&sr=1

When we begin to form a habit we are conscious of it. There are times
when we are conscious of becoming virtuous and patient and godly, but
it is only a stage; if we stop there we shall get the strut of the
spiritual prig. The right thing to do with habits is to lose them in
the life of the Lord, until every habit is so practised that there is
no conscious habit at all. Our spiritual life continually resolves
into introspection because there are some qualities we have not added
as yet. Ultimately the relationship is to be a completely simple one.

Your god may be your little Christian habit, the habit of prayer at
stated times, or the habit of Bible reading. Watch how your Father
will upset those times if you begin to worship your habit instead of
what the habit symbolizes - I can't do that just now, I am praying;
it is my hour with God. No, it is your hour with your habit. There is
a quality that is lacking in you. Recognize the defect and then look
for the opportunity of exercising yourself along the line of the
quality to be added.

Love means that there is no habit visible, you have come to the place
where the habit is lost, and by practice you do the thing
unconsciously. If you are consciously holy, there are certain things
you imagine you cannot do, certain relationships in which you are far
from simple; that means there is something to be added. The only
supernatural life is the life the Lord Jesus lived, and He was at
home with God anywhere. Is there anywhere where you are not at home
with God? Let God press through in that particular circumstance until
you gain Him, and life becomes the simple life of a child.

Praying with Paul : "The Mystery Disclosed"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE MYSTERY DISCLOSED

1 Corinthians 15:51-57
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:51-57

Dear Father, keeper of every promise,

Thank you for disclosing to us the mystery of what is to come!
Keep us looking forward to that moment when we shall all be
changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet.

Thank you that some of us will not even have to die but will rise
to meet the Savior in the air.

Praise be to you, Almighty Father. By your will the last trumpet
will sound. The dead will be raised imperishable. We shall all be
changed. You will make our perishable nature imperishable, our
mortal nature immortal.

Then you will bring to pass what is written, "Death is swallowed
up in victory." "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is
your sting?"

Thanks be to you, gracious Father, for making us more than
conquerors now and for guaranteeing us final victory through our
Lord Jesus Christ!

In the name of Jesus I lift my voice to you on high. Amen.

WJD! -- Accepting Jesus -- Matthew 10:40-41

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

Accepting Jesus

"The person that accepts you also accepts me. And the person
that accepts me also accepts the One (God) that sent me. Any
person that meets a prophet and accepts him will get the same
reward a prophet gets. And any person that accepts a good man
because that man is good will get the same reward a good man
gets."

-- Matthew 10:40-41 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
While the previous verses have been about the disciples' willingness to
stand with Jesus for Jesus and to proclaim Jesus no matter the hostile
odds, these next few verses reassure us of Jesus' presence and concern
about what happens to us. For people to reject us, with our message of
salvation, we must realize they are not rejecting us, but Jesus.
Through his people and through the Word of the Bible, Jesus reveals
himself. But Jesus goes a step further; he promises that those who
welcome Gospel messengers will receive rich rewards.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Loving God, please help me realize and remember that when I share
Christ with others, I bring them your blessing and your salvation
through Jesus. Increase my boldness to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus in
a way that is both truthful and challenging. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

VERSE:
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its
saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for
anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men."
-- Matthew 5:13
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+5:13

THOUGHT:
Jesus wanted us to never give up our moral distinctiveness, our
redemptive influence, or our loving impact on those around us. The
purpose of our presence in the world is to be an influence in our
culture against further decay and to season the bitter, dog-eat-dog
world with grace and mercy.

PRAYER:
Dear holy and majestic LORD, please help me resist being
conformed to my culture. Instead, dear Father, please use my
distinctiveness as a Christian to bless others and to expand the
influence and impact of your Kingdom. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for
nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Amen.
