Quotemeal: "I may no longer depend on ..."

I may no longer depend on pleasant impulses to bring me before
the Lord. I must rather respond to principles I know to be
right, whether I feel them to be enjoyable or not.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 38:21 and Luke 24:33,35

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 25, 2009

MORNING:

"Forsake me not, O Lord."
-- Psalms 38:21

Frequently we pray that God would not forsake us in the hour of trial
and temptation, but we too much forget that we have need to use this
prayer at all times. There is no moment of our life, however holy, in
which we can do without his constant upholding. Whether in light or in
darkness, in communion or in temptation, we alike need the prayer,
"Forsake me not, O Lord." "Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe." A
little child, while learning to walk, always needs the nurse's aid. The
ship left by the pilot drifts at once from her course. We cannot do
without continued aid from above; let it then be your prayer to-day,
"Forsake me not. Father, forsake not thy child, lest he fall by the
hand of the enemy. Shepherd, forsake not thy lamb, lest he wander from
the safety of the fold. Great Husbandman, forsake not thy plant, lest
it wither and die. 'Forsake me not, O Lord,' now; and forsake me not at
any moment of my life. Forsake me not in my joys, lest they absorb my
heart. Forsake me not in my sorrows, lest I murmur against thee.
Forsake me not in the day of my repentance, lest I lose the hope of
pardon, and fall into despair; and forsake me not in the day of my
strongest faith, lest faith degenerate into presumption. Forsake me
not, for without thee I am weak, but with thee I am strong. Forsake me
not, for my path is dangerous, and full of snares, and I cannot do
without thy guidance. The hen forsakes not her brood, do thou then
evermore cover me with thy feathers, and permit me under thy wings to
find my refuge. 'Be not far from me, O Lord, for trouble is near, for
there is none to help.' 'Leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my
salvation!'"

"O ever in our cleansed breast,
Bid thine Eternal Spirit rest;
And make our secret soul to be
A temple pure and worthy thee."

EVENING:

"And they rose up the same hour, and returned Jerusalem ...
and they told what things were done in the way, and how he was
known of them."
-- Luke 24:33,35

When the two disciples had reached Emmaus, and were refreshing
themselves at the evening meal, the mysterious stranger who had so
enchanted them upon the road, took bread and brake it, made himself
known to them, and then vanished out of their sight. They had
constrained him to abide with them, because the day was far spent; but
now, although it was much later, their love was a lamp to their feet,
yea, wings also; they forgot the darkness, their weariness was all
gone, and forthwith they journeyed back the threescore furlongs to tell
the gladsome news of a risen Lord, who had appeared to them by the way.
They reached the Christians in Jerusalem, and were received by a burst
of joyful news before they could tell their own tale. These early
Christians were all on fire to speak of Christ's resurrection, and to
proclaim what they knew of the Lord; they made common property of their
experiences. This evening let their example impress us deeply. We too
must bear our witness concerning Jesus. John's account of the sepulchre
needed to be supplemented by Peter; and Mary could speak of something
further still; combined, we have a full testimony from which nothing
can be spared. We have each of us peculiar gifts and special
manifestations; but the one object God has in view is the perfecting of
the whole body of Christ. We must, therefore, bring our spiritual
possessions and lay them at the apostle's feet, and make distribution
unto all of what God has given to us. Keep back no part of the precious
truth, but speak what you know, and testify what you have seen. Let not
the toil or darkness, or possible unbelief of your friends, weigh one
moment in the scale. Up, and be marching to the place of duty, and
there tell what great things God has shown to your soul.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Test Of Self-Interest"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 25, 2009

THE TEST OF SELF-INTEREST

If thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the
right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will
go to the left.

Genesis 13:9
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ge+13:9&sr=1

As soon as you begin to live the life of faith in God, fascinating
and luxurious prospects will open up before you, and these things are
yours by right; but if you are living the life of faith you will
exercise your right to waive your rights, and let God choose for you.
God sometimes allows you to get into a place of testing where your
own welfare would be the right and proper thing to consider if you
were not living a life of faith; but if you are, you will joyfully
waive your right and leave God to choose for you. This is the
discipline by means of which the natural is transformed into the
spiritual by obedience to the voice of God.

Whenever right is made the guidance in the life, it will blunt the
spiritual insight. The great enemy of the life of faith in God is not
sin, but the good which is not good enough. The good is always the
enemy of the best. It would seem the wisest thing in the world for
Abraham to choose, it was his right, and the people around would
consider him a fool for not choosing. Many of us do not go on
spiritually because we prefer to choose what is right instead of
relying on God to choose for us. We have to learn to walk according
to the standard which has its eye on God. "Walk before Me."

Praying with Paul : "A Dispensation of Glory"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

A DISPENSATION OF GLORY

2 Corinthians 3:7-16
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+3:7-16

Dear Father,

What a glorious splendor Christ's gospel has! It is a dispensation
of glory! And why shouldn't the dispensation of the Spirit be
attended with greater splendor than that of the letter! How much
more splendid than the temporary glory of Moses is the permanent,
new covenant, the dispensation of righteousness through faith by
your grace!

I am so full of hope because of what you have done! I have such
boldness!

For in Christ the veil of secrecy and misunderstanding is taken
away. What you were intending in the Old Covenant becomes clear,
for your Holy Spirit reveals the Lord Jesus Christ as the hidden
meaning in it all. Christ the Lord is the Spirit, and where the
Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

In the name of Jesus and because it is his will, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Better Off? -- Matthew 11:22-24

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Better Off?

"But I tell you, on the day of judgment it will be worse for
you than for Tyre and Sidon. And you, Capernaum, will you be
lifted up to heaven? No! You will be thrown down to the place
of death. I did many miracles in you. If those same miracles
had happened in Sodom, {the people of} Sodom {would have
stopped sinning and it} would still be a city today. But I
tell you it will be worse for you in the day of judgment than
for Sodom."

-- Matthew 11:22-24 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
In today's society, we don't like to talk about judgment, especially
religious judgment. Most churches tone it down. Many who profess faith
in Christ are ashamed about those passages. Most people today are not
even aware that the Gospel that talks about not being judgmental of
others also is the Gospel that most strongly emphasizes that Jesus will
judge based upon our response and obedience to him. Matthew's Gospel
clearly demonstrates again and again that our decisions about Jesus,
his identity and his lordship, and our obedience to his word all have
eternal consequences. To reject Immanuel, God with us, brings judgment.
To reject God's clearest example of his grace is to bring judgment.
Jesus leaves us no neutral ground. We either decide for him or face
judgment without him.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, please help me to be firm in my commitments to you and
faithful in my service to your children so that I will not fall under
your judgment. Give me a greater sense of urgency and a greater
effectiveness in communicating your love, grace and salvation in Jesus.
Be with me and speak through me as I try to share the story of Jesus
with my friends and family. In Jesus' saving and precious name I pray.
Amen.

VERSE:
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your
heart.
-- Jeremiah 29:13
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Jeremiah+29:13

THOUGHT:
God wants us to seek him. In fact, he made us to seek him!
Unfortunately, however, we often seek God along with the other
things that draw our eyes for a moment or two. We must never let
anything distract us from God having first command of our hearts.
Only God is worthy of our full devotion.

PRAYER:
Righteous God and Holy Father, please bless me with an undivided
heart, one that seeks you as the first and ordering priority of my
life. Forgive me, dear Lord, for letting other things distract my
focus from you and interfere with my service to your Kingdom. Fill
me with a holy passion for Kingdom matters above all other concerns
