2 Corinthians 9:1-8

Dear Father, righteous and gracious God,

Create in me a holy readiness to give of that which you have given
me, never as an exaction but as a willing gift.

Help me to sow bountifully so that I shall reap bountifully. Let
me make up my mind about what to give.

Then let my giving be cheerful, not with reluctance or under
compulsion.

And why shouldn't I give, since you give to me without
reservation. You are able to provide me with every blessing in
abundance, and you will provide so that I will always have enough
for myself and some to give away.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the truly generous Savior of mankind,
I raise these petitions to you. Amen.

Binding the Strong Man

"You say that I use the power of Beelzebul to force out
demons. If that is true, then what power do your people use
when they force out demons? So your own people will prove
that you are wrong. But I use the power of God's Spirit to
force out demons. This shows that the kingdom of God has come
to you. If a person wants to enter a strong man's house and
steal his things, first the person must tie the strong man.
Then the person can steal the things from the strong man's
house."

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' power over demons, disease, and death are reminders that he
comes in the power of the Kingdom. His ministry is the power of the
Kingdom dawning in people's lives and a foretaste of Jesus' eternal
rule as Lord and Savior. He has entered the strong man's house and tied
up the strong man. He has plundered the strong man and liberated those
the strong man had bound and headed for Hell. His power is real and
righteous. His power is unleashed to liberate us. It is now time for us
to proclaim him Lord, not just Lord of our lives, but Lord of all! To
him goes all majesty, glory, honor, and power. To him belongs the
victory forever. To him we bow our knees and surrender our hearts.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, you alone are God. Through your Son you have liberated me
from law, sin, death, and Satan. I place my life and my future in your
hands. I praise you for your grace and power. I praise you for your
love and mercy. I praise you for your sacrifice and strength. I praise
you for Jesus Christ, my Lord and Lord of all. In his name, the Lord
Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future."

THOUGHT:
Jeremiah was telling God's people that 70 years after the
devastation, God would deliver and restore them. Despite the fact
that they had repeatedly abandoned God, he would not abandon them
or his promises to them. He would be faithful. In fact, God was
planning and preparing a bright future for them. This promise also
reminds us that no matter how deep our own personal gloom may seem,
God does have plans for us. He will keep his promises to us. He
will deliver and bless us. We can have a vibrant hope and a bright
future because of his faithfulness and our trust in his Son, Jesus,
who delivers us from every foe.

PRAYER:
Give me faith, O Lord, during the times I'm weary, discouraged,
and beaten down. Inspire me to trust in your great promises. Please
give me courage, O Lord, when my faith wavers. Help me obey your
word no matter how challenging it may seem or how discouraged I
feel. Thank you for giving me a bright future in Jesus. Please help
me live more consciously aware of this great gift. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Manifesting His Deity in Humanity

Phil 2:6 Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider
being equal with God a treasure to be grasped, 7 But
emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming in the
likeness of men;
Mark 2:10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has
authority to forgive sins on Earth--he said to the paralytic,
11 To you I say, Rise, take up your mat and go to your
house.

The Slave-Savior was the very God incarnated, not regarding
equality with God a thing to be grasped. He was outwardly in
the likeness and fashion of man, even in the form of a slave,
but inwardly, He was God (Phil. 2:6-7). He was the Slave-
Savior and the God-Savior as well. Hence, He had not only the
ability to save the sinners, but also the authority to
forgive their sins. In this incident He forgave people's sins
as God, but asserted that He was the Son of Man. This
indicates that He was the true God and a real Man, possessing
deity and humanity. In Him men could see both His divine
attribute and human virtue.

When the Lord referred to the paralytic as a child [Mark
2:5], the Lord conducted Himself in a very human manner. The
Lord addressed him in an intimate way, in a way full of human
kindness. But when the Lord told the paralytic to rise, take
up his bed, and go home, He manifested His deity. Therefore,
the Lord's deity was manifested in His humanity. His humanity
was full of virtue, and His deity was full of authority. The
Lord's glory seen here was the expression of His authority.
The Lord's word to the sick man to rise, pick up his bed, and
go home was not a word of teaching; it was a word of
authority. This word was confirmed by the fact that the
paralytic then received the ability, the energy to rise, pick
up his bed, and walk. All those gathered there saw the Lord's
authority, glory, and honor. Therefore, in this case we see
the Lord's humanity displayed in its virtue and perfection
and His deity manifested in its glory and honor.
