Strength
O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for You. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. Isaiah 33:2 NIV
Tough day ahead? How are you going to get through it? Why not let God be your strength today?
Sometimes my days overwhelm me. When I was younger, no one could have expressed to me the pressure that comes from life. In my little world I am expected to be a good husband, a good father, a good son, a good employer, a good community leader, a good pastor, a good radio co-host, a good writer, and a good friend. In the middle of all of that activity, I am required to be a good child of God; consistently seeking Him and daily growing to be more like Christ. Whew! I'm tired just typing the list and I left some of it out!
You're no different than me. You may have different responsibilities, but you have something that you need to do and someone you are accountable to everyday. All these demands can take a lot out of a person.
I don't know how to handle the demands of life apart from God's strength! I just don't! If I fail to give Him the burdens and opportunities of life, I will be a failure! It is just that simple! I know that intellectually, even spiritually, but carrying it out on a daily basis is sometimes a different story. There is always a tendency in my heart to want to fix things! To set back and let God work through me often conflicts with my "A type" personality.
Paul, the great Epistle writer of the New Testament, said it best when he reminded us that he "dies daily". Every morning, before we even get out of bed, we must pause for a minute, confess our insufficiency before the Lord, and ask Him to be our Source and Strength for the day. Then we start over the next day!
The Christian life is not to be lived alone. Praise God we have His presence in our life through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our obligation is to let His will be done in our lives, as He provides the strength for everyday living. May we do so today!
