Don't Sit Around Waiting, by Ron Rose

Preparation

How are you with riddles?

Try this one:

All the electricity was out in Aberdeen. None of the streetlights
or traffic signals had power. A dark limousine was cruising down
the newly paved blacktop, with its headlights off. A young boy
dressed totally in black (with no reflectors) stepped out to cross
the street. The moon wasn't out and the boy had no flashlight, yet
the driver stopped to let the boy cross the street. How did the
driver see the boy?

Ben Gates, in "National Treasure", found destiny in the riddle. "The
legend writ, the stain affected, the key in Silence undetected. Fifty
five in iron pen, Mr. Matlack can't offend." His life was driven by a
riddle.

Does your life find destiny in a riddle? Are you looking for maps,
clues, or answers? In the movies, Ben Gates, Harry Potter, Frodo, and
Indiana Jones found their destinies, their "reason for living," in a
driving quest.

What are you driven by? Too many of us have trouble here. Are you still
searching to find your driving force? ... your destiny? Have you read
the book, "Purpose Driven life," and still find yourself in search of
purpose? Or, have you grown comfortable waiting around?

Waiting, or wasting time?

Not sure what you want to do?

Then, go make something up.

You have permission to take your abilities and dreams and make life
happen.

Brandon asked:

I'm not sure what God wants me to do with my life, I haven't
figured out the answers yet; in fact, I haven't found the clues
yet. What if I decide to do something with my life that's not God's
will for me ... not what I'm destined to do?

My response:

Then, He'll let you know; but just waiting around or wishing
something would happen, is a waste. God opens doors all around us,
most of them we never see, because we're waiting for something to
happen, somewhere else.

Inspiration

It was the 1940's in America and Branch Rickey was about to do the
impossible. It wouldn't be easy, but he was going to integrate
professional baseball. Branch was the general manager of the Brooklyn
Dodgers; but for this task he would need a partner, an extraordinary
one.

To begin with, Branch realized that introducing a black player into the
Dodger organization would put him at odds with generations of inbred
racial attitudes; and it would for a while meet with intense
opposition.

What are you waiting for, really?

More than being a great player, this first black man in Baseball, would
have to have strength of character, intestinal fortitude and personal
tenacity. He would have to be a man willing to make history, not sit
around waiting for it to happen. Branch picked Jackie Robinson.

In 1945, Branch made the offer to Jackie. "We can't fight our way
through this, Robinson. We've got no army. There's virtually nobody on
our side. No owners, no umpires, very few newspapermen. And I'm afraid
that many fans will be hostile. We'll be in a tough position. We can
win only if we can convince the world that I'm doing this because
you're a great ballplayer and a fine gentleman."

In spite of what was thrown against them, they would both have to
endure without reprisal.

Jackie looked at the general manager and asked, "Mr. Rickey, are you
looking for a Negro who is afraid to fight back?" "No, I'm looking for
a ballplayer with guts enough not to fight back," Branch replied.

Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier during the 1947 season with
restraint and resolve. Early on players yelled at him to go back to the
jungle, hurled racial epithets, and slung hate. And it got worse.

Jackie played with great skill and astonishing restraint. Everyday he
had to fight the war inside, while playing the game he loved. Jackie
Robinson didn't just wait around for clues.

He didn't waste his days dreaming of destiny, a future that might come
his way; he took action, tough action and created his own destiny.

Motivation

Are you in-play? Or are you waiting on the bench, hoping something
happens this week that changes everything.

What are you waiting for, really? Confidence? Company? Confirmation?

What about faith?

Faith forces us into action, sometimes impossible, dangerous, and
unexpected action, but always action.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 29:2 and Romans 8:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, August 16, 2008

MORNING:

"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name."
-- Psalms 29:2

God's glory is the result of his nature and acts. He is glorious in his
character, for there is such a store of everything that is holy, and
good, and lovely in God, that he must be glorious. The actions which
flow from his character are also glorious; but while he intends that
they should manifest to his creatures his goodness, and mercy, and
justice, he is equally concerned that the glory associated with them
should be given only to himself. Nor is there aught in ourselves in
which we may glory; for who maketh us to differ from another? And what
have we that we did not receive from the God of all grace? Then how
careful ought we to be to walk humbly before the Lord! The moment we
glorify ourselves, since there is room for one glory only in the
universe, we set ourselves up as rivals to the Most High. Shall the
insect of an hour glorify itself against the sun which warmed it into
life? Shall the potsherd exalt itself above the man who fashioned it
upon the wheel? Shall the dust of the desert strive with the whirlwind?
Or the drops of the ocean struggle with the tempest? Give unto the
Lord, all ye righteous, give unto the Lord glory and strength; give
unto him the honour that is due unto his name. Yet it is, perhaps, one
of the hardest struggles of the Christian life to learn this
sentence-"Not unto us, not unto us, but unto thy name be glory." It is
a lesson which God is ever teaching us, and teaching us sometimes by
most painful discipline. Let a Christian begin to boast, "I can do all
things," without adding "through Christ which strengtheneth me," and
before long he will have to groan, "I can do nothing," and bemoan
himself in the dust. When we do anything for the Lord, and he is
pleased to accept of our doings, let us lay our crown at his feet, and
exclaim, "Not I, but the grace of God which was with me!"

EVENING:

"Ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit."
-- Romans 8:23

Present possession is declared. At this present moment we have the
first fruits of the Spirit. We have repentance, that gem of the first
water; faith, that priceless pearl; hope, the heavenly emerald; and
love, the glorious ruby. We are already made "new creatures in Christ
Jesus," by the effectual working of God the Holy Ghost. This is called
the firstfruit because it comes first. As the wave-sheaf was the first
of the harvest, so the spiritual life, and all the graces which adorn
that life, are the first operations of the Spirit of God in our souls.
The firstfruits were the pledge of the harvest. As soon as the
Israelite had plucked the first handful of ripe ears, he looked forward
with glad anticipation to the time when the wain should creak beneath
the sheaves. So, brethren, when God gives us things which are pure,
lovely, and of good report, as the work of the Holy Spirit, these are
to us the prognostics of the coming glory. The firstfruits were always
holy to the Lord, and our new nature, with all its powers, is a
consecrated thing. The new life is not ours that we should ascribe its
excellence to our own merit; it is Christ's image and creation, and is
ordained for his glory. But the firstfruits were not the harvest, and
the works of the Spirit in us at this moment are not the
consummation-the perfection is yet to come. We must not boast that we
have attained, and so reckon the wave-sheaf to be all the produce of
the year: we must hunger and thirst after righteousness, and pant for
the day of full redemption. Dear reader, this evening open your mouth
wide, and God will fill it. Let the boon in present possession excite
in you a sacred avarice for more grace. Groan within yourself for
higher degrees of consecration, and your Lord will grant them to you,
for he is able to do exceeding abundantly above what we ask or even
think.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Does He Know Me -"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 16, 2008

DOES HE KNOW ME -

He calleth ... by name.

John 10:3
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+10:3&sr=1

When I have sadly misunderstood Him? (John 10:17.) It is possible to
know all about doctrine and yet not know Jesus. The soul is in danger
when knowledge of doctrine outsteps intimate touch with Jesus. Why
was Mary weeping? Doctrine was no more to Mary than the grass under
her feet. Any Pharisee could have made a fool of Mary doctrinally,
but one thing they could not ridicule out of her was the fact that
Jesus had cast seven demons out of her; yet His blessings were
nothing in comparison to Himself. Mary "saw Jesus standing and knew
not that it was Jesus . . ;" immediately she heard the voice, she
knew she had a past history with the One who spoke. "Master!"

When I have stubbornly doubted? (John 10:27.) Have I been doubting
something about Jesus - an experience to which others testify but
which I have not had? The other disciples told Thomas that they had
seen Jesus, but Thomas doubted - "Except I shall see . . , I will not
believe." Thomas needed the personal touch of Jesus. When His touches
come, or how they come, we do not know; but when they do come they
are in describably precious. "My Lord and my God!"

When I have selfishly denied Him? (John 21:15-17.) Peter had denied
Jesus Christ with oaths and curses, and yet after the Resurrection
Jesus appeared to Peter alone. He restored him in private, then He
restored him before the others. "Lord, Thou knowest that I love
Thee."

Have I a personal history with Jesus Christ? The one sign of
discipleship is intimate connection with Him, a knowledge of Jesus
Christ which nothing can shake.

TAKING HOLD OF ETERNAL LIFE

1 Timothy 6:12-15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Timothy+6:12-15

Dear Father, Lord of all lords,

Enable me to take hold of the eternal life to which I was called
when I made the good confession before many witnesses. Help me keep
your commands until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which
you will bring about in your own time.

O God, the blessed and only ruler, the King of kings and Lord of
lords, who alone is immortal and lives in unapproachable light,
whom no one has seen or can see - to you be honor and might forever
and ever. Amen.

In the name of Jesus and to your glory I lift up this prayer.
Amen.

WJD! -- Believe It! -- Mark 11:22-23

Believe It!

Jesus answered, "Have faith in God. I tell you the truth. You
can say to this mountain, 'Go, mountain, fall into the sea.'
And if you have no doubts in your mind and believe that the
thing you say will happen, then God will do it for you."

-- Mark 11:22-23 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus had done a spectacular nature miracle in withering the fig tree
with his command (Mark 11:12-21). Jesus wants his closest followers to
understand that they can do amazing things too, if they will truly
believe. Bottom line: Jesus wants us to pursue his will without thought
of limitations and without fear of asking too much. "Have faith!" our
Lord tells us, "and ask without doubt." Let's do these things!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, today I want to ask you for something that does not seem
possible. I know this cannot be accomplished without your power and
blessing. So I ask this of you in the name of Jesus my Lord ... (Please
share with the Father your personal faith request.) Amen.

Today's Verse : Matthew 8:16-17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 16, 2008

VERSE:
When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to
him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the
sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet
Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."
-- Matthew 8:16-17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+8:16-17

THOUGHT:
How does Jesus feel about us when we feel tormented by evil and
unfairness? Does he really long to touch our broken bodies when we
are sick? Look two places and you will know the answer. First, look
at him in the dusk of early evening touching the untouchable and
you'll know. Second, look to the cross and see him in anguish so we
can be confident that he knows and cares. But, there is a third
place to look. Look to the future when we will see him, and every
tear will be dried from our eyes and we will share in his glory.
Here we trust in his grace and know it only in parts and pieces,
but The Day will come when we will know fully the words of Matthew
8:16-17 in our own immortal bodies (1 Cor. 13:9-12; 1 Cor.
15:35-58).

PRAYER:
Holy and Righteous Father, until The Day of ultimate grace is
fully realized, I trust your love and mercy will sustain me through
the servant grace of my Savior and your Son. In his name, Jesus of
Nazareth and of heaven, I pray. Amen.

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 16, 2008

VERSE:
When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were
possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word,
and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities,
and bare our sicknesses.
-- Matthew 8:16-17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+8:16-17&translation=kjv

Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Desires & Imagination, by Russ Lawson

What do you dream about? Now, I don't mean the dreams you have while
you are asleep necessarily, but what is it you "day dream" about? What
occupies your thoughts, what is the center of your focus or your
attention?

It's amazing where we can find words of wisdom, if we would only
listen. My wonderful wife Melody shared a quote with me this weekend.
She is a big fan of the old black and white movies, which is where she
heard this gem. The quote is this: "Man's desires are his prayers;
everything in the realm of imagination is also in the realm of
possibility" (From 1954 Movie "Riders to the Stars").

That phrase, "Man's desires are his prayers" really struck a cord with
me. It proclaims a great truth about who we are and about what is
really important to us if we will but think about it. I have known
people throughout the years for whom it was quite easy to understand
just what their dreams were. You didn't have to be around them very
long, before you knew what was really important to them.

As I think back on my own life I can see a progression and hopefully a
growth in my life. When I was a preteen I read every adventure book I
could find. I really thought I might like to be a forest ranger. Then I
discovered a larger world and became very interested in flight and
outer space. Then, as is typical in teen years, I first focused on cars
and then came to notice girls. Then of course I focused upon one girl,
who's been my girl for the past 41 years.

"Man's desires are his prayers ..."

In my early 20's all of the teaching my parents had been doing kicked
in and Melody and I began to focus more on God and serving him. I quit
my job and we traveled a thousand miles to go to school and learn
better how to serve God and his people. That's been my focus now for
close to 40 years. I may have some side interests, but my focus is
serving God and his people. Someone once commented, "All you guys talk
about is church and church stuff." We took it as a great complement,
though that was not the way they meant it.

Our focus and our dream has taken us on many great adventures! We have
lived in and visited places in our world which many people only see in
the movies, all the time following the dream. Our dream which became
our focus and the center of our prayers changed our lives, "Man's
desires are his prayers; everything in the realm of imagination is also
in the realm of possibility."

Notice what Jesus tells us about reaching for our dreams and prayers:

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is
impossible, but with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26
NKJV).

Maybe it's time for you to think about what is really important in your
life. It is (or should be) your focus and your prayer and it is in the
realm of possibility; Jesus said so!

Morning & Evening -- Genesis 24:63 and Ezekiel 36:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 15, 2008

MORNING:

"Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide."
-- Genesis 24:63

Very admirable was his occupation. If those who spend so many hours in
idle company, light reading, and useless pastimes, could learn wisdom,
they would find more profitable society and more interesting
engagements in meditation than in the vanities which now have such
charms for them. We should all know more, live nearer to God, and grow
in grace, if we were more alone. Meditation chews the cud and extracts
the real nutriment from the mental food gathered elsewhere. When Jesus
is the theme, meditation is sweet indeed. Isaac found Rebecca while
engaged in private musings; many others have found their best beloved
there.

Very admirable was the choice of place. In the field we have a study
hung round with texts for thought. From the cedar to the hyssop, from
the soaring eagle down to the chirping grasshopper, from the blue
expanse of heaven to a drop of dew, all things are full of teaching,
and when the eye is divinely opened, that teaching flashes upon the
mind far more vividly than from written books. Our little rooms are
neither so healthy, so suggestive, so agreeable, or so inspiring as the
fields. Let us count nothing common or unclean, but feel that all
created things point to their Maker, and the field will at once be
hallowed.

Very admirable was the season. The season of sunset as it draws a veil
over the day, befits that repose of the soul when earthborn cares yield
to the joys of heavenly communion. The glory of the setting sun excites
our wonder, and the solemnity of approaching night awakens our awe. If
the business of this day will permit it, it will be well, dear reader,
if you can spare an hour to walk in the field at eventide, but if not,
the Lord is in the town too, and will meet with thee in thy chamber or
in the crowded street. Let thy heart go forth to meet him.

EVENING:

"And I will give you an heart of flesh."
-- Ezekiel 36:26

A heart of flesh is known by its tenderness concerning sin. To have
indulged a foul imagination, or to have allowed a wild desire to tarry
even for a moment, is quite enough to make a heart of flesh grieve
before the Lord. The heart of stone calls a great iniquity nothing, but
not so the heart of flesh.

"If to the right or left I stray,
That moment, Lord, reprove;
And let me weep my life away,
For having grieved thy love"

The heart of flesh is tender of God's will. My Lord Will-be-will is a
great blusterer, and it is hard to subject him to God's will; but when
the heart of flesh is given, the will quivers like an aspen leaf in
every breath of heaven, and bows like an osier in every breeze of God's
Spirit. The natural will is cold, hard iron, which is not to be
hammered into form, but the renewed will, like molten metal, is soon
moulded by the hand of grace. In the fleshy heart there is a tenderness
of the affections. The hard heart does not love the Redeemer, but the
renewed heart burns with affection towards him. The hard heart is
selfish and coldly demands, "Why should I weep for sin? Why should I
love the Lord?" But the heart of flesh says; "Lord, thou knowest that I
love thee; help me to love thee more!" Many are the privileges of this
renewed heart; "'Tis here the Spirit dwells, 'tis here that Jesus
rests." It is fitted to receive every spiritual blessing, and every
blessing comes to it. It is prepared to yield every heavenly fruit to
the honour and praise of God, and therefore the Lord delights in it. A
tender heart is the best defence against sin, and the best preparation
for heaven. A renewed heart stands on its watchtower looking for the
coming of the Lord Jesus. Have you this heart of flesh?

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Those Tears 5

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Those Tears 5
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4

God has been catching your tears, storing them up all your life, so that one day He can wipe your eyes dry of them forever! God cares that much!

I hope this week you have reflected on the love your Heavenly Father has for you. I cant help but wonder if everyone who reads this has that kind of relationship with Him. You know that the Bible says the only way to get to the Father is through His Son Jesus. Have you called upon the name of Jesus to save you? Please do so today.

If you have, God is catching your tears and storing them in your bottle so that He can personally, (He wont let anyone else do this) restore to you the joy lost through those tears. He wants to change your life forever! God wants to share His glory with you as He has with Jes us, so that never again will you face the trials of life that bring forth tears.

Do you have any tears you need to shed? Go ahead, let them flow. God is watching. He cares so much that He longs for the day when He can take them away! Its His greatest desire for your life that you may be with Him forever; where there will be no more tears!

Oh, dear fellow struggling Christian, hold on tight! Our God, our Redeemer lives! He sees our pain, and He is saving our tears for our future glory! Oh, let it be dear Lord, let it be!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Signs Of The New Birth"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 15, 2008

SIGNS OF THE NEW BIRTH

Ye must be born again.

John 3:7
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+3:7&sr=1

The answer to the question "How can a man he born when he is old?" is
- When he is old enough to die - to die right out to his "rag
rights," to his virtues, to his religion, to everything, and to
receive into himself the life which never was there before. The new
life manifests itself in conscious repentance and unconscious
holiness.

"As many as received Him." (John 1:12.) Is my knowledge of Jesus born
of internal spiritual perception, or is it only what I have learned
by listening to others? Have I something in my life that connects me
with the Lord Jesus as my personal Saviour? All spiritual history
must have a personal knowledge for its bedrock. To be born again
means that I see Jesus.

"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John
3:3.) Do I seek for signs of the Kingdom, or do I perceive God's
rule? The new birth gives a new power of vision whereby I begin to
discern God's rule. His rule was there all the time, but true to His
nature; now that I have received His nature I can see His rule.

"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin." (1 John 3:9.) Do I
seek to stop sinning or have I stopped sinning? To be born of God
means that I have the supernatural power of God to stop sinning. In
the Bible it is never - Should a Christian sin? The Bible puts it
emphatically - A Christian must not sin. The effective working of the
new birth life in us is that we do not commit sin, not merely that we
have the power not to sin, but that we have stopped sinning. 1 John
3:9 does not mean that we cannot sin; it means that if we obey the
life of God in us, we need not sin.

Praying with Paul : "Godly Gain"

GODLY GAIN

1 Timothy 6:1-10
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Timothy+6:1-10

Dear Father, whose truth is gentle,

Help us to find a heart to serve you, even in oppressive
circumstances.

Grant that our religion may not be a ground of conceit. May we not
love controversy, but rather avoid wrangling and contention. Help
us witness to your truth to others, but let it always be done in a
spirit of gentleness and truth-seeking.

May none of us be guilty of using anything connected with our
faith as a means of worldly gain. Help us to accept the great gain
that comes with a godliness combined with contentment.

We brought nothing into this world. You show us that we can take
nothing out, except for the treasures we lay up in heaven. Help us
to be content and not to seek material riches.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- The Power of His Word -- Mark 11:20-21

The Power of His Word

The next morning, Jesus was walking with his followers. They
saw the fig tree {that Jesus spoke to the day before}. The
fig tree was dry and dead, even the roots. Peter remembered
the tree and said to Jesus, "Teacher, look! Yesterday, you
told that fig tree to die. Now it is dry and dead!"

-- Mark 11:20-21 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
God spoke and the world was created. There is great power in the words
of God! Jesus comes as God's presence among us. His words have great
power. He speaks and the demons are cast out, the leprosy is healed,
the storm is stilled ... and the fruitless are cursed and wither. What
is the difference between fearing the words of Jesus and embracing
them? The answer is in who we believe Jesus is and how much influence
we let him have over our lives. Jesus' power to condemn is often
forgotten in our desire to have a soft and winsome Savior to offer a
hostile and lost world. However, the Cross -- the awful and hideous
cost to God -- is not only a symbol of grace, but also a demand for
decision. The voice we hear when Jesus speaks will be largely
determined by what we do with his words in our lives today. Which voice
of Jesus will you hear?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, thank you for the confidence I have in Jesus. I am confident
that the Lord to whom I have yielded my life will keep and honor all
that I have entrusted to his grace. I long to hear his voice of welcome
and to see him face to face. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Romans 8:15

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 15, 2008

VERSE:
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to
fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry,
"Abba, Father."
-- Romans 8:15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+8:15

THOUGHT:
God is so holy, so mighty, so awesome, and yet he bids us to
call him "Abba Father." Abba was a term of endearment, familiarity,
dependency, and love used by Jewish toddlers to address their
fathers. God, through the incredible gift of his Holy Spirit in us,
has given us this ultimate gift of availability, love,
companionship, protection, and mighty care. Abba! Sweet Abba
Father! My God, my LORD, the Sovereign ruler of heaven's armies and
Creator of the universe is also my Abba!

PRAYER:
Abba Father, thank you for being so close and yet so mighty, so
accessible and yet so holy, so tender and yet so trustworthy. Thank
you, dear Abba, for allowing me to come to you as your loving
child. In Jesus' name and by the power of the Holy Spirit I pray.
Amen.
