Today's Verse : Genesis 2:24

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 24, 2008

VERSE:
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be
united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
-- Genesis 2:24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Genesis+2:24

THOUGHT:
We are different! God makes us male and female so we can be
complements of each other. Each is made in God's image. God's
intention is that a husband and wife find their primary human
relationship with the other. They still honor their parents, but
their home is with each other. Their two lives become one. In this
context of lifetime security, they share in the intimate knowledge
of each other sexually -- becoming "one flesh." This relationship
is to be enjoyed (Proverbs 5), protected (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8),
and celebrated (Song of Solomon) for life (Matthew 19:6).

PRAYER:
Holy and Almighty Father, please bless me with strength to live
with integrity and purity in today's sexually charged world. Please
use your Spirit and your Word to instruct, correct, and convict me
as I seek to discover your truth for my relationships and celebrate
your will for my sexuality. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

God's Middle Name, by Russ Lawson

Children are always a source of wonder to me; they see things in such a
different light than we adults. My sister, Janet, shared this following
exchange between her and her 6 year old grandson Mason. They were in
the car going somewhere and Mason and his sister Sarah were talking
about God. Out of the blue Mason said, "Mamaw, What's God's middle
name?" She said she talked with him a while about some of the names
used to describe God in the Bible, but didn't know if she satisfied him
or not.

When she told me about this I immediately thought that she should have
told him it was Andy. Perhaps you've heard the story about the little
boy telling his mama that he knew God's name and that it was "Andy."

His mama asked him, "How do you know God's name is Andy."

The little boy said, "Because that's what it says in the song!" "What
song," she asked.

He replied, "The one we sing at church. It says, 'I come to the garden
alone while the dew is still on the roses. Andy walks with me. Andy
talks with me. Andy tells me I am his own.'"

Well, who can argue with logic like that! (Apologies to C. Austin
Miles, the writer of "I come to the Garden Alone"!)

Sometimes it takes a child to make God personal to us.

What is really wonderful is the simplicity of the way children approach
God. As an adult have you ever wondered how to address God. If you
listen to the prayers in your church, it's normally a very formal "Our
Heavenly Father ..." or "Our Father who art in heaven ..." There is
nothing wrong with addressing God in that way, but children want to
know God more personally. They are trying to figure out just who he is
and how he fits into their world.

As adults, we can sometimes overlook, or perhaps sometimes are afraid
of a personal relationship with God. We may fear him, or maybe it's
more that we deeply respect him, but often we don't see him as the
loving Father he really is! If we are ever going to have peace and
comfort in this life, somewhere along the line, we are going to have to
come to know God as someone who cares for us -- our loving Abba Father
(Romans 8:15-17). I'm not saying that we should show disrespect for
God, but how do you view him? Can you talk with him as a loving father?

Peter writes to encourage early Christians facing persecution with
these words:

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good
time he will honor you. Give all your worries and cares to God, for
he cares about what happens to you (1 Peter 5:6-7 NLT).

God really cares for us! Sometimes, however, it takes a child to make
God personal to us. How about stopping and having a word with your
Father who is in heaven, the God of the universe, and "give all your
worries and cares" to him!

Morning & Evening -- Hebrews 13:5 and Mark 10:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, February 23, 2008

MORNING:

"I will never leave thee."
-- Hebrews 13:5

No promise is of private interpretation. Whatever God has said to any
one saint, he has said to all. When he opens a well for one, it is that
all may drink. When he openeth a granary- door to give out food, there
may be some one starving man who is the occasion of its being opened,
but all hungry saints may come and feed too. Whether he gave the word
to Abraham or to Moses, matters not, O believer; he has given it to
thee as one of the covenanted seed. There is not a high blessing too
lofty for thee, nor a wide mercy too extensive for thee. Lift up now
thine eyes to the north and to the south, to the east and to the west,
for all this is thine. Climb to Pisgah's top, and view the utmost limit
of the divine promise, for the land is all thine own. There is not a
brook of living water of which thou mayst not drink. If the land
floweth with milk and honey, eat the honey and drink the milk, for both
are thine. Be thou bold to believe, for he hath said, "I will never
leave thee, nor forsake thee."In this promise, God gives to his people
everything. "I will never leave thee." Then no attribute of God can
cease to be engaged for us. Is he mighty? He will show himself strong
on the behalf of them that trust him. Is he love? Then with
lovingkindness will he have mercy upon us. Whatever attributes may
compose the character of Deity, every one of them to its fullest extent
shall be engaged on our side. To put everything in one, there is
nothing you can want, there is nothing you can ask for, there is
nothing you can need in time or in eternity, there is nothing living,
nothing dying, there is nothing in this world, nothing in the next
world, there is nothing now, nothing at the resurrection-morning,
nothing in heaven which is not contained in this text-"I will never
leave thee, nor forsake thee."

EVENING:

"Take up the cross, and follow me."
-- Mark 10:21

You have not the making of your own cross, although unbelief is a
master carpenter at cross-making; neither are you permitted to choose
your own cross, although self-will would fain be lord and master; but
your cross is prepared and appointed for you by divine love, and you
are cheerfully to accept it; you are to take up the cross as your
chosen badge and burden, and not to stand cavilling at it. This night
Jesus bids you submit your shoulder to his easy yoke. Do not kick at it
in petulance, or trample on it in vain-glory, or fall under it in
despair, or run away from it in fear, but take it up like a true
follower of Jesus. Jesus was a cross-bearer; he leads the way in the
path of sorrow. Surely you could not desire a better guide! And if he
carried a cross, what nobler burden would you desire? The Via Crucis is
the way of safety; fear not to tread its thorny paths.

Beloved, the cross is not made of feathers, or lined with velvet, it is
heavy and galling to disobedient shoulders; but it is not an iron
cross, though your fears have painted it with iron colours, it is a
wooden cross, and a man can carry it, for the Man of sorrows tried the
load. Take up your cross, and by the power of the Spirit of God you
will soon be so in love with it, that like Moses, you would not
exchange the reproach of Christ for all the treasures of Egypt.
Remember that Jesus carried it, and it will smell sweetly; remember
that it will soon be followed by the crown, and the thought of the
coming weight of glory will greatly lighten the present heaviness of
trouble. The Lord help you to bow your spirit in submission to the
divine will ere you fall asleep this night, that waking with
to-morrow's sun, you may go forth to the day's cross with the holy and
submissive spirit which becomes a follower of the Crucified.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Determination To Serve"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 23, 2008

THE DETERMINATION TO SERVE

The Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to
minister.

Matthew 20:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+20:28&sr=1

Paul's idea of service is the same as Our Lord's: "I am among you as
He that serveth;" "ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake." We have
the idea that a man called to the ministry is called to be a
different kind of being from other men. According to Jesus Christ, he
is called to be the "door-mat" of other men; their spiritual leader,
but never their superior. "I know how to be abased," says Paul. This
is Paul's idea of service - "I will spend myself to the last ebb for
you; you may give me praise or give me blame, it will make no
difference." So long as there is a human being who does not know
Jesus Christ, I am his debtor to serve him until he does. The
mainspring of Paul's service is not love for men, but love for Jesus
Christ. If we are devoted to the cause of humanity, we shall soon be
crushed and broken-hearted, for we shall often meet with more
ingratitude from men than we would from a dog; but if our motive is
love to God, no ingratitude can hinder us from serving our fellow
men.

Paul's realization of how Jesus Christ had dealt with him is the
secret of his determination to serve others. "I was before a
perjurer, a blasphemer, an injurious person" - no matter how men may
treat me, they will never treat me with the spite and hatred with
which I treated Jesus Christ. When we realize that Jesus Christ has
served us to the end of our meanness, our selfishness, and sin,
nothing that we meet with from others can exhaust our determination
to serve men for His sake.

Praying with Paul : "No Debt Except . . ."

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

NO DEBT EXCEPT . . .

Romans 13:8-10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+13:8-10

Dear Father, senior partner in my business,

Help me get completely out of debt and stay out! Let me follow
your word, "Owe no man anything! . . . except to love one another."

Help me be a good steward of my business affairs. Spur me on to
work smart as well as hard. Let me be very wise, even shrewd, in
the way I order my business. While conserving resources, let me
move forward, even taking risks when such is best.

Help me, Father, to see you as the senior partner in what I do.
And may I always render a generous portion of my income to do your
work in the world.

In the name of Jesus and with the Spirit's help, I ask these
things. Amen.

Unforgivable

I tell you the truth. All sins that people do can be
forgiven. And all the bad things people say against God can
be forgiven. But any person that says bad things against
(refuses to accept) the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven.
He will always be guilty of that sin." Jesus said this
because the teachers of the law said that Jesus had an evil
spirit (devil) inside him.

-- Mark 3:28-30 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
So many people have shared a concern that they may be guilty of this
sin. Take heart, dear friend, and let Jesus' word come to you clearly.
The sin is to keep saying that what Jesus did was done by an evil
spirit or a demon rather than by the Spirit of God. Even if you may
have assigned Jesus' works to something evil at one time in your life,
you are not doing so now. You are not guilty. Look on the positive side
of this command. If you want to see what the Spirit of God does in a
human being when the Holy Spirit takes control, look at Jesus! What
Jesus does in his daily life is a demonstration of God's will empowered
by the Holy Spirit.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father in heaven, I recognize that the greatest gift given to me was my
salvation by Jesus demonstrated through the forgiveness of my sins and
through the gift your Son gave me in the Holy Spirit. Please help the
Spirit's fruit to be seen in my life as your Spirit conforms me to be
more and more like your Son. In Jesus' name. Amen.
