=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Overlooked Treasure, by Tim Archer

Over the years, I've enjoyed the television program Antique Roadshow on
PBS. The show travels to different locations around the country and
experts in furniture, coins, art, clothing, etc. wait as people bring
in everything from junk to historical treasures. Those bringing items
to be appraised often have no idea of the value of what they are
bringing. Some come out of curiosity; others come wanting to show off
their family heirlooms. A few come out of desperation, hoping to be
told that they own something that others will pay a fortune for.

In one memorable episode, an elderly gentleman brought in a blanket
that had hung in his grandmother's house for years. The tradition in
the family was that the blanket had once belonged to Kit Carson, so the
man thought that it might be valuable. Don Ellis, expert in Indian
artifacts, told the man that the blanket could be worth as much as half
a million dollars, not because of the connection to Carson, but because
of the historical value of this relic merely as an example of Indian
artisanship. Ellis called it "a national treasure."

The blanket's owner, identified only as Ted, began to cry. He said, "My
grandparents and parents were poor farmers ...." He was thrilled to
discover that he possessed such a treasure, yet couldn't help but
lament the fact that his family had gone all that time without
realizing what they had. They had lived in poverty, while owning
something worth a fortune.

We often overlook the treasure that is available to us

I see lots of people living that way every day. So much hurt, so much
suffering, such a lack of hope, while God freely offers exactly what
they need. They struggle to find strength for the day, while God longs
to give them power without measure. They search for meaning and
purpose, while God waits with the eternal perspective that makes sense
of everything. These people deal with guilt, remorse and shame, while
God offers forgiveness and a new start. The treasure is there for the
taking. All they have to do is recognize the value of what God has to
offer.

The apostle Paul wrote: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so
that you through his poverty might become rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).
God offers us riches beyond belief, not in material goods, but in
spiritual ones, valuables that will never waste away. All we have to do
is accept the treasure He has to offer.

I'd like to tell you more. Write to me at tim@hopeforlife.org or visit
our blog at www.hopeforlife.org. Don't overlook the treasure that is
yours for the taking.

Are you presently experiencing a new life? God's word says, "if anyone
is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come!"

This new life is a free gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ. If
you want to know more about this life that only Jesus can give you,
sign up for one of our Bible courses. Wherever you are in life,
whatever you've done, you can begin again.

You may also contact us at info@hopeforlife.org if you have questions
about becoming a new creation.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 21:11 and Psalms 72:19

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

MORNING:

"Watchman, what of the night?"
-- Isaiah 21:11

What enemies are abroad? Errors are a numerous horde, and new ones
appear every hour: against what heresy am I to be on my guard? Sins
creep from their lurking places when the darkness reigns; I must myself
mount the watch-tower, and watch unto prayer. Our heavenly Protector
foresees all the attacks which are about to be made upon us, and when
as yet the evil designed us is but in the desire of Satan, he prays for
us that our faith fail not, when we are sifted as wheat. Continue O
gracious Watchman, to forewarn us of our foes, and for Zion's sake hold
not thy peace.

"Watchman, what of the night?" What weather is coming for the Church?
Are the clouds lowering, or is it all clear and fair overhead? We must
care for the Church of God with anxious love; and now that Popery and
infidelity are both threatening, let us observe the signs of the times
and prepare for conflict.

"Watchman, what of the night?" What stars are visible? What precious
promises suit our present case? You sound the alarm, give us the
consolation also. Christ, the polestar, is ever fixed in his place, and
all the stars are secure in the right hand of their Lord.

But watchman, when comes the morning? The Bridegroom tarries. Are there
no signs of his coming forth as the Sun of Righteousness? Has not the
morning star arisen as the pledge of day? When will the day dawn, and
the shadows flee away? O Jesus, if thou come not in person to thy
waiting Church this day, yet come in Spirit to my sighing heart, and
make it sing for joy.

"Now all the earth is bright and glad
With the fresh morn;
But all my heart is cold, and dark and sad:
Sun of the soul, let me behold thy dawn!
Come, Jesus, Lord,
O quickly come, according to thy word."

EVENING:

"Let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and
Amen."
-- Psalms 72:19

This is a large petition. To intercede for a whole city needs a stretch
of faith, and there are times when a prayer for one man is enough to
stagger us. But how far-reaching was the psalmist's dying intercession!
How comprehensive! How sublime! "Let the whole earth be filled with his
glory." It doth not exempt a single country however crushed by the foot
of superstition; it doth not exclude a single nation however barbarous.
For the cannibal as well as for the civilized, for all climes and races
this prayer is uttered: the whole circle of the earth it encompasses,
and omits no son of Adam. We must be up and doing for our Master, or we
cannot honestly offer such a prayer. The petition is not asked with a
sincere heart unless we endeavour, as God shall help us, to extend the
kingdom of our Master. Are there not some who neglect both to plead and
to labour? Reader, is it your prayer? Turn your eyes to Calvary. Behold
the Lord of Life nailed to a cross, with the thorn-crown about his
brow, with bleeding head, and hands, and feet. What! can you look upon
this miracle of miracles, the death of the Son of God, without feeling
within your bosom a marvellous adoration that language never can
express? And when you feel the blood applied to your conscience, and
know that he has blotted out your sins, you are not a man unless you
start from your knees and cry, "Let the whole earth be filled with his
glory; Amen, and Amen." Can you bow before the Crucified in loving
homage, and not wish to see your Monarch master of the world? Out on
you if you can pretend to love your Prince, and desire not to see him
the universal ruler. Your piety is worthless unless it leads you to
wish that the same mercy which has been extended to you may bless the
whole world. Lord, it is harvest-time, put in thy sickle and reap.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: John-Like, 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
John-Like, 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Matthew 11:5 NIV

In other words, the work you were preparing, John, continues even today. Lives are changing and you were a major part of that happening.

Jesus reply to John the Baptist wasnt what he might have expected. John was in prison for doing exactly what God had told him to do. He was doing the same work as Christ. He simply wanted to know if Jesus was coming to help him, since Jesus was clearly helping so many others. Jesus really doesnt answer Johns question, except to reassure John that the plan to share Jesus with others was still going strong.

Do you sometimes fail to get the answer you are looking for from God? You ask for one thing and He gives you something totally different, really without much explanation. You are counting on God to relieve you of a situation, but instead yo u seem to get deeper into the problems of the situation. And, sometimes, you hear nothing.

You and I need to remember that Gods ways are not our ways. Sometimes His plans dont coincide with what we feel is the right answer to our problem. God is looking at our life from a heavenly perspective, not through time, but through eternity. His sovereignty assures us ultimate victory, since He is working all things for good in our life. In the meantime, our role is to trust that God is who He says He is and that He is still working a perfect plan.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Cross In Prayer"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 6, 2008

THE CROSS IN PRAYER

At that day ye shall ask in My name.

John 16:26
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+16:26&sr=1

We are too much given to thinking of the Cross as something we have
to get through; we get through it only in order to get into it. The
Cross stands for one thing only for us - a complete and entire and
absolute identification with the Lord Jesus Christ, and there is
nothing in which this identification is realized more than in prayer.

"Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him."
Then why ask? The idea of prayer is not in order to get answers from
God; prayer is perfect and complete oneness with God. If we pray
because we want answers, we will get huffed with God. The answers
come every time, but not always in the way we expect, and our
spiritual huff shows a refusal to identify ourselves with Our Lord in
prayer. We are not here to prove God answers prayer; we are here to
be living monuments of God's grace.

"I say not that I will pray the Father for you: for the Father
Himself loveth you." Have you reached such an intimacy with God that
the Lord Jesus Christ's life of prayer is the only explanation of
your life of prayer? Has Our Lord's vicarious life become your vital
life? "At that day" you will be so identified with Jesus that there
will be no distinction.

When prayer seems to be unanswered, beware of trying to fix the blame
on someone else. That is always a snare of Satan. You will find there
is a reason which is a deep instruction to you, not to anyone else.

ENEMIES INTO FRIENDS

1 Timothy 1:16-17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Timothy+1:16-17

Dear Father, king of the ages,

Thank you for the cleansing of our sins through Christ. Thank you
that you take people who are in outright opposition to your will,
as was Saul of Tarsus, and hundreds since him, and bring them up
short, rebuke their disobedience, and then enlist them in your own
army.

Praise you, God, for making friends of your former enemies. All
glory to you for the demonstration of patience made perfect.

Now to you, King of the Ages, immortal, invisible, the only God,
be glory and honor for ever and ever. Amen.

WJD! -- What Do You Want Me To Do? -- Mark 10:51-52

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

What Do You Want Me To Do?

Jesus asked the man, "What do you want me to do for you?" The
blind man answered, "Teacher, I want to see again." Jesus
said, "Go. You are healed because you believed." Then the man
was able to see again. He followed Jesus on the road.

-- Mark 10:51-52 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Isn't that such a simple question? Wouldn't we better serve others if
we asked them questions, listened to their answers, honored their
request, and then affirmed their commitment and faith? Unfortunately we
often think we know best how to help people, so we do what we think
best rather than asking them what they need. While we can't honor every
wish and sometimes people's needs seem self-evident and
straightforward, asking them for input gives them the opportunity to
share what's on their hearts, and to express their needs while at the
same time it affirms their dignity at a time when they may feel like
they have lost every shred of dignity.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, help me to patiently wait and look for ways to help and serve
others in your name. Give me the wisdom to do what they need, the
patience to listen to them as they express that need, and the
tenderness to invite them to let me share their burden. In Jesus' name
I ask for this help. Amen.

Today's Verse : Hebrews 8:6

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 6, 2008

VERSE:
But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs
[Those who served as priests in Old Testament times.] as the
covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it
is founded on better promises.
-- Hebrews 8:6
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Hebrews+8:6

THOUGHT:
The Old Testament is a beautiful covenant of love, as God
redeems fallen mankind and sets in motion his plan of grace to
bring us to Jesus. But as powerful as that old covenant was, we
have come to a superior covenant because the mediator of this new
covenant is Jesus, who is the perfect sacrifice and guarantor of
God's great promises.

PRAYER:
Thank you, Almighty God, for sending Jesus to fulfill the
promises and carry out the plan you set in place so long ago and
revealed by your prophets of old. I thank you and praise you in the
name of Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
