Today's Verse : Romans 15:1

VERSE:
We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak
and not to please ourselves.
-- Romans 15:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:1

THOUGHT:
Dear friend of Jesus, have patience with those around you who
are not yet what God intends for them to be -- remembering also
that we are not yet what God intends for us to be. In the process
of "bearing with" their failings, you may just find that others are
more patient with your failings and more thankful for your
faithfulness. Of course, the goal of our being patient isn't to
benefit ourselves. Instead, we do it to bless others, knowing that
many of our brothers and sisters in Christ are hanging on to their
faith, hope, and love by the thinnest of threads. Let's never let
them go and never cause them to stumble!

PRAYER:
Tender Shepherd, give me more patience with those who are
struggling and who need your strength and my encouragement. Forgive
me for not noticing their struggles the way that you do. Help me
show them how patient you are as you perfect them in your holiness.
Thank you, O Lord, for your help in this area of my heart as I seek
to be a blessing to my brothers and sisters in grace. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Abraham Three

"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." Genesis 12:3 NIV

God is going to take care of His people. He did so in history, and He will do so today!

There was once a boy in our neighborhood that liked to pick on my son. He was several years older than my son was, and much bigger, and since we don't encourage fighting, my son always felt threatened. It was some time before I realized what was going on, but I remember feeling an overwhelming need to protect my son. I explained to the boy (believe it or not in a fairly nice way) that it was my job to protect my son, and if he was going to fight with my son, he was going to have fight with me. I gave my son permission to defend himself, and I assured him that I would certainly back him up if he needed me. Once the boy knew he wasn't my son had backing, his threats didn't last very long.

When I was in school, if a bully picked on you, sometimes a bigger kid would defend you by saying "I've got your back". That meant that he would step in to defend you if he needed to. Being a rather small kid, it was always a good feeling to know someone was looking out for you.

As a Christian, through the promise God gave to Abram, God has our back! He is protecting us from the bullies of this world. Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the struggles of this world? Do you ever feel that situations and challenges are more than you can face alone? Do you need someone who can "cover your back"? I have some Good News for you today! God's got you covered! If you are His child, the Sovereign Hand of the Almighty covers your life!

Thank God today that He's "got your back"!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Hope for Life, by Tim Archer

Viktor Frankl was a Jew living in Nazi Germany. He was arrested and
sent to a Nazi death camp. There he watched men live in inhuman
conditions, saw many stronger than he wither and die, and learned
lessons about survival. One of the key things he observed was the power
of hope. Those who had hope could survive almost anything; those who
didn't, died. As Frankl put it, "The prisoner who had lost faith in the
future -- his future -- was doomed. With his loss of belief in the
future, he also lost his spiritual hold; he let himself decline and
became subject to mental and physical decay."

At HopeforLife.com, we believe that there is hope. We believe that it
not only exists, but that it can be found. We know because we've found
it and know many others who have as well. The hope that we have found
comes from God, the source of all true hope. Others fall short: dreams
of power, wishes for pleasure, longings for riches. None of those can
transcend this life and reach beyond the grave. Only God can give us a
hope that will not fade, a hope that cannot be tarnished by death or
disease.

As human beings, we desperately need hope. This world is a cold, empty
place without it.

Jesus Christ came to this world to bring that hope to mankind. It's not
enough for hope to exist; it's only when we are able to find it that it
does us any good. Jesus came not only to embody hope, but also to give
us something to hope in. Through him, we can hope to live forever. That
life of hope can be lived now; Jesus made it possible for us to find,
live in and share with others the same hope.

As human beings, we desperately need hope. This world is a cold, empty
place without it. With hope, we can face any circumstance. The apostle
Paul wrote, "In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret
of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things
through him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:12-13). Jesus Christ and
the hope that he gives allow us to face every situation this life can
offer.

If you are facing a hope crisis in your life, contact me and let's talk
more about hope and the God who gives it. Just write me at

Morning & Evening -- Zephaniah 1:5 and Genesis 29:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

MORNING:

"I will cut off them that worship and that swear by the Lord,
and that swear by Malcham."
-- Zephaniah 1:5

Such persons thought themselves safe because they were with both
parties: they went with the followers of Jehovah, and bowed at the same
time to Malcham. But duplicity is abominable with God, and hypocrisy
his soul hateth. The idolater who distinctly gives himself to his false
god, has one sin less than he who brings his polluted and detestable
sacrifice unto the temple of the Lord, while his heart is with the
world and the sins thereof. To hold with the hare and run with the
hounds, is a dastard's policy. In the common matters of daily life, a
double- minded man is despised, but in religion he is loathsome to the
last degree. The penalty pronounced in the verse before us is terrible,
but it is well deserved; for how should divine justice spare the
sinner, who knows the right, approves it, and professes to follow it,
and all the while loves the evil, and gives it dominion in his heart?

My soul, search thyself this morning, and see whether thou art guilty
of double-dealing. Thou professest to be a follower of Jesus-dost thou
truly love him? Is thy heart right with God? Art thou of the family of
old Father Honest, or art thou a relative of Mr. By-ends? A name to
live is of little value if I be indeed dead in trespasses and sins. To
have one foot on the land of truth, and another on the sea of
falsehood, will involve a terrible fall and a total ruin. Christ will
be all or nothing. God fills the whole universe, and hence there is no
room for another god; if, then, he reigns in my heart, there will be no
space for another reigning power. Do I rest alone on Jesus crucified,
and live alone for him? Is it my desire to do so? Is my heart set upon
so doing? If so, blessed be the mighty grace which has led me to
salvation; and if not so, O Lord, pardon my sad offence, and unite my
heart to fear thy name.

EVENING:

"And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to
give the younger before the firstborn."
-- Genesis 29:26

We do not excuse Laban for his dishonesty, but we scruple not to learn
from the custom which he quoted as his excuse. There are some things
which must be taken in order, and if we would win the second we must
secure the first. The second may be the more lovely in our eyes, but
the rule of the heavenly country must stand, and the elder must be
married first. For instance, many men desire the beautiful and
well-favoured Rachel of joy and peace in believing, but they must first
be wedded to the tender-eyed Leah of repentance. Every one falls in
love with happiness, and many would cheerfully serve twice seven years
to enjoy it, but according to the rule of the Lord's kingdom, the Leah
of real holiness must be beloved of our soul before the Rachel of true
happiness can be attained. Heaven stands not first but second, and only
by persevering to the end can we win a portion in it. The cross must be
carried before the crown can be worn. We must follow our Lord in his
humiliation, or we shall never rest with him in glory.

My soul, what sayest thou, art thou so vain as to hope to break through
the heavenly rule? Dost thou hope for reward without labour, or honour
without toil? Dismiss the idle expectation, and be content to take the
ill-favoured things for the sake of the sweet love of Jesus, which will
recompense thee for all. In such a spirit, labouring and suffering,
thou wilt find bitters grow sweet, and hard things easy. Like Jacob,
thy years of service will seem unto thee but a few days for the love
thou hast to Jesus; and when the dear hour of the wedding feast shall
come, all thy toils shall be as though they had never been-an hour with
Jesus will make up for ages of pain and labour.

Jesus, to win thyself so fair,
Thy cross I will with gladness bear:
Since so the rules of heaven ordain,
The first I'll wed the next to gain.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Discovering Divine Designs"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 14, 2007

DISCOVERING DIVINE DESIGNS

I being in the way, the Lord led me...

Genesis 24:27

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ge+24:27&sr=1

We have to be so one with God that we do not continually need to ask
for guidance. Sanctification means that we are made the children of
God, and the natural life of a child is obedience - until he wishes
to be disobedient, then instantly there is the intuitive jar. In the
spiritual domain the intuitive jar is the monition of the Spirit of
God. When He gives the check, we have to stop at once and be renewed
in the spirit of our mind in order to make out what God's will is. If
we are born again of the Spirit of God, it is the abortion of piety
to ask God to guide us here and there. "The Lord led me," and on
looking back we see the presence of an amazing design, which, if we
are born of God, we will credit to God.

We can all see God in exceptional things, but it requires the culture
of spiritual discipline to see God in every detail. Never allow that
the haphazard is anything less than God's appointed order, and be
ready to discover the Divine designs any where.

Beware of making a fetish of consistency to your convictions instead
of being devoted to God. I shall never do that - in all probability
you will have to, if you are a saint. There never was a more
inconsistent Being on this earth than Our Lord, but He was never
inconsistent to His Father. The one consistency of the saint is not
to a principle, but to the Divine life. It is the Divine life which
continually makes more and more discoveries about the Divine mind. It
is easier to be a fanatic than a faithful soul, because there is
something amazingly humbling, particularly to our religious conceit,
in being loyal to God.

TIME TO PRAY

Ephesians 6:18-19

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+6:18-19

Dear Father,

May I fill my time with prayer and entreaties to you. Help me to
keep alert for prayer. And to keep on, and keep on, and keep on.

I offer supplications for your holy soldiers everywhere,
especially those who preach your word. Give them the words and the
boldness they need to publish openly the secret of your Good News
about Jesus and his resurrection victory!

In the name of Jesus and by his authority I ask for victory
against everything that stands in opposition to your will, our
eternal good. Amen.

WJD! -- By Whose Authority? -- Luke 20:1-8

By Whose Authority?

One day Jesus was in the temple area. He was teaching the
people. Jesus told the people the Good News {about the
kingdom of God}. The leading priests, teachers of the law,
and older Jewish leaders came to talk to Jesus. They said,
"Tell us! What authority do you have to do these things? Who
gave you this authority?" Jesus answered, "I will ask you a
question too. Tell me: When John baptized people, did that
come from God or was it only from other people?" The priests,
the teachers of the law, and the Jewish leaders all talked
about this. They said to each other, "If we answer, 'John's
baptism was from God,' then he will say, 'Then why did you
not believe John?' But if we say that John's baptism was from
someone else, {not God,} then all the people will kill us
with rocks. They will kill us because they believe that John
was a prophet." So they answered, "We don't know the answer."
So Jesus said to them, "Then I will not tell you what
authority I use to do these things!"

-- Luke 20:1-8 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus has now entered the battlefield. Yes, he is in the Temple of God.
However, his opponents are now going to bombard him with questions in
hopes of getting him to commit some heinous religious offense that they
can use to make him seem scandalous. Jesus' agenda, on the other hand,
is to share the Good News. So outwitting his opponents at their own
game, he sends them away with a question they didn't want to answer.
They won't answer him, so he sends them away without an answer to their
question. He is there to minister. He won't get caught up in their
games with the end so near. Let's remember that we must not let
religious games ever take the place of God's mission and ministry
through us.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, forgive me for getting so upset sometimes with religious
questions. I know there are important issues of truth. Please help me
see these. On the other hand, dear Father, I don't want to get caught
up in the religious arguments and miss the opportunity to minister to
others as you would have me do. Please remove any contentious spirit
from me and help me to focus on the things that are matters of your
concern. In Jesus' name. Amen.
