Today's Verse : Genesis 3:6

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 6, 2008

VERSE:
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food
and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she
took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was
with her, and he ate it.
-- Genesis 3:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Genesis+3:6

THOUGHT:
Ouch! We've known the way of sin for thousands of years. Yet we
sometimes still follow the same path. We're lured by something
pleasing to our eyes. We pause for closer inspection of it,
allowing ourselves to be caught up in its desirability. We dabble
in it and play with it. We then participate in the sin. Finally, we
involve others in sin. You'd think we would have learned the
pattern and would have stopped by now. So with the help of the Holy
Spirit, why don't we start trying to do just that?

PRAYER:
Father, please forgive me for my rebellious and sinful heart. I
want to live wholly for you. I don't want to be captured by the
allure of sin or tempted by worldly passions, but I do want to
passionately live a godly life for your glory. In Jesus' mighty
name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Holding On Through the storm

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Holding On Through the storm
Hold On By: Ron Edmondson
Do not be a terror to me; you are my refuge in the day of disaster. Jeremiah 17:17 NIV

The life of a Christian is not always smooth sailing. I'm quite sorry if you are new to the faith and that statement surprises or disappoints you. Sometimes the outside world assumes that because we claim to know God personally that we have somehow risen above the stresses of life. That is far from the truth.

No, the Christian life is filled with strife. At times life is glorious, and at those times we can easily see the hand of our God at work in our lives. Other times, however, life gets to be a bitter battle just to stay afloat. We drift along, sometimes barely holding on to the hand of our Creator.

But we do hold on. And, praise His name, He holds on to us. He has never let one of His children go; not one of them has ever been forsaken. We hold on to the promises that His love never fails; that He will never let us be put to shame; that His strength is perfect w hen our strength is gone.

We trust; we lean; we grab tight as we walk through the valleys, longing and hoping for the day of victory; for another trip to the mountain top; in which we have full confidence will one day come. We can stand tall through the painful toils, because our Redeemer lives and He is our refuge through every storm of life.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

The Golden Rule, by Skye Noe

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,
for this sums up the Law and the Prophets" (Mathew 7:12).

This phrase of Jesus spoken during the Sermon on the Mount is referred
to as the Golden Rule. I am curious how the world would react if the
Golden Rule was enforced.

Consider how our lives would be if the way that we treat people
determines the way others treat us in return. People would speak more
encouragingly to each other and hesitate to raise their voice. Taking a
drive in traffic would be easier, no longer being cut off at every
angle. Even politicians would find a way to be polite.

How would this effect our Christian lives? How would church be
different? Perhaps the visitors would receive special attention and be
invited to a place of honor as guest. Christian groups would cease to
gossip and slander one another over meaningless traditions.

Jesus warns us about the temptation to judge others and implies that
the Golden Rule will also apply to judgment.

Give grace freely as though you are the one receiving it.

"Do not Judge, or you will be judged. For in the same way you judge
others you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you" (Mathew 7:1-2).

In a world plagued by hatred and envy, Jesus calls us to the principles
of forgiveness. Jesus makes clear that we are to love our neighbor in
thought and in deed. Treat your neighbor as you would want to be
treated and judge him as you would have God judge you.

Let us continue to work toward a loving church and devoted community by
committing our lives to a rule of grace. If you would like to learn
more about the Grace and community of God please visit our website at

Morning & Evening -- 1 Thessalonians 5:6 and Psalms 35:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 5, 2008

MORNING:

"Let us not sleep, as do others."
-- 1 Thessalonians 5:6

There are many ways of promoting Christian wakefulness. Among the rest,
let me strongly advise Christians to converse together concerning the
ways of the Lord. Christian and Hopeful, as they journeyed towards the
Celestial City, said to themselves, "To prevent drowsiness in this
place, let us fall into good discourse." Christian enquired, "Brother,
where shall we begin?" And Hopeful answered, "Where God began with us."
Then Christian sang this song-

"When saints do sleepy grow, let them come hither,
And hear how these two pilgrims talk together;
Yea, let them learn of them, in any wise,
Thus to keep open their drowsy slumb'ring eyes.
Saints' fellowship, if it be managed well,
Keeps them awake, and that in spite of hell."

Christians who isolate themselves and walk alone, are very liable to
grow drowsy. Hold Christian company, and you will be kept wakeful by
it, and refreshed and encouraged to make quicker progress in the road
to heaven. But as you thus take "sweet counsel" with others in the ways
of God, take care that the theme of your converse is the Lord Jesus.
Let the eye of faith be constantly looking unto him; let your heart be
full of him; let your lips speak of his worth. Friend, live near to the
cross, and thou wilt not sleep. Labour to impress thyself with a deep
sense of the value of the place to which thou art going. If thou
rememberest that thou art going to heaven, thou wilt not sleep on the
road. If thou thinkest that hell is behind thee, and the devil pursuing
thee, thou wilt not loiter. Would the manslayer sleep with the avenger
of blood behind him, and the city of refuge before him? Christian, wilt
thou sleep whilst the pearly gates are open-the songs of angels waiting
for thee to join them-a crown of gold ready for thy brow? Ah! no; in
holy fellowship continue to watch and pray that ye enter not into
temptation.

EVENING:

"Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation."
-- Psalms 35:3

What does this sweet prayer teach me? It shall be my evening's
petition; but first let it yield me an instructive meditation. The text
informs me first of all that David had his doubts; for why should he
pray, "Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation," if he were not sometimes
exercised with doubts and fears? Let me, then, be of good cheer, for I
am not the only saint who has to complain of weakness of faith. If
David doubted, I need not conclude that I am no Christian because I
have doubts. The text reminds me that David was not content while he
had doubts and fears, but he repaired at once to the mercy-seat to pray
for assurance; for he valued it as much fine gold. I too must labour
after an abiding sense of my acceptance in the Beloved, and must have
no joy when his love is not shed abroad in my soul. When my Bridegroom
is gone from me, my soul must and will fast. I learn also that David
knew where to obtain full assurance. He went to his God in prayer,
crying, "Say unto my soul I am thy salvation." I must be much alone
with God if I would have a clear sense of Jesus' love. Let my prayers
cease, and my eye of faith will grow dim. Much in prayer, much in
heaven; slow in prayer, slow in progress. I notice that David would not
be satisfied unless his assurance had a divine source. "Say unto my
soul." Lord, do thou say it! Nothing short of a divine testimony in the
soul will ever content the true Christian. Moreover, David could not
rest unless his assurance had a vivid personality about it. "Say unto
my soul, I am thy salvation." Lord, if thou shouldst say this to all
the saints, it were nothing, unless thou shouldst say it to me. Lord, I
have sinned; I deserve not thy smile; I scarcely dare to ask it; but
oh! say to my soul, even to my soul, "I am thy salvation." Let me have
a present, personal, infallible, indisputable sense that I am thine,
and that thou art mine.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Is He Really Lord?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 5, 2008

IS HE REALLY LORD?

... so that I might finish my course with joy, and the
ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus.

Acts 20:24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+20:24&sr=1

Joy means the perfect fulfilment of that for which I was created and
regenerated, not the successful doing of a thing. The joy Our Lord
had lay in doing what the Father sent Him to do, and He says - "As My
Father hath sent Me, even so am I sending you." Have I received a
ministry from the Lord? If so, I have to be loyal to it, to count my
life precious only for the fulfilling of that ministry. Think of the
satisfaction it will be to hear Jesus say - "Well done, good and
faithful servant"; to know that you have done what He sent you to do.
We have all to find our niche in life, and spiritually we find it
when we receive our ministry from the Lord. In order to do this we
must have companied with Jesus; we must know Him as more than a
personal Saviour. "I will show him how great things he must suffer
for My sake."

"Lovest thou Me?" Then - "Feed My sheep." There is no choice of
service, only absolute loyalty to Our Lord's commission; loyalty to
what you discern when you are in closest contact with God. If you
have received a ministry from the Lord Jesus, you will know that the
need is never the call: the need is the opportunity. The call is
loyalty to the ministry you received when you were in real touch with
Him. This does not imply that there is a campaign of service marked
out for you, but it does mean that you will have to ignore the
demands for service along other lines.

Praying with Paul : "Generosity toward Israel"

GENEROSITY TOWARD ISRAEL

Romans 15:25-29

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:25-29

Dear Father, God of Israel,

Give us generous hearts toward the Jewish people throughout the
world. "They are Israelites, and to them belong the sonship, the
glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, the
promises, and the patriarchs; and of their race, according to the
flesh, is the Christ."

We know that "as regards the gospel, they are enemies of God" for
our sake, but "as regards election, they are beloved for the sake
of their forefathers." According to your word we who are not Jews
are in debt to them. Since we have come to share in their spiritual
blessings, put it into our hearts to share sympathy and our
material blessings with them.

Help all of us come to share in the fullness of the blessing of
Christ. In the name of Jesus we ask, praying with all our hearts
that Israel according to the flesh will come to faith in your Son.
Amen.

WJD! -- Great Harvest! -- Mark 4:20

Great Harvest!

"Other people are like the seed planted on the good ground.
They hear the teaching and accept it. Then they grow and make
fruit--sometimes 30 times more, sometimes 60 times more, and
sometimes 100 times more."

-- Mark 4:20 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus wants us to be productive in our service to his kingdom. In fact,
he is working in the lives of those who are fully yielded to him to
bring about a great harvest. Like a small seed, the power of the
Kingdom is multiplied through the lives of those fully yielded to
Jesus!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O LORD God, help me yield myself completely to your will. May the
things I do in my life bring you glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
