Holy in All Your Manner of Life (1)

Holy in All Your Manner of Life (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 1:14 As children of obedience, do not be fashioned
according to the former lusts in your ignorance; 15 But
according to the Holy One who called you, you yourselves also
be holy in all your manner of life; 16 Because it is written,
``You shall be holy because I am holy.''
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Part 1 of 3)
We should not be conformed to the former lusts. This means that
we should not shape ourselves according to them. Formerly, we
were ignorant. But now, having become children of obedience, we
are knowledgeable.

The Holy One [v. 15] is the Triune God--the choosing Father,
the redeeming Son, and the sanctifying Spirit (vv. 1-2). The
Father has regenerated His elect, imparting His holy nature
into them (v. 3); the Son has redeemed them with His blood from
the vain manner of life (vv. 18-19); and the Spirit has
sanctified them according to the Father's holy nature,
separating them from anything other than God, that they, by the
holy nature of the Father, may become holy in all their manner
of life, even as holy as God Himself.

We become holy in all our manner of life through the
sanctification of the Spirit. This is based on regeneration,
which brings us the holy nature of God and issues in a holy
life. We ourselves need to become holy. This is not merely a
matter of wearing a certain kind of clothing or of not wearing
makeup. That concept of holiness is too outward. Our being, our
disposition, our entire person, should become holy. This is for
us to become holy in all our manner of life.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Changing Seasons, by Tim Archer

I live in Texas in the northern hemisphere. Here, springtime is just
beginning. For fifteen years of my life, I lived in Argentina in the
southern hemisphere where at this time of the year they are moving into
autumn. It takes time to become used to the differences. For example,
when people in the United States want to talk about something that is
extremely unlikely, they say, "It'll be a cold day in July before that
happens." To which many of our southern hemisphere friends reply, "Most
July days are cold."

It's my experience that all of life is this way. While some people are
living in the sunshine, others are living in moments of darkness. I
have a vivid memory of the night that my son was born. At the hospital,
I was in the lobby using a pay phone to tell my in-laws the news that a
delivery was imminent. (This was in the dark ages, in the 1990s, when
people didn't carry cell phones.) As I shared with them this message of
joy, a family burst onto the scene, obviously distraught. One of the
young men picked up a large piece of furniture and started to hurl it
across the room before someone stopped him. It was a scene of grief
that stood in stark contrast with the joyful moments that I was living.
That's how life is. Some rejoice while others weep. Some receive while
others lose.

The changing seasons of our lives require faith.

Just as the earth moves and the seasons change, so sorrow and joy ebb
and flow throughout all of humanity. If we live long enough, we will
have moments of great happiness and we will have moments of great hurt.
Our circumstances will change from year to year and even from day to
day. Some of us will experience more suffering than others, yet we all
will pass through those hard times.

I want to invite you to watch some of the videos on our website,
HopeForLife.org. These videos tell of people who faced moments of pain
and loss, hard times and difficult days, yet who came through it all
with hope. They did so not because of their own specialness, but
because of the God who saw them through those times with an unending
hope. Along with the videos, you can read articles that speak of hope
and how to find it.

If you're in a moment of pain, I hope you'll take the time to hear some
words of hope. If you are living through a good time, I hope you'll
take the time to prepare yourself for the not-so-good times. As always,
I'd love to hear from you. Write to me at tim@hopeforlife.org or leave
a comment on our blog at www.hopeforlife.org/blog.

Morning & Evening -- Romans 8:37 and Revelation 5:6

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

MORNING:

"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through
him that loved us."
-- Romans 8:37

We go to Christ for forgiveness, and then too often look to the law for
power to fight our sins. Paul thus rebukes us, "O foolish Galatians,
who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth? This only
would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law,
or by the hearing of faith? are ye so foolish? having begun in the
Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?" Take your sins to
Christ's cross, for the old man can only be crucified there: we are
crucified with him. The only weapon to fight sin with is the spear
which pierced the side of Jesus. To give an illustration-you want to
overcome an angry temper, how do you go to work? It is very possible
you have never tried the right way of going to Jesus with it. How did I
get salvation? I came to Jesus just as I was, and I trusted him to save
me. I must kill my angry temper in the same way? It is the only way in
which I can ever kill it. I must go to the cross with it, and say to
Jesus, "Lord, I trust thee to deliver me from it." This is the only way
to give it a death-blow. Are you covetous? Do you feel the world
entangle you? You may struggle against this evil so long as you please,
but if it be your besetting sin, you will never be delivered from it in
any way but by the blood of Jesus. Take it to Christ. Tell him, "Lord,
I have trusted thee, and thy name is Jesus, for thou dost save thy
people from their sins; Lord, this is one of my sins; save me from it!"
Ordinances are nothing without Christ as a means of mortification. Your
prayers, and your repentances, and your tears-the whole of them put
together-are worth nothing apart from him. "None but Jesus can do
helpless sinners good;" or helpless saints either. You must be
conquerors through him who hath loved you, if conquerors at all. Our
laurels must grow among his olives in Gethsemane.

EVENING:

"Lo, in the midst of the throne ... stood a Lamb as it had
been slain."
-- Revelation 5:6

Why should our exalted Lord appear in his wounds in glory? The wounds
of Jesus are his glories, his jewels, his sacred ornaments. To the eye
of the believer, Jesus is passing fair because he is "white and ruddy;"
white with innocence, and ruddy with his own blood. We see him as the
lily of matchless purity, and as the rose crimsoned with his own gore.
Christ is lovely upon Olivet and Tabor, and by the sea, but oh! there
never was such a matchless Christ as he that did hang upon the cross.
There we beheld all his beauties in perfection, all his attributes
developed, all his love drawn out, all his character expressed.
Beloved, the wounds of Jesus are far more fair in our eyes than all the
splendour and pomp of kings. The thorny crown is more than an imperial
diadem. It is true that he bears not now the sceptre of reed, but there
was a glory in it that never flashed from sceptre of gold. Jesus wears
the appearance of a slain Lamb as his court dress in which he wooed our
souls, and redeemed them by his complete atonement. Nor are these only
the ornaments of Christ: they are the trophies of his love and of his
victory. He has divided the spoil with the strong. He has redeemed for
himself a great multitude whom no man can number, and these scars are
the memorials of the fight. Ah! if Christ thus loves to retain the
thought of his sufferings for his people, how precious should his
wounds be to us!

"Behold how every wound of his
A precious balm distils,
Which heals the scars that sin had made,
And cures all mortal ills.
"Those wounds are mouths that preach his grace;
The ensigns of his love;
The seals of our expected bliss
In paradise above."

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Worship Of The Work"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 23, 2008

THE WORSHIP OF THE WORK

Labourers together with God.

1 Corinthians 3:9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1co+3:9&sr=1

Beware of any work for God which enables you to evade concentration
on Him. A great many Christian workers worship their work. The one
concern of a worker should be concentration on God, and this will
mean that all the other margins of life, mental, moral and spiritual,
are free with the freedom of a child, a worshipping child, not a
wayward child. A worker without this solemn dominant note of
concentration on God is apt to get his work on his neck; there is no
margin of body, mind or spirit free, consequently he becomes spent
out and crushed. There is no freedom, no delight in life; nerves,
mind and heart are so crushingly burdened that God's blessing cannot
rest. But the other side is just as true - when once the
concentration is on God, all the margins of life are free and under
the dominance of God alone. There is no responsibility on you for the
work; the only responsibility you have is to keep in living constant
touch with God, and to see that you allow nothing to hinder your
co-operation with Him. The freedom after sanctification is the
freedom of a child, the things that used to keep the life pinned down
are gone. But be careful to remember that you are freed for one thing
only - to be absolutely devoted to your co-Worker.

We have no right to judge where we should be put, or to have
preconceived notions as to what God is fitting us for. God engineers
everything; wherever He puts us our one great aim is to pour out a
whole-hearted devotion to Him in that particular work. "Whatsoever
thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Not Home

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Not Home
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28 NIV

In the presence of God, there is joy! I don't know about you, but joy sounds pretty good today!

You and I know that this world is not our home. We keep reminding ourselves of that fact as the bills come that we cannot pay; as the doctor says he cannot help; as the news comes at the loss of a loved one; when the marriage is falling apart. We know our future is bright, but right now, it is hard to see the forest for the trees.

We feel the burdens of life, and at times they seem unbearable. In the middle of a valley, as we fight just to stay alive, it is often difficult to picture the mountain tops.

In those times, when we need a Savior, praise God He is there! Our Redeemer lives! He stands ready to assist us in our time of need. He will not forsake us when the perilous days come, but will instead draw us closer to Him, and even carry us thr ough the darkness until within His perfect timing He chooses to quiten the storm.

Dear friend, fellow Christian, I urge you: Draw closer to the cross of Jesus. Get into the presence of our Holy God! It is there you will find rest. It is in Him you will receive joy in the journey of life. It is with the Lord that peace will overtake the trials and strength will come to the weary!

In your presence Lord we find our hope! It is here we want to stay!

THE BODY OF CHRIST

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+12:1-11

Dear Father, great, good and generous giver,

Thank you for making me part of the body of Christ, his church.
Thank you that there are no unimportant parts to the body. Thank
you that all of us are interconnected and interdependent.

We have a variety of gifts from you, but all have the same spirit.

We have varieties of service, but all have the same Lord, Jesus
Christ.

We have various ways of working, but it is you, O God, who
inspires all of it. Your spirit apportions your gifts as he wishes.

Thank you for every manifestation of your power and goodness. And
thank you for every graciousness shown to me personally.

In the name of Jesus, the head of the body, I pray. Amen.

Astonished Misunderstanding

Then Jesus got into the boat with the followers. And the wind
became calm. The followers were completely amazed. They still
didn't understand {his power}. It was like the miracle he did
with the bread. They still didn't understand what that meant.

-- Mark 6:51-52 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:

multitude out of such a small collection of bread and fish. Only God
could still a storm and bring the boat to immediate safety at the
intended destination. Jesus was God with them. Faith in him opened the
door to what is not humanly possible. Yet even with what they saw, they
found it hard to really believe in Jesus as the Son of God. He was
simply too good to be true!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O LORD God, my righteous Father, please help me overcome my pockets of
weak faith and my areas of lacking belief. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : John 4:23-24

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 23, 2008

VERSE:
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers
will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind
of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers
must worship in spirit and in truth.
-- John 4:23-24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=John+4:23-24

THOUGHT:
God seeks true worshipers. He seeks those who long to praise him
authentically and spirit to spirit. To help us in our quest, he
gives us his Spirit to help us worship (Philippians 3:3; Jude 20;
Romans 8:26-27). Most of all, he wants us to genuinely worship him
-- worship him according to his will and with all of our heart.

PRAYER:
Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for your Holy Spirit who is
interceding even now to perfect this prayer. My heart thrills at
the knowledge that you not only know me, but that you desire me to
come into your presence. Please accept my feeble words and hear the
emotion of my heart as I say "Thank you!" for all you have done for
me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
