=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Does the Dog Need To Be Petted, by Mike Barres

My wife is a dog lover. If I got hugged and kissed as much as her dog,
I'd be a lot happier. Just kidding, but isn't it interesting to see a
dog looking up at you with those big eyes, just begging to be petted?
When we pet the dog, which gets more out of it, us or the dog?

More and more nursing homes, treatment centers, hospitals, and therapy
programs use dogs. They find that it helps the patient to pet the dog.
They call it pet therapy. Folks appear to be happier, manage their
illness better, and some even get well faster who are in these pet
therapy programs.

Giving and receiving love is a basic need our Creator built into us.
Some psychologists say that we need several hugs a day. They say it
lowers our blood pressure. As Christians, we know that sharing love is
not an option, but a response to how we've been loved. The apostle John
reminded his flock:

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone
who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does
not know God, for God is love (1 John 4:7-8 NKJV).

God loves us so much that he sent his Son to die on the cross for us.
Remember one of the most famous statements in Scripture:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting
life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:16-17).

If we give love, we'll get love.

In the Bible they gave blessings to those in their family or to those
stepping into leadership. Part of that blessing involved laying hands
on someone. Today, parents can bless their children by giving them hugs
and pats on the back -- lay their hands of blessing on them. How
important is this? Jesus blessed children in this way!

Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them;
but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus
saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little
children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the
kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive
the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."
And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and
blessed them (Mark 10:13-16).

We all need love, and we must remember that we reap what we sow. If we
give love, we'll get love. If you think about it, if you know someone
who is really loving and giving, they are also loved by a lot of other
people. We all need hugs, hand shakes, and pats on the back; so let's
give these things, too. We will be blessed by sharing our blessing with
others.

So, does the dog need to be petted or do we need to pet the dog?

I think the answer is, "Yes!"

Morning & Evening -- Romans 7:13 and Isaiah 62:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

MORNING:

"Sin ... exceeding sinful."
-- Romans 7:13

Beware of light thoughts of sin. At the time of conversion, the
conscience is so tender, that we are afraid of the slightest sin. Young
converts have a holy timidity, a godly fear lest they should offend
against God. But alas! very soon the fine bloom upon these first ripe
fruits is removed by the rough handling of the surrounding world: the
sensitive plant of young piety turns into a willow in after life, too
pliant, too easily yielding. It is sadly true, that even a Christian
may grow by degrees so callous, that the sin which once startled him
does not alarm him in the least. By degrees men get familiar with sin.
The ear in which the cannon has been booming will not notice slight
sounds. At first a little sin startles us; but soon we say, "Is it not
a little one?" Then there comes another, larger, and then another,
until by degrees we begin to regard sin as but a little ill; and then
follows an unholy presumption: "We have not fallen into open sin. True,
we tripped a little, but we stood upright in the main. We may have
uttered one unholy word, but as for the most of our conversation, it
has been consistent." So we palliate sin; we throw a cloak over it; we
call it by dainty names. Christian, beware how thou thinkest lightly of
sin. Take heed lest thou fall by little and little. Sin, a little
thing? Is it not a poison? Who knows its deadliness? Sin, a little
thing? Do not the little foxes spoil the grapes? Doth not the tiny
coral insect build a rock which wrecks a navy? Do not little strokes
fell lofty oaks? Will not continual droppings wear away stones? Sin, a
little thing? It girded the Redeemer's head with thorns, and pierced
his heart! It made him suffer anguish, bitterness, and woe. Could you
weigh the least sin in the scales of eternity, you would fly from it as
from a serpent, and abhor the least appearance of evil. Look upon all
sin as that which crucified the Saviour, and you will see it to be
"exceeding sinful."

EVENING:

"Thou shalt be called, Sought out."
-- Isaiah 62:12

The surpassing grace of God is seen very clearly in that we were not
only sought, but sought out. Men seek for a thing which is lost upon
the floor of the house, but in such a case there is only seeking, not
seeking out. The loss is more perplexing and the search more
persevering when a thing is sought out. We were mingled with the mire:
we were as when some precious piece of gold falls into the sewer, and
men gather out and carefully inspect a mass of abominable filth, and
continue to stir and rake, and search among the heap until the treasure
is found. Or, to use another figure, we were lost in a labyrinth; we
wandered hither and thither, and when mercy came after us with the
gospel, it did not find us at the first coming, it had to search for us
and seek us out; for we as lost sheep were so desperately lost, and had
wandered into such a strange country, that it did not seem possible
that even the Good Shepherd should track our devious roamings. Glory be
to unconquerable grace, we were sought out! No gloom could hide us, no
filthiness could conceal us, we were found and brought home. Glory be
to infinite love, God the Holy Spirit restored us!

The lives of some of God's people, if they could be written would fill
us with holy astonishment. Strange and marvellous are the ways which
God used in their case to find his own. Blessed be his name, he never
relinquishes the search until the chosen are sought out effectually.
They are not a people sought to-day and cast away to-morrow.
Almightiness and wisdom combined will make no failures, they shall be
called, "Sought out!" That any should be sought out is matchless grace,
but that we should be sought out is grace beyond degree! We can find no
reason for it but God's own sovereign love, and can only lift up our
heart in wonder, and praise the Lord that this night we wear the name
of "Sought out."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Vision"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 11, 2008

VISION

I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision.

Acts 26:19

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+26:19&sr=1

If we lose the vision, we alone are responsible, and the way we lose
the vision is by spiritual leakage. If we do not run our belief about
God into practical issues, it is all up with the vision God has
given. The only way to be obedient to the heavenly vision is to give
our utmost for God's highest, and this can only be done by
continually and resolutely recalling the vision. The test is the
sixty seconds of every minute, and the sixty minutes of every hour,
not our times of prayer and devotional meetings.

"Though it tarry, wait for it." We cannot attain to a vision, we must
live in the inspiration of it until it accomplishes itself. We get so
practical that we forget the vision. At the beginning we saw it but
did not wait for it; we rushed off into practical work, and when the
vision was fulfilled, we did not see it. Waiting for the vision that
tarries is the test of our loyalty to God. It is at the peril of our
soul's welfare that we get caught up in practical work and miss the
fulfilment of the vision.

Watch God's cyclones. The only way God sows His saints is by His
whirlwind. Are you going to prove an empty pod? It will depend on
whether or not you are actually living in the light of what you have
seen. Let God fling you out, and do not go until He does. If you
select your own spot, you will prove an empty pod. If God sows you,
you will bring forth fruit.

It is essential to practise the walk of the feet in the light of the
vision.

Praying with Paul : "The Power of the Cross"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE POWER OF THE CROSS

1 Corinthians 1:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+1:17

Dear Father, author of all true wisdom,

Thank you that you do not send your emissaries out as mere
recruiters. They are not just to baptize but to preach the Good
News about Jesus, that he doesn't just want us to "join his club"
but he wants us to be like him, yes, to be him, to be his body, in
the world.

Thank you for not appealing to us with elegant ideas or eloquent
speech, lest the message of the cross be emptied of its power. For
while this word of the cross is utter folly to those who are
perishing, to us who are being saved by it, it is your power.

Grant me the courage and strength to trust you when worldly wisdom
sounds convincing.

In the name of the one who empowers me to live according to his
righteousness, I pray. Amen.

Limited Doses and Visual Hooks

Jesus used many stories like these to teach them. He taught
them all that they could understand.

-- Mark 4:33 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is an incredible teacher. In his earthly ministry, he used common
everyday images as hooks on which to hang eternal truth. The people
would see these images in their day-to-day lives and then would be
reminded of the eternal truth that Jesus hooked on the image. This was
crucial. They couldn't understand everything all at once. Until his
death and resurrection and without the work of the Holy Spirit, much of
what he said and meant was a mystery. Yet these images allowed him to
share messages "pregnant" with meaning. Later, as these disciples
learned more about his life and ministry and as the Holy Spirit begin
to work in each follower's life, they could see the visual image, take
Jesus' message off the visual hook, and more fully understand his
message. Teaching God's truth is an awesome and humbling
responsibility. Jesus is the great reminder that it is also a creative
responsibility. More than just communicating a message, we're
communicating God's will to people who need to understand, to obey, and
to be blessed by this message.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
God, my dear Abba Father, please help me to be more creative and
effective in my teaching of your will. I know that Jesus was a powerful
teacher in word and deed. I want my life to display what I teach so
others know that this message is not only true, but also livable. I
also want to help others understand the power, beauty, mystery, grace,
and holiness of your will. I know that I cannot do this on my own
efforts alone. So, dear Father, I commit to becoming a good steward of
the grace you have given me as a teacher. I will do my creative best.
However, Father, I ask that your Spirit take what is good and make it
much better and that your grace take what is bad and keep it from being
a hindrance to those eager to know your truth. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: God's Comfort Two

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
God's Comfort Two
Comforting Words By: Ron Edmondson
May Your unfailing love be my comfort, according to Your promise to Your servant. Psalm 119:76 NIV

I am going to go ahead and admit that some readers are not going to agree with this Mustard Seed. Many, even if they agree that its true, will not want it to be true. Believe me, I understand.

Here we go! I do not believe God has promised to take away all your pain while on this earth. He has not promised to heal every person who is sick, restore every marriage, or to reverse the consequences of sin. We like for Him to do these things, and many times He does, but it isnt because He has promised to do so.

Faith is trusting in who God says He is, even when we cant understand what He is doing. God doesnt claim in the Bible to be someone who keeps us from every trial. In fact, as I read Scriptures, I think there are many times when God allows those trials to come our way. Paul even goes so far as to say we should rejoice in our sufferings. Imagine th at?

God does promise, however, that His grace is sufficient for all our needs. He does promise to give us grace and mercy in our time of need. He does promise us that He is creating an eternal life for us where these light and momentary trials. He does promise that His love for us is forever; He will never leave us nor forsake us.

I believe the Psalmist knew these promises of God. He was finding comfort not in his circumstances, or his ability to interpret those circumstances. He was finding comfort in the promises of God.

Do you need to go back and refresh your memory about the promises of God? Could you use a fresh touch from the Comforter? Why not ask God to remind you of the promises He has given you in His Word?

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 3:11

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 11, 2008

VERSE:
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already
laid, which is Jesus Christ.
-- 1 Corinthians 3:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+3:11

THOUGHT:
There is only one foundation on which the Church and the
Christian life can be built. That foundation is Jesus Christ (cf. 1
Peter 2:4-7; Ephesians 2:20). He is the one whom God sent to save
us (John 3:16). He is the "way, the truth, and the life," the only
way to God (John 14:6). The Lord Jesus Christ is the name above all
names, the name at which every knee will bow (Philippians 2:5-11).
His is the only name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Let's
take time today to specifically honor Jesus as Lord with our
hearts, our words, and our actions.

PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, your name is above every other name that has ever
been named. Your glory extends back beyond creation and will endure
after the light from every sun has been extinguished. Your
sacrificial love that saved me is awesome and beyond compare.
Please receive my heartfelt adoration and praise. To you belong all
glory, majesty, power, and grace for what you have done to save me
and what you will one day do to bring me home to you! Amen.

Today's KJV Verse : 1 Corinthians 3:11

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 11, 2008

VERSE:
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is
Jesus Christ.
-- 1 Corinthians 3:11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+3:11&translation=kjv

Amen.
