God Forgiving as We Also Forgive (2)

God Forgiving as We Also Forgive (2)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matt. 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have
forgiven our debtors. (14) For if you forgive men their
offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you also; (15)
But if you do not forgive men their offenses, neither will
your Father forgive your offenses.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Part 2 of 2)
We have to ask God to forgive our debts as we have forgiven
our debtors. If a person is mean toward other brothers and
sisters and does not forget their offenses against him, he
cannot ask God to forgive his debts. A narrow-minded person,
who always pays attention to how others have offended, hurt,
or ill-treated him, cannot pray such a prayer before God. A
man must have a forgiving heart before he can boldly ask the
Father: "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our
debtors." Brothers and sisters, just as our offenses before
God must be forgiven, so we also must forgive the offenses of
others against us. We must first forgive the debts of others
before we can pray boldly to the Father: "Forgive us our
debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors."

Here we have to pay attention to one thing: The Bible tells
us not only about our relationship with the Father but also
about our relationship with one another as brothers and
sisters. If a brother only remembers his relationship with
God and forgets his relationship with other brothers and
sisters and presumes that there is nothing wrong between him
and God, he is deceiving himself. Brothers and sisters, never
overlook your relationship with the brothers and sisters. If
there is a barrier between you and another brother or sister,
you will immediately lose God's blessing. If you do not
forget their debt and if you keep on counting and
complaining, you are being grossly deceived if you think that
God has forgiven your debts. The Lord clearly teaches us to
pray: "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our
debtors." Brothers and sisters, we must thoroughly forgive
our debtors. Otherwise, it will affect our being forgiven
before God.

Today's Verse : Ephesians 4:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 3, 2009

VERSE:
[B]e made new in the attitude of your minds; ....
-- Ephesians 4:23
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+4:23

THOUGHT:
We cannot renew ourselves on our own. We can guard ourselves
from corrupting influences. We can offer ourselves to God and come
to better discern his will. Ultimately, however, God himself must
do the renewing, not just when we are saved, but daily. Only God's
grace can sustain, empower, and renew us. Let's offer ourselves to
him. Then, let's confidently ask for his grace to empower, perfect,
and renew us!

PRAYER:
Father, I come to you asking for your grace to make me new in
the way I look at things, especially how I view people. Please
cleanse my heart and make me new in my mind and my spirit. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: New Trust 5

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
New Trust 5
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. Psalm 13:5 NLT

I cannot tell you how many times God has rescued me. Of course, God rescued me from the clutches of sin and saved me for eternity, but God continues to rescue me. He saw my inadequacies in life and sent me a beautiful wife to help make me complete. Before I was born, He saw His plan for my life and planted me in a home with a godly heritage. He saw my desire to be a molder of young lives and He gave me two precious boys who depend on me daily to disciple them.

I could tell you of the mistakes I have made in life, many that would embarrass me for you to know, and then explain how God saved me from the consequences of my own actions. Gods mercy truly has been new every morning in my life.

If you were to ask me why I trust God, I would gladly point you to the Scriptures that teach about our need to trust in Him. I could share with you a doctrinal positio n of trust and how the Bible teaches trust as a foundational issue in our walk with God. I could even refer you to the writings of scholars and teachers of Gods Word who have expanded upon this issue of trust. Of course, I could ask you to continue to read this Mustard Seed series or any of the other 8 years of similar writings on the subject.

In the final analysis, however, the best reason I have for my trust in God is that He has proven faithful to meall through my life. His love has never failed me. His promises have never been broken. His ways, though hard to understand sometimes, have always been just and fair. God has been good to me. He has proven trustworthy in my life. Therefore, I have put my trust in Him! I am trying to trust Him more every day.

If you are having trouble trusting God at this time in your life, give God a chance. Surrender everything to Him. Allow God to consume your trust. Put your complete trust into the person of God, the God of the Bible, and witness for yourself the trustworthiness of God. Allow 2009 to be your year of a deeper, greater trust in God!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Holiday Hangover, by Sarah Stirman

Here it is just a few days after Christmas and I've done it again: I'm
suffering from yet another holiday hangover. Not the kind that comes
from indulging in too much alcohol, though the fit of my pants
indicates that overindulgence of something needs to be addressed. I
have the kind of holiday hangover you get from overspending,
overeating, over-scheduling, and overdoing.

Every year I start the season with a deep resolve and an optimistic
plan. I will budget for Christmas for several months so that my family
will not be eating lint-covered Christmas candy from the bottom of our
stockings as a meal by mid-January. I will deck the halls in manageable
stages so that I am not getting out the last of the decorations on
December 24 to put away on December 26. I will limit our family's
activities so that when it comes time to distribute the gifts on
Christmas morning we still recognize each other. Those are always the
plans. Then I wake up, it's December 26, and this Christmas season has
looked like all of the others.

It's the expense of Christmas that gets me every year. The postage for
the Christmas cards, the "one last" decoration we need, the "little
gifts" that add up and add up, even the food we consume this time of
year seems to total a staggering amount. Then my children are out of
school and expect to eat during the day. What's that about? I bought
them Christmas gifts, they expect me to feed them, as well? And
wouldn't it be a lovely Christmas outing for us to go to the movies
together as a family? Kids, I hope you learned something, because we
just spent your first year of college on a two hour movie and one tub
of popcorn. Even with gasoline prices dropping, a 1,000 mile trip isn't
cheap on the fuel tank!

I try not to resent the overwhelming total of this time of year. It is
completely within my power to change what my family spends and every
year I have grand intentions of doing just that. But I seem to simply
take the path of least resistance and most expense, and then gripe
about it.

So here it is the limbo-week between Christmas and New Year's -- time
to look back and look forward. I have a moment to slow down and
evaluate. Financial folks will tell you it's time to make an end of
year evaluation of your finances. Once I've found all the spare change
in the couch, I'm through with that exercise. It's also a good time to
take an overall life evaluation. Is what I'm living reflecting what I
say I believe?

My thoughts turn to the expense of the season. I look back and count
the outrageous cost of this holiday. I repent of my extravagance as I
think about the original cost of this holiday: "For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son ..." (John 3:16 NIV). I
sprinkle the financial blessings God has given me on various things
throughout this season, but God gave all He had for the season. He
allowed his only child to leave his heavenly home and come to this
flawed world. He did that so "... that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Amazing.

I look toward 2009 with a grateful heart. Thankful for another day,
possibly another year, to live a life of gratitude, possibly a life of
moderation, and share His blessings with the people He puts in my path.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I repent of my extravagance ...

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 4:2 and Isaiah 41:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 2, 2009

MORNING:

"Continue in prayer."
-- Colossians 4:2

It is interesting to remark how large a portion of Sacred Writ is
occupied with the subject of prayer, either in furnishing examples,
enforcing precepts, or pronouncing promises. We scarcely open the Bible
before we read, "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord;" and
just as we are about to close the volume, the "Amen" of an earnest
supplication meets our ear. Instances are plentiful. Here we find a
wrestling Jacob-there a Daniel who prayed three times a day-and a David
who with all his heart called upon his God. On the mountain we see
Elias; in the dungeon Paul and Silas. We have multitudes of commands,
and myriads of promises. What does this teach us, but the sacred
importance and necessity of prayer? We may be certain that whatever God
has made prominent in his Word, he intended to be conspicuous in our
lives. If he has said much about prayer, it is because he knows we have
much need of it. So deep are our necessities, that until we are in
heaven we must not cease to pray. Dost thou want nothing? Then, I fear
thou dost not know thy poverty. Hast thou no mercy to ask of God? Then,
may the Lord's mercy show thee thy misery! A prayerless soul is a
Christless soul. Prayer is the lisping of the believing infant, the
shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the dying saint falling
asleep in Jesus. It is the breath, the watchword, the comfort, the
strength, the honour of a Christian. If thou be a child of God, thou
wilt seek thy Father's face, and live in thy Father's love. Pray that
this year thou mayst be holy, humble, zealous, and patient; have closer
communion with Christ, and enter oftener into the banqueting-house of
his love. Pray that thou mayst be an example and a blessing unto
others, and that thou mayst live more to the glory of thy Master. The
motto for this year must be, "Continue in prayer."

EVENING:

"Let the people renew their strength."
-- Isaiah 41:1

All things on earth need to be renewed. No created thing continueth by
itself. "Thou renewest the face of the year," was the Psalmist's
utterance. Even the trees, which wear not themselves with care, nor
shorten their lives with labour, must drink of the rain of heaven and
suck from the hidden treasures of the soil. The cedars of Lebanon,
which God has planted, only live because day by day they are full of
sap fresh drawn from the earth. Neither can man's life be sustained
without renewal from God. As it is necessary to repair the waste of the
body by the frequent meal, so we must repair the waste of the soul by
feeding upon the Book of God, or by listening to the preached Word, or
by the soul-fattening table of the ordinances. How depressed are our
graces when means are neglected! What poor starvelings some saints are
who live without the diligent use of the Word of God and secret prayer!
If our piety can live without God it is not of divine creating; it is
but a dream; for if God had begotten it, it would wait upon him as the
flowers wait upon the dew. Without constant restoration we are not
ready for the perpetual assaults of hell, or the stern afflictions of
heaven, or even for the strifes within. When the whirlwind shall be
loosed, woe to the tree that hath not sucked up fresh sap, and grasped
the rock with many intertwisted roots. When tempests arise, woe to the
mariners that have not strengthened their mast, nor cast their anchor,
nor sought the haven. If we suffer the good to grow weaker, the evil
will surely gather strength and struggle desperately for the mastery
over us; and so, perhaps, a painful desolation, and a lamentable
disgrace may follow. Let us draw near to the footstool of divine mercy
in humble entreaty, and we shall realize the fulfilment of the promise,
"They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Will You Go Out Without Knowing?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 2, 2009

WILL YOU GO OUT WITHOUT KNOWING?

He went out, not knowing whither he went.

Hebrews 11:8
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+11:8&sr=1

Have you been "out" in this way? If so, there is no logical statement
possible when anyone asks you what you are doing. One of the
difficulties in Christian work is this question - "What do you expect
to do?" You do not know what you are going to do; the only thing you
know is that God knows what He is doing. Continually revise your
attitude towards God and see if it is a going out of everything,
trusting in God entirely. It is this attitude that keeps you in
perpetual wonder - you do not know what God is going to do next. Each
morning you wake it is to be a "going out," building in confidence on
God. "Take no thought for your life,...nor yet for your body" - take
no thought for the things for which you did take thought before you
"went out."

Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell
you. God does not tell you what He is going to do; He reveals to you
Who He is. Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you go
out in surrender to Him until you are not surprised an atom at
anything He does?

Suppose God is the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him
- what an impertinence worry is! Let the attitude of the life be a
continual "going out" in dependence upon God, and your life will have
an ineffable charm about it which is a satisfaction to Jesus. You
have to learn to go out of convictions, out of creeds, out of
experiences, until so far as your faith is concerned, there is
nothing between yourself and God.

Praying with Paul : "Good News for Every Nation"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

GOOD NEWS FOR EVERY NATION

Romans 1:1-4
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+1:1-4

Dear Father, who commissioned the Good News to all nations,

Thank you that through Christ we have received grace and been
commissioned to spread the Good News everywhere to bring about the
obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,
including our own.

Thank you that we here in our country are also called to belong to
Jesus Christ. May the grace and peace that comes from you, our
Father, and from Jesus be showered upon all of us who claim your
promises.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have
received grace, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- To All Nations -- 1:1-6a

To All Nations

This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a
descendant of King David and of Abraham: Abraham was the
father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the
father of Judah and his brothers. Judah was the father of
Perez and Zerah (their mother was Tamar). Perez was the
father of Hezron. Hezron was the father of Ram. Ram was the
father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon.
Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of
Boaz (his mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (his
mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the
father of King David.

-- 1:1-6a (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Matthew's Gospel, while in many ways the most Jewish of the Gospels,
emphasizes God's love and grace for all people. At the beginning of
Jesus' life on earth, he is welcomed by foreigners, Magi, who come from
many miles away to worship him. At the end of Jesus' life on earth, he
challenges his disciples to go tell every nation about him and his good
news, baptizing them and welcoming them into God's family. Even in the
genealogy of Jesus, Matthew prepares us for the fact that, by God's
grace, all people can be included in God's family. In the lineage of
great King David, and the Messiah Jesus, is a Gentile woman. Her name
is Ruth, and her story is a marvelous story of God's grace and the
faithful heart that finds its home in the God of Israel.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father God, LORD of all peoples, please use my study of the Gospel of
Matthew this year to awaken my heart to the needs of everyone to know
about Jesus. Please give me more understanding and make me less
judgmental of other cultures and races. Help me see your image in each
person I encounter and see each one's need to know you as Abba Father.
In the name of the Lord Jesus I ask this. Amen.
