Today's Verse : Isaiah 2:22

VERSE:
Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of
what account is he?
-- Isaiah 2:22

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+2:22

THOUGHT:
God will humble the arrogant. He has a day designated to do
this. But, until that day dawns, God's Kingdom people must live
knowing that even the apparently powerful but ungodly will be
brought to ruin. We shouldn't trust in human power; it can
evaporate like dew in the morning sunshine. Human power is limited
by death. When the breath of a tyrant is gone, so is his power.
Once the life of an evil person is over, all that is left is the
evil. Our trust must be in Yahweh Sabbaoth, the Lord God of
heaven's armies. Anything else is a dim, small, and distorted
reflection of the real thing.

PRAYER:
Abba Father, forgive me for those times that I have relied on my
own savvy, my own wits, and my own insight to life. Forgive me for
not trusting in your deliverance and for relying on underhanded
ways and improper partners. Please cleanse me and create in me a
pure heart and an unquenchable passion for you. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Gut Call Five

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Gut Call Five
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalms 90:12 NIV

One of the hardest parts of life is making the right decision at the right time, especially when given short notice on making the decision. It happens all the time. I consistently find myself seemingly trapped in a corner trying to make the right call; often feeling overwhelmed with the stress of leadership. The key to getting through times like this is not found in the moment, but before the moment ever arrives. Thats also the key to living life successfully.

Much of the outcome of life will be decided many decisions prior to its end. You dont retire successfully if you dont start planning until five years before. You dont get a great deal on a house usually if you pick the first one you see in the paper. And the same goes for life. You develop your instincts over time. Experience and wisdom is gained over the years.

Real wisdom, since it ultim ately comes from Wisdom Himself (God), must come from its Maker. Years of walking with God, learning to love Him more, growing in knowledge and a relationship with him is necessary in order to live your life out of the overflow of wisdom stored within you.

Bottom line: Educate your gut (heart) and youll be able to make wise decisions quickly.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

You Know You're Getting Older When ..., by Russ Lawson

Getting older, or maturing as we sometimes call it, seems to be a
constant source of worry to some folks. Yet, no matter how much they
worry, they can't stop it from happening. We can sometimes slow down
some of the effects of aging with diet, exercise, etc., but we can't
stop it.

Of course one of the things we as a people seem to fear most is losing
the power to think clearly or remember things. I got a real chuckle out
of the following little story.

Because my mother had a habit of losing her cell phone, I bought
her a clip for it so she could attach it directly to her belt. A
few days later, I walked into my mother's home and found her
standing in the middle of the living room, halfway dressed. That
didn't strike me as odd so much as the fact that she was holding
her pants to the side of her head and speaking into them. "Don't
look at me that way," she yelled. "The phone started ringing and I
couldn't figure out how to undo this stupid clip!" (Author unknown)

If you are laughing, then you probably are relating to the story.

At least I'm trying daily to do better for God!

All of us are getting older, our world fights against it, they refuse
to acknowledge it, but very few embrace the aging process. God's word,
however, communicates a different idea concerning getting older. Moses
spoke for God when he commanded, "Show your fear of God by standing up
in the presence of elderly people and showing respect for the aged. I
am the LORD" (Leviticus 19:32 NLT). We also find this in God's book of
wisdom sayings: "Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living
a godly life" (Proverbs 16:31).

I, like many, don't consider myself old yet, even though the State of
Ohio recently sent me a membership card to the "Golden Buckeye" club. I
do not, however, fear getting older, because I know it is part of life.
I pray that I can continue to age and keep my ability to think and
function, but even if I can't, I can look back and know I have tried to
serve my God to the best of my ability. After all, isn't that all he
asks of us?

You most likely have heard the saying, "I'm not getting older! I'm
getting better!" I don't know if I am succeeding with my efforts, but
at least I'm trying daily to do better for God. I pray daily for wisdom
concerning my service to and relationship with others. How about you?
As they say, the only alternative to getting older is death! I'm ready
to go when the time comes, but am willing to put it off as long as I
can to serve God here on this earth!

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but
will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be
exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live
is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body,
this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do
not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with
Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you
that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will
remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and
joy in the faith ... (Philippians 1:19-25 TNIV).

Morning & Evening -- Hebrews 13:5 and Acts 8:30

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 21, 2008

MORNING:

"He hath said."
-- Hebrews 13:5

If we can only grasp these words by faith, we have an all-conquering
weapon in our hand. What doubt will not be slain by this two-edged
sword? What fear is there which shall not fall smitten with a deadly
wound before this arrow from the bow of God's covenant? Will not the
distresses of life and the pangs of death; will not the corruptions
within, and the snares without; will not the trials from above, and the
temptations from beneath, all seem but light afflictions, when we can
hide ourselves beneath the bulwark of "He hath said"? Yes; whether for
delight in our quietude, or for strength in our conflict, "He hath
said" must be our daily resort. And this may teach us the extreme value
of searching the Scriptures. There may be a promise in the Word which
would exactly fit your case, but you may not know of it, and therefore
you miss its comfort. You are like prisoners in a dungeon, and there
may be one key in the bunch which would unlock the door, and you might
be free; but if you will not look for it, you may remain a prisoner
still, though liberty is so near at hand. There may be a potent
medicine in the great pharmacopoeia of Scripture, and you may yet
continue sick unless you will examine and search the Scriptures to
discover what "He hath said." Should you not, besides reading the
Bible, store your memories richly with the promises of God? You can
recollect the sayings of great men; you treasure up the verses of
renowned poets; ought you not to be profound in your knowledge of the
words of God, so that you may be able to quote them readily when you
would solve a difficulty, or overthrow a doubt? Since "He hath said" is
the source of all wisdom, and the fountain of all comfort, let it dwell
in you richly, as "A well of water, springing up unto everlasting
life." So shall you grow healthy, strong, and happy in the divine life.

EVENING:

"Understandest thou what thou readest?"
-- Acts 8:30

We should be abler teachers of others, and less liable to be carried
about by every wind of doctrine, if we sought to have a more
intelligent understanding of the Word of God. As the Holy Ghost, the
Author of the Scriptures is he who alone can enlighten us rightly to
understand them, we should constantly ask his teaching, and his
guidance into all truth. When the prophet Daniel would interpret
Nebuchadnezzar's dream, what did he do? He set himself to earnest
prayer that God would open up the vision. The apostle John, in his
vision at Patmos, saw a book sealed with seven seals which none was
found worthy to open, or so much as to look upon. The book was
afterwards opened by the Lion of the tribe of Judah, who had prevailed
to open it; but it is written first-"I wept much." The tears of John,
which were his liquid prayers, were, so far as he was concerned, the
sacred keys by which the folded book was opened. Therefore, if, for
your own and others' profiting, you desire to be "filled with the
knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,"
remember that prayer is your best means of study: like Daniel, you
shall understand the dream, and the interpretation thereof, when you
have sought unto God; and like John you shall see the seven seals of
precious truth unloosed, after you have wept much. Stones are not
broken, except by an earnest use of the hammer; and the stone-breaker
must go down on his knees. Use the hammer of diligence, and let the
knee of prayer be exercised, and there is not a stony doctrine in
revelation which is useful for you to understand, which will not fly
into shivers under the exercise of prayer and faith. You may force your
way through anything with the leverage of prayer. Thoughts and
reasonings are like the steel wedges which give a hold upon truth; but
prayer is the lever, the prise which forces open the iron chest of
sacred mystery, that we may get the treasure hidden within.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Have You Ever Been Carried Away For Him?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 21, 2008

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CARRIED AWAY FOR HIM?

She hath wrought a good work on Me.

Mark 14:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mr+14:6&sr=1

If human love does not carry a man beyond himself, it is not love. If
love is always discreet, always wise, always sensible and
calculating, never carried beyond itself, it is not love at all. It
may be affection, it may be warmth of feeling, but it has not the
true nature of love in it.

Have I ever been carried away to do something for God not because it
was my duty, nor because it was useful, nor because there was
anything in it at all beyond the fact that I love Him? Have I ever
realized that I can bring to God things which are of value to Him, or
am I mooning round the magnitude of His Redemption whilst there are
any number of things I might be doing? Not Divine, colossal things
which could be recorded as marvellous, but ordinary, simple human
things which will give evidence to God that I am abandoned to Him?
Have I ever produced in the heart of the Lord Jesus what Mary of
Bethany produced?

There are times when it seems as if God watches to see if we will
give Him the abandoned tokens of how genuinely we do love Him.
Abandon to God is of more value than personal holiness. Personal
holiness focuses the eye on our own whiteness; we are greatly
concerned about the way we walk and talk and look, fearful lest we
offend Him. Perfect love casts out all that when once we are
abandoned to God. We have to get rid of this notion - "Am I of any
use?" and make up our minds that we are not, and we may be near the
truth. It is never a question of being of use, but of being of value
to God Himself. When we are abandoned to God, He works through us all
the time.

Praying with Paul : "Living in Harmony"

LIVING IN HARMONY

Romans 12:16-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+12:16-21

Dear Father, God of the lowly,

Help me live in harmony with others - without haughtiness, without
conceit, willing to associate with the lowly.

Help me to repay no one evil for evil, but to take thought for
what is noble in the sight of all.

As far as it depends on me, let me live peaceably with everyone.

Let me seek no revenge for myself, but leave it to your wrath, O
God. Help me, Father, not to be overcome with evil, but to overcome
evil with good.

In the name and authority of Jesus I boldly come, asking these
things according to his will. Amen.

WJD! -- Our Crazy Brother -- Mark 3:20-21

Our Crazy Brother

Then Jesus went home. But again many people gathered there.
There were so many people that Jesus and his followers could
not eat. Jesus' family heard about all these things. They
went to get him because people said that Jesus was crazy.

-- Mark 3:20-21 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Sometimes those most difficult people for us to reach with the grace of
Jesus can be found in our own families. Fortunately we are not alone in
that challenge. The early Christians found themselves in difficult
family situations and so there are some very clear things taught about
how to handle these kinds of situations. Most comforting of all,
however, is the realization that Jesus spent much of his ministry being
misunderstood by his own family, many of whom would not believe in him
until after his death and resurrection. Let's not be discouraged;
instead, let's go to the Lord and ask him to lead us and show us how to
minister, serve, and respect those around us so that we can reach them
with God's grace.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Mighty Shepherd of your sheep, please give me the wisdom, patience, and
character I need to lead the unbelievers in my family to you. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
