=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Handicapped and His Glory, by Sarah Stirman

Over a recent Sunday lunch, the kids were discussing different events
from Sunday school and who got to be which character in different
skits. I tuned into the conversation just in time to hear one child
proclaim, "Lindy's so lucky: she got to be the crippled person and
Jesus!" The conversation quickly moved on to parts they have each
played, and I was left deep in thought over that statement.

Initially, it struck me as funny simply because I know that few
"crippled people" would consider anyone who got to take their place as
lucky. While technology and medicine make life more convenient for the
handicapped every day, that is still an enormous life obstacle. Then if
you think back to the time that Christ was on earth -- and people
routinely used such terminology as "the crippled person" -- the
handicapped were truly considered the outcast and useless of society.
No, I don't imagine anyone who gets to be the crippled person would be
considered lucky.

Then I began thinking of being Jesus. Now there's an impossible
standard. I realize, however, that I am called to be precisely that. I
am the hands and feet and aroma of Jesus to the world we live in. Yes,
those are some mighty big shoes to fill, especially when I consider
myself to identify far more closely with the "crippled person" than
with Jesus. I find myself handicapped in God's kingdom on a regular
basis. I am crippled, and paralyzed by doubt and fear. I am blind to
the faithfulness and majesty of my God. I am deaf to His calling in my
life. Yes, in His kingdom, I see myself as the "crippled person."

Gloriously, our Father specializes in putting handicaps -- physical,
social, and otherwise -- to use for His glory and gain! The Gospel of
John introduces us to a woman shunned by society for not living
according to the moral standards of those around her (John 4). Jesus
used her, the woman at the well, to bring his good news to her entire
region (John 4:39-41). A little later in the gospel, John tells of a
blind man that Jesus said was born blind "that the work of God might be
displayed in his life" (John 9:2 NIV). He was given sight and through
his sight illustrated the blindness of the Pharisees (John 9:39-41).
These are only two of many occurrences throughout Jesus' life on earth
that show that "the least of these" are sometimes the best messengers
of His word and glory.

Paul learned that God's glory shines the brightest through handicaps
and weaknesses:

[The Lord] said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my
power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the
more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on
me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in
insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I
am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

Yes, indeed, I am so lucky, or really blessed, as I like to say. I get
to be the handicapped person so that Jesus can be seen in me.

God's glory shines the brightest through handicaps and weaknesses.

Morning & Evening -- Song of Solomon 1:4 and 1 Thessalonians 2:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, August 7, 2008

MORNING:

"The upright love thee"
-- Song of Solomon 1:4

Believers love Jesus with a deeper affection then they dare to give to
any other being. They would sooner lose father and mother then part
with Christ. They hold all earthly comforts with a loose hand, but they
carry him fast locked in their bosoms. They voluntarily deny themselves
for his sake, but they are not to be driven to deny him. It is scant
love which the fire of persecution can dry up; the true believer's love
is a deeper stream than this. Men have laboured to divide the faithful
from their Master, but their attempts have been fruitless in every age.
Neither crowns of honour, now frowns of anger, have untied this more
than Gordian knot. This is no every-day attachment which the world's
power may at length dissolve. Neither man nor devil have found a key
which opens this lock. Never has the craft of Satan been more at fault
than when he has exercised it in seeking to rend in sunder this union
of two divinely welded hearts. It is written, and nothing can blot out
the sentence, "The upright love thee." The intensity of the love of the
upright, however, is not so much to be judged by what it appears as by
what the upright long for. It is our daily lament that we cannot love
enough. Would that our hearts were capable of holding more, and
reaching further. Like Samuel Rutherford, we sigh and cry, "Oh, for as
much love as would go round about the earth, and over heaven-yea, the
heaven of heavens, and ten thousand worlds-that I might let all out
upon fair, fair, only fair Christ." Alas! our longest reach is but a
span of love, and our affection is but as a drop of a bucket compared
with his deserts. Measure our love by our intentions, and it is high
indeed; 'tis thus, we trust, our Lord doth judge of it. Oh, that we
could give all the love in all hearts in one great mass, a gathering
together of all loves to him who is altogether lovely!

EVENING:

"Satan hindered us."
-- 1 Thessalonians 2:18

Since the first hour in which goodness came into conflict with evil, it
has never ceased to be true in spiritual experience, that Satan hinders
us. From all points of the compass, all along the line of battle, in
the vanguard and in the rear, at the dawn of day and in the midnight
hour, Satan hinders us. If we toil in the field, he seeks to break the
ploughshare; if we build the wall, he labours to cast down the stones;
if we would serve God in suffering or in conflict-everywhere Satan
hinders us. He hinders us when we are first coming to Jesus Christ.
Fierce conflicts we had with Satan when we first looked to the cross
and lived. Now that we are saved, he endeavours to hinder the
completeness of our personal character. You may be congratulating
yourself, "I have hitherto walked consistently; no man can challenge my
integrity." Beware of boasting, for your virtue will yet be tried;
Satan will direct his engines against that very virtue for which you
are the most famous. If you have been hitherto a firm believer, your
faith will ere long be attacked; if you have been meek as Moses, expect
to be tempted to speak unadvisedly with your lips. The birds will peck
at your ripest fruit, and the wild boar will dash his tusks at your
choicest vines. Satan is sure to hinder us when we are earnest in
prayer. He checks our importunity, and weakens our faith in order that,
if possible, we may miss the blessing. Nor is Satan less vigilant in
obstructing Christian effort. There was never a revival of religion
without a revival of his opposition. As soon as Ezra and Nehemiah begin
to labour, Sanballat and Tobiah are stirred up to hinder them. What
then? We are not alarmed because Satan hindereth us, for it is a proof
that we are on the Lord's side, and are doing the Lord's work, and in
his strength we shall win the victory, and triumph over our adversary.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Prayer In The Father's House"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 7, 2008

PRAYER IN THE FATHER'S HOUSE

Wist ye not that I must be in My Father's house?"

Luke 2:49
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=lu+2:49&sr=1

Our Lord's childhood was not immature man-hood; our Lord's childhood
is an eternal fact. Am I a holy innocent child of God by
identification with my Lord and Saviour? Do I look upon life as being
in my Father's house? Is the Son of God living in His Father's house
in me?

The abiding Reality is God, and His order comes through the moments.
Am I always in contact with Reality, or do I only pray when things
have gone wrong, when there is a disturbance in the moments of my
life? I have to learn to identify myself with my Lord in holy
communion in ways some of us have not begun to learn as yet. "I must
be about My Father's business" - live the moments in My Father's
house.

Narrow it down to your individual circumstances - are you so
identified with the Lord's life that you are simply a child of God,
continually talking to Him and realizing that all things come from
His hands? Is the Eternal Child in you living in the Father's house?
Are the graces of His ministering life working out through you in
your home, in your business, in your domestic circle? Have you been
wondering why you are going through the things you are? It is not
that you have to go through them, it is because of the relation into
which the Son of God has come in His Father's providence in your
particular sainthood. Let Him have His way, keep in perfect union
with Him.

The vicarious life of your Lord is to become your vital simple life;
the way He worked and lived among men must be the way He lives in
you.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: John-Like, 4

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
John-Like, 4
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me." Matthew 11:6 NIV

Jesus says we are blessed if we dont all away on account of Him. Thats what He told John the Baptist when John was questioning where Jesus was while John was in prison. I think Jesus was encouraging John to stay strong in his faith. I think Jesus encourages you and me to do the same.

The Christian life is hard. Jesus warned us that people would hate us, because they hated Him. There are more than ample opportunities to denounce our faith. Its tough to stand for the moral, godly ways when morals in society are getting looser by the day. Let's be honest, sometimes it is tough to stay faithful to Christ when it seems the world who isn't faithful is having more "fun"; and getting more "stuff".

But, Jesus said blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me I dont know what kind of reward John the Baptist had in store for him in Heaven, but it must have been s pecial. When I look at a sunset, I realize there is a God who doesnt do things half way. He is a perfectionist! Surely Johns reward was (and is) worthy of the suffering he endured. I cant imagine God doing any less for John than absolute splendor and glory.

Whatever you are going through, no matter how hard it is, regardless of what you see as the potential fallout on earth, stay faithful to Christ! Keep your eyes on Jesus! You will be blessed. I dont have all the answers as to when or how, but I can assure you, because Jesus, who is Truth, promised that blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me!

Jesus keeps His promises!

Praying with Paul : "A Prayer for All"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

A PRAYER FOR ALL

1 Timothy 2:1-7
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Timothy+2:1-7

Dear Father, king of nations and peoples,

This is for all people everywhere - We plead for all people
because they all need you. We pray for all people because many
never talk to you. We intercede for all people because most do not
know what to ask. We give thanks for all people for few express
gratitude. We thank you for their lives, and we give thanks to you
for all that you give them, even though they do not acknowledge you
or give thanks to you.

We pray for national, regional, and local leaders and all who are
in high positions. May they exercise wisdom and justice so that we
who follow you may live quiet and peaceable lives, godly and
respectful in every way.

We know that such prayer is good and acceptable in your sight,
because we know that you want everyone to be saved and to come to
the knowledge of the truth.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the one Mediator between God and man,
who gave his life for us, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Embracing the Future -- Mark 11:1-3

Embracing the Future

Jesus and his followers were coming closer to Jerusalem. They
came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of
Olives. There Jesus sent two of his followers to do
something. Jesus said to the followers, "Go to the town you
can see there. When you enter it, you will find a young
donkey tied there. No person has ever ridden this donkey.
Untie the donkey and bring it here to me. If any person asks
you why you are taking the donkey, tell that person, 'The
Master needs this donkey. He will send it back soon.'"

-- Mark 11:1-3 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus knows the flow of events that will follow. He knows what awaits
him in Jerusalem: reception, rejection, and resurrection. He goes to
face this future trusting that his father is in control. He has warned
his followers at least three specific times that he will go to
Jerusalem and be rejected and crucified. Now, he sets the plan in
motion. He sends his followers to get the colt that begins his journey
of sacrifice and salvation. He embraces that future knowing the cost.
Along the way, he will have opportunities to turn away from that future
-- he can not ride into Jerusalem on the donkey's colt, he can avoid
confrontations with the powers that be in Jerusalem, he can opt out of
the sacrifice in the Garden of Gethsemane, he can call down angels to
save him, he can refuse to go to the Cross, and he can come down from
the Cross to prove his identity. Yet in each case and at every
crossroad of decision, Jesus embraces the will of God, accepts his role
as sacrificial Son, and fulfills the prophets' words. The Cross will be
no accident. His sacrifice will not be something forced upon him. His
rejection and humiliation will not be some awful surprise over which he
has no control. Jesus has come to "serve and give his life as a ransom"
for sinners ... even the very sinners who will mock, abuse, and murder
him. This is the future Jesus embraces as he sends his followers for
the colt. He has need of this colt to begin this final part of the
journey that will ultimately take him to the Cross and bring his grace
to us.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, I am overwhelmed with the love that Jesus has for me. I know
that as he sends for the donkey's colt, he knows the journey to the
Cross has begun in earnest. He knows he will pay for my sins with his
life, his dignity, his agony, and his blood. All I can do is bow in
humble appreciation, adoration, and awe. As the old hymn reminds me,
"Love so amazing, so divine, demands my life, my soul, my all." These I
offer to you with all my heart. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : John 8:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 7, 2008

VERSE:
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said
to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to
throw a stone at her [the woman caught in adultery]."
-- John 8:7
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=John+8:7

THOUGHT:
When we find it easy to identify the sin of others, God wants us
to be reminded of how important it is for us to take a rigorously
honest inventory of our own faithfulness. He wants us to deal with
our own sin before we evaluate anyone else.

PRAYER:
Forgive me, Father God, for my sins. Forgive me, especially
Father, for the sin of a critical and judgmental spirit. Deliver me
from such hurtful and evil habits, forgive me of my sins, and
please bless me with faithfulness. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
