Today's Verse : Ezekiel 36:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 19, 2009

VERSE:
I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been
profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them.
Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the
Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their
eyes.
-- Ezekiel 36:23
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ezekiel+36:23

THOUGHT:
God can and will use us even though we are not worthy vessels
for him to use. Scripture gives us many examples of people God used
when they did not measure up to his moral and holy requirements --
for example, think a little about Samson or most of the other
Judges! God will be revealed as the holy, mighty, and awesome God
that he is. So let's not be unwilling tools in his hands. Instead,
let's offer ourselves to him for his service and his glory.

PRAYER:
Holy Father, make me pure and holy, not just by your grace, but
also in my actions, words, and thoughts. Create a clean heart in me
and renew a righteous spirit in me by the power of your Holy
Spirit. May my life be a holy sacrifice of praise to you. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Never Drink Again

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Never Drink Again
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
This is what your Sovereign Lord says, your God, who defends His people: See, I have taken out of our hand the cup that made you stagger; from that cup, the goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again. Isaiah 51:22 NIV

Did you know you had a cup? Yes, that's right, you did, and it made you stagger! Did you know that, too?

You see, before you became a child of God (you have accepted Jesus, haven't you? I hope so!), you were forever cursed with a cup of God's wrath.

You had been accused, tried, convicted and sentenced to eternal damnation because of your life of sin. You were born in that sin state, and its punishment was eternal separation from your Creator God. It is true. You were doomed! Desperate! Hopeless! Your cup was filled to the brim with disaster.

But then Jesus came into your life! You personally received Him as your Lord and Savior. You knew at that moment He was the only way for sinful you to get to Holy God. Yo u accepted His perfect love and the sacrifice He made for you on the Cross! You were born again! Hallelujah! Praise God! You have been redeemed! This cup has now passed from you!

And guess what! You arent getting it back. Jesus took that cup and nailed it to the cross. (And He used some really special nails that can't be pulled out!)

The cup of God's wrath left you forever when you received Jesus!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Wrong Names, by Steve Ridgell

It had been one of those frantic, exhausting days and now even the dog
would not mind. It led to one of those "what did she just say" moments:
in my wife's efforts to get our dog to heel, she called him by our
son's name. It confused both our son and our dog. She knew the
difference between the two of them, but she had just finished dealing
with our son about minding her better and that encounter was still on
her mind when she called the dog. So she said the name that was most
prominent in her subconscious mind. Psychologists call that a Freudian
slip.

Movies and television shows have long made this a staple of their
programming. The show typically has a spouse call their mate by an ex's
name. The rest of the program is an exercise in determining who the
character truly loves. Of course, it almost always is the name they
spoke aloud. Their mouth just expressed what the heart believed.

This great programming concept is based on something Jesus said: "Out
of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks." Television writers may
or may not know where that wisdom comes from, but there it is.

Television programming, psychological theory, folk lore, literature,
art, and many other things in our culture reflect the words of God. He
is the source of all wisdom. But of course, if he created us ... he
should know how we function best.

So what name do you want spoken from your heart?

So think about where to find the real key to life. God offers hope,
peace, joy, and purpose. He provides a way for you to come to him
through his son Jesus. But he wants your heart. All of it. And when you
give it to him, his will be the name you speak for the rest of
eternity.

Morning & Evening -- Job 10:2 and Luke 15:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

MORNING:

"Shew me wherefore thou contendest with me."
-- Job 10:2

Perhaps, O tried soul, the Lord is doing this to develop thy graces.
There are some of thy graces which would never be discovered if it were
not for thy trials. Dost thou not know that thy faith never looks so
grand in summer weather as it does in winter? Love is too often like a
glow-worm, showing but little light except it be in the midst of
surrounding darkness. Hope itself is like a star-not to be seen in the
sunshine of prosperity, and only to be discovered in the night of
adversity. Afflictions are often the black foils in which God doth set
the jewels of his children's graces, to make them shine the better. It
was but a little while ago that on thy knees thou wast saying, "Lord, I
fear I have no faith: let me know that I have faith." Was not this
really, though perhaps unconsciously, praying for trials?-for how canst
thou know that thou hast faith until thy faith is exercised? Depend
upon it, God often sends us trials that our graces may be discovered,
and that we may be certified of their existence. Besides, it is not
merely discovery, real growth in grace is the result of sanctified
trials. God often takes away our comforts and our privileges in order
to make us better Christians. He trains his soldiers, not in tents of
ease and luxury, but by turning them out and using them to forced
marches and hard service. He makes them ford through streams, and swim
through rivers, and climb mountains, and walk many a long mile with
heavy knapsacks of sorrow on their backs. Well, Christian, may not this
account for the troubles through which thou art passing? Is not the
Lord bringing out your graces, and making them grow? Is not this the
reason why he is contending with you?

"Trials make the promise sweet;
Trials give new life to prayer;
Trials bring me to his feet,
Lay me low, and keep me there."

EVENING:

"Father, I have sinned."
-- Luke 15:18

It is quite certain that those whom Christ has washed in his precious
blood need not make a confession of sin, as culprits or criminals,
before God the Judge, for Christ has for ever taken away all their sins
in a legal sense, so that they no longer stand where they can be
condemned, but are once for all accepted in the Beloved; but having
become children, and offending as children, ought they not every day to
go before their heavenly Father and confess their sin, and acknowledge
their iniquity in that character? Nature teaches that it is the duty of
erring children to make a confession to their earthly father, and the
grace of God in the heart teaches us that we, as Christians, owe the
same duty to our heavenly Father. We daily offend, and ought not to
rest without daily pardon. For, supposing that my trespasses against my
Father are not at once taken to him to be washed away by the cleansing
power of the Lord Jesus, what will be the consequence? If I have not
sought forgiveness and been washed from these offences against my
Father, I shall feel at a distance from him; I shall doubt his love to
me; I shall tremble at him; I shall be afraid to pray to him: I shall
grow like the prodigal, who, although still a child, was yet far off
from his father. But if, with a child's sorrow at offending so gracious
and loving a Parent, I go to him and tell him all, and rest not till I
realize that I am forgiven, then I shall feel a holy love to my Father,
and shall go through my Christian career, not only as saved, but as one
enjoying present peace in God through Jesus Christ my Lord. There is a
wide distinction between confessing sin as a culprit, and confessing
sin as a child. The Father's bosom is the place for penitent
confessions. We have been cleansed once for all, but our feet still
need to be washed from the defilement of our daily walk as children of
God.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Initiative Against Despair"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 18, 2009

THE INITIATIVE AGAINST DESPAIR

Rise, let us be going.

Matthew 26:46
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+26:46&sr=1

The disciples went to sleep when they should have kept awake, and
when they realized what they had done it produced despair. The sense
of the irreparable is apt to make us despair, and we say - "It is all
up now, it is no use trying any more." If we imagine that this kind
of despair is exceptional, we are mistaken, it is a very ordinary
human experience. Whenever we realize that we have not done that
which we had a magnificent opportunity of doing, then we are apt to
sink into despair; and Jesus Christ comes and says - "Sleep on now,
that opportunity is lost for ever, you cannot alter it, but arise and
go to the next thing." Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the
bosom of Christ, and go out into the irresistible future with Him.

There are experiences like this in each of our lives. We are in
despair, the despair that comes from actualities, and we cannot lift
ourselves out of it. The disciples in this instance had done a
downright unforgivable thing; they had gone to sleep instead of
watching with Jesus, but He came with a spiritual initiative against
their despair and said - "Arise and do the next thing." If we are
inspired of God, what is the next thing? To trust Him absolutely and
to pray on the ground of His Redemption.

Never let the sense of failure corrupt your new action.

NEED FOR INTERDEPENDENCE

Romans 12:3-8
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+12:3-8

Dear Father, who wills our interdependence,

Help me not to think more highly of myself than I ought to think,
but to think with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith
which you have assigned me.

I know that I am but one member in the body of Christ, and while
important, no more important than any other.

For as in one body, we have many members, and all members do not
have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ,
and individually members of each other.

Help me to understand and practice the interdependence necessary
for the healthy functioning of the body of Christ. May each member
be in sympathetic union with all others.

In the name of Jesus, who shares all spiritual blessings with us,
we ask for a growing love among all your people. Amen.

Permanent?

"I tell you the truth. Nothing will disappear from the law
until heaven and earth are gone. The law will not lose even
the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter until
all has happened."

-- Matthew 5:18 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
The intent of Jesus' teaching is to shift the focus away from a strict,
appearance of adherence of the Law, and rivet our attention on the
heart of the Lawgiver. The validity of the Law's truth is enduring down
to the last detail. But that truth is found in Jesus, one who lived in
perfect obedience and righteousness before God. As the verses that
follow indicate, Jesus does not lessen the intent of the Law, but gives
it flesh and blood, compassion and mercy, power and depth. His words
will never pass away! Grace is not about diminished expectations, but
about power, motivation, and salvation. But salvation is more than
salvation from past sin or even salvation to heaven at the end of time.
Salvation is about being protected from the ravages of sin's
punishments and consequences because Jesus' mercy and grace have
motivated and empowered us to obey God's will and so fulfill the intent
behind every letter of the Law.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty and glorious God, who lives in inapproachable light, I praise
you for your glory and grace. I pledge to you, dear Father, that I will
not take that grace for granted or trample on its gift. At the same
time, I ask you to empower and lead me with your Holy Spirit to do your
will and honor your grace with a life that is holy, and wholly, yours.
Through the name of the Lord I pray. Amen.
