Grace – The Divine Life Expressed in Our Living (1)

Grace – The Divine Life Expressed in Our Living (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 2:19 For this is grace, if anyone, because of a
consciousness of God, bears sorrows by suffering unjustly.
20 For what glory is it if, while sinning and being
buffeted, you endure? But if, while doing good and suffering,
you endure, this is grace with God.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here Peter is saying that if, due to our conscience toward
God, we are willing to bear sorrows and suffer unjustly, that
is, suffer unjust treatment, this is grace. The Greek word
rendered "grace" in verse 19 is charis, referring here to the
motivation of the divine life within us and its expression in
our life, becoming in our behavior gracious and acceptable in
the eyes of both man and God (v. 20).

As we have pointed out a number of times, grace is actually
the Triune God becoming our life for our 174 experience and
enjoyment. With this understanding of grace as our basis, we
can say that here grace is the motivation of the divine life
within us and its expression in our living. Therefore, this
becomes in our behavior something gracious and acceptable in
the sight of both God and man.

The words "conscience toward God" also mean consciousness of
God. This is the consciousness of our relation to God. It
indicates that a believer is living in an intimate fellowship
with God, that he has and keeps a conscience toward God that
is both good and pure (3:16; 1 Tim. 1:5, 19; 3:9; 2 Tim.
1:3).

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Flying Solo, by Wesley Shutt

Last Christmas my wife and I were given a kite. It's one of those
really large ones that requires two handles and gives you a pretty good
work out. You might have seen them flown on the beach before. Where we
live there is always plenty of wind so a kite was a great present.

It's nearly impossible to fly this kind of kite alone. Without having
someone to help you set it up, get it started, and put it away, it's
more than you bargained for. I learned this the hard way.

I set out to fly our new kite on my own one windy Saturday morning. I
pulled it out of the bag that we store it in and began to unwind the
spools of thin rope. It didn't take long for me to realize that this
was going to be very challenging. The wind was whipping the kite around
even before I could finish setting up.

So I decided to stand it up against a large light post until I could
get the rope taut and the kite ready for flight. Before I knew it, the
kite was tangled around the light post and my plan was falling apart.
As I began to untangle the rope the wind picked up even more violently
and the tangled knots began to tighten. It was then that I realized
that doing this alone was incredibly foolish. I wished I had been wise
enough to bring someone with me. The situation was becoming more and
more hopeless.

There is someone who will never leave us

I've tried flying solo in my spiritual life as well. It turned out to
be an even more foolish endeavor than my kite flying experience. God
has given each of us two very special gifts, Jesus and his church, so
that we never have to be alone. It is good for us to be part of a
community of fellow believers that are striving to follow his son,
Jesus.

It's easy to think that we are strong enough, courageous enough, or
smart enough to fly solo through this life. If that's our plan, sooner
or later, our lives will become a tangled mess. There is someone who
will never leave us alone even in the most difficult moments. Jesus
told his followers that even until the end of this life he would never
leave them. His promise is also for you and me.

Eventually I was able to untangle the kite. Likewise, in my spiritual
life, when I began to take hold of the gifts of Jesus and his church,
the spiritual knots began to untangle.

If I can help you to trust more in Jesus' commitment or if I can help
get you connected to a church family near you . . . I want to. Write me

look forward to hearing from you.

Morning & Evening -- Obadiah 1:11 and 1 John 1:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

MORNING:

"Even thou wast as one of them."
-- Obadiah 1:11

Brotherly kindness was due from Edom to Israel in the time of need, but
instead thereof, the men of Esau made common cause with Israel's foes.
Special stress in the sentence before us is laid upon the word thou; as
when Caesar cried to Brutus, "and thou Brutus"; a bad action may be all
the worse, because of the person who has committed it. When we sin, who
are the chosen favourites of heaven, we sin with an emphasis; ours is a
crying offence, because we are so peculiarly indulged. If an angel
should lay his hand upon us when we are doing evil, he need not use any
other rebuke than the question, "What thou? What dost thou here?" Much
forgiven, much delivered, much instructed, much enriched, much blessed,
shall we dare to put forth our hand unto evil? God forbid!

A few minutes of confession may be beneficial to thee, gentle reader,
this morning. Hast thou never been as the wicked? At an evening party
certain men laughed at uncleanness, and the joke was not altogether
offensive to thine ear, even thou wast as one of them. When hard things
were spoken concerning the ways of God, thou wast bashfully silent; and
so, to on-lookers, thou wast as one of them. When worldlings were
bartering in the market, and driving hard bargains, wast thou not as
one of them? When they were pursuing vanity with a hunter's foot, wert
thou not as greedy for gain as they were? Could any difference be
discerned between thee and them? Is there any difference? Here we come
to close quarters. Be honest with thine own soul, and make sure that
thou art a new creature in Christ Jesus; but when this is sure, walk
jealously, lest any should again be able to say, "Even thou wast as one
of them." Thou wouldst not desire to share their eternal doom, why then
be like them here? Come not thou into their secret, lest thou come into
their ruin. Side with the afflicted people of God, and not with the
world.

EVENING:

"The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
-- 1 John 1:7

"Cleanseth," says the text-not "shall cleanse." There are multitudes
who think that as a dying hope they may look forward to pardon. Oh! how
infinitely better to have cleansing now than to depend on the bare
possibility of forgiveness when I come to die. Some imagine that a
sense of pardon is an attainment only obtainable after many years of
Christian experience. But forgiveness of sin is a present thing-a
privilege for this day, a joy for this very hour. The moment a sinner
trusts Jesus he is fully forgiven. The text, being written in the
present tense, also indicates continuance; it was "cleanseth"
yesterday, it is "cleanseth" to-day, it will be "cleanseth" tomorrow:
it will be always so with you, Christian, until you cross the river;
every hour you may come to this fountain, for it cleanseth still.
Notice, likewise, the completeness of the cleansing, "The blood of
Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin"-not only from sin, but
"from all sin." Reader, I cannot tell you the exceeding sweetness of
this word, but I pray God the Holy Ghost to give you a taste of it.
Manifold are our sins against God. Whether the bill be little or great,
the same receipt can discharge one as the other. The blood of Jesus
Christ is as blessed and divine a payment for the transgressions of
blaspheming Peter as for the shortcomings of loving John; our iniquity
is gone, all gone at once, and all gone for ever. Blessed completeness!
What a sweet theme to dwell upon as one gives himself to sleep.

"Sins against a holy God;
Sins against his righteous laws;
Sins against his love, his blood;
Sins against his name and cause;
Sins immense as is the sea-
From them all he cleanseth me."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Sanctification"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 23, 2008

SANCTIFICATION

Of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto
us ... sanctification.

1 Corinthians 1:30
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1co+1:30&sr=1

The Life Side. The mystery of sanctification is that the perfections
of Jesus Christ are imparted to me, not gradually, but instantly when
by faith I enter into the realization that Jesus Christ is made unto
me sanctification. Sanctification does not mean anything less than
the holiness of Jesus being made mine manifestly.

The one marvellous secret of a holy life lies not in imitating Jesus,
but in letting the perfections of Jesus manifest themselves in my
mortal flesh. Sanctification is "Christ in you." It is His wonderful
life that is imparted to me in sanctification, and imparted by faith
as a sovereign gift of God's grace. Am I willing for God to make
sanctification as real in me as it is in His word?

Sanctification means the impartation of the Holy qualities of Jesus
Christ. It is His patience, His love, His holiness, His faith, His
purity, His godliness, that is manifested in and through every
sanctified soul. Sanctification is not drawing from Jesus the power
to be holy; it is drawing from Jesus the holiness that was manifested
in Him, and He manifests it in me. Sanctification is an impartation,
not an imitation. Imitation is on a different line. In Jesus Christ
is the perfection of everything, and the mystery of sanctification is
that all the perfections of Jesus are at my disposal, and slowly and
surely I begin to live a life of ineffable order and sanity and
holiness: "Kept by the power of God."

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

It hadn't rained. Prior to the flood of Noah's day, the earth had never experienced rain. I have heard that all my life and I fully believe it. Noah was building an ark, and a big one I might add, to protect his family and the animals from something none of them had ever seen.

It took Noah over 100 years to complete the project. He had to build a boat larger than seemed humanly possible at the time. He built it to the exact specifications God had given him, fully expecting two of every living creature to actually come to him to be saved by the ark. Can you imagine the looks on people's faces when the two by twos started to arrive? I'm quite sure that due to the unrighteousness of the day, Noah had to endure countless days of scorn and ridicul e by his neighbors and friends. Yet, the Bible says, "Noah did just as the Lord commanded him." (Gen. 6:22)

Do you want to understand faith? Look at the life of Noah. He didn't consider his own personal agenda. He didn't look for the seen, but for the unseen. He trusted not in the things of this world, but the things which are permanent. He fully trusted God to deliver him from all his trials, and to reward him for all his labor. He made God's desires his own.

Simply put, if you want a faith that pleases God as Noah had, then follow the example Noah set. Do just as the Lord has commanded!

That is faith.

Praying with Paul : "Caught Up and Comforted"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

CAUGHT UP AND COMFORTED

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Thessalonians+4:16-18

Dear Father, who lifts our spirits,

According to your teaching, we look for the Lord himself to
descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel's
call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.

We firmly believe that the dead in Christ will rise first, then we
who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them
in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we, they and us,
will be with the Lord and with you forever.

Guide us to comfort and console one another with these words.
Help us remember that our faith is the victory that overcomes the
failure, sin, sickness, and death of this world!

In the name of our conquering and returning Savior. Amen.

WJD! -- God Won't Forget -- Mark 10:28-30

God Won't Forget

Peter said to Jesus, "We left everything to follow you!"
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth. Every person that has left
his home, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, or
farm for me and for the Good News will get a hundred times
more than he left. Here in this world that person will get
more homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and farms.
And with those things, that person will have persecutions.
But he will also have a reward in the world that is coming.
That reward is life forever."

-- Mark 10:28-30 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is basically promising three things in this Scripture. First, he
is saying that the disciples -- and we who follow Jesus today -- can't
out give God. God will bless them and us far more than we could ever
give up for him. Second, that doesn't mean that followers of Jesus will
have easy lives on this side of eternity -- there will be persecutions.
Finally, he promises eternal life. In other words, their sacrifices for
their faith will be far overshadowed by the blessings they will receive
from their Father in heaven.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, thank you for being so generous. I know that I will be
blessed far more than I can imagine as one of your children. Help me
not to lose that hope in the face of hardship, discouragement, and
persecution. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Ezekiel 7:23

VERSE:
"Prepare chains, because the land is full of bloodshed and the
city is full of violence."
-- Ezekiel 7:23
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ezekiel+7:23

THOUGHT:
God hates it when the innocent are afflicted with violence and
bloodshed. He hates evil and political corruption. He hates courts
that are false and leaders who are abusive of their power. We need
to rest assured that he will provide deliverance for his faithful
followers and administer justice to those who have abused or harmed
other people -- if not in this life, for sure in the life to come.

PRAYER:
Father, thank you for assuring me that your justice will
ultimately be done with those who are violent, corrupt, wicked, and
abusive. Give us patience to wait in hope until that day of
ultimate justice is done. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
