Mustard Seed Thoughts: Least First

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Least First
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Jesus asked, How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It is like a tiny mustard seed. Though this is one of the smallest of seeds, it grows to become one of the largest of plants, with long branches where birds can come and find shelter. Mark 4:30-32 NLT

One day I went to my Mother's for lunch. Looking through her cabinets, I found a can of mustard seeds. I poured five or six seeds into my hands (it took that many just so you could see them). I walked around the house showing everyone the seeds. Oh the illustrations were now so clear! Suddenly I got it! I know the audience to whom Jesus was talking completely understood, but I don't see mustard seeds every day, so I didn't quite get the full effect.

I never fully understood this parable of Jesus. Now, it seems crystal clear! I think Jesus was saying, Think little, and you'll be thinking big! Another way of saying it might be, A little produces a whole lot !

The Kingdom of God is about taking a little bit of faith, a little bit of trust, a little bit of response to His call and watching Him produce in our lives some really BIG results. It's about taking our nothingness and turning it into everything by the power of His grace!

The Kingdom of God is about taking the least of these and placing them first! It's about being weak so that we can be strong. It's about being pushed down, so we may be lifted up! It's about losing, so we can win!

The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed small, practically weightless, easily lost, yet as it grows, it produces much fruit! The Kingdom of God takes what we don't have, and when combined with His grace and power, gives us what we don't deserve!

Ah, now I understand!

Morning & Evening -- Matthew 26:56 and Matthew 15:27

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 27, 2009

MORNING:

"Then all the disciples forsook him and fled."
-- Matthew 26:56

He never deserted them, but they in cowardly fear of their lives, fled
from him in the very beginning of his sufferings. This is but one
instructive instance of the frailty of all believers if left to
themselves; they are but sheep at the best, and they flee when the wolf
cometh. They had all been warned of the danger, and had promised to die
rather than leave their Master; and yet they were seized with sudden
panic, and took to their heels. It may be, that I, at the opening of
this day, have braced up my mind to bear a trial for the Lord's sake,
and I imagine myself to be certain to exhibit perfect fidelity; but let
me be very jealous of myself, lest having the same evil heart of
unbelief, I should depart from my Lord as the apostles did. It is one
thing to promise, and quite another to perform. It would have been to
their eternal honour to have stood at Jesus' side right manfully; they
fled from honour; may I be kept from imitating them! Where else could
they have been so safe as near their Master, who could presently call
for twelve legions of angels? They fled from their true safety. O God,
let me not play the fool also. Divine grace can make the coward brave.
The smoking flax can flame forth like fire on the altar when the Lord
wills it. These very apostles who were timid as hares, grew to be bold
as lions after the Spirit had descended upon them, and even so the Holy
Spirit can make my recreant spirit brave to confess my Lord and witness
for his truth.

What anguish must have filled the Saviour as he saw his friends so
faithless! This was one bitter ingredient in his cup; but that cup is
drained dry; let me not put another drop in it. If I forsake my Lord, I
shall crucify him afresh, and put him to an open shame. Keep me, O
blessed Spirit, from an end so shameful.

EVENING:

"And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs
which fall from their master's table."
-- Matthew 15:27

This woman gained comfort in her misery by thinking GREAT THOUGHTS OF
CHRIST. The Master had talked about the children's bread: "Now," argued
she, "since thou art the Master of the table of grace, I know that thou
art a generous housekeeper, and there is sure to be abundance of bread
on thy table; there will be such an abundance for the children that
there will be crumbs to throw on the floor for the dogs, and the
children will fare none the worse because the dogs are fed." She
thought him one who kept so good a table that all that she needed would
only be a crumb in comparison; yet remember, what she wanted was to
have the devil cast out of her daughter. It was a very great thing to
her, but she had such a high esteem of Christ, that she said, "It is
nothing to him, it is but a crumb for Christ to give." This is the
royal road to comfort. Great thoughts of your sin alone will drive you
to despair; but great thoughts of Christ will pilot you into the haven
of peace. "My sins are many, but oh! it is nothing to Jesus to take
them all away. The weight of my guilt presses me down as a giant's foot
would crush a worm, but it is no more than a grain of dust to him,
because he has already borne its curse in his own body on the tree. It
will be but a small thing for him to give me full remission, although
it will be an infinite blessing for me to receive it." The woman opens
her soul's mouth very wide, expecting great things of Jesus, and he
fills it with his love. Dear reader, do the same. She confessed what
Christ laid at her door, but she laid fast hold upon him, and drew
arguments even out of his hard words; she believed great things of him,
and she thus overcame him. SHE WON THE VICTORY BY BELIEVING IN HIM. Her
case is an instance of prevailing faith; and if we would conquer like
her, we must imitate her tactics.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Vision By Personal Character"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 27, 2009

VISION BY PERSONAL CHARACTER

Come up hither, and I will shew thee things.

Revelation 4:1
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=re+4:1&sr=1

An elevated mood can only come out of an elevated habit of personal
character. If in the externals of your life you live up to the
highest you know, God will continually say - "Friend, go up higher."
The golden rule in temptation is - Go higher. When you get higher up,
you face other temptations and characteristics. Satan uses the
strategy of elevation in temptation, and God does the same, but the
effect is different. When the devil puts you into an elevated place,
he makes you screw your idea of holiness beyond what flesh and blood
could ever hear, it is a spiritual acrobatic performance, you are
just poised and dare not move; but when God elevates you by His grace
into the heavenly places, instead of finding a pinnacle to cling to,
you find a great table-land where it is easy to move.

Compare this week in your spiritual history with the same week last
year and see how God has called you up higher. We have all been
brought to see from a higher standpoint. Never let God give you one
point of truth which you do not instantly live up to. Always work it
out, keep in the light of it.

Growth in grace is measured not by the fact that you have not gone
back, but that you have an in sight into where you are spiritually;
you have heard God say "Come up higher," not to you personally, but
to the insight of your character.

"Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?" God has to hide
from us what He does until by personal character we get to the place
where He can reveal it.

Praying with Paul : "Stewardship"

STEWARDSHIP

1 Corinthians 4:1-4
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+4:1-4

Dear Father, judge of all mankind,

Help me be a profitable slave to you and good steward of your
mysteries. As a steward may I be found trustworthy.

May I not be concerned about being judged by human beings or by
any human court. May I not even set in judgment on myself. Only you
do that. I am not aware of anything against myself, but that, I
understand, in and of itself, does not acquit me before you. You
are my judge. You can condemn. And you can and will make me stand.

It is by Jesus' authority and in his name that I offer up this
prayer. Amen.

WJD! -- The Less Taken Way -- Matthew 7:13-14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 27, 2009

The Less Taken Way

"Enter through the narrow gate {that opens the way to
heaven}. The road that leads to hell is a very easy road. And
the gate to hell is very wide. Many people enter that gate.
But the gate that opens the way to {true} life is very small.
And the road to {true} life is very difficult (hard). Only a
few people find that road."

-- Matthew 7:13-14 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Limits, restrictions, rules and judgment -- these are the "cuss words"
of modern society. The world around us responds, "We don't like them;
we don't want them. We are going to criticize anyone who believes in
them." So almost no one talks about these words. When someone does,
there is an immediate backlash of criticism. But the bottom line is
simply this: when left to our own way, the way of our own choosing, we
nearly always end up at war with others or create a mess of things.
Most people walk down that big wide road without ever even thinking
about it. But, with no set of sure values, no real sense of right and
wrong, and no understanding of our need for redemption, the wide road's
destination is always disaster. Jesus challenges his disciples and also
challenges us. He wants us to walk down the less taken path. Yes, it's
a harder path to travel, but it brings ultimate liberation and victory.
We know, because he's already walked that path before us!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Righteous and Holy God, give me strength this day that I may walk your
straight path and not be led astray by the masses that refuse to hear
your voice or live according to your will. In Jesus' name. Amen.

March 27, 2009

VERSE:
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing
with the glory that will be revealed in us.
-- Romans 8:18
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+8:18

THOUGHT:
Is it worth it? Oh yes! It's more than worth it. We can't begin
to imagine the glory God has in store for us. No matter how hard,
bad, or painful our trip through this world may be, our future with
God holds something incomparably better. Does that mean my
difficulties are meaningless or insignificant? Absolutely not! But
our future glory with God does mean that it is more than worth it
to hang in, to be faithful, and to receive his glorious reward!

PRAYER:
Father, I confess that I don't like suffering, pain,
disappointment, persecution, or sorrow. I do, however, believe that
your promises are true. I hold on to the promise that the glory you
have in store for me is far greater than the difficulties I face.
Strengthen me for the days ahead and use me to bring you glory no
matter what my current situation may be. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
-- Romans 8:18

Amen.
