Casting Out Demons

Casting Out Demons

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mark 1:23 And immediately, there was in their synagogue a man
with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, saying, 24 What
have we to do with You, Jesus, Nazarene? Have You come to
destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God. 25 And
Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be quiet and come out of him! 26
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and shouting with a
loud voice, came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so
that they discussed among themselves, saying, What is this? A
new teaching! With authority He orders even the unclean
spirits, and they obey Him
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The possession of people by demons signifies Satan's
usurpation of man, whom God created for His purpose. The
Slave-Savior came to destroy the works of Satan (1 John 3:8),
and the third thing He did as a part of His service to God was
to cast out these demons from the possessed people (Mark 1:34,
39) so that they might be delivered from Satan's bondage (Luke
13:16), out of Satan's authority of darkness (Acts 26:18; Col.
1:13), into God's kingdom (Mark 1:15).

We need the power to cast out the satanic element used by the
enemy to possess people in today's modern countries. Satan,
the subtle serpent, is very clever, and he knows how to
possess people in modern ways. In an uncultured country, he
may use an uncultured means to possess people. But in a
modern, cultured country, he will use modern, cultured means
to usurp people. For example, in the leading colleges and
universities, Satan will possess people in an intellectual
way.

We cannot defeat the enemy's possession of mankind simply by
ordinary preaching and teaching. In order to cast out today's
demons, in our teaching and preaching we must have divine
authority and power. This power and authority can be exercised
only in the name of Jesus. Therefore, we need to call on the
Lord's name and exercise divine authority in and through His
name. If we do this, then in our preaching and teaching there
will be power and authority to cast out the evil possessing
element of the enemy.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Saul's Power 1

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Saul's Power 1
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Philistines assembled to fight Israel, with three thousand chariots, six thousand charioteers, and soldiers as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They went up and camped at Micmash, east of Beth Aven. When the men of Israel saw that their situation was critical and that their army was hard pressed, they hid in caves and thickets, among the rocks, and in pits and cisterns. Some Hebrews even crossed the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul remained at Gilgal, and all the troops with him were quaking with fear. 1 Samuel 13:5-7 NIV

Saul was Israel's first king. Have you ever wondered why he lost favor with God? He was well qualified to be king. Better qualified, some in the world might say, than even King David. He was handsome, a young man with family position, and strong among his peers. Yet, Saul was removed from power and the kingdom was given to another. Not only would Saul no longer be king, but even worse from an Israelite's perspective, the kingdom of Isra el did not even remain in the family lineage of Saul.

Today, we see the event, which led to Sauls downfall. At this point in Israel's history, they were not strong militarily. The Philistines, or the bad guys, could muster up a powerful threat to the Israelites. When Saul's men see their predicament, they ran in fear. The troops, who remained with Saul, were scared useless.

Keep in mind this is the same Israelites that God fed with manna and quail for forty years in the wilderness. This was God's people. They had been promised victory, wherever they set their feet. God had already ordained their final days, and yet when a storm arises, they run for their lives.

Does this sound familiar? Ever feel really confident in your own abilities, and in your relationship to God, but then a storm comes along, which looks bigger than you can handle, and you are ready to hide your face until it passes over? I'd love to assure you that this Mustard Seed writer never loses his faith, but that would not be true. It is a daily struggle to be consistent in my faith, because storms, real storms, do come my way. Sometimes I run and hide; other times I try to handle them in my own way.

This week, as we look at the loss of power in Saul's kingship, my prayer is that we discover the kind of person God wants us to be when the storms of life start thundering!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Just Part of the Job, by Rubel Shelly

A resourceful doctor in rural Australia saved a boy's life with a
handyman's power drill a couple of weeks ago. Hailed as a hero when the
story broke globally, he reacted modestly. "It was not a personal
achievement," he said. "It is just a part of the job, and I had a very
good team of people helping me."

Dr. Rob Carson diagnosed a 12-year-old boy brought to a small
hospital's emergency room with a soon-to-be-fatal brain bleed. Nicholas
Rossi had been riding his bike and took a fall. His mother, a nurse,
realized the bump on his head could be serious and insisted on taking
him to the hospital. By the time they arrived, Nicholas was already
slipping in and out of consciousness.

Dr. Carson made the correct call on what was happening and knew he had
a very short time to take decisive action. He made two decisions.
First, he sent to the maintenance room for a drill, for the rural
hospital didn't have sophisticated neurosurgical tools. Second, he
called a neurosurgeon in Melbourne to ask help with his dilemma. With
an ordinary household drill in hand, he followed the specialist's
guidance through a procedure that worked flawlessly. "General
practitioners in country towns do procedures all the time," said Dr.
Carson. But a father's reaction to that modest take on what happened
was very different. "He saved our son's life!" declared Michael Rossi.

Nicholas was released from the Melbourne hospital to which he was later
transferred on May 19. The date is significant because it was his 13th
birthday.

People took was at hand and put it into God's hands!

Some of us would do well to follow the good doctor's example and learn
to be a bit more clever, gutsy, and inventive in our lives. Are you a
sales person who sits for long periods waiting to see clients? Keep a
Bible or some other good book with you to read instead of old
magazines. Are you a commuter? Rent a book on tape as an alternative to
radio trivia. Can't afford a week at the beach with your family?
Explore interesting places within an hour from home.

Has the tough economy challenged your company's customary client base?
Has illness altered the way your family functions? Has the community
around your church changed radically over the past few years? Every
challenge is a disguised opportunity for creative adaptation and
productive learning.

Gideon used clay jars and trumpets to rout an army. Samson used the
jawbone from a donkey's carcass to defeat his enemies. Jesus used a
little boy's sack lunch of bread and dried fish to feed thousands. In
these biblical episodes, people took was at hand and put it into God's
hands -- with amazing outcomes.

Creativity often comes not from seeing the light but from feeling the
heat. Maybe it will be that way with the challenge you are facing
today. Your task is not to guarantee outcomes with certainty but to
address problems with courage.

Morning & Evening -- Genesis 1:5 and Isaiah 51:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 1, 2009

MORNING:

"The evening and the morning were the first day."
-- Genesis 1:5

Was it so even in the beginning? Did light and darkness divide the
realm of time in the first day? Then little wonder is it if I have also
changes in my circumstances from the sunshine of prosperity to the
midnight of adversity. It will not always be the blaze of noon even in
my soul concerns, I must expect at seasons to mourn the absence of my
former joys, and seek my Beloved in the night. Nor am I alone in this,
for all the Lord's beloved ones have had to sing the mingled song of
judgment and of mercy, of trial and deliverance, of mourning and of
delight. It is one of the arrangements of Divine providence that day
and night shall not cease either in the spiritual or natural creation
till we reach the land of which it is written, "there is no night
there." What our heavenly Father ordains is wise and good.

What, then, my soul, is it best for thee to do? Learn first to be
content with this divine order, and be willing, with Job, to receive
evil from the hand of the Lord as well as good. Study next, to make the
outgoings of the morning and the evening to rejoice. Praise the Lord
for the sun of joy when it rises, and for the gloom of evening as it
falls. There is beauty both in sunrise and sunset, sing of it, and
glorify the Lord. Like the nightingale, pour forth thy notes at all
hours. Believe that the night is as useful as the day. The dews of
grace fall heavily in the night of sorrow. The stars of promise shine
forth gloriously amid the darkness of grief. Continue thy service under
all changes. If in the day thy watchword be labour, at night exchange
it for watch. Every hour has its duty, do thou continue in thy calling
as the Lord's servant until he shall suddenly appear in his glory. My
soul, thine evening of old age and death is drawing near, dread it not,
for it is part of the day; and the Lord has said, "I will cover him all
the day long."

EVENING:

"He will make her wilderness like Eden."
-- Isaiah 51:3

Methinks, I see in vision a howling wilderness, a great and terrible
desert, like to the Sahara. I perceive nothing in it to relieve the
eye, all around I am wearied with a vision of hot and arid sand, strewn
with ten thousand bleaching skeletons of wretched men who have expired
in anguish, having lost their way in the pitiless waste. What an
appalling sight! How horrible! a sea of sand without a bound, and
without an oasis, a cheerless graveyard for a race forlorn! But behold
and wonder! Upon a sudden, upspringing from the scorching sand I see a
plant of renown; and as it grows it buds, the bud expands-it is a rose,
and at its side a lily bows its modest head; and, miracle of miracles!
as the fragrance of those flowers is diffused the wilderness is
transformed into a fruitful field, and all around it blossoms
exceedingly, the glory of Lebanon is given unto it, the excellency of
Carmel and Sharon. Call it not Sahara, call it Paradise. Speak not of
it any longer as the valley of deathshade, for where the skeletons lay
bleaching in the sun, behold a resurrection is proclaimed, and up
spring the dead, a mighty army, full of life immortal. Jesus is that
plant of renown, and his presence makes all things new. Nor is the
wonder less in each individual's salvation. Yonder I behold you, dear
reader, cast out, an infant, unswathed, unwashed, defiled with your own
blood, left to be food for beasts of prey. But lo, a jewel has been
thrown into your bosom by a divine hand, and for its sake you have been
pitied and tended by divine providence, you are washed and cleansed
from your defilement, you are adopted into heaven's family, the fair
seal of love is upon your forehead, and the ring of faithfulness is on
your hand-you are now a prince unto God, though once an orphan, cast
away. O prize exceedingly the matchless power and grace which changes
deserts into gardens, and makes the barren heart to sing for joy.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Staggering Question"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 1, 2009

THE STAGGERING QUESTION

Son of man, can these bones live?

Ezekiel 37:3
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=eze+37:3&sr=1

Can that sinner be turned into a saint? Can that twisted life be put
right? There is only one answer: "0 Lord, Thou knowest, I don't."
Never trample in with religious common sense and say - "Oh, yes, with
a little more Bible reading and devotion and prayer, I see how it can
be done."

It is much easier to do something than to trust in God; we mistake
panic for inspiration. That is why there are so few fellow workers
with God and so many workers for Him. We would far rather work for
God than believe in Him. Am I quite sure that God will do what I
cannot do? I despair of men in the degree in which I have never
realized that God has done anything for me. Is my experience such a
wonderful realization of God's power and might that I can never
despair of anyone I see? Have I had any spiritual work done in me at
all? The degree of panic is the degree of the lack of personal
spiritual experience.

"Behold, 0 my people, I will open your graves." When God wants to
show you what human nature is like apart from Himself, He has to show
it you in yourself. If the Spirit of God has given you a vision of
what you are apart from the grace of God (and He only does it when
His Spirit is at work), you know there is no criminal who is half so
bad in actuality as you know yourself to be in possibility. My
"grave" has been opened by God and "I know that in me (that is, in my
flesh) dwelleth no good thing." God's Spirit continually reveals what
human nature is like apart from His grace.

Praying with Paul : "All-encompassing Compassion"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL-ENCOMPASSING COMPASSION

2 Corinthians 6:1-11
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+6:1-11

Dear Father, blessed bestower of grace,

Let me work together with you to entreat people not to reject or
ignore your offer of grace, or to accept it in vain.

Since today is the acceptable time, since today is the day of
salvation, may I never-nor anything about me-be an obstacle in the
way of someone else's acceptance.

Let my mouth be open to all who will listen. Help my heart be as
wide as all humanity.

In the name of Jesus, whose compassion reached to every human
being. Amen.

Mercy?

"The Scripture says, 'I don't want animal sacrifices; I want
you to show kindness to people.' You don't really know what
those words mean. If you understood those words, then you
would not judge those people that have done nothing wrong."

-- Matthew 12:7 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Legalism stresses rules and crushes people. Jesus' biggest battles were
with those who adhered to rules and law-keeping constructs while
ignoring the demands of the Law that are close to the heart of God. Our
goal as disciples is to be faithful to Jesus' commands and his intent.
That's why having the Holy Spirit is such a blessing. He not only
inspired the message and helps us in understanding it, but he also
empowers us to do what Jesus desires. Of course, Jesus' consistent
desire was to see people redeemed, not condemned.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, I know doing your will is essential. But help me understand
that will with both my heart and my head. I don't want to just know
your commands, but I want to also know you. I don't want to just be
able to recite your demands, but I want to also reflect your character.
You have been so gracious to me; give me the courage to be gracious to
others. In the name of Jesus of Nazareth I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Romans 6:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 1, 2009

VERSE:
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace
may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it
any longer?
-- Romans 6:1
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+6:1

THOUGHT:
Grace doesn't mean that we are sloppy with sin. We have died to
sin when we surrendered our lives to the Lordship of Christ. We
don't want sin, or its power, to have control over us. We don't
want to take lightly the awful cost Jesus paid to cover our sin.
The apostle Paul uses the strongest language possible ("By no
means!" is way too tame a translation: "God forbid!" "Unthinkable!"
"Abomination!" would all be much more accurate.) As those saved by
grace, we realize that sin is more than spurning the will of God or
breaking a divine command; sin is making light of Jesus' sacrifice
for us, sin is rebelling against the Father who paid such a high
price to adopt us into his family, and sin is breaking our Father's
heart to choose our own self-destructive path.

PRAYER:
Father, thank you for your incomparable and generous grace. You
lavished this grace upon me through Jesus' death on the Cross. I
thank you for the salvation that I have received through his
sacrifice. Please make my own sin abhorrent to me. Give me a
passion for holiness and a deeper appreciation of what it cost you
to make me holy. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
