Mustard Seed Thoughts: Ten Billion?

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Ten Billion?
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
What good will it be if a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Matthew 16:26a NIV

The Lord asked me a question one day. Now it wasn't an audible question, but I knew it came straight from Him. It was simple, easy to understand, but it required me to concentrate deeply before I answered.

Here's the question: If I had to make a choice between two options which would I choose?

1. I could receive $10 million. I would keep my salvation, but lose my close walk with God.

2. I could lose everything I had materially, but grow far deeper in my walk with God.

Dear reader, I hope by now that you know how I love the Lord. I consider myself a sold-out Christian. But, I want you to know this was a difficult choice to make at least at first.

You see, I know what it is like to have little. I know how it feels to owe more than you make. I have had the sensation of wondering how I would pay my mortgage. Let me tell you (and many of you can relate), it ain't fun (excuse me for the use of an incorrect word, but it seemed to fit).

I thought for a minute. Do you realize that probably 80% of the worldly problems I have ever had in life could have been solved with a little bit more money? If I had $10 million, I could eliminate all but 20% of my problems, at least in theory.

Then I remembered, through all my hard times, where would I have been without my walk Jesus? How could I have survived if it hadn't been for the great Comforter? Where would my strength come from if God wasn't active in my life? How could I live without Him?

No, the choice is clear! Ten million, or ten billion, it doesn't matter, nothing can take the place of a steady, growing relationship with the God Almighty!

Nothing!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Undo Send: What a Great Idea!, by Rubel Shelly

You've probably seen the TV commercial about the group sitting around a
table, completing a conversation with the boss via phone conference,
and hitting the mute button to trash talk him. Just at that moment, a
technician walks in to explain he is there to fix the broken mute key.
Uh-oh! Bad career move!

In real life this past week, five of us were around a table, completed
a phone conference with a person, and thought we had ended and hung up.
I was seated immediately in front of the speakerphone and made some
comments to our group about him and our call. Then we heard his voice!
"You guys may need to hang up on your end," he said. "I seem to be
having trouble disconnecting."

Maybe that's why an online article from CNN caught my eye the next day.
It was about a new feature called "Undo Send" that Google's Gmail is
developing. "Undo Send" is an option someone can enable on her Gmail
account. When she composes an e-mail and hits the send button, an
"Undo" button will pop onto the screen for five seconds. Clicking it
retrieves the e-mail in draft form and lets the author correct
spelling, edit content, or simply cancel the message altogether.

Don't you wish you had a feature like that on your tongue! I could have
used it countless times to save myself embarrassment. To keep from
offending. To just keep my big mouth shut -- instead of firing back
some angry or hateful line. But without an "Undo Send" button, it was
hurled across that space between me and a friend or mate or stranger.
And I was left to try to clean up the mess.

My mother used to tell me to count to ten before speaking.

I admit to having learned a few things from living. One of them has to
do with the importance of putting a bridle on my tongue. For all the
times I still talk when I should be listening, I'm actually better at
it than I used to be.

My mother used to tell me to count to ten before speaking. (She saw my
need early. I seldom got past about three or four.) Then I grew up, got
married, and had more adult responsibilities. I learned the hard way
that she had given me some really good advice. Having to apologize and
to recoup relationships (when possible!) over time finally taught me
the value of restraint.

As you get ready to begin a new week, think about the value "Undo Send"
could have for your electronic communications. Make a firm resolve to
use its verbal equivalent in your workplace, family, and church this
week. And pray for God to give you the restraint to follow through with
your commitment.

If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are
fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless (James 1:26 NLT).

By the way, just in case you were wondering, I said some really
positive things about the fellow on the other end of that open phone
line. Whew!

Morning & Evening -- 1 Peter 1:19 and Exodus 17:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 16, 2009

MORNING:

"The precious blood of Christ."
-- 1 Peter 1:19

Standing at the foot of the cross, we see hands, and feet, and side,
all distilling crimson streams of precious blood. It is "precious"
because of its redeeming and atoning efficacy. By it the sins of
Christ's people are atoned for; they are redeemed from under the law;
they are reconciled to God, made one with him. Christ's blood is also
"precious" in its cleansing power; it "cleanseth from all sin." "Though
your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." Through
Jesus' blood there is not a spot left upon any believer, no wrinkle nor
any such thing remains. O precious blood, which makes us clean,
removing the stains of abundant iniquity, and permitting us to stand
accepted in the Beloved, notwithstanding the many ways in which we have
rebelled against our God. The blood of Christ is likewise "precious" in
its preserving power. We are safe from the destroying angel under the
sprinkled blood. Remember it is God's seeing the blood which is the
true reason for our being spared. Here is comfort for us when the eye
of faith is dim, for God's eye is still the same. The blood of Christ
is "precious" also in its sanctifying influence. The same blood which
justifies by taking away sin, does in its after-action, quicken the new
nature and lead it onward to subdue sin and to follow out the commands
of God. There is no motive for holiness so great as that which streams
from the veins of Jesus. And "precious," unspeakably precious, is this
blood, because it has an overcoming power. It is written, "They
overcame through the blood of the Lamb." How could they do otherwise?
He who fights with the precious blood of Jesus, fights with a weapon
which cannot know defeat. The blood of Jesus! sin dies at its presence,
death ceases to be death: heaven's gates are opened. The blood of
Jesus! we shall march on, conquering and to conquer, so long as we can
trust its power!

EVENING:

"And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun."
-- Exodus 17:12

So mighty was the prayer of Moses, that all depended upon it. The
petitions of Moses discomfited the enemy more than the fighting of
Joshua. Yet both were needed. No, in the soul's conflict, force and
fervour, decision and devotion, valour and vehemence, must join their
forces, and all will be well. You must wrestle with your sin, but the
major part of the wrestling must be done alone in private with God.
Prayer, like Moses', holds up the token of the covenant before the
Lord. The rod was the emblem of God's working with Moses, the symbol of
God's government in Israel. Learn, O pleading saint, to hold up the
promise and the oath of God before him. The Lord cannot deny his own
declarations. Hold up the rod of promise, and have what you will.

Moses grew weary, and then his friends assisted him. When at any time
your prayer flags, let faith support one hand, and let holy hope uplift
the other, and prayer seating itself upon the stone of Israel, the rock
of our salvation, will persevere and prevail. Beware of faintness in
devotion; if Moses felt it, who can escape? It is far easier to fight
with sin in public, than to pray against it in private. It is remarked
that Joshua never grew weary in the fighting, but Moses did grow weary
in the praying; the more spiritual an exercise, the more difficult it
is for flesh and blood to maintain it. Let us cry, then, for special
strength, and may the Spirit of God, who helpeth our infirmities, as he
allowed help to Moses, enable us like him to continue with our hands
steady "until the going down of the sun;" till the evening of life is
over; till we shall come to the rising of a better sun in the land
where prayer is swallowed up in praise.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Can You Come Down?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 16, 2009

CAN YOU COME DOWN?

While ye have light, believe in the light.

John 12:36
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+12:36&sr=1

We all have moments when we feel better than our best, and we say -
"I feel fit for anything; if only I could be like this always!" We
are not meant to be. Those moments are moments of in sight which we
have to live up to when we do not feel like it. Many of us are no
good for this workaday world when there is no high hour. We must
bring our commonplace life up to the standard revealed in the high
hour.

Never allow a feeling which was stirred in you in the high hour to
evaporate. Don't put your mental feet on the mantelpiece and say -
"What a marvellous state of mind to be in!" Act immediately, do
something, if only because you would rather not do it. If in a prayer
meeting God has shown you something to do, don't say - "I'll do it";
do it! Take yourself by the scruff of the neck and shake off your
incarnate laziness. Laziness is always seen in cravings for the high
hour; we talk about working up to a time on the mount. We have to
learn to live in the grey day according to what we saw on the mount.

Don't cave in because you have been baffled once, get at it again.
Burn your bridges behind you, and stand committed to God by your own
act. Never revise your decisions, but see that you make your
decisions in the light of the high hour.

Praying with Paul : "Perseverence"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

PERSEVERENCE

1 Corinthians 10:6-15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+10:6-15

Dear Father, righteous judge of all mankind,

Help me to live as one upon whom the end of the ages has come.
Help me take what happened to the Israelites as a warning to
myself. Don't let me get puffed up, thinking that I cannot fall.
But at the same time let me keep in mind that no temptation has
overtaken me that is not common to man. Help me remember that you
are faithful and will not allow me to be tempted beyond my
strength, but with every temptation will also provide the way for
me to escape, that I may be able to endure it!

The way of escape may be death, as it was for Jesus. If so, may I
be willing to die if that is what it takes to enter your eternal
kingdom.

It is better that I should enter it with eyes or hands gone than
to enter into hell with my whole body intact. Help me to obey you
from a heart of love and gratefulness for what you have done for
me.

In the name of Jesus grant me such love for you that I will
persevere in obedience until the very end. Amen.

Authority

When Jesus was leaving, he saw a man named Matthew. Matthew
was sitting at his place for collecting taxes. Jesus said to
him, "Follow me." Then Matthew stood up and followed Jesus.

-- Matthew 9:9 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Not only does Jesus have the authority to forgive sins, he has the
authority to command sinners to follow and they follow. They respond
with a change of heart and behavior. A classic example is Matthew the
tax collector -- tax collectors in Jesus day were renowned for using
their position for personal gain and were associated with traitors who
sold out to the Roman occupiers. He is a great witness that Jesus cares
for all and goes in search of all. He is a great reminder that
redemptive love allows no cultural or social barriers to love.
Matthew's response is the great reminder that many sinners are looking
for a Savior. All they need is someone to show them how to get him.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and merciful God, thank you for coming to this world to save
sinners. I thank you for the grace you've given to me. Please help me
be more gracious to others and come closer to your grace and
forgiveness. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 15:24

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 16, 2009

VERSE:
Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God
the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and
power.
-- 1 Corinthians 15:24
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:24

THOUGHT:
Closing time! That's when everything is counted, the doors are
locked, and the final tally is made. Jesus is Lord of closing time.
Even though he won the victory over death and sin while he was
here, we're still waiting to get swept up into his victory march.
But, that day is coming. Every knee will bow! Every evil power will
face destruction. The hearts that are yielded to God, however, will
be placed into his loving and mighty hands forever. Our Lord
reigns!

PRAYER:
Almighty God, Father of grace and mercy, I appreciate your
tenderness and patience with me. However, Father, I am also
comforted to know your power and might. I am heartened to know that
Jesus will assert his rule and destroy everything false, malicious,
evil, and wicked. May that day come, soon! In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

THE END OF REASON: A RESPONSE TO THE NEW ATHEISTS, by Ravi Zacharias
Zacharias cuts to the core of the atheist problem and presents a case
