Suffering Man’s Persecution at His Death

Suffering Man's Persecution at His Death
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 23:32 And two others also, who were criminals, were led
with Him to be executed. (33) And when they came to the place
called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals,
one on the right and one on the left. (34) And Jesus said,
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.
And dividing His garments, they cast lots. (35) And the people
stood by, looking on. And the rulers also sneered, saying, He
saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God,
the Chosen One! (36) And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming to
Him and offering Him vinegar, (37) And saying, If You are the
King of the Jews, save Yourself! (38) And there was also an
inscription over Him: This is the King of the Jews. (39) And one
of the criminals who were hanged there blasphemed Him, saying,
Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us! (40) But the
other, answering, rebuked him and said, Do you not even fear
God, since you are in the same judgment? (41) And we justly, for
we are receiving what we deserve for what we did, but this Man
has done nothing amiss. (42) And he said, Jesus, remember me
when You come into Your kingdom. (43) And He said to him, Truly
I say to you, Today you shall be with Me in Paradise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As we read the record in this Gospel, we see that the Lord Jesus
was put on the cross by man. He was accused by the religious
leaders, sentenced to death by Roman rulers, especially Pilate,
and then put on the cross by the Roman soldiers.

In 23:26-43 we see that on the cross the Man-Savior suffered the
persecution of men. He was mocked and ridiculed by both the
Jewish leaders and the Roman soldiers (vv. 35-36). The Lord
Jesus was put on the cross at nine o'clock in the morning and
remained there until three o'clock in the afternoon. This means
that He was on the cross for six hours. These six hours may be
divided into two groups of three hours each: the first from nine
o'clock until noon, and the second from noon until three o'clock
in the afternoon. During the first three hours, the Man-Savior
suffered the persecution of men. The religious people ridiculed
Him, and the Roman soldiers mocked Him. Even "one of the
criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, Are you not
the Christ? Save yourself and us!" (v. 39). Therefore, during
the first three hours on the cross, the Lord was a victim of
human persecution, and He suffered this persecution as a martyr.

In 23:44-49 we see that, during the second period of the six
hours on the cross, the Man-Savior suffered the judgment of God
for sinners to accomplish the vicarious death for them.
Therefore, in 23:26-49 we see two aspects of the Lord's death:
the aspect of man's persecution and the aspect of God's
judgment. First the Lord Jesus suffered man's persecution, and
He suffered this as a martyr, not as the Redeemer. Then, as the
Redeemer, no longer as a martyr suffering persecution, He
suffered God's judgment for us, the sinners.

Today's Verse : Proverbs 10:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 8, 2007

VERSE:
The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of
the wicked will rot.
-- Proverbs 10:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Proverbs+10:7

THOUGHT:
Each of us is creating a legacy. The influence of our lives will
leave an imprint on all those the Lord has brought into our lives
for us to touch. This proverb reminds us that our legacy will live
far beyond us. If our lives are righteous, that legacy will be an
ongoing blessing as stories of our lives are passed on to future
generations. On the other hand, if our lives have been given over
to wickedness, we will leave behind the lingering stench of
something potentially useful gone sour and something lasting given
over to rot.

PRAYER:
O mighty God, may my life be a sweet blessing to my children and
my children's children -- whether those children are physical or
spiritual. May my influence bring you glory and also bring others
to know you and your grace. Forgive me when I fail to see the
length of the shadow my influence casts and help me to see those
you have purposely sent my way for me to touch with your grace. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: 100 Part 3

Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Psalm 100:3 NIV

You were made by God. He thought about you. He designed you. He knitted you together in your mother's womb. Before you were "a twinkle in your daddy's eye", God had you on His mind.

If you are a child of God, through Jesus Christ, then you are also a sheep in His pasture. He is guiding, molding, and shaping you. Just as a shepherd cares for his flock, so is God caring for you. Why? Because you are His!

The three boys in our home (this includes me) wanted a dog. Year after year, we begged my wife to let us have a dog. Where we live dictated that we have an inside dog, and it was this idea that my wife continually refused. About seven or eight years ago at Christmas, Cheryl agreed, and we surprised our boys with a Yorkie puppy. It was the boy's Christmas present. My wife didn't want a dog, but, years later (really the first night into the process), that dog is my wife's dog! She owns it. She cares for it. She loves it!

When you are a child of God, He is going to watch over you, because you are His child. Jesus loves the little children. All the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Remind yourself today that you are God's, and He loves you!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Easier Said Than Done, by Steve Ridgell

You climb 294 steps up a steep winding staircase; that is how you get
to the top of the Bunker Hill monument. At first I thought it was
amazing how the view from the top had these little black dots jumping
all around. Then I realized something was not right. Shock of all
shocks... I am out of shape. I should not be that way. I resolved to
get in shape. Even better, I decided to do something great. I think
I'll run a marathon.

It is not as easy as I thought. The first day I got up to run, it was
really too cold. The second day I was pretty tired from the day before.
The third day I did not feel too well. Then one of my co-workers had a
birthday so we had to have Cheesecake. I would have skipped it but I
didn't want to be rude. And it is embarrassing to be different than
every one else.

I did, however, buy some really good running shoes. I even bought some
nice workout clothes. They look good in the closet.

It strikes me that some of us treat our spiritual lives the same way.
We have really good intentions, we even make really strong commitments,
but the follow through is the tough part. There are always other things
to get in the way. We have work responsibilities, family commitments,
and there are only so many hours in a day. Temptations keep us from
focusing on our goal.

Yet … we can still look like we are committed Christians. We go to
church, act pretty well, and say the right things. But nothing really
changes. Jesus did not die so we could play at our Christianity. His
call is to die so we can live a new life.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ
lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the
Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me (Galatians 2:20
NIV).

It is radical! All out! Everything or nothing Christianity.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 49:16 and Acts 1:8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

MORNING:

"Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands."
-- Isaiah 49:16

No doubt a part of the wonder which is concentrated in the word
"Behold," is excited by the unbelieving lamentation of the preceding
sentence. Zion said, "The Lord hath forsaken me, and my God hath
forgotten me." How amazed the divine mind seems to be at this wicked
unbelief! What can be more astounding than the unfounded doubts and
fears of God's favoured people? The Lord's loving word of rebuke should
make us blush; he cries, "How can I have forgotten thee, when I have
graven thee upon the palms of my hands? How darest thou doubt my
constant remembrance, when the memorial is set upon my very flesh?" O
unbelief, how strange a marvel thou art! We know not which most to
wonder at, the faithfulness of God or the unbelief of his people. He
keeps his promise a thousand times, and yet the next trial makes us
doubt him. He never faileth; he is never a dry well; he is never as a
setting sun, a passing meteor, or a melting vapour; and yet we are as
continually vexed with anxieties, molested with suspicions, and
disturbed with fears, as if our God were the mirage of the desert.
"Behold," is a word intended to excite admiration. Here, indeed, we
have a theme for marvelling. Heaven and earth may well be astonished
that rebels should obtain so great a nearness to the heart of infinite
love as to be written upon the palms of his hands. "I have graven
thee."It does not say, "Thy name." The name is there, but that is not
all: "I have graven thee." See the fulness of this! I have graven thy
person, thine image, thy case, thy circumstances, thy sins, thy
temptations, thy weaknesses, thy wants, thy works; I have graven thee,
everything about thee, all that concerns thee; I have put thee
altogether there. Wilt thou ever say again that thy God hath forsaken
thee when he has graven thee upon his own palms?

EVENING:

"And ye shall be witnesses unto me."
-- Acts 1:8

In order to learn how to discharge your duty as a witness for Christ,
look at his example. He is always witnessing: by the well of Samaria,
or in the Temple of Jerusalem: by the lake of Gennesaret, or on the
mountain's brow. He is witnessing night and day; his mighty prayers are
as vocal to God as his daily services. He witnesses under all
circumstances; Scribes and Pharisees cannot shut his mouth; even before
Pilate he witnesses a good confession. He witnesses so clearly, and
distinctly that there is no mistake in him. Christian, make your life a
clear testimony. Be you as the brook wherein you may see every stone at
the bottom-not as the muddy creek, of which you only see the
surface-but clear and transparent, so that your heart's love to God and
man may be visible to all. You need not say, "I am true:" be true.
Boast not of integrity, but be upright. So shall your testimony be such
that men cannot help seeing it. Never, for fear of feeble man, restrain
your witness. Your lips have been warmed with a coal from off the
altar; let them speak as like heaven-touched lips should do. "In the
morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand."
Watch not the clouds, consult not the wind-in season and out of season
witness for the Saviour, and if it shall come to pass that for Christ's
sake and the gospel's you shall endure suffering in any shape, shrink
not, but rejoice in the honour thus conferred upon you, that you are
counted worthy to suffer with your Lord; and joy also in this-that your
sufferings, your losses, and persecutions shall make you a platform,
from which the more vigorously and with greater power you shall witness
for Christ Jesus. Study your great Exemplar, and be filled with his
Spirit. Remember that you need much teaching, much upholding, much
grace, and much humility, if your witnessing is to be to your Master's
glory.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Undetected Sacredness Of Circumstances"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 7, 2007

THE UNDETECTED SACREDNESS OF CIRCUMSTANCES

All things work together for good to them that love God.

Romans 8:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+8:28&sr=1

The circumstances of a saint's life are ordained of God. In the life
of a saint there is no such thing as chance. God by His providence
brings you into circumstances that you cannot understand at all, but
the Spirit of God understands. God is bringing you into places and
among people and into conditions in order that the intercession of
the Spirit in you may take a particular line. Never put your hand in
front of the circumstances and say - I am going to be my own
providence here, I must watch this, and guard that. All your
circumstances are in the hand of God, therefore never think it
strange concerning the circumstances you are in. Your part in
intercessory prayer is not to enter into the agony of intercession,
but to utilize the common-sense circumstances God puts you in, and
the common-sense people He puts you amongst by His providence, to
bring them before God's throne and give the Spirit in you a chance to
intercede for them. In this way God is going to sweep the whole world
with His saints.

Am I making the Holy Spirit's work difficult by being indefinite, or
by trying to do His work for Him? I must do the human side of
intercession, and the human side is the circumstances I am in and the
people I am in contact with. I have to keep my conscious life as a
shrine of the Holy Ghost, then as I bring the different ones before
God, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for them.

Your intercessions can never be mine, and my intercessions can never
be yours, but the Holy Ghost makes intercession in our particular
lives, without which intercession someone will be impoverished.

Dear Father,

Fill me with your heavenly wisdom, which involves alertness to
problems and opportunities, avoidance of addictions, fullness of
your Spirit, overflowing joy, and constant thanksgiving!

For your heavenly wisdom is pure, peace-loving, considerate,
submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.
And true wisdom begins with awesome reverence for you!

To you be all the glory, honor, and dominion. Forever and ever!

In the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

WJD! -- Unhealthy Rush -- Luke 19:11-14

Unhealthy Rush

Jesus traveled closer to Jerusalem. Some of the people
thought that God's kingdom would come soon. Jesus knew the
people thought this, so he told them this story: "A very
important man was preparing to go to a country far away to be
made a king. Then the man planned to return home and rule his
people. So he called ten of his servants together. He gave a
bag of money to each servant. The man said, 'Do business with
this money until I come back.' But the people in the kingdom
hated the man. So the people sent a group to follow the man
to the other country. In the other country, this group said,
'We don't want that man to be our king!'"

-- Luke 19:11-14 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is trying to slow down the rush running through the crowd. The
rumor has gotten started that the Kingdom of God is going to begin
immediately on his arrival in Jerusalem. He chooses to use a story to
dispel this myth. However, the key for us is to notice how followers of
Jesus want to rush his work rather than letting him fulfill matters
based upon his Father's timing and will. Our impatience with the Lord's
timing can lead us into making poor decisions.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, give me the wisdom to know your will in my life and the patient
endurance to wait on your timing. Forgive me for my foolish impatience.
Through your Spirit, please develop my self-control, patience, and
peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.
