Today's Verse : Habakkuk 2:9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 9, 2008

VERSE:
"Woe to him who builds his realm by unjust gain to set his nest
on high, to escape the clutches of ruin!"
-- Habakkuk 2:9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Habakkuk+2:9

THOUGHT:
In our "dog eat dog" world, in our race to get to the top and
leave all our rivals in a heap at the bottom, God tells us both
"Whoa!" and "Woe!" He tells us to stop and realize that Kingdom
values are different from worldly values -- that there is no
success without service. He also warns us that he will bring us to
ruin if we ignore his values by placing ourselves above the
well-being of others or pursuing our own success at the cost of our
ethics.

PRAYER:
Gracious, almighty, and righteous God, please strengthen me so
that I can resist the temptation to exploit, cheat, and lie to get
ahead. Dear Father, I truly want to be a person of integrity,
character, and blessing. Please help me to see any duplicity in my
own heart and to treat others graciously, just as you have so
graciously treated me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Gehazi Five

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Gehazi Five
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Naaman's leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever." Then Gehazi went from Elisha's presence and he was leprous, as white as snow. 2 Kings 5:27 NIV

God had lost his patience with Gehazi. Gehazi took matters into his own hands, because he did not fully trust God to provide for all his needs. His actions cost him a lifetime of future misery.

What is your sin costing you? Are there missed blessings or are you doing without, because you have refused to turn from sinful practices? I talk to someone nearly every month that is consumed with the sin of pornography. They are mostly men, living what appears to be a normal life, but the lewdness of the Internet or dirty magazines has them captivated, and they dont know how to quit. I hear from people who are so burdened with problems, and they want to trust God, but they cant help falling into the sin of worry.

If you are struggling in sin, whether it be a sin of the flesh or a sin of the sp irit, may I gently remind you that your sin will have a lifetime of consequences. I am thankful that the Bible talks a lot about the rewards for righteousness and how God wants to bless us for obedience. God's grace is sufficient for any and every sin, but we cannot forget that consequences still remain for sin even today. Sometimes (many times) bad things happen through no sin of our own, but because we live in a fallen world, but many times it's our own sin causing the destruction in our life.

Yes, Jesus died for our sins and our sins can be hidden in Him, but we are not immune from sin today. We battle our flesh daily, and when sin is the victor, we are not within the perfect will of God for our lives. God cannot and will not bless sin! He will not be found near unrighteousness!

Praise God, He is faithful to forgive us of our sins, and He will cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness, but in order for that to take place, we must repent! We must turn from our sin and seek forgiveness! Then the healing begins! Then the blessings flow! Then our lives are pleasing to Him and bring Him glory and honor! Oh, may we be found faithful and pure when He returns! Give us clean hearts, oh LORD, give us clean hearts!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Lay Your Burden Down, by Alan Smith

On August 15, 1930, a New York State Supreme Court Justice named Joseph
Carter hailed a cab and was never seen or heard from again. The FBI
thought his disappearance might be related to his work as a judge
because of mob cases heard before his court. But since there was no
hard evidence to support this theory, the case remains open to this
day. All the work led investigators to a dead end. The only clue was a
note Joseph Carter left for his wife, which said: "I am very, very
tired. Love, Joe." That was it, no one ever heard from him.

I can't help but feel that there are a lot of us who feel the same way.
And Jesus has something to say to the person who is exhausted, worn
out, frustrated, and weary. Jesus invited us to accept his offer of
rest.

"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle
and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew
11:28-29).

While we are looking forward to the rest that awaits us in heaven, I
don't think Jesus is talking about heaven in this situation (Matthew 11).
I think he's offering rest for our souls here and now. Somebody to help
carry our burden.

The apostle Paul would later say, "Bear one another's burdens" (Galatians
6:2). We can do that for one another. There have been some times in my
life when I've gone through some things that I just don't think I could
have handled if I didn't have brothers and sisters in Christ to be
there for me. But what we do for one another in a small way, Christ
does for us to a much greater measure.

That was a wonderful feeling!

Whatever burden you are carrying right now, Christ says he'll be there
for you. Whether it's problems in your marriage or your children are in
trouble at school or with the law. Maybe it's burdens of loneliness,
burdens of taking care of sick relatives, burdens of disappointment, or
burdens of rejection, or the oppressive burdens of addictions. Maybe
it's the burden of not knowing which way to turn next. Life is filled
with stress, with cares, and with worries.

The reality is that life can be very difficult, but these are the very
kinds of burdens that Jesus wants us to bring to him. Jesus is saying,
"Come to me all you who are struggling with life in any way, and those
of you who have burdens that you can't carry alone, and I will help you
with your struggles."

Do you remember the last time you made a trip to the airport with all
your luggage? A couple of years ago, we took our daughter to the
airport. She had absolutely crammed her suitcases as full as she could
get them because she was moving to Germany. One of them weighed 65
pounds and the other one weighed 83 pounds. Fortunately they had the
little wheels on them because I can't imagine what it would have been
like if we had to lug those things all over the airport trying to find
the right ticket counter. And, I want to tell you, when the ticket
agent took those suitcases from us and we didn't have to carry them
around anymore, that was a wonderful feeling. No more burden.

That's what Jesus does for us. Jesus is always on the lookout for
hurting people. People who are bold enough to admit, "Lord, I need some
help. I can't carry these problems alone." And he's promised to do it.
He said, "Come to me ... and I will give you rest."

Morning & Evening -- Matthew 1:21 and Matthew 1:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 8, 2008

MORNING:

"Thou shalt call his name Jesus."
-- Matthew 1:21

When a person is dear, everything connected with him becomes dear for
his sake. Thus, so precious is the person of the Lord Jesus in the
estimation of all true believers, that everything about him they
consider to be inestimable beyond all price. "All thy garments smell of
myrrh, and aloes, and cassia," said David, as if the very vestments of
the Saviour were so sweetened by his person that he could not but love
them. Certain it is, that there is not a spot where that hallowed foot
hath trodden-there is not a word which those blessed lips have
uttered-nor a thought which his loving Word has revealed-which is not
to us precious beyond all price. And this is true of the names of
Christ-they are all sweet in the believer's ear. Whether he be called
the Husband of the Church, her Bridegroom, her Friend; whether he be
styled the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world-the King, the
Prophet, or the Priest-every title of our Master-Shiloh, Emmanuel,
Wonderful, the Mighty Counsellor-every name is like the honeycomb
dropping with honey, and luscious are the drops that distil from it.
But if there be one name sweeter than another in the believer's ear, it
is the name of Jesus. Jesus! it is the name which moves the harps of
heaven to melody. Jesus! the life of all our joys. If there be one name
more charming, more precious than another, it is this name. It is woven
into the very warp and woof of our psalmody. Many of our hymns begin
with it, and scarcely any, that are good for anything, end without it.
It is the sum total of all delights. It is the music with which the
bells of heaven ring; a song in a word; an ocean for comprehension,
although a drop for brevity; a matchless oratorio in two syllables; a
gathering up of the hallelujahs of eternity in five letters.

"Jesus, I love thy charming name,
'Tis music to mine ear."

EVENING:

"He shall save his people from their sins."
-- Matthew 1:21

Many persons, if they are asked what they understand by salvation, will
reply, "Being saved from hell and taken to heaven." This is one result
of salvation, but it is not one tithe of what is contained in that
boon. It is true our Lord Jesus Christ does redeem all his people from
the wrath to come; he saves them from the fearful condemnation which
their sins had brought upon them; but his triumph is far more complete
than this. He saves his people "from their sins." Oh! sweet deliverance
from our worst foes. Where Christ works a saving work, he casts Satan
from his throne, and will not let him be master any longer. No man is a
true Christian if sin reigns in his mortal body. Sin will be in us-it
will never be utterly expelled till the spirit enters glory; but it
will never have dominion. There will be a striving for dominion-a
lusting against the new law and the new spirit which God has
implanted-but sin will never get the upper hand so as to be absolute
monarch of our nature. Christ will be Master of the heart, and sin must
be mortified. The Lion of the tribe of Judah shall prevail, and the
dragon shall be cast out. Professor! is sin subdued in you? If your
life is unholy your heart is unchanged, and if your heart is unchanged
you are an unsaved person. If the Saviour has not sanctified you,
renewed you, given you a hatred of sin and a love of holiness, he has
done nothing in you of a saving character. The grace which does not
make a man better than others is a worthless counterfeit. Christ saves
his people, not in their sins, but from them. "Without holiness no man
shall see the Lord." "Let every one that nameth the name of Christ
depart from iniquity." If not saved from sin, how shall we hope to be
counted among his people. Lord, save me now from all evil, and enable
me to honour my Saviour.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Instantaneous And Insistent Sanctification"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 8, 2008

INSTANTANEOUS AND INSISTENT SANCTIFICATION

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1th+5:23-24&sr=1

When we pray to be sanctified, are we prepared to face the standard
of these verses? We take the term sanctification much too lightly.
Are we prepared for what sanctification will cost? It will cost an
intense narrowing of all our interests on earth, and an immense
broadening of all our interests in God. Sanctification means intense
concentration on God's point of view. It means every power of body,
soul and spirit chained and kept for God's purpose only. Are we
prepared for God to do in us all that He separated us for? And then
after His work is done in us, are we prepared to separate ourselves
to God even as Jesus did? "For their sakes I sanctify Myself." The
reason some of us have not entered into the experience of
sanctification is that we have not realized the meaning of
sanctification from God's standpoint. Sanctification means being made
one with Jesus so that the disposition that ruled Him will rule us.
Are we prepared for what that will cost? It will cost everything that
is not of God in us.

Are we prepared to be caught up into the swing of this prayer of the
apostle Paul's? Are we prepared to say - "Lord, make me as holy as
You can make a sinner saved by grace"? Jesus has prayed that we might
be one with Him as He is one with the Father. The one and only
characteristic of the Holy Ghost in a man is a strong family likeness
to Jesus Christ, and freedom from everything that is unlike Him. Are
we prepared to set ourselves apart for the Holy Spirit's
ministrations in us?

Praying with Paul : "Chosen for Glory"

CHOSEN FOR GLORY

Romans 9:21-24

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+9:21-24

Dear Father, ruler of the ages,

You, O God, are the potter who has the right over the clay to make
of it whatever you please. What if you, desiring to show your wrath
and to make known your power, have endured with much patience the
objects of wrath made for destruction? What if you put up with sin
in order to make known the riches of your glory to the objects of
mercy prepared for glory?

Thank you for selecting your chosen ones from every nation of the
earth. And thank you for preparing your chosen ones to share in
your glory.

Thank you, O holy and mighty God! I am overwhelmed! In the blessed
name of Jesus, the rock of our salvation, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- New Wineskins Needed -- Mark 2:21-22

New Wineskins Needed

"When a person sews a patch over a hole on an old coat, that
person never uses a piece of cloth that is not yet shrunk. If
he does, the patch will {shrink and} pull away from the coat.
Then the hole will be worse. Also, people never pour new wine
into old wine bags. Why? Because the new wine will break the
bags, and the wine will be ruined with the wine bags. People
always put new wine into new wine bags."

-- Mark 2:21-22 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus wants us to know that being his follower is not just another
religious take on the same old religious agenda. Jesus wants us to know
that his words and his way of life are not just another new thing to
tack onto the same religious teaching. Jesus brings something new,
fresh, and comprehensive. To try to mix it into the other religious
interests in our lives is to miss the point. What Jesus brings is
bigger, bolder, and new! Let's realize that to call Jesus our Lord
means we surrender every part of our lives to him ... and that
ultimately means, we surrender the "religious" parts, too.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
LORD God Almighty, I offer you myself -- all of myself, body, soul,
Spirit, and mind -- to serve you. I want you to have complete rule in
my life. Please tear down any idols that I have so that only you reign
in my heart. Open my eyes to see your truth in fresh and new ways. In
Jesus' name. Amen.
