Suffering God’s Judgment on the Cross (1)

Suffering God's Judgment on the Cross (1)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 23:44 And it was now about the sixth hour, and darkness
fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. Isa. 53:10 But
Jehovah was pleased to crush Him, to afflict him with grief.
When He makes Himself an offering for sin, He will see a seed,
He will extend His days. 1 Pet. 3:18 For Christ also has
suffered once for sins, the Righteous on behalf of the
unrighteous.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sixth hour mentioned in verse 44 was, according to our way
of reckoning time, twelve o'clock noon. According to Matthew
27:45, darkness was over all the land from the sixth hour until
the ninth hour, that is, from twelve o'clock noon until three
o'clock in the afternoon. Who caused darkness to come over the
land? Of course, the high priest, Pilate, and the Roman
soldiers were not able to do this. The only one who could cause
darkness to come at noon was God.

This darkness was an indication that the righteous God had come
in to judge the Lord Jesus as our Substitute and Redeemer. He
was the unique, universal Substitute for mankind. From nine
o'clock until noon, He was persecuted by the Jews and Romans as
a martyr. But from noon until three o'clock He was dying not as
a martyr, but as the Substitute for sinners. Because God
recognized Him as our Redeemer, God came in to judge Him. This
means that during the last three hours the Lord was on the
cross, He was judged by God for the accomplishment of our
redemption. It was during this time that God counted Him as our
suffering Substitute for sin (Isa. 53:10). Darkness came over
all the land because our sin and sins and all negative things
were being dealt with. God even forsook Him (Matt. 27:46)
because of our sin.

Actually the Lord's persecutors did not kill Him. While He was
under their persecution, He was still alive. After the Lord
suffered this persecution for three hours, God came in to put
Him to death. The darkness that came over the land was a sign
of God's coming in. Luke tells us that the darkness came over
the whole land, not merely over Jerusalem or Mount Zion. God
caused the sun's light to fail.

Today's Verse : Job 37:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 9, 2007

VERSE:
God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things
beyond our understanding.
-- Job 37:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Job+37:5

THOUGHT:
How does God help us know his will? Clearly God has given us the
Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to help us understand the
Scriptures. What about more subtle and less defined ways? Most of
us have had a "cluster of divine coincidences" (several events in
close proximity to prayer): a friend calls/writes at just the right
time; we read an article or hear a sermon that has a comment or two
directed at just the area of our concern or confusion; several
songs in worship convict us in the area on which we are seeking the
Lord's guidance; or we simply feel a pull on our conscience that
helps us discern right from wrong in a difficult situation. God
really means it when he says that if we will pray for wisdom
without doubting he'll give it to us and that if we are truly
seeking him we will find him. His voice does thunder in marvelous
ways!

PRAYER:
Holy God, please help me discern your will about several
important matters in my life. I don't want to make my decisions
based on my limited human wisdom. Please lead me by your Spirit in
the direction you want me to go and use me to bring you glory and
praise. Thank you for caring about my life enough to show me your
way more clearly. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: 100 Part 4

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. Psalm 100:4 NIV

Thanksgiving: The aspect of praise that gives thanks to God for what He does for us. Ideally, thanksgiving should spring from a grateful heart; but it is required of all believers, regardless of their initial attitude (Nelson's Bible Dictionary)

Praise: An act of worship or acknowledgment by which the virtues or deeds of another are recognized and extolled. Praising God for who He is is called adoration; praising Him for what He does is known as thanksgiving.(Nelson's Bible Dictionary)

Because of who God is, and because He has included us in His plan, making a way for sinful man to reach a Holy God, we should consistently give thanks and praise to God.

I have found that when I wake up in a morning with a smile on my face, confident about God's activity in my life, ready to go wherever He leads, I am far more willing to give thanks and praise than when I wake up with a frown, uncertain of my future, hesitant to step out in faith. There is something about having a positive approach to life which helps us to give thanks and praise. When we are focused on who God is, what He has done and is doing in our life, our attitude will be one of thanksgiving and praise.

How did you wake up this morning? Set your sights on things above, realize that God is in full control, and walk with confidence today each step where He leads. When this is our approach, continual thanksgiving praise will come easily.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Totally Present for Today with a Vision for Tomorrow, by Michele Howe

On any given day, women will be caught daydreaming of tomorrow. Not
that dreaming is a bad exercise; sometimes the most winning plans have
been hatched during these mental "blue sky" wanderings. However, the
kind of musing that hinders, rather than helps, is different. This
troublesome visitor incites disappointment, frustration, and
impatience. It never allows for the beauty of current life to hold
sway. It has a covetous spirit of wishing for something else.

Society places a weighty amount of pressure on women to succeed on many
levels -- this involves both personal and family success as well as
social and professional success. Today, many Christian women
necessarily fill multiple roles, each one vying for her attention and
interest. If she's smart, she'll recognize that today's
responsibilities do not define her life as a whole. Life can change in
an instant, and often does. This realization, coupled with trust that
God is at work in her life (Philippians 2:13), helps a woman embrace
the moment without becoming discouraged that the current circumstances
are unchangeable (Romans 8:28).

There is something to be said for getting into the rhythm of your days.
Viewing all of life as worthwhile, with its seemingly few and far
between glamorous moments along with its more mundane ones, grounds us
in reality and prepares us for the future. Everything we do in the next
twenty-four hours prepares us in some measure for the road ahead.
Whether we long for greatness in some obscure professional field or
simply hanker to excel at gardening, matters little. Our focus, our
intent, must be on giving our all and living in the moment of today,
using the opportunities that God gives us, in whatever direction we
turn our attention.

Sadly, countless women spend precious time wandering mentally into
tomorrow's unknowns -- both the worries and the wishes. This feeds
their feelings of discontent and eventually overrides their good sense.
That's why Jesus warned us, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its
own" (Matthew 6:34 TNIV). It is not that setting goals and pressing
ahead toward growth, improvement and God's intentions for us are wrong
(Philippians 3:12-14). But, we can get so pre-occupied with the future
-- by worry and by wishing -- that we lose sight of today's good and
the opportunities God provides for us to grow, achieve, and change.

Yes, today's difficulties can take a toll. Still, armed with the right
outlook, women can use hardships as stepping-stones toward future
opportunity and success (Philippians 4:13). It's all in the viewpoint
and the end goal. Learning to take everything in its turn enables women
to invest in this day's work while eyeing hopeful possibilities and
God's opportunities. Author David Ireland reminds us that as we seek to
live fully on this given day, "... the destination seems nearer and the
view is more picturesque." It is possible to be totally present in the
now and still have a vision for tomorrow. It is!

The enemies of being totally present in the day and having a vision for
tomorrow, along with some spiritual counter-measures:

Armed with the right outlook, women can use today's hardships as
stepping-stones!

* Exhaustion -- spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical: take care
to daily balance work and rest, seeking God's renewing presence.

* Purposelessness -- spiritual, personal and profession: dream big
and then make practical plans always seeking to honor God.

* Unreasonable expectations -- worrying about uncontrollable
outcomes: be satisfied with doing the best you can and trust God to
be at work in your life.

* Shortsighted Perspectives -- feeling alone and helpless: with God,
today's shortfall isn't the last or final word.

* Selfishness -- wishing for something else: discipline yourself to
look beyond your own wants/needs/desires and think of the way God
has blessed you and can use you to bless others.

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 2:6 and Mark 14:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 8, 2007

MORNING:

"As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord."
-- Colossians 2:6

The life of faith is represented as receiving-an act which implies the
very opposite of anything like merit. It is simply the acceptance of a
gift. As the earth drinks in the rain, as the sea receives the streams,
as night accepts light from the stars, so we, giving nothing, partake
freely of the grace of God. The saints are not, by nature, wells, or
streams, they are but cisterns into which the living water flows; they
are empty vessels into which God pours his salvation. The idea of
receiving implies a sense of realization, making the matter a reality.
One cannot very well receive a shadow; we receive that which is
substantial: so is it in the life of faith, Christ becomes real to us.
While we are without faith, Jesus is a mere name to us-a person who
lived a long while ago, so long ago that his life is only a history to
us now! By an act of faith Jesus becomes a real person in the
consciousness of our heart. But receiving also means grasping or
getting possession of. The thing which I receive becomes my own: I
appropriate to myself that which is given. When I receive Jesus, he
becomes my Saviour, so mine that neither life nor death shall be able
to rob me of him. All this is to receive Christ-to take him as God's
free gift; to realize him in my heart, and to appropriate him as mine.

Salvation may be described as the blind receiving sight, the deaf
receiving hearing, the dead receiving life; but we have not only
received these blessings, we have received CHRIST JESUS himself. It is
true that he gave us life from the dead. He gave us pardon of sin; he
gave us imputed righteousness. These are all precious things, but we
are not content with them; we have received Christ himself. The Son of
God has been poured into us, and we have received him, and appropriated
him. What a heartful Jesus must be, for heaven itself cannot contain
him!

EVENING:

"The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall
eat the passover with my disciples?"
-- Mark 14:14

Jerusalem at the time of the passover was one great inn; each
householder had invited his own friends, but no one had invited the
Saviour, and he had no dwelling of his own. It was by his own
supernatural power that he found himself an upper room in which to keep
the feast. It is so even to this day-Jesus is not received among the
sons of men save only where by his supernatural power and grace he
makes the heart anew. All doors are open enough to the prince of
darkness, but Jesus must clear a way for himself or lodge in the
streets. It was through the mysterious power exerted by our Lord that
the householder raised no question, but at once cheerfully and joyfully
opened his guestchamber. Who he was, and what he was, we do not know,
but he readily accepted the honour which the Redeemer proposed to
confer upon him. In like manner it is still discovered who are the
Lord's chosen, and who are not; for when the gospel comes to some, they
fight against it, and will not have it, but where men receive it,
welcoming it, this is a sure indication that there is a secret work
going on in the soul, and that God has chosen them unto eternal life.
Are you willing, dear reader, to receive Christ? then there is no
difficulty in the way; Christ will be your guest; his own power is
working with you, making you willing. What an honour to entertain the
Son of God! The heaven of heavens cannot contain him, and yet he
condescends to find a house within our hearts! We are not worthy that
he should come under our roof, but what an unutterable privilege when
he condescends to enter! for then he makes a feast, and causes us to
feast with him upon royal dainties, we sit at a banquet where the
viands are immortal, and give immortality to those who feed thereon.
Blessed among the sons of Adam is he who entertains the angels' Lord.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Unrivalled Power Of Prayer"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 8, 2007

THE UNRIVALLED POWER OF PRAYER

We know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the
Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered.

Romans 8:26

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+8:26&sr=1

We realize that we are energized by the Holy Spirit for prayer; we
know what it is to pray in the Spirit; but we do not so often realize
that the Holy Spirit Himself prays in us prayers which we cannot
utter. When we are born again of God and are indwelt by the Spirit of
God, He expresses for us the unutterable.

"He," the Spirit in you, "maketh intercession for the saints
according to the will of God," and God searches your heart not to
know what your conscious prayers are, but to find out what is the
prayer of the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit of God needs the nature of the believer as a shrine in
which to offer His intercession. "Your body is the temple of the Holy
Ghost." When Jesus Christ cleansed the temple, He "would not suffer
that any man should carry any vessel through the temple." The Spirit
of God will not allow you to use your body for your own convenience.
Jesus ruthlessly cast out all them that sold and bought in the
temple, and said - "My house shall be called the house of prayer; but
ye have made it a den of thieves."

Have we recognized that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost? If
so, we must be careful to keep it undefiled for Him. We have to
remember that our conscious life, though it is only a tiny bit of our
personality, is to be regarded by us as a shrine of the Holy Ghost.
He will look atter the unconscious part that we know nothing of; but
we must see that we guard the conscious part for which we are
responsible.

Praying with Paul : "Submission"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

SUBMISSION

Ephesians 5:21-6:9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+5:21-6:9

Dear Father,

Help all of us who reverence Christ to be submissive to each
other, even as he submitted himself to the people about him so that
he could be their servant-king.

Help wives and husbands submit to each other. Help wives to be
respectful. Help husbands to be loving and considerate.

Help parents and children submit to each other. Help children to
obey their parents. Help parents to act in the best interest of
their children, not provoking them.

Help employers and employees submit to each other. Help employees
render the work for which they are paid. Help employers to be fair,
to show kindness.

Help all your people everywhere to live even as Jesus did.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

WJD! -- Well Done! -- Luke 19:15-19

Well Done!

"But the man became king. When he came home, he said, 'Call
those servants that have my money. I want to know how much
more money they earned with it.' The first servant came and
said, 'Sir, I earned ten bags of money with the one bag you
gave me!' The king said to the servant, 'Fine! You are a good
servant. I see that I can trust you with small things. So now
I will let you rule over ten of my cities!' The second
servant said, 'Sir, with your one bag of money I earned five
bags!' The king said to this servant, 'You can rule over five
cities!'"

-- Luke 19:15-19 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Such sweet words are these to hear! Another translation puts it, "Well
done, my good servant!" (TNIV) God longs to give us his blessing and
praise. He showed us this at his Son's baptism, "You are my beloved
Son, and I am fully pleased with you." God does not forget our works
done to honor him and he always notices the effort made in our
stewardship. So know that even if no one else notices your efforts to
honor God, you can be assured that he notices them and is blessed.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, may all I do bring you joy, honor, and praise. Thank you for
reassuring me that my efforts to honor you are not in vain. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
