Mustard Seed Thoughts: Start NOW

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Start NOW
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. Men of Galiilee they said, why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven. Acts 1:10-11 NIV

Jesus had given the command, He had left behind His helper, He had left the physical presence of the disciples, and it was then time to get to work.

Have you ever had a project to do and you just couldnt force yourself to get started? I needed to clean my garage. After the sale of our business, my wife and I brought home a half-garage full of boxes of stuff we had gathered over the years. Those boxes faced us everytime we went into the garage. They were always in the way. Those boxes even kept us from parking our car in the garage during the winter months. Still, I just couldnt seem to get motivated to going through the boxes. When I finally did, it wasnt as big of a job as I had anticipated.

The disciples knew what they were to do, but somehow, they just couldnt take their eyes off the sky. Jesus was gone. The physical presence of their Savior was no longer among them. They had worked to do, but for some reason, they needed some encouragement. The angel came and reminded them that Jesus was coming again, just as He had promised. In the meantime, they had an assignement.

Often when someone is mourning the loss of a loved one to death or the break-up of a relationshiop, or any other tragic loss for that matter, they will tend to shut down emotionally. Instead of vibrantly serving God, they continue to mourn their loss. Granted, there is a time for mourning, and it should not be rushed, but there comes a time also when the mourner has to get on with life, because there is much to be done here on earth. If you are breathing today God still has a definite purpose for your life. Maybe this is t he encouragement God wants to bring your way today to quit staring into space, and get busy! Jesus is coming soon and there is work to be done!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

I'll Be Happy When?, by Russ Lawson

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get
married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the
kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are.
After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.
We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell
ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his
or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we are able to
go on a nice vacation or when we retire. The truth is there's no
better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life
will always be filled with challenges. (My friend Jerrie sent me
this. I thought I would expand on it a touch.)

When you talk to most of the folks my age, sooner or later, the subject
of retirement comes up as does talk of what they plan to do when they
retire. The thought is that when they no longer have to worry about
going to work, then things will be different, and then they will have
time to do the things that really make them happy.

While thinking about this, I remembered what Jesus said, "Therefore do
not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each
day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:34 NIV). I know we are
not necessarily considering worry, but also being happy with your life.
I believe the principle is basically the same. Also, notice what James
wrote.

"Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or
that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.'
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your
life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then
vanishes" (James 4:13-14).

"What is keeping me from being happy?"

Perhaps the question we need to ask ourselves is, "What is keeping me
from being happy?" Am I waiting for some future event that I think will
change everything, make everything better, or make things different? Am
I waiting for someone else to change their life, their attitudes, their
likes or dislikes, believing that will make me happy?

The psalmist gives us some insight into finding happiness when he tells
us, "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is
in the LORD his God" (Psalms 146:5).

Where is your hope? Where do you try to find happiness? True hope and
happiness is based on and found in our relationship with our Lord.

May God grant you true happiness this day and forever!

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 2:9, and Hebrews 12:11

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 18, 2009

MORNING:

"In him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye
are complete in him."
-- Colossians 2:9,

All the attributes of Christ, as God and man, are at our disposal. All
the fulness of the Godhead, whatever that marvellous term may
comprehend, is ours to make us complete. He cannot endow us with the
attributes of Deity; but he has done all that can be done, for he has
made even his divine power and Godhead subservient to our salvation.
His omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, immutability and
infallibility, are all combined for our defence. Arise, believer, and
behold the Lord Jesus yoking the whole of his divine Godhead to the
chariot of salvation! How vast his grace, how firm his faithfulness,
how unswerving his immutability, how infinite his power, how limitless
his knowledge! All these are by the Lord Jesus made the pillars of the
temple of salvation; and all, without diminution of their infinity, are
covenanted to us as our perpetual inheritance. The fathomless love of
the Saviour's heart is every drop of it ours; every sinew in the arm of
might, every jewel in the crown of majesty, the immensity of divine
knowledge, and the sternness of divine justice, all are ours, and shall
be employed for us. The whole of Christ, in his adorable character as
the Son of God, is by himself made over to us most richly to enjoy. His
wisdom is our direction, his knowledge our instruction, his power our
protection, his justice our surety, his love our comfort, his mercy our
solace, and his immutability our trust. He makes no reserve, but opens
the recesses of the Mount of God and bids us dig in its mines for the
hidden treasures. "All, all, all are yours," saith he, "be ye satisfied
with favour and full of the goodness of the Lord." Oh! how sweet thus
to behold Jesus, and to call upon him with the certain confidence that
in seeking the interposition of his love or power, we are but asking
for that which he has already faithfully promised.

EVENING:

"Afterward."
-- Hebrews 12:11

How happy are tried Christians, afterwards. No calm more deep than that
which succeeds a storm. Who has not rejoiced in clear shinings after
rain? Victorious banquets are for well-exercised soldiers. After
killing the lion we eat the honey; after climbing the Hill Difficulty,
we sit down in the arbour to rest; after traversing the Valley of
Humiliation, after fighting with Apollyon, the shining one appears,
with the healing branch from the tree of life. Our sorrows, like the
passing keels of the vessels upon the sea, leave a silver line of holy
light behind them "afterwards." It is peace, sweet, deep peace, which
follows the horrible turmoil which once reigned in our tormented,
guilty souls. See, then, the happy estate of a Christian! He has his
best things last, and he therefore in this world receives his worst
things first. But even his worst things are "afterward" good things,
harsh ploughings yielding joyful harvests. Even now he grows rich by
his losses, he rises by his falls, he lives by dying, and becomes full
by being emptied; if, then, his grievous afflictions yield him so much
peaceable fruit in this life, what shall be the full vintage of joy
"afterwards" in heaven? If his dark nights are as bright as the world's
days, what shall his days be? If even his starlight is more splendid
than the sun, what must his sunlight be? If he can sing in a dungeon,
how sweetly will he sing in heaven! If he can praise the Lord in the
fires, how will he extol him before the eternal throne! If evil be good
to him now, what will the overflowing goodness of God be to him then?
Oh, blessed "afterward!" Who would not be a Christian? Who would not
bear the present cross for the crown which cometh afterwards? But
herein is work for patience, for the rest is not for to-day, nor the
triumph for the present, but "afterward." Wait, O soul, and let
patience have her perfect work.

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+6:26,28&sr=1

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they simply are!
Think of the sea, the air, the sun, the stars and the moon - all
these are, and what a ministration they exert. So often we mar God's
designed influence through us by our self-conscious effort to be
consistent and useful. Jesus says that there is only one way to
develop spiritually, and that is by concentration on God. "Do not
bother about being of use to others; believe on Me" - pay attention
to the Source, and out of you will flow rivers of living water. We
cannot get at the springs of our natural life by common sense, and
Jesus is teaching that growth in spiritual life does not depend on
our watching it, but on concentration on our Father in heaven. Our
heavenly Father knows the circumstances we are in, and if we keep
concentrated on Him we will grow spiritually as the lilies.

The people who influence us most are not those who buttonhole us and
talk to us, but those who live their lives like the stars in heaven
and the lilies in the field, perfectly simply and unaffectedly. Those
are the lives that mould us.

If you want to be of use to God, get rightly related to Jesus Christ
and He will make you of use unconsciously every minute you live.

Praying with Paul : "Christ, Our Yes"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRIST, OUR YES

2 Corinthians 1:12-20
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+1:12-20

Amen! Yes! Abba, Dear Father,

Let me find pride in this - that my conscience testifies that I
live my life in this world with holiness and godly sincerity, not
by earthly wisdom but by your graciousness.

Help me not to vacillate as I make my plans. Don't let me be like
those who are worldly, ready to say "Yes" and "No" at the same
time, talking out of both sides of their mouth.

As surely as you, God, are faithful, let me act in good faith
toward others. For your Son, Jesus Christ, in whom I believe by the
preaching of the Good News, was not Yes and No, but was Yes! For
all your promises find your Yes through him. So through him we
utter the Yes, the Amen, at the close of our prayers - to your
glory.

In the name of Jesus I ask this and utter my Yes! my Amen!
according to his will. Yes! Amen!

WJD! -- What Were You Looking For? -- Matthew 11:7-8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/

What Were You Looking For?

While John's followers were leaving, Jesus began talking to
the people about John. Jesus said, "What did you people go
out to the desert to see? A weed blown by the wind? No!
Really, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine
clothes? No! Those people that wear fine clothes live in
king's palaces."

-- Matthew 11:7-8 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' response to John's disciples did not imply that Jesus thought
poorly of John, his ministry, or his faith. What John cared most about
was God's will and God's coming Kingdom. He was not swayed by public
opinion or the desire for personal acceptance. John was not concerned
about making a fashion statement or having an easy life. John's
clothing, location, and faithfulness to God's truth all indicate he
fits in the traditions of the Old Testament prophets. Even more than
that, John is willing to give up his life to prepare the way for the
Messiah and to speak the truth to everyone, even King Herod. John was
God's messenger, for a special time, in answer to special prophetic
messages, and for a special audience hungering for God's word. For us,
John stands as a great reminder of two important truths: 1 - truth is
more important than life, and 2 - greatness is found in service to God.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Gracious Father, please give me the courage to speak your truth in
love, to stand for what is right no matter the opposition or the
popular opinion, and to serve you without regard to my situation in
life. I want to live my life for your Kingdom and not for myself. To
you belong all glory, honor, and praise for your Kingdom and mercy and
might! In Jesus name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Philippians 1:19

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 18, 2009

VERSE:
I know that through your prayers and the help given by the
Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for
my deliverance.
-- Philippians 1:19
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+1:19

THOUGHT:
Paul is possibly facing death. Yet he knows that his life, his
future, is securely in the Lord's hands. The Holy Spirit will help
empower him to be what he needs to be in the face of persecution
and hardship. The Spirit will also work for his deliverance; either
he will be delivered from prison and death to serve others, or he
will be delivered into the presence of the Lord he loves. Either
way, he awaits and expects deliverance!

PRAYER:
O LORD, God Almighty, please give me the courage to never waiver
in my confidence in your deliverance. In addition, dear Father, I
have several beloved friends who are fighting for their lives with
physical problems. Please bless them with your deliverance, whether
it is your healing that restores their health or your grace that
insures their future is with you and your triumphant Son, Jesus, in
whose name I pray. Amen.
