Today's Verse : Psalm 69:30

November 30, 2007

VERSE:
I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with
thanksgiving.
-- Psalm 69:30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+69:30

THOUGHT:
When was the last time you sang praises to God outside a church
or devotional service? Why not open up the Psalms and find several
verses that reflect your own praise and thanks to God and give them
a tune -- your own tune! God doesn't care if your spiritual gift is
music or not; he's just listening for your heart to be full of joy
as you share your praise and thanksgiving with him.

PRAYER:
O gracious Father, giver of every good and perfect gift, forgive
me for relegating my thanksgiving and praise to special days and
special places. I praise you for creating your human children with
the capacity to celebrate goodness, to rejoice in your creation,
and to have the capacity for praise and thanksgiving. Thank you for
making our world so full of reasons to offer thanks to you, our
Abba Father and Creator. As you continually fill me with your
Spirit, may my heart overflow with songs of praise and words of
thanksgiving. In Jesus' holy name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Pray 4

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Matthew 6:8 NIV

If He already knows what I need, then why do I have to pray? Have you ever heard that question?

It's a good question. God is Sovereign, and He does have a master plan of which He is currently seeing to completion. If you are a Christian, then God's ultimate will for you is that you be like His Son Jesus. God is directing activity in your life towards that end achievement. If that's true, then why should I pray? Aren't we going to end up in the same place anyway?

To me, this aspect of prayer is one of the greatest. God, who is infinitely wiser than you and I will ever be, wants to dialogue with us. Does He need to dialogue with us? No, but He wants to! Does that make you feel special? It should.

What difference does prayer make? Well, within those things which are sovereignly decreed by God, you and I cannot change things. For example, God is going to bring His Son Jesus back to judge the world, and no amount of prayer is going to change His mind on that. There is, however, many ways God can accomplish His ultimate will. So, prayer may play a role in altering our lives within God's sovereign will. God may indeed grant us the desires of our heart while still maintaining His sovereign will of conforming us to the image of Christ.

The Bible says that God will meet "all your needs according to His richness in Christ Jesus". God already knows your needs and His plan is working to meet those needs. Prayer is the relationship we have with God by which He begins to share His heart with us and transform our will to His will. As we grow in the activity of prayer, over time we will begin to see more prayers answered because God's will and our will begin to look the same.

Oh, Lord, teach us to pray.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

My Strength Is in the Lord, by Russ Lawson

When you speak of strength you really have to be specific. We often
speak of physical strength and spiritual strength using the same words.
How do you define strength? Someone has defined strength in this way:
"Strength is the capacity to break a chocolate bar into four pieces
with your bare hands and then eat just one piece."

That is a humorous definition because so few people have that kind of
strength. However, what most people really want is the strength to live
and deal with the problems "daily living" brings to us. Of course, we
all know that the only way to receive this strength is to give up our
lives for God. It comes when we finally understand that we are only
living a temporary life here that DOES NOT LAST. Our strength comes
from the Lord when we stop trying to fight our battles on our own, and
then allow God to lift us up and protect us.

When is the last time you really turned your life over to God? When is
the last time you cried out to him and said, "I can't do it on my own,
I need your strength!"? King David knew the secret of finding strength
in the Lord. He wrote, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my
deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield
and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold" (Psalm 18:2).

The great servant of God, Isaiah wrote, "Trust ye in the LORD for ever:
for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength" (Isaiah 26:4 KJV). A
modern translation puts it this way: "Trust in the LORD forever, for
the LORD, is the Rock eternal" (NLT).

When we can do that, we are like the house that withstood the storm
Jesus talked about in his famous parable (Matthew 7:24-27). We are
grounded and built upon God as the "firm foundation" of our lives.

Do you want more strength?

David put it this way: "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart
trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give
thanks to him in song" (Psalm 28:7 NIV). When is the last time you
burst into song because of the Lord's blessings in your life or in
realization that the Lord of the universe cares for you? You can do it
anywhere at any time, I started singing praise songs this morning on my
drive to work. Why? It just felt like it, I wanted to praise God!

I know that concept may be a little foreign to you right now -- you may
not feel much like singing. You may have the weight of many problems on
your heart. However, as the wisdom of the old folk proverb says, "Life
isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance
in the rain." You may not feel much like dancing either, but how about
trying to sing a hymn of praise or worship to God? No one has to hear
you except the One who counts the most, our Heavenly Father.

You may look at all these great people of faith we've quoted and want
to say, "I wish I could be more like them -- I want to have their faith
and their strength!" But believe me, the lives of others are not at all
what they appear on the outside. Each of God's great servants had to
struggle with some issue, problem, or challenge that we wouldn't wish
on someone else. The secret of these servants, however, is that they do
a good job of either hiding their problems or turning them over to God.

Do you want more strength? It comes only when you exercise. This is
especially true when we are talking about spiritual strength. So isn't
it time you start to exercise that faith more by trusting to God and
letting His strength lift you up! Praise, song, and thanks help us do
that! Let's let our strength be found in the Lord!

Morning & Evening -- Leviticus 19:16, and Exodus 35:8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 29, 2007

MORNING:

"Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy
people ... Thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and
not suffer sin upon him."
-- Leviticus 19:16,

Tale-bearing emits a threefold poison; for it injures the teller, the
hearer, and the person concerning whom the tale is told. Whether the
report be true or false, we are by this precept of God's Word forbidden
to spread it. The reputations of the Lord's people should be very
precious in our sight, and we should count it shame to help the devil
to dishonour the Church and the name of the Lord. Some tongues need a
bridle rather than a spur. Many glory in pulling down their brethren,
as if thereby they raised themselves. Noah's wise sons cast a mantle
over their father, and he who exposed him earned a fearful curse. We
may ourselves one of these dark days need forbearance and silence from
our brethren, let us render it cheerfully to those who require it now.
Be this our family rule, and our personal bond-SPEAK EVIL OF NO MAN.

The Holy Spirit, however, permits us to censure sin, and prescribes the
way in which we are to do it. It must be done by rebuking our brother
to his face, not by railing behind his back. This course is manly,
brotherly, Christlike, and under God's blessing will be useful. Does
the flesh shrink from it? Then we must lay the greater stress upon our
conscience, and keep ourselves to the work, lest by suffering sin upon
our friend we become ourselves partakers of it. Hundreds have been
saved from gross sins by the timely, wise, affectionate warnings of
faithful ministers and brethren. Our Lord Jesus has set us a gracious
example of how to deal with erring friends in his warning given to
Peter, the prayer with which he preceded it, and the gentle way in
which he bore with Peter's boastful denial that he needed such a
caution.

EVENING:

"Spices for anointing oil."
-- Exodus 35:8

Much use was made of this anointing oil under the law, and that which
it represents is of primary importance under the gospel. The Holy
Spirit, who anoints us for all holy service, is indispensable to us if
we would serve the Lord acceptably. Without his aid our religious
services are but a vain oblation, and our inward experience is a dead
thing. Whenever our ministry is without unction, what miserable stuff
it becomes! nor are the prayers, praises, meditations, and efforts of
private Christians one jot superior. A holy anointing is the soul and
life of piety, its absence the most grievous of all calamities. To go
before the Lord without anointing is as though some common Levite had
thrust himself into the priest's office-his ministrations would rather
have been sins than services. May we never venture upon hallowed
exercises without sacred anointings. They drop upon us from our
glorious Head; from his anointing we who are as the skirts of his
garments partake of a plenteous unction. Choice spices were compounded
with rarest art of the apothecary to form the anointing oil, to show
forth to us how rich are all the influences of the Holy Spirit. All
good things are found in the divine Comforter. Matchless consolation,
infallible instruction, immortal quickening, spiritual energy, and
divine sanctification all lie compounded with other excellencies in
that sacred eye-salve, the heavenly anointing oil of the Holy Spirit.
It imparts a delightful fragrance to the character and person of the
man upon whom it is poured. Nothing like it can be found in all the
treasuries of the rich, or the secrets of the wise. It is not to be
imitated. It comes alone from God, and it is freely given, through
Jesus Christ, to every waiting soul. Let us seek it, for we may have
it, may have it this very evening. O Lord, anoint thy servants.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Absoluteness Of Jesus Christ"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 29, 2007

THE ABSOLUTENESS OF JESUS CHRIST

He shall glorify Me.

John 16:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+16:14&sr=1

The pietistic movements of to-day have none of the rugged reality of
the New Testament about them; there is nothing about them that needs
the Death of Jesus Christ; all that is required is a pious
atmosphere, and prayer and devotion. This type of experience is not
supernatural nor miraculous, it did not cost the passion of God, it
is not dyed in the blood of the Lamb, not stamped with the hall-mark
of the Holy Ghost; it has not that mark on it which makes men say, as
they look with awe and wonder - "That is the work of God Almighty."
That and nothing else is what the New Testament talks about.

The type of Christian experience in the New Testament is that of
personal passionate devotion to the Person of Jesus Christ. Every
other type of Christian experience, so called, is detached from the
Person of Jesus. There is no regeneration, no being born again into
the Kingdom in which Christ lives, but only the idea that He is our
Pattern. In the New Testament Jesus Christ is Saviour long before He
is Pattern. To-day He is being despatched as the Figurehead of a
Religion, a mere Example. He is that, but He is infinitely more; He
is salvation itself, He is the Gospel of God.

Jesus said, "When He the Spirit of truth is come . . . He shall
glorify Me." When I commit myself to the revelation made in the New
Testament, I receive from God the gift of the Holy Spirit Who begins
to interpret to me what Jesus did and does in me subjectively all
that Jesus Christ did for me objectively.

Praying with Paul : "Rejoice! and Pray!"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

REJOICE! AND PRAY!

Philippians 4:4-7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+4:4-7

Dear Father, forbearing God,

Let me rejoice in the Lord always! Again I ask this from you: Let
me rejoice always!

Let me be gentle, open to reason, slow to make negative judgments.

Let this forbearing spirit be apparent to everyone.

I know the Lord Jesus is near, so I have no reason to be anxious
about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, let me present my requests to you.

I believe in you, Father, a God who transcends all human
understanding.

I believe that the peace which comes from you, which transcends
all understanding, will keep my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus.

In the name of the ever-near Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- Stay Alert! -- Luke 21:34-36

Stay Alert!

"Be careful! Don't spend your time drinking and getting
drunk. Or don't be too busy with worldly things. If you do
that, you will not be able to think right. And then the end
might come when you are not ready. It will come like a
surprise to all people on earth. So be ready all the time.
Pray that you will be strong enough to continue safely
through all these things that will happen. And pray that you
will be able to stand before the Son of Man."

-- Luke 21:34-36 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus repeatedly warned his disciples during the latter part of his
ministry to stay alert and be ready for his return. But what does being
ready mean? Does it mean knowing the exact time of his return -- the
day or the hour? No, we can't know that. So what does it mean? It means
to live with faithful vigilance, expectation, and hope for Jesus'
return. He stands near and can return at any time.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous Father, the Eternal God and Creator of the universe,
work in me your righteous will to make me ready for your Son's glorious
return. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
