=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

I Don't Want Them to Change Me!, by Alan Smith

Elie Wiesel was brought up in a closely knit Jewish community in
Sighet, Transylvania (Romania). When he was fifteen years old, his
family was herded aboard a train and deported by Nazis to the Auschwitz
death camp. Wiesel's mother and younger sister died at Auschwitz -- his
two older sisters survived. Wiesel and his father were then taken to
Buchenwald, where his father also perished. Wiesel has devoted his life
to ensuring that the world does not forget the atrocities of the Nazis,
and that they are not repeated. He tells this story:

A just man decided he must save humanity. So he chose a city, the
most sinful of all cities. Then he studied. He learned all the art
of moving people, changing minds, changing hearts. He came to a man
and woman and said, "Don't forget that murder is not good, it is
wrong." In the beginning, people gathered around him. It was so
strange, somewhat like a circus. They gathered and they listened.
He went on and on and on.

Days passed. Weeks passed. After a while, they stopped listening.
After many years passed, a child stopped him and said, "What are
you doing? Don't you see nobody is listening? Why do you continue
shouting and shouting? Why?"

And the man answered the child, "I'll tell you why. In the
beginning, I was convinced that if I were to shout loud enough,
they would change. Now I know they won't change. But if I shout
even louder, it's because I don't want them to change me."

It's a constant battle.

We live in a world where there is a battle going on. I'm not talking
about the conflict in Iraq or Afghanistan or Kenya. You may not even be
aware that this battle is taking place, but I assure you that it is. It
is a spiritual battle being waged between God and his people and Satan
and his people (Ephesians 6:12). It is a battle for the control of the
hearts and minds of men and women, including you and the people around
you.

We sometimes use the word "evangelism" to describe our attempt to
influence ungodly people in a way that will draw them to God, the God
who created them and loves them. But, we sometimes forget that efforts
-- sometimes diligent efforts -- are being made by ungodly forces to
pull us away from God. Be assured of this: One of two things is
happening, either you are having an influence on other people or other
people are having an influence on you. It's a constant battle, much
like a tug-of-war.

And there are times, as in the story above, when we need to speak up or
take some action, not so much to change others, but to prevent others
from changing us.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,
which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you
may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God
(Romans 12:1-2 NKJV).

Morning & Evening -- 2 Corinthians 5:21 and Isaiah 2:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 4, 2008

MORNING:

"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that
we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:21

Mourning Christian! why weepest thou? Art thou mourning over thine own
corruptions? Look to thy perfect Lord, and remember, thou art complete
in him; thou art in God's sight as perfect as if thou hadst never
sinned; nay, more than that, the Lord our Righteousness hath put a
divine garment upon thee, so that thou hast more than the righteousness
of man-thou hast the righteousness of God. O thou who art mourning by
reason of inbred sin and depravity, remember, none of thy sins can
condemn thee. Thou hast learned to hate sin; but thou hast learned also
to know that sin is not thine-it was laid upon Christ's head. Thy
standing is not in thyself-it is in Christ; thine acceptance is not in
thyself, but in thy Lord; thou art as much accepted of God to-day, with
all thy sinfulness, as thou wilt be when thou standest before his
throne, free from all corruption. O, I beseech thee, lay hold on this
precious thought, perfection in Christ! For thou art "complete in him."
With thy Saviour's garment on, thou art holy as the Holy one. "Who is
he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen
again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh
intercession for us." Christian, let thy heart rejoice, for thou art
"accepted in the beloved"-what hast thou to fear? Let thy face ever
wear a smile; live near thy Master; live in the suburbs of the
Celestial City; for soon, when thy time has come, thou shalt rise up
where thy Jesus sits, and reign at his right hand; and all this because
the divine Lord "was made to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we
might be made the righteousness of God in him."

EVENING:

"Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord."
-- Isaiah 2:3

It is exceedingly beneficial to our souls to mount above this present
evil world to something nobler and better. The cares of this world and
the deceitfulness of riches are apt to choke everything good within us,
and we grow fretful, desponding, perhaps proud and carnal. It is well
for us to cut down these thorns and briers, for heavenly seed sown
among them is not likely to yield a harvest; and where shall we find a
better sickle with which to cut them down than communion with God and
the things of the kingdom? In the valleys of Switzerland many of the
inhabitants are deformed, and all wear a sickly appearance, for the
atmosphere is charged with miasma, and is close and stagnant; but up
yonder, on the mountain, you find a hardy race, who breathe the clear
fresh air as it blows from the virgin snows of the Alpine summits. It
would be well if the dwellers in the valley could frequently leave
their abodes among the marshes and the fever mists, and inhale the
bracing element upon the hills. It is to such an exploit of climbing
that I invite you this evening. May the Spirit of God assist us to
leave the mists of fear and the fevers of anxiety, and all the ills
which gather in this valley of earth, and to ascend the mountains of
anticipated joy and blessedness. May God the Holy Spirit cut the cords
that keep us here below, and assist us to mount! We sit too often like
chained eagles fastened to the rock, only that, unlike the eagle, we
begin to love our chain, and would, perhaps, if it came really to the
test, be loath to have it snapped. May God now grant us grace, if we
cannot escape from the chain as to our flesh, yet to do so as to our
spirits; and leaving the body, like a servant, at the foot of the hill,
may our soul, like Abraham, attain the top of the mountain, there to
indulge in communion with the Most High.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Those Borders Of Distrust"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 4, 2008

THOSE BORDERS OF DISTRUST

Behold, the hour cometh ... that ye shall be scattered.

John 16:32

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+16:32&sr=1

Jesus is not rebuking the disciples, their faith was real, but it was
disturbed; it was not at work in actual things. The disciples were
scattered to their own interests, alive to interests that never were
in Jesus Christ. After we have been perfectly related to God in
sanctification, our faith has to be worked out in actualities. We
shall be scattered, not into work, but into inner desolations and
made to know what internal death to God's blessings means. Are we
prepared for this? It is not that we choose it, but that God
engineers our circumstances so that we are brought there. Until we
have been through that experience, our faith is bolstered up by
feelings and by blessings. When once we get there, no matter where
God places us or what the inner desolations are, we can praise God
that all is well. That is faith being worked out in actualities.

". . . and shall leave Me alone." Have we left Jesus alone by the
scattering of His providence? Because we do not see God in our
circumstances? Darkness comes by the sovereignty of God. Are we
prepared to let God do as He likes with us - prepared to be separated
from conscious blessings? Until Jesus Christ is Lord, we all have
ends of our own to serve; our faith is real, but it is not permanent
yet. God is never in a hurry; if we wait, we shall see that God is
pointing out that we have not been interested in Himself but only in
His blessings. The sense of God's blessing is elemental.

"Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Spiritual grit is what
we need.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Free Concert Tickets

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Free Concert Tickets
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17 NIV

Are you feeling a little down lately? Is the world tossing you harder stuff than you can stand up against? Do you feel inadequate, unloved, or overwhelmed? Has life thrown some lousy junk your way? I may have the perfect remedy for the tough life blues! How about attending a concert! There is nothing like a good music fest to cheer up a broken heart.

Whose on stage, you ask? None other than the Creator, God Himself. He wants to invite you to His next gig. In fact, He's appearing right now. You don't even need a ticket, just drop a name at the door. The name is Jesus!

I'm sorry. I don't mean to sound irreverent. As I read this verse, speaking of God singing over me, I couldn't help imaging up a concert of God. I can't even fathom what the posters would look like!

I like the mental picture I get of God, the One who set the stars in place and counts each grain of sand, singing over me. Another image I see is that of a father, gently rocking his newborn child, as he softly sings a lullaby. Can you see the love? Can you sense the warmth? Can you feel the strength?

Read that verse again, placing your name where appropriate: "The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

Praying with Paul : "My Body an Instrument"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

MY BODY AN INSTRUMENT

1 Corinthians 6:14-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+6:14-20

Dear Father, powerful and holy God,

This body of mine is not just temporary, meant for the decay of
the grave. You have promised to redeem it, to make it glorious like
Christ's. It will be my instrument to glorify you throughout
eternity. Let me use it with that thought in mind.

Surely you, God, who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead by your
power, will also raise my body by your power. Make me ever aware
that my body is a member of Christ's body. Shall I take the members
of Christ's body and join it with a prostitute? Never! How can I
become one body with someone who is evil when I am one spirit with
the Lord?

Help me to shun immorality, which, unlike other sin, is against my
own body. I consecrate my body as a temple of the Holy Spirit,
which I have received from you. Help me to know that I am not my
own but that I am bought with a price, the precious blood of Jesus,
and so let me glorify you in my body.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- Just Asleep -- Mark 5:38-39

Just Asleep

Jesus and these followers went to the house of Jairus, the
synagogue leader. Jesus saw many people there crying loudly.
There was much confusion. Jesus entered the house and said to
the people, "Why are you people crying and making so much
noise? This child is not dead. She is only sleeping."

-- Mark 5:38-39 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
One of the ways early Christians spoke of the death of a believer was
to say that they had "fallen asleep." While I am not sure they had this
encounter with Jesus in mind when they used the term, it is easy to see
how they could have made the connection. In the presence of Jesus,
death becomes mere sleep as believers await the dawn of their Lord's
glorious and triumphant coming.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O LORD God, thank you for sending your Son to destroy the power of
death over us. Help me to truly believe that at its worst, death is no
more than a peaceful sleep until we are awakened with the dawn of your
Son's return. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Galatians 4:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 4, 2008

VERSE:
But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a
woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might
receive the full rights of sons.
-- Galatians 4:4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+4:4

THOUGHT:
Wow! What a rich passage full of many wonderful thoughts. Let's
put it in cornbread English so that we can not only read it, we can
also believe it. God made history ready for a savior and then sent
his Son. That Son had to deal with all the difficulties of the Law
and faced all the frailties of being a human. Our Father bought our
freedom at the terrible cost of his Son's life on a cross in front
of a mob that was jeering and jealous of his popularity. He did
this so that you and I could be his honored children, entitled to
all of his wonderful inheritance. To put it succinctly: God's plan,
God's Son, God's ransom, Our glory.

PRAYER:
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for all the pain it caused you to
send Jesus and to see him persecuted, ridiculed, and crucified.
Thank you for redeeming me from my sinful condition, for buying me
out of the death that would have been the consequence of my sins,
and for giving me the gift of freedom and family. To you belongs
all glory, honor, and praise for your marvelous grace. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
