VERSE:
I pray ... also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened
in order that you may know ... his incomparably great power for us
who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,
which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead...
-- Ephesians 1:17-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+1:17-20

THOUGHT:
I still don't understand resurrection. I get the concept. I
believe God did raise Jesus. Every once in a while, I experience
that power through the Spirit's work in my life strengthening me
for ministry, helping me love others in tough situations,
comforting me when I'm broken, giving me insight when I study the
Word, and strengthening me in the face of temptation. I am humbled,
thrilled, and left longing for more. I want others I love to
experience this awesome power. I'm sure it's the same with you. So
let's join together today, thousands of us all around world, and
let's pray for God to empower those closest to us to discover his
power and to do great things through his Spirit who lives in them.

PRAYER:
Loving God, Almighty Father, please empower me today to live for
you in glorious and wonderful ways. But Father, I don't just pray
that I may do this, please empower those that I love to live for
you. (Add the specific names of folks you want God to bless in this
way.) May we all know that the power in us tore away the bars of
death that held Jesus captive. May we experience this transforming
power and use it to your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Big City Thrill

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Big City Thrill
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Once when Jesus was praying in private and His disciples were with Him, He asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?" Luke 9:18 NIV

I love big cities. I spent the weekend in Chicago recently. When I think of crowds, I easily think of Chicago or New York, another big city I love. I think of Macy's at Christmas...now that's a crowd.

I found myself on one occassion, as I rode the escalator to one of the many floors of the shopper's paradise, wondering what all the crowds were thinking. As they were buying "Christmas" presents I wondered if they had a clue who was to be the guest of honor at this birthday party.

Lately I've been going to a lot of basketball gamea. Guess what? More crowds!I wonder the same thing. I wonder if they will know who the Christ is.

You know what, I'm not sure. I don't really know what the crowds are thinking, or saying. And, in fact, the responses are probably much like the disciples gave to Jesus. "Some say a great man, others a prophet, still others a Savior."

If you know the story, then you also know that Jesus asked another question, and I think this question was what Jesus really wanted to know. He asked, "Who do YOU say that I am?"

That is the question whose answer determines Heaven or Hell. That is the life or death question. That is the question of the day; any day.

Because what you do with Jesus will determine your eternity!

No matter what the crowds may say!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Get Rich Quick?, by Alan Smith

Linda was on vacation playing the slot machines. It was her first
time in a casino, and she wasn't sure how the machines operated.
"Excuse me," she said to a casino employee. "How does this work?"
The worker showed her how to insert a bill, hit the spin button,
and operate the release handle. "And where does the money come
out?" she asked.

He smiled and motioned to a far wall before saying, "Usually at the
ATM."

That's the trouble with gambling and other "get rich quick" schemes.
There's only one person getting rich, and it's not you! The lure of the
schemes, however, is quite strong. The temptation is that you might
come away with that big jackpot and go home with your pockets full
without putting forth much effort. The reality, however, is much more
like the apostle Paul said:

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare,
and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in
destruction and perdition (1 Timothy 6:9 NKJV).

It's not surprising that Jesus had so much to say!

Considering the constant temptation of money, it's not surprising that
Jesus had much to say about the subject. It is significant, though,
that Jesus didn't talk as much about what to do with our money as he
talked about the right kind of attitude we ought to have toward it.

Agur, in his pearls of wisdom contained in Proverbs, also had much to
say about our attitude toward wealth. One of my favorite verses on the
subject is this one:

Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor
riches. Feed me with the food allotted to me; Lest I be full and
deny You, And say, "Who is the LORD?" Or lest I be poor and steal,
And profane the name of my God (Proverbs 30:8-9).

May you be sufficiently blessed. But, may your riches -- and your
desire for them -- never diminish your sense of need for God.

Morning & Evening -- Hebrews 4:9 and Luke 24:27

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 18, 2008

MORNING:

"There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."
-- Hebrews 4:9

How different will be the state of the believer in heaven from what it
is here! Here he is born to toil and suffer weariness, but in the land
of the immortal, fatigue is never known. Anxious to serve his Master,
he finds his strength unequal to his zeal: his constant cry is, "Help
me to serve thee, O my God." If he be thoroughly active, he will have
much labour; not too much for his will, but more than enough for his
power, so that he will cry out, "I am not wearied of the labour, but I
am wearied in it." Ah! Christian, the hot day of weariness lasts not
for ever; the sun is nearing the horizon; it shall rise again with a
brighter day than thou hast ever seen upon a land where they serve God
day and night, and yet rest from their labours. Here, rest is but
partial, there, it is perfect. Here, the Christian is always unsettled;
he feels that he has not yet attained. There, all are at rest; they
have attained the summit of the mountain; they have ascended to the
bosom of their God. Higher they cannot go. Ah, toil-worn labourer, only
think when thou shalt rest for ever! Canst thou conceive it? It is a
rest eternal; a rest that "remaineth." Here, my best joys bear "mortal"
on their brow; my fair flowers fade; my dainty cups are drained to
dregs; my sweetest birds fall before Death's arrows; my most pleasant
days are shadowed into nights; and the flood-tides of my bliss subside
into ebbs of sorrow; but there, everything is immortal; the harp abides
unrusted, the crown unwithered, the eye undimmed, the voice
unfaltering, the heart unwavering, and the immortal being is wholly
absorbed in infinite delight. Happy day! happy! when mortality shall be
swallowed up of life, and the Eternal Sabbath shall begin.

EVENING:

"He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things
concerning himself."
-- Luke 24:27

The two disciples on the road to Emmaus had a most profitable journey.
Their companion and teacher was the best of tutors; the interpreter one
of a thousand, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and
knowledge. The Lord Jesus condescended to become a preacher of the
gospel, and he was not ashamed to exercise his calling before an
audience of two persons, neither does he now refuse to become the
teacher of even one. Let us court the company of so excellent an
Instructor, for till he is made unto us wisdom we shall never be wise
unto salvation.

This unrivalled tutor used as his class-book the best of books.
Although able to reveal fresh truth, he preferred to expound the old.
He knew by his omniscience what was the most instructive way of
teaching, and by turning at once to Moses and the prophets, he showed
us that the surest road to wisdom is not speculation, reasoning, or
reading human books, but meditation upon the Word of God. The readiest
way to be spiritually rich in heavenly knowledge is to dig in this mine
of diamonds, to gather pearls from this heavenly sea. When Jesus
himself sought to enrich others, he wrought in the quarry of Holy
Scripture.

The favoured pair were led to consider the best of subjects, for Jesus
spake of Jesus, and expounded the things concerning himself. Here the
diamond cut the diamond, and what could be more admirable? The Master
of the House unlocked his own doors, conducted the guests to his table,
and placed his own dainties upon it. He who hid the treasure in the
field himself guided the searchers to it. Our Lord would naturally
discourse upon the sweetest of topics, and he could find none sweeter
than his own person and work: with an eye to these we should always
search the Word. O for grace to study the Bible with Jesus as both our
teacher and our lesson!

My Utmost For His Highest : "It Is The Lord!"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 18, 2008

IT IS THE LORD!

Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God.

John 20:2

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+20:2&sr=1

"Give Me to drink." How many of us are set upon Jesus Christ slaking
our thirst when we ought to be satisfying Him? We should be pouring
out now, spending to the last limit, not drawing on Him to satisfy
us. "Ye shall be witnesses unto Me" - that means a life of unsullied,
uncompromising and unbribed devotion to the Lord Jesus, a
satisfaction to Him wherever He places us.

Beware of anything that competes with loyalty to Jesus Christ. The
greatest competitor of devotion to Jesus is service for Him. It is
easier to serve than to be drunk to the dregs. The one aim of the
call of God is the satisfaction of God, not a call to do something
for Him. We are not sent to battle for God, but to be used by God in
His battlings. Are we being more devoted to service than to Jesus
Christ?

Praying with Paul : "Abraham's Faith"

ABRAHAM'S FAITH

Romans 4:17-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+4:17-21

Dear Father, promise keeper,

Thank you that Abraham's faith was held up for us to see. He
became the father of us all because you said to him, "I will make
you the father of many nations."

You are the God in whom he believed, hope against hope, that he
would become the father of many nations, as he had been told, "Your
descendants shall be as numerous as the stars, and like grains of
sand on the beach."

You are the God who gives life to the dead and calls into
existence the things that do not exist, so Abraham did not weaken
in faith when he considered the age and deadness of his own body
and the barrenness of Sarah's womb.

O that I could be like him! No distrust made him waver concerning
your promise. He grew strong in faith and gave you glory, fully
convinced that you were able to do what you had promised. I want to
be like him!

In the name of Jesus I offer myself and my faith to you. Amen.

The Authoritative Voice

The people were amazed. They asked each other, "What is
happening here? This man is teaching something new. And he
teaches with authority (power)! He even gives commands to
evil spirits, and the spirits obey him." So the news about
Jesus spread quickly everywhere in the area of Galilee.

-- Mark 1:27-28 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus has authority. Not just rank so he can give orders. Not just
power so he can obliterate his enemies. No, Jesus has true authority --
rank, power, and integrity so that he can authentically rule and
destroy evil. This authority should not just be admired. This authority
should not leave us spell-bound. No, this authority should lead us to
watch Jesus and learn from his actions, because they are gracious and
compassionate as well as mighty. This authority should make us listen
to what he says, because Jesus' words are not only true, they are
life-giving and liberating. We should be excited. We should tell others
about Jesus. Most importantly, we should obey him and follow his
example of sacrificial service.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
My dear and precious Father, the One True and Living God, please give
me the courage to believe and obey the words of Jesus and to follow his
example of sacrificial service. In Jesus' mighty name I pray. Amen.
