Mustard Seed Thoughts: Apple of the Eye Commitment

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Apple of the Eye Commitment
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 17:8 NIV

When my boys were young, I told them often that I would never leave them nor forsake them. As they got older they didn't want to hear it as much, but they still wanted to see it.

I want my boys to know that they are important to me. I want them to sense that they are the apple of my eye. I want them to feel that they can find protection in me, that I will always have their best interests at heart, and that here is one person that will always be on their team.

Let me tell you that I can't be that person to my boys unless God is that person to me. When I see God as my provider and the source for all my needs, then I can provide that comfort to the ones I love.

When I recognize that I am the apple of my Father's eye, then I can give my children the position in my heart that they deserve. It saddens me to see so many children who are growing up in homes today where there is either no love or absent and silent love.

We need to get back to a day when our children see our love and commitment to the home. We need to let them be the apple of our eye. We need to shelter them in the shadow of our wings. We need to take back our family for God! We can only do that when we, ourselves, are in a right relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dear God, keep us as the apple of your eye! Shelter us under your mighty wings! It is our only hope!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

True Peace, by Bill Sherrill

At once, Jesus said to them, "Don't worry! I am Jesus. Don't be
afraid."

Peter replied, "Lord, if it is really you, tell me to come to you
on the water." "Come on!" Jesus said. Peter then got out of the
boat and started walking on the water toward him.

But when Peter saw how strong the wind was, he was afraid and
started sinking. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted.

Right away, Jesus reached out his hand. He helped Peter up and
said, "You surely don't have much faith. Why do you doubt?"

(Matthew 14:27-31 NASB).

He stands boldly between me and the terrors of the night!

I'm sitting here, in the quiet of late evening, listening to beautiful
music and I feel a peaceful calm. I can almost see one of the gentle
mountain streams of my youth sparkling in the silver moonlight. Isn't
it wonderful when all our surroundings gently caress us into a mellow
quietness? One is almost called on to softly repeat the old saying,
"God's in His heaven, all's right with the world."

However, times like I am enjoying this moment can hardly be viewed as
tests of the strength and nature of Christian character. Let the
lightning crash, the thunder roll and torrents of the storm wash at the
very foundations of the house. Hear the roar of traffic, the noisy
clamor of the city and feel the jostling of the rushing crowd. Face the
bleakness of an empty wallet, the helplessness of joblessness and the
gnawing hunger of too many missed meals. Then, and perhaps only then,
can one know how comforting true faith can be.

On the other hand, finding peace in the midst of tumult, joy in the
face of oppression and hope when the night seems darkest shows us that
God is in His heaven and He also dwells in the heart of the humble, the
contrite, the downtrodden, and the outcast. Now that is the nature of
the God I need! I rejoice in God, the Lord who stands boldly between me
and the terrors of the night and rescues me from a thousand devils in
pursuit. One who may be disappointed when I fail to walk on the raging
sea because I lose sight of Him, but He always reaches down a gentle
hand to lift me up when I cry for His help.

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell
God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will
experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.
His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ
Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT).

Morning & Evening -- Hebrews 5:7 and Luke 10:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

MORNING:

"He was heard in that he feared."
-- Hebrews 5:7

Did this fear arise from the infernal suggestion that he was utterly
forsaken. There may be sterner trials than this, but surely it is one
of the worst to be utterly forsaken? "See," said Satan, "thou hast a
friend nowhere! Thy Father hath shut up the bowels of his compassion
against thee. Not an angel in his courts will stretch out his hand to
help thee. All heaven is alienated from thee; thou art left alone. See
the companions with whom thou hast taken sweet counsel, what are they
worth? Son of Mary, see there thy brother James, see there thy loved
disciple John, and thy bold apostle Peter, how the cowards sleep when
thou art in thy sufferings! Lo! Thou hast no friend left in heaven or
earth. All hell is against thee. I have stirred up mine infernal den. I
have sent my missives throughout all regions summoning every prince of
darkness to set upon thee this night, and we will spare no arrows, we
will use all our infernal might to overwhelm thee: and what wilt thou
do, thou solitary one?" It may be, this was the temptation; we think it
was, because the appearance of an angel unto him strengthening him
removed that fear. He was heard in that he feared; he was no more
alone, but heaven was with him. It may be that this is the reason of
his coming three times to his disciples-as Hart puts it-

"Backwards and forwards thrice he ran,
As if he sought some help from man."

He would see for himself whether it were really true that all men had
forsaken him; he found them all asleep; but perhaps he gained some
faint comfort from the thought that they were sleeping, not from
treachery, but from sorrow, the spirit indeed was willing, but the
flesh was weak. At any rate, he was heard in that he feared. Jesus was
heard in his deepest woe; my soul, thou shalt be heard also.

EVENING:

"In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit."
-- Luke 10:21

The Saviour was "a man of sorrows," but every thoughtful mind has
discovered the fact that down deep in his innermost soul he carried an
inexhaustible treasury of refined and heavenly joy. Of all the human
race, there was never a man who had a deeper, purer, or more abiding
peace than our Lord Jesus Christ. "He was anointed with the oil of
gladness above his fellows." His vast benevolence must, from the very
nature of things, have afforded him the deepest possible delight, for
benevolence is joy. There were a few remarkable seasons when this joy
manifested itself. "At that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I
thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth." Christ had his songs,
though it was night with him; though his face was marred, and his
countenance had lost the lustre of earthly happiness, yet sometimes it
was lit up with a matchless splendour of unparalleled satisfaction, as
he thought upon the recompense of the reward, and in the midst of the
congregation sang his praise unto God. In this, the Lord Jesus is a
blessed picture of his church on earth. At this hour the church expects
to walk in sympathy with her Lord along a thorny road; through much
tribulation she is forcing her way to the crown. To bear the cross is
her office, and to be scorned and counted an alien by her mother's
children is her lot; and yet the church has a deep well of joy, of
which none can drink but her own children. There are stores of wine,
and oil, and corn, hidden in the midst of our Jerusalem, upon which the
saints of God are evermore sustained and nurtured; and sometimes, as in
our Saviour's case, we have our seasons of intense delight, for "There
is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of our God."
Exiles though we be, we rejoice in our King; yea, in him we exceedingly
rejoice, while in his name we set up our banners.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Decreasing Into His Purpose"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 24, 2009

DECREASING INTO HIS PURPOSE

He must increase, but I must decrease.

John 3:30
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+3:30&sr=1

If you become a necessity to a soul, you are out of God's order. As a
worker, your great responsibility is to be a friend of the
Bridegroom. When once you see a soul in sight of the claims of Jesus
Christ, you know that your influence has been in the right direction,
and instead of putting out a hand to prevent the throes, pray that
they grow ten times stronger until there is no power on earth or in
bell that can hold that soul away from Jesus Christ. Over and over
again, we become amateur providences, we come in and prevent God; and
say - "This and that must not be." Instead of proving friends of the
Bridegroom, we put our sympathy in the way, and the soul will one day
say - "That one was a thief, he stole my affections from Jesus, and I
lost my vision of Him."

Beware of rejoicing with a soul in the wrong thing, but see that you
do rejoice in the right thing. "The friend of the
Bridegroom...rejoiceth greatly because of the Bridegroom's voice:
this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must
decrease." This is spoken with joy and not with sadness - at last
they are to see the Bride groom! And John says this is his joy. It is
the absolute effacement of the worker, he is never thought of again.

Watch for all you are worth until you hear the Bridegroom's voice in
the life of another. Never mind what havoc it brings, what upsets,
what crumblings of health, rejoice with divine hilarity when once His
voice is heard. You may often see Jesus Christ wreck a life before He
saves it. (Cf. Matt. 10:34.)

ESCAPING DOOM

1 Corinthians 3:14-15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+3:14-15

Dear Father, designer of destiny,

Even if I am not the best quality, you can save me myself - but I
don't want to escape doom by a hairsbreadth. I want to fulfill all
the potential you have placed within me and do all the good you
have planned for me to do.

Help me, Father, through the example of the Lord Jesus to be
everything that you want me to be, to do everything you want me do,
and to live my life at the peak of quality. Make all of us into
what you want us to be, for such is our blessedness.

Let me be a blessing to other people, that they may see your Son
living in me and may give glory to you.

In the blessed name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- Keep Praying! -- Matthew 7:7-8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/

Keep Praying!

"Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to
search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door
will open for you. Yes, if a person continues asking, that
person will receive. If a person continues looking, that
person will find. And if a person continues knocking, the
door will open for that person."

-- Matthew 7:7-8 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Ask, look, knock. These actions sound so harmless and so easy. But
behind these words is the intent of Jesus: "Be persistent! Keep asking!
Continue looking! Don't quit knocking!" This is not a cookbook
prescription, but the target attitude we should have in our prayers and
our lives. We must be persistent and faithful. But before making that
persistence our key to acquiring and achieving for ourselves, let's
remember Jesus' example in the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-13: the
focus is on God's will -- his Kingdom and his glory, on our most basic
needs -- daily bread, and on overcoming sin through forgiveness and
deliverance. Jesus is reminding us that if we stay after these, not
only will we get what we ask for, but we will also be changed in the
process!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous Father, thank you so much for the many prayers you
have answered. Thank you, dear Father, for answering my prayers to be
more like Jesus. I confess I am still so very far from his perfection,
but when I look at the distance you have brought me in the past, I can
view the future only with excitement knowing that you will lead me on

Today's Verse : Proverbs 10:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 24, 2009

VERSE:
The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of
the wicked will rot.
-- Proverbs 10:7
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Proverbs+10:7

THOUGHT:
Sometimes the wisdom of God is short, succinct, and sweet for
those who seek to do his will. I refuse to live the kind of life
that poisons the lives of those I touch and leaves rot in the
heritage of my descendants. I want my children and grandchildren to
remember me with sweet thoughts because their dad, and granddad,
sought to be righteous and love the Lord with all their hearts.

PRAYER:
O Holy and Righteous Father, I want my character to be a
blessing to my children and my children's children. Please give me
wisdom, discernment, tact, honor, integrity, and compassionate
holiness in all my actions, words, demeanor, and influence. May I
provide a godly influence and a righteous memory for those in both
my physical and spiritual families. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
