Christ is Chosen and Precious (1)

Christ is Chosen and Precious (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 2:6 For it is contained in Scripture: "Behold, I lay in
Zion a cornerstone, chosen and precious; and he who believes
on Him shall by no means be put to shame." 7 To you
therefore who believe is the preciousness; but to the
unbelieving, "The stone which the builders rejected, this has
become the head of the corner,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

First, as we have seen, Christ was chosen by God in eternity
past. That was God's initial choosing of Him. Then God chose
Christ the second time in resurrection. Resurrection is a
strong proof that God has chosen Christ. This second choosing
was a confirmation of God's first choosing. Therefore, in
resurrection God confirmed the choice He had made concerning
Christ in eternity past.

When Christ was on the cross, apparently He was rejected by
God. To the Pharisees and to all the others who opposed Him,
the crucifixion of Christ was a sign that God had rejected
Him. According to Matthew 27:42 and 43, the chief priests,
with the scribes and the elders, said, "He is king of Israel,
let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe on
him. He trusted upon God; let Him rescue him now if He wants
him; for he said, I am God's Son." Luke 23:35 says, "And the
rulers were even sneering and saying, He saved others, let him
save himself if this is the Christ of God, the Chosen One!"
The religious leaders thought that God had rejected Christ.
However, on the third day Christ was resurrected, and that
resurrection was a sign of God's choosing, a proof that God
had chosen Christ to be the stone for His building.

The statement, "Behold, I lay in Zion a chosen stone," refers
not only to Christ's resurrection, but also to His ascension.
After God resurrected Christ, He lifted Him up to the heavens.
Therefore, Christ's ascension was a further sign and
confirmation that God had chosen Him.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Ruts, by Mike Barres

We have a new house and a new driveway. Our driveway is steep and it's
made of gravel. We have been in the house for 8 months now. About two
months ago, I noticed ruts forming in our driveway. For awhile, I
noticed the ruts -- ironically, I did this every time I drove in them.
Finally, I started driving beside the ruts to wear out the driveway a
little more evenly. Every once and a while, when I don't think, guess
what happens? I drive in the ruts! It is so easy to do the same old
thing that I'm accustomed to doing without thinking about it.

Sometimes, we get into ruts with our lives. We do the same old things
over and over. We become creatures of habit. Breaking out of our
routines can be fun and refreshing. So why not try something new for a
change. Go out to eat at a different place. Do something different for
recreation. Go to a different place on vacation.

Watch out for those ruts!

We can get in to a rut in our churches too if we aren't careful. The
Bible talks about doing "new things" (Isaiah 43:19) and singing "new
songs" (Psalm 149:1). A few weeks ago, I felt like the Lord was leading
me to do something I'd never done before in one of our services. Right
in the middle of the service, I asked for volunteers to go out
visiting. We had 8 volunteers that went out and brought back great
reports of their visits. I have heard of other churches doing things
that they "had never done before." Be open to God's leading in your
church. He may give you some fresh new ideas that open up whole new
opportunities for ministry.

Our personal walk with the Lord can get in to a rut, too. The Lord is
so wonderfully creative. Pray and see if He might be showing you
something new to do, for Him or with Him. Pray in a different place or
in a different way. Read a new Christian book. Start a Bible study with
a friend or family member. The Lord may show you a new ministry, so try
different opportunities that the Lord makes available to you.

And ... watch out for those ruts! We have a tendency to just do the
same things over and over. That's fine if the Lord is leading us that
way. However, pray, watch and listen, in case He wants to show you
something "new." God's steadfast love is providing us new mercies, and
new opportunities, every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Morning & Evening -- Proverbs 1:33 and Job 13:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, July 6, 2008

MORNING:

"Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be
quiet from fear of evil."
-- Proverbs 1:33

Divine love is rendered conspicuous when it shines in the midst of
judgments. Fair is that lone star which smiles through the rifts of the
thunder clouds; bright is the oasis which blooms in the wilderness of
sand; so fair and so bright is love in the midst of wrath. When the
Israelites provoked the Most High by their continued idolatry, he
punished them by withholding both dew and rain, so that their land was
visited by a sore famine; but while he did this, he took care that his
own chosen ones should be secure. If all other brooks are dry, yet
shall there be one reserved for Elijah; and when that fails, God shall
still preserve for him a place of sustenance; nay, not only so, the
Lord had not simply one "Elijah," but he had a remnant according to the
election of grace, who were hidden by fifties in a cave, and though the
whole land was subject to famine, yet these fifties in the cave were
fed, and fed from Ahab's table too by His faithful, God-fearing
steward, Obadiah. Let us from this draw the inference, that come what
may, God's people are safe. Let convulsions shake the solid earth, let
the skies themselves be rent in twain, yet amid the wreck of worlds the
believer shall be as secure as in the calmest hour of rest. If God
cannot save his people under heaven, he will save them in heaven. If
the world becomes too hot to hold them, then heaven shall be the place
of their reception and their safety. Be ye then confident, when ye hear
of wars, and rumours of wars. Let no agitation distress you, but be
quiet from fear of evil. Whatsoever cometh upon the earth, you, beneath
the broad wings of Jehovah, shall be secure. Stay yourself upon his
promise; rest in his faithfulness, and bid defiance to the blackest
future, for there is nothing in it direful for you. Your sole concern
should be to show forth to the world the blessedness of hearkening to
the voice of wisdom.

EVENING:

"How many are mine iniquities and sins?"
-- Job 13:23

Have you ever really weighed and considered how great the sin of God's
people is? Think how heinous is your own transgression, and you will
find that not only does a sin here and there tower up like an alp, but
that your iniquities are heaped upon each other, as in the old fable of
the giants who piled Pelian upon Ossa, mountain upon mountain. What an
aggregate of sin there is in the life of one of the most sanctified of
God's children! Attempt to multiply this, the sin of one only, by the
multitude of the redeemed, "a number which no man can number," and you
will have some conception of the great mass of the guilt of the people
for whom Jesus shed his blood. But we arrive at a more adequate idea of
the magnitude of sin by the greatness of the remedy provided. It is the
blood of Jesus Christ, God's only and well-beloved Son. God's Son!
Angels cast their crowns before him! All the choral symphonies of
heaven surround his glorious throne. "God over all, blessed for ever.
Amen." And yet he takes upon himself the form of a servant, and is
scourged and pierced, bruised and torn, and at last slain; since
nothing but the blood of the incarnate Son of God could make atonement
for our offences. No human mind can adequately estimate the infinite
value of the divine sacrifice, for great as is the sin of God's people,
the atonement which takes it away is immeasurably greater. Therefore,
the believer, even when sin rolls like a black flood, and the
remembrance of the past is bitter, can yet stand before the blazing
throne of the great and holy God, and cry, "Who is he that condemneth?
It is Christ that died; yea rather, that hath risen again." While the
recollection of his sin fills him with shame and sorrow, he at the same
time makes it a foil to show the brightness of mercy-guilt is the dark
night in which the fair star of divine love shines with serene
splendour.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Vision And Reality"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 6, 2008

VISION AND REALITY

And the parched ground shall become a pool.

Isaiah 35:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+35:7&sr=1

We always have visions, before a thing is made real. When we realize
that although the vision is real, it is not real in us, then is the
time that Satan comes in with his temptations, and we are apt to say
it is no use to go on. Instead of the vision becoming real, there has
come the valley of humiliation.

"Life is not as idle ore,
But iron dug from central gloom,
And batter'd by the shocks of doom
To shape and use."

God gives us the vision, then He takes us down to the valley to
batter us into the shape of the vision, and it is in the valley that
so many of us faint and give way. Every vision will be made real if
we will have patience. Think of the enormous leisure of God! He is
never in a hurry. We are always in such a frantic hurry. In the light
of the glory of the vision we go forth to do things, but the vision
is not real in us yet; and God has to take us into the valley, and
put us through fires and floods to batter us into shape, until we get
to the place where He can trust us with the veritable reality. Ever
since we had the vision God has been at work, getting us into the
shape of the ideal, and over and over again we escape from His hand
and try to batter ourselves into our own shape.

The vision is not a castle in the air, but a vision of what God wants
you to be. Let Him put you on His wheel and whirl you as He likes,
and as sure as God is God and you are you, you will turn out exactly
in accordance with the vision. Don't lose heart in the process. If
you have ever had the vision of God, you may try as you like to be
satisfied on a lower level, but God will never let you.

Praying with Paul : "The Flesh Versus the Spirit"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE FLESH VERSUS THE SPIRIT

Galatians 5:16-18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+5:16-18

Dear Father, giver of your Spirit,

Help me to walk by the Spirit and not gratify the desires of my
flesh. For the desires of my flesh are opposed to the desires of my
spirit and to the desires of your Spirit for me. These things set
up an opposition within me to keep me from doing what I want. But
thank you for letting me know that if I live by the Spirit I do
something different than just live by the rules of the law, that
in fact I am not under law.

In the name of Jesus I ask you to perfect us, whatever that may
take, and give us the grace to endure your renovation process.
Amen.

Leaving the Nest

"'That is why a man will leave his father and mother and be
joined to his wife.'"

-- Mark 10:7 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
One of the key elements of marriage as God designed it is the transfer
of dependence from one's parents to one's marriage partner. In the vast
majority of cultures, it is assumed that the woman will leave her
parents to begin her new family with her husband. Jesus makes clear
that the man must leave his parents for his wife as well. They must
learn to rely on one another and not their parents. In their
differences as male and female, they must learn that the other
completes what is lacking as they serve each other and depend upon God.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I pray that I will live to see a deeper appreciation for your
plan for marriage in my culture. Until that day, I pray that those in
my family will embody your will in our marriage and family
relationships. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Romans 7:6

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

July 6, 2008

VERSE:
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released
from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not
in the old way of the written code.
-- Romans 7:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+7:6

THOUGHT:
We are free from Law! Does that mean anarchy and lawlessness?
Absolutely not! No, because the grace that freed us also brought
God's HOLY Spirit to live within. He can empower us to do what we
could not do on our own. He can help us in our weakness to pray
with confidence and boldness to the Father. With his help, we are
brought into a circle of accountable friends, tied by the grace of
God and the Spirit of Christ. Thank God for the "new way"!

PRAYER:
Father, thank you for redeeming and delivering me from the
requirements of law and placing your Spirit in my heart to help me
be more than I could ever be trying to obey the Law. In Jesus' name
I praise you. Amen.
