=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Learning from Our 'Mistaks', by Mike Barres

One night I was driving alone. It was late, and I was really getting
tired. I tried all the usual things. I turned up the radio. I rolled
down the window. I started singing. Then I tried my last resort, I
started slapping myself. Nothing seemed to work.

I pulled off the interstate at an exit. I went in to the restroom. I
washed my face with a paper towel, and then wet another one to take
with me. I thought that it might help me stay awake. It wasn't until I
was coming out of the bathroom, as I looked at the door, that I
realized that I had gone in to the women's restroom. That could have
been disastrous.

Now that you have heard my story, you can understand why I always check
the door of a public restroom several times before I go in.

We can learn from our mistakes. Sometimes there is a fine line between
conviction and condemnation. We feel so terrible when we make mistakes.
The good news is that God still loves us. He wants us to learn from our
mistakes, not just feel bad about them.

Some of my most valuable life lessons have come from making mistakes.
It is painful at the time, but leaves an impression on you, that you
won't forget.

God wants us to learn from our mistakes!

I try to stop and greet people, even when I am in a hurry now. Why? One
time I was going to visit someone in the Intensive Care Unit of a
hospital. He had fallen off of a roof. I sped past a couple from our
church who was in the waiting room. I hurried by them and said a brief
hello. After I visited the gentleman in ICU, I quickly passed this same
couple on my way out, and said, "Seeya."

I received a phone call later, from the wife who was very hurt. I
didn't realize, nor did I slow down enough to find out, that her
husband had had a suspected heart attack. I felt awful. Although that
sick feeling stayed with me for a few days, the pain that I remember
from that event helps me slow down enough to visit with and talk with
folks even when I'm in a hurry.

Mistakes can be painful, but it's comforting to know that God doesn't
condemn us and wants us to learn from our mistakes.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ
Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the
Spirit. ... And we know that all things work together for good to
those who love God, to those who are the called according to His
purpose (Romans 8:1;Romans 8:28).

But, we have to be willing to learn from them!

Morning & Evening -- 1 Timothy 6:17 and 2 Kings 3:16,17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 16, 2008

MORNING:

"Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy."
-- 1 Timothy 6:17

Our Lord Jesus is ever giving, and does not for a solitary instant
withdraw his hand. As long as there is a vessel of grace not yet full
to the brim, the oil shall not be stayed. He is a sun ever-shining; he
is manna always falling round the camp; he is a rock in the desert,
ever sending out streams of life from his smitten side; the rain of his
grace is always dropping; the river of his bounty is ever-flowing, and
the well-spring of his love is constantly overflowing. As the King can
never die, so his grace can never fail. Daily we pluck his fruit, and
daily his branches bend down to our hand with a fresh store of mercy.
There are seven feast-days in his weeks, and as many as are the days,
so many are the banquets in his years. Who has ever returned from his
door unblessed? Who has ever risen from his table unsatisfied, or from
his bosom un-emparadised? His mercies are new every morning and fresh
every evening. Who can know the number of his benefits, or recount the
list of his bounties? Every sand which drops from the glass of time is
but the tardy follower of a myriad of mercies. The wings of our hours
are covered with the silver of his kindness, and with the yellow gold
of his affection. The river of time bears from the mountains of
eternity the golden sands of his favour. The countless stars are but as
the standard bearers of a more innumerable host of blessings. Who can
count the dust of the benefits which he bestows on Jacob, or tell the
number of the fourth part of his mercies towards Israel? How shall my
soul extol him who daily loadeth us with benefits, and who crowneth us
with loving-kindness? O that my praise could be as ceaseless as his
bounty! O miserable tongue, how canst thou be silent? Wake up, I pray
thee, lest I call thee no more my glory, but my shame. "Awake, psaltery
and harp: I myself will awake right early."

EVENING:

"And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of
ditches. For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not see wind,
neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled
with water, that ye may drink, both ye and your cattle, and
your beasts."
-- 2 Kings 3:16,17

The armies of the three kings were famishing for want of water: God was
about to send it, and in these words the prophet announced the coming
blessing. Here was a case of human helplessness: not a drop of water
could all the valiant men procure from the skies or find in the wells
of earth. Thus often the people of the Lord are at their wits' end;
they see the vanity of the creature, and learn experimentally where
their help is to be found. Still the people were to make a believing
preparation for the divine blessing; they were to dig the trenches in
which the precious liquid would be held. The church must by her varied
agencies, efforts, and prayers, make herself ready to be blessed; she
must make the pools, and the Lord will fill them. This must be done in
faith, in the full assurance that the blessing is about to descend.
By-and-by there was a singular bestowal of the needed boon. Not as in
Elijah's case did the shower pour from the clouds, but in a silent and
mysterious manner the pools were filled. The Lord has his own sovereign
modes of action: he is not tied to manner and time as we are, but doeth
as he pleases among the sons of men. It is ours thankfully to receive
from him, and not to dictate to him. We must also notice the remarkable
abundance of the supply -there was enough for the need of all. And so
it is in the gospel blessing; all the wants of the congregation and of
the entire church shall be met by the divine power in answer to prayer;
and above all this, victory shall be speedily given to the armies of
the Lord.

What am I doing for Jesus? What trenches am I digging? O Lord, make me
ready to receive the blessing which thou art so willing to bestow.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Habit Of Wealth"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 16, 2008

THE HABIT OF WEALTH

Partakers of the divine nature.

2 Peter 1:4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2pe+1:4&sr=1

We are made partakers of the Divine nature through the promises; then
we have to "manipulate" the Divine nature in our human nature by
habits, and the first habit to form is the habit of realizing the
provision God has made. "Oh, I can't afford it," we say - one of the
worst lies is tucked up in that phrase. It is ungovernably bad taste
to talk about money in the natural domain, and so it is spiritually,
and yet we talk as if our Heavenly Father had cut us off with a
shilling! We think it a sign of real modesty to say at the end of a
day - "Oh, well, I have just got through, but it has been a severe
tussle." And all the Almighty God is ours in the Lord Jesus! And He
will tax the last grain of sand and the remotest star to bless us if
we will obey Him. What does it matter if external circumstances are
hard? Why should they not be! If we give way to self-pity and indulge
in the luxury of misery, we banish God's riches from our own lives
and hinder others from entering into His provision. No sin is worse
than the sin of self-pity, because it obliterates God and puts
self-interest upon the throne. It opens our mouths to spit out
murmurings and our lives become craving spiritual sponges, there is
nothing lovely or generous about them.

When God is beginning to be satisfied with us He will impoverish
everything in the nature of fictitious wealth, until we learn that
all our fresh springs are in Him. If the majesty and grace and power
of God are not being manifested in us (not to our consciousness), God
holds us responsible. "God is able to make all grace abound," then
learn to lavish the grace of God on others. Be stamped with God's
nature, and His blessing will come through you all the time.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Love Others Willingly

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Love Others Willingly
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 2 Corinthians 5:16 NIV

If Christ died for us, and if we now live for Him, then our view of others has to change. No longer do we see people through the worlds eyes, but since Christ now lives within us, we see others through the eyes of Christ. Wow, that will change your perspective!

Some people are difficult to love, arent they? By the standards of this world, we often have categories for the people we encounter. Some people are more acceptable than others, when we approach life from this world view. I recall preaching recently at a nearby jail. As I preached to the men on the other side of the bars I was humbled to remember that God loves them as much as He love me. I began to reflect on some of the things I have done wrong in my life, and yet how wonderfully God has accepted me.

Thankfully God has a forgetting heart. Th e Bible says He throws our sins into the sea of forgetfullness. God has allowed us, however, to remember the sins He has forgotten. I think He does this so that we will never forget how gracious He has been to us.

When we consider Gods grace and mercy applied to our lives, how can we not look at others and apply the same forgiveness? How can we not look at them through the eyes of Christ?

Dear God, help us today to apply the principle of grace to those around us, to see others through Your perspective, and help us to love and forgive as we have been loved and forgiven.

Praying with Paul : "A God of Deliverance"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

A GOD OF DELIVERANCE

2 Corinthians 1:3-11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+1:3-11

Dear Father, great and gentle one,

When I am utterly, unbearably crushed so that I despair of life
itself, when I feel as if I have received the sentence of death,
remind me that I am to rely not on myself but on you, the God who
raises the dead.

It is only you who can deliver from deadly peril. I have set my
hope on you. You deliver me again and again and again. How faithful
you are!

I pray for my many brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the
world, that they will experience relief from suffering, deliverance
from peril, and comfort after grief and despair.

Grant bountiful blessings to your people, my God, in answer to
many prayers. Please receive this one and make it count among the
many others! Thank you, Father. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Spirit.

Jesus has taught to besiege you with constant prayer. Here we are
again, coming in his name. Amen.

Watch Out for Bad Bread!

The followers had only one loaf of bread with them in the
boat. They forgot to bring more bread. Jesus warned them, "Be
careful! Guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the
yeast of Herod. "

-- Mark 8:14-15 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Don't you just love the way Jesus helps his disciples move from
temporal concerns and physical needs to spiritual and eternal issues?
How often do we get so bogged down in the physical details that we lose
sight of spiritual truths? Let's ask Jesus to take us deeper into what
is truly life, what is genuine spirituality. Let's not settle for
worrying about temporal "stuff" God has already promised to take care
of for us!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, please forgive me. I confess that I sometimes get anxious about
things that don't really matter. I sometimes get hung up on concerns
that are not spiritual matters. Help me see the issues, needs, and
concerns that are truly important. Help me focus on them! In Jesus'
name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Matthew 5:16

May 16, 2008

VERSE:
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may
see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
-- Matthew 5:16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+5:16

THOUGHT:
As Christians, we are not called to isolate ourselves from
culture. We are not called to be hermits or monks. Instead, we are
to recognize that we are in a world of darkness and live as light
-- not as little candles tucked away in some inner bedroom, but as
candles set on their stands so all can see their light or cities on
a hill that can't be hidden. Of course, our goal is not to call
attention to ourselves, but to help others see the glorious grace
of our Father.

PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, may my life bless others today, and
everyday, so they can see you and your love more clearly. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.
