Being Guarded by the Peace of God

Being Guarded by the Peace of God

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Phil. 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses every man's
understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in
Christ Jesus.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your
heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The issue, the result, of practicing the organic union with
the Lord is that the peace of God guards our hearts and
thoughts in Christ Jesus (v. 7). The peace of God is actually
God as peace (v. 9), infused into us through our fellowship
with Him by prayer. This peace is the counterpoise of
troubles and the antidote to anxiety (John 16:33).

Bad news or difficult situations may cause us to worry or to
be anxious. We find the antidote to this anxiety when we
pray, practice communion with God, and enjoy the organic
union [a living oneness with the Lord]. Then spontaneously,
even unconsciously, the peace of God is transfused into our
inner being. This transfused peace becomes the counterpoise
of trouble and becomes the antidote to anxiety. From
experience we know that through prayer we receive this
antidote to anxiety when the peace of God is infused into us.
Having the peace of God as the counterpoise to our troubles
does not mean that the troubles will disappear. The troubles
remain, but we have a counterpoise. Furthermore, the poison
of anxiety is still within us, but we have an antidote--the
peace of God transfused into our being through our fellowship
with God in prayer. When we enjoy God as our peace, we are
made calm within.

The Greek word rendered "guard" may also be rendered "mount
guard over." The God of peace patrols or stands guard before
our hearts and thoughts in Christ. This means that in Christ
Jesus the peace of God patrols as a guard who goes back and
forth before our hearts and our thoughts. The peace of God
which patrols within our inner being in such a way keeps us
calm and tranquil. Even though we may have many troubles and
much anxiety, nothing will disturb us. From experience we
know that the peace of God infused into us keeps us calm.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: The Storm Growth, Part 1

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Storm Growth, Part 1
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when He was alone with His own disciples, He explained everything. Mark 4:33-34 NIV

Before you begin reading this series, will you do me a favor? Actually this wouldnt be a bad practice everyday, but especially now. God has really spoken to me through the study of His Word preparing for this series. Will you pray that He will do the same for you? Will you ask God to open your heart to the Truth of His Word and what He may want to do in your life as a result of that truth?

Jesus knew that His ministry was going to be short on earth. I believe, because of this foreknowledge, that Jesus was very calculated in everything He did. Jesus always attracted a crowd wherever He went, but Jesus had a special purpose in His ministry. Besides going to the Cross, Jesus wanted to build the principles of the Gospel into twelve m en He called His disciples. Jesus reached thousands of people, but He pointedly invested His life into these twelve men.

Jesus looked for opportunities to step away from the crowd and spend time alone with these future fishers of men. We are going to look in detail at the story which follows todays verses, the calming of the sea. Please keep the fact of Jesus purposeful ministry to the disciples in mind as we begin to look closely at this story.

This truth reminds me of a principle I need to keep in mind in my own life. Through Mustard Seed Ministry, God has allowed me the privilege of speaking with thousands of people around the world everyday. As important as this ministry is, I have an even higher calling and that is to make disciples out of two boys who both happen to live under my roof. God has first given me the assignment of reaching my children for Christ, and growing them in the knowledge of the Lord. I will be honest and say there isnt near the g lamour in this part of my ministry as in reaching the masses, yet I firmly believe I will be held more accountable for my spiritual success in this area than in all the others.

God, help me to follow the example of Jesus and remember to step away from the crowds at times and invest my life into the lives of these precious children you have entrusted to me.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

A Gift from a Friend, by Kelly Breece

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn (Romans
12:15 TNIV).

A dear friend, James, taught me a life affirming lesson a few days ago
-- and I am grateful for his lesson and the opportunity it gave me to
connect with a dear friend.

The lesson happened when a mutual friend of ours, named Karen, lost the
love of her life, suddenly. Being a highly respected and prominent
figure in our city, his passing would undoubtedly draw a huge crowd for
the family visitation in his honor.

Even though I was almost consumed with thoughts of Karen, her daughter,
and their sadness, I felt a sense of insignificance in anything that I
could ever do to bring comfort to them. After all, it had been several
years since our paths had crossed. We probably wouldn't even know what
to say to each other.

I prayed for their broken hearts. I prayed that God would comfort them,
but as I thought more and more about the droves of notable and
distinguished people who would surely come to the visitation, I talked
myself out of going. I didn't think I had any words that could possibly
help her, although I so wished I did. So I went about the day, quietly
thinking of my friend.

Around 2:00 that afternoon, my phone rang, and it was James. He asked
if I was going to the visitation; he asked me as if he already knew the
answer was "yes." After all, we had been corresponding by email about
the sadness we both felt for Karen. After a long pause, my excuses
started to flow. I couldn't believe my own ears, quite frankly.

James, being the understanding person that he is, quietly said, "Well,
if it works out for you to go, just call me back and I'll meet you
there."

His gentle, non-judgmental words lingered after I hung up the phone. I
decided to quickly rearrange the afternoon, threw on a basic black
outfit, and called James back. "I can be there in 30 minutes," I told
him.

There is always room for one more familiar face.

We stood in a long line, and my palms started to sweat as we got
closer. What will I say? What could I say that hasn't already been
said? I'm just another person for whom Karen, who's already exhausted,
will have to muster up some sweet response for the generic, hopefully
politically correct, sympathetic phrase that I will probably give.

She softly smiled to a few ladies ahead of us. She shook hands with men
she'd never met. Then the line cleared, and there we were, face to
face.

She stopped. She took a deep breath. Silently she reached out her hands
for James and me. And softly, she said, "Give me just a minute." And
she began to cry.

I felt my own tears well up as I slipped into that brief, but precious,
moment. I saw tears in James' eyes, too. For a few seconds, no one said
a word. All the years that had passed just fell away as we stood there,
holding the hand of our friend. In that quiet moment, my heart
overflowed with gratefulness for the friendships that we're all blessed
with in this life. I felt a deep gratefulness to James for reminding me
just how incredibly essential those friendships are to living our
lives, no matter how many years may separate us.

The most important thing I learned that day was that when a person is
hurting, there is always room for one more familiar face. Even if we
don't have the right "words," a familiar voice is often enough to
comfort a friend in a deep moment of pain. And that same familiar voice
is often enough to help comfort them in a lot of the moments that lie
ahead of them.

I hope to never again doubt that God has a plan and a way of using us
when someone who is close to us is hurting. Thank you, James.

Morning & Evening -- Jeremiah 16:20 and 1 Peter 1:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 4, 2009

MORNING:

"Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods."
-- Jeremiah 16:20

One great besetting sin of ancient Israel was idolatry, and the
spiritual Israel are vexed with a tendency to the same folly. Remphan's
star shines no longer, and the women weep no more for Tammuz, but
Mammon still intrudes his golden calf, and the shrines of pride are not
forsaken. Self in various forms struggles to subdue the chosen ones
under its dominion, and the flesh sets up its altars wherever it can
find space for them. Favourite children are often the cause of much sin
in believers; the Lord is grieved when he sees us doting upon them
above measure; they will live to be as great a curse to us as Absalom
was to David, or they will be taken from us to leave our homes
desolate. If Christians desire to grow thorns to stuff their sleepless
pillows, let them dote on their dear ones.

It is truly said that "they are no gods," for the objects of our
foolish love are very doubtful blessings, the solace which they yield
us now is dangerous, and the help which they can give us in the hour of
trouble is little indeed. Why, then, are we so bewitched with vanities?
We pity the poor heathen who adore a god of stone, and yet worship a
god of gold. Where is the vast superiority between a god of flesh and
one of wood? The principle, the sin, the folly is the same in either
case, only that in ours the crime is more aggravated because we have
more light, and sin in the face of it. The heathen bows to a false
deity, but the true God he has never known; we commit two evils,
inasmuch as we forsake the living God and turn unto idols. May the Lord
purge us all from this grievous iniquity!

"The dearest idol I have known,
Whate'er that idol be;
Help me to tear it from thy throne,
And worship only thee."

EVENING:

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of
incorruptible."
-- 1 Peter 1:23

Peter most earnestly exhorted the scattered saints to love each other
"with a pure heart fervently" and he wisely fetched his argument, not
from the law, from nature, or from philosophy, but from that high and
divine nature which God hath implanted in his people. Just as some
judicious tutor of princes might labour to beget and foster in them a
kingly spirit and dignified behaviour, finding arguments in their
position and descent, so, looking upon God's people as heirs of glory,
princes of the blood royal, descendants of the King of kings, earth's
truest and oldest aristocracy, Peter saith to them, "See that ye love
one another, because of your noble birth, being born of incorruptible
seed; because of your pedigree, being descended from God, the Creator
of all things; and because of your immortal destiny, for you shall
never pass away, though the glory of the flesh shall fade, and even its
existence shall cease." It would be well if, in the spirit of humility,
we recognized the true dignity of our regenerated nature, and lived up
to it. What is a Christian? If you compare him with a king, he adds
priestly sanctity to royal dignity. The king's royalty often lieth only
in his crown, but with a Christian it is infused into his inmost
nature. He is as much above his fellows through his new birth, as a man
is above the beast that perisheth. Surely he ought to carry himself, in
all his dealings, as one who is not of the multitude, but chosen out of
the world, distinguished by sovereign grace, written among "the
peculiar people" and who therefore cannot grovel in the dust as others,
nor live after the manner of the world's citizens. Let the dignity of
your nature, and the brightness of your prospects, O believers in
Christ, constrain you to cleave unto holiness, and to avoid the very
appearance of evil.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Vicarious Intercession"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 4, 2009

VICARIOUS INTERCESSION

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the
holiest by the blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 10:19
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+10:19&sr=1

Beware of imagining that intercession means bringing our personal
sympathies into the presence of God and demanding that He does what
we ask. Our approach to God is due entirely to the vicarious
identification of our Lord with sin. We have "boldness to enter into
the holiest by the blood of Jesus."

Spiritual stubbornness is the most effectual hindrance to
intercession, because it is based on sympathy with that in ourselves
and in others that we do not think needs atoning for. We have the
notion that there are certain right and virtuous things in us which
do not need to be based on the Atonement, and just in the domain of
"stodge" that is produced by this idea we cannot intercede. We do not
identify ourselves with God's interests in others, we get petulant
with God; we are always ready with our own ideas, and intercession
becomes the glorification of our own natural sympathies. We have to
realize that the identification of Jesus with sin means the radical
alteration of all our sympathies. Vicarious intercession means that
we deliberately substitute God's interests in others for our natural
sympathy with them.

Am I stubborn or substituted? Petted or perfect in my relationship to
God? Sulky or spiritual? Determined to have my own way or determined
to be identified with Him?

Praying with Paul : "Christ in My Heart"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRIST IN MY HEART

1 Corinthians 15:1-11
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:1-11

Dear Father, God of the living,

Thank you that Christ's revelation of himself within my soul as
Lord of my life and as the living Spirit of truth and holiness
testifies that he is not dead but alive forevermore.

Thank you that he lives in my heart.

By your grace, and by my faith in what you did, I am what I am.
The resurrection is preached and I believe it. Thank you, Father!
Thank you that I don't have to believe that death ends it all
either for Jesus or for me!

In the name of Jesus I come, thanking you for your resurrection
power and asking that I may live so as to always have hope of
sharing in it. Amen.

Warned and Supported

"Be careful of people. They will arrest you and take you to
be judged. They will whip you in their synagogues. You will
be taken to stand before governors and kings. People will do
this to you because of me. You will tell about me to those
kings and governors and to the non-Jewish people. When you
are arrested, don't worry about what to say or how you should
say it. At that time you will be given the things to say. It
will not really be you speaking. The Spirit of your Father
will be speaking through you."

-- Matthew 10:17-20 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
While opposition and persecution are real possibilities for followers
of Jesus, he does not leave us unequipped for such circumstances.
First, he does not paint a rosy picture, so that we will not be caught
off guard. He wants us to know the truth about what lies ahead. Second,
we must practice caution because there are those wanting to do us harm.
We are not trying to get into trouble; it may happen because of what we
do, but it is not our goal. Third, Jesus reminds us of our purpose of
appearing before others for the sake of the Gospel: we are to be
witnesses to the world. Fourth, we are not to worry exactly how to
defend ourselves, for the Spirit of God will help us know what to say.
Jesus makes it clear that we may suffer for our faith, but he wants us
to know that we will not be unprepared or abandoned when we do! His
words are a careful and practical balance of warning, assurance,
mission, and support.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous God, I pray now for believers all over the world who
are facing persecution and harassment for their faith. Please bless
them and fill them with your Spirit to give them words to say to make a
lasting redemptive impact on the hearts of those who oppose them. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : James 1:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 4, 2009

VERSE:
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives
generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to
him.
-- James 1:5
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=James+1:5

THOUGHT:
So often we act out of ignorance and face grave consequences for
our actions. God longs to grant us spiritual wisdom that not only
helps us make wise choices, but also gives us the ability to act
and react with grace and wisdom. Before we face each day, before we
face challenging situations, before we make challenging decisions,
let's seek God's face and ask for his gift of wisdom.

PRAYER:
Holy Father, I need your wisdom to help me make the right
decisions in the challenges and situations that will confront me
today and every day. Please pour your wisdom into my heart and head
so that my actions, words, and choices will not only be pleasing to
you, but also a blessing to those around me. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
