Seek the Lord, and Do Not Look Back

Seek the Lord, and Do Not Look Back
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 17:30 It will be in the same way on the day in which the
Son of Man is revealed. (31) In that day, he who will be on the
housetop and his goods in the house, let him not come down to
take them away; and he who is in the field, likewise, let him
not turn back to the things behind. (32) Remember Lot's wife.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In verse 32 the Lord says, "Remember Lot's wife." Lot's wife
became a pillar of salt because she took a lingering, backward
look at Sodom. That look indicated that she loved and treasured
the evil world which God was about to judge and utterly
destroy. She was rescued from Sodom, but she did not reach the
safe place that Lot reached (Gen. 19:15-30). She did not
perish; neither was she fully saved. Like the salt which
becomes tasteless (Luke 14:34-35), she was left in a place of
suffering shame. This is a solemn warning to world-loving
believers.

Lot's wife was rescued from Sodom by angels, but her heart was
still in that evil city. When the angels had brought forth Lot
and his wife, they said, "Escape for thy life; look not behind
thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the
mountain, lest thou be consumed" (Gen. 19:17). Lot and his wife
were charged to go forward and not look back. Sodom was
altogether under God's condemnation and was about to be
consumed, and they should forget it. However, unable to forget
the city of Sodom, Lot's wife had a lingering look backward at
the city, and immediately she became a pillar of salt: "But his
wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of
salt" (Gen. 19:26). What a shame!

If we love the Lord and are warned by the case of Lot's wife,
we shall not care for material things or set our hearts on
them. Instead of preserving our soul by loving material things,
we shall be filled up with Christ as the heavenly air. Then we
shall rise in rapture.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Igniting People's Passion, by Larry Davies

Fall seems to be the season when we begin to think seriously about new
beginnings. After all, a new school year started. Church programs and
small groups are beginning.

Yet to many people, churches seem intimidating and self-sustaining.
"They don't need me. What could I do to really help?"

You could not be more wrong. There is a tremendous need for you. Jesus
called you!

I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach
these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And
be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matthew
28:18-20 NLT).

I hear four important commands and a potent promise.

Here are the four commands!

1. I've been given complete authority: A command to trust.

2. Go and make disciples: A command to reach out.

3. Baptize them: A command to include them in our church family.

4. Teach the new disciples to obey: A command to pass on what we
learned.

This is the potent promise:

I will be with you always, even to the end of the age: The promise
of eternal hope.

George Barna in "Growing True Disciples" says it another way: "Ignite
and nurture people's passion for God."

What if we as the church were to focus on the four out of every ten
adults and one out of every three teenagers who have already become
Christians and do everything we can to help them grow to be productive
disciples -- help them live out the four commands?

In other words: "Ignite people's passion for God and then simply get
out of their way."

George Barna gives many examples of how as a church we could "Ignite
people's passion -- "

* We worship not just on Sunday but every day of the week.

* Constant efforts to convert knowledge of faith into personal
application.

* Complete submission to the Holy Spirit and hearts sensitive to sin.

* Joyfully share our resources -- time, money, skills, information,
etc.

* Deep commitment to building a life-changing community.

* Spontaneous demonstrations of selfless compassion toward those in
need.

You will find no greater joy!

* Sharing our faith in natural and unforced ways based on
relationships.

* We live different from the norm because of our faith.

* Your church projects an image of love, care and compassion.

Would you like something more specific? Here are a few things you could
do right now:

* Host a small group in your home: teaching is often provided by
video.

* Donate a few Saturdays to help churches fix up houses for the
needy.

* Participate with a church that is feeding meals to the needy.

* Help the Salvation Army by ringing their bell during the holiday
season.

* Be a New Member Mentor -- Help new people feel welcome and find
their niche.

* Become a Children or Youth Volunteer -- During Sunday school or at
other times.

* Building and Grounds -- Help your church or volunteer agencies look
their best.

* Meals on Wheels -- Bring a hot meal to those who need it most.

* Christmas Child -- Provide Christmas for a needy child chosen by
our local schools.

You will find no greater joy than to trust in the authority of Jesus
and reach out to others, help them feel included, and teach them to
pass on what they've seen and experienced through knowing you. Are you
nervous? So am I, but I take great comfort in Jesus words just before
ascending to heaven: "I will be with you always, even to the end of the
age."

I pray this will be part of igniting your passion for serving God and
then may we all have the wisdom and courage to "simply get out of your
way!"

Morning & Evening -- Jude 24 and Matthew 15:23

MORNING:

"Able to keep you from falling."
-- Jude 24

In some sense the path to heaven is very safe, but in other respects
there is no road so dangerous. It is beset with difficulties. One false
step (and how easy it is to take that if grace be absent), and down we
go. What a slippery path is that which some of us have to tread! How
many times have we to exclaim with the Psalmist, "My feet were almost
gone, my steps had well nigh slipped." If we were strong, sure-footed
mountaineers, this would not matter so much; but in ourselves, how weak
we are! In the best roads we soon falter, in the smoothest paths we
quickly stumble. These feeble knees of ours can scarcely support our
tottering weight. A straw may throw us, and a pebble can wound us; we
are mere children tremblingly taking our first steps in the walk of
faith, our heavenly Father holds us by the arms or we should soon be
down. Oh, if we are kept from falling, how must we bless the patient
power which watches over us day by day! Think, how prone we are to sin,
how apt to choose danger, how strong our tendency to cast ourselves
down, and these reflections will make us sing more sweetly than we have
ever done, "Glory be to him, who is able to keep us from falling." We
have many foes who try to push us down. The road is rough and we are
weak, but in addition to this, enemies lurk in ambush, who rush out
when we least expect them, and labour to trip us up, or hurl us down
the nearest precipice. Only an Almighty arm can preserve us from these
unseen foes, who are seeking to destroy us. Such an arm is engaged for
our defence. He is faithful that hath promised, and he is able to keep
us from falling, so that with a deep sense of our utter weakness, we
may cherish a firm belief in our perfect safety, and say, with joyful
confidence,

"Against me earth and hell combine,
But on my side is power divine;
Jesus is all, and he is mine!"

EVENING:

"But he answered her not a word."
-- Matthew 15:23

Genuine seekers who as yet have not obtained the blessing, may take
comfort from the story before us. The Saviour did not at once bestow
the blessing, even though the woman had great faith in him. He intended
to give it, but he waited awhile. "He answered her not a word." Were
not her prayers good? Never better in the world. Was not her case
needy? Sorrowfully needy. Did she not feel her need sufficiently? She
felt it overwhelmingly. Was she not earnest enough? She was intensely
so. Had she no faith? She had such a high degree of it that even Jesus
wondered, and said, "O woman, great is thy faith." See then, although
it is true that faith brings peace, yet it does not always bring it
instantaneously. There may be certain reasons calling for the trial of
faith, rather than the reward of faith. Genuine faith may be in the
soul like a hidden seed, but as yet it may not have budded and
blossomed into joy and peace. A painful silence from the Saviour is the
grievous trial of many a seeking soul, but heavier still is the
affliction of a harsh cutting reply such as this, "It is not meet to
take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs." Many in waiting
upon the Lord find immediate delight, but this is not the case with
all. Some, like the jailer, are in a moment turned from darkness to
light, but others are plants of slower growth. A deeper sense of sin
may be given to you instead of a sense of pardon, and in such a case
you will have need of patience to bear the heavy blow. Ah! poor heart,
though Christ beat and bruise thee, or even slay thee, trust him;
though he should give thee an angry word, believe in the love of his
heart. Do not, I beseech thee, give up seeking or trusting my Master,
because thou hast not yet obtained the conscious joy which thou longest
for. Cast thyself on him, and perseveringly depend even where thou
canst not rejoicingly hope.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Pull Yourself Together"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 9, 2007

PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER

Yield your members servants to righteousness unto
holiness.

Romans 6:13-22

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+6:13-22&sr=1

I cannot save and sanctify myself; I cannot atone for sin; I cannot
redeem the world; I can not make right what is wrong, pure what is
impure, holy what is unholy. That is all the sovereign work of God.
Have I faith in what Jesus Christ has done? He has made a perfect
Atonement, am I in the habit of constantly realizing it? The great
need is not to do things, but to believe things. The Redemption of
Christ is not an experience, it is the great act of God which He has
performed through Christ, and I have to build my faith upon it. If I
construct my faith on my experience, I produce that most unscriptural
type, an isolated life, my eyes fixed on my own whiteness. Beware of
the piety that has no pre-supposition in the Atonement of the Lord.
It is of no use for anything but a sequestered life; it is useless to
God and a nuisance to man. Measure every type of experience by our
Lord Himself. We cannot do anything pleasing to God unless we
deliberately build on the pre-supposition of the Atonement.

The Atonement of Jesus has to work out in practical, unobtrusive ways
in my life. Every time I obey, absolute Deity is on my side, so that
the grace of God and natural obedience coincide. Obedience means that
I have banked everything on the Atonement, and my obedience is met
immediately by the delight of the supernatural grace of God.

Beware of the piety that denies the natural life, it is a fraud.
Continually bring yourself to the bar of the Atonement - where is the
discernment of the Atonement in this thing, and in that?

Mustard Seed Thought: God's Promise Two

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV

God promises forgiveness. Do you need to ask for or accept God's forgiveness today?

Several years ago I tucked my son into bed just like I do every night. Usually we talk for a little while; share something about the day, discuss Scripture, or just tease with each other. We pray together and then he rolls over to go to sleep. It has always been one of my favorite times of the day.

This night was different. When he crawled into bed, he quickly rolled over away from me. I instantly knew something was wrong (don't we always as parents). I tried to talk with him, but he was very quiet. After several moments of pressuring, he shared with me that he was scared, because he didn't think I had forgiven him. He had gotten into trouble that morning before school. We never really had a chance to discuss it. I guess he had carried the guilt around all day. I confirmed my love for him, and that I had already forgiven and forgotten about whatever it was (I still don't remember), and he quickly went off to sleep in peace.

That's a true story. Does it reflect something between you and the Lord? Are you having a hard time remembering His promise of forgiveness? Sometimes we slow down our spiritual growth by hanging on to guilt of the past. If my son had been allowed to believe that I was still upset with him, how could he have ever really shared his heart with me. There would have been a constant divider between us. Dear friend, God doesn't want you to live this way! He wants you to confess your sins. You need to! But, He also wants you to accept His forgiveness! Let go of the guilt, place it at the foot of the Cross, and trust in the promise of His total redemption.

Jeremiah 31:34 says it like this "..,declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." Have you confessed your sins and sought God's forgiveness through Jesus Christ? If so, don't bring it up to Him again. He doesn't remember!

Praying with Paul : "The Secret of God's Will"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SECRET OF GOD'S WILL

Ephesians 1:9-14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+1:9-14

Dear Father, King of an eternal kingdom,

You have made known to us the secret of your will, the purpose
which you set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time.
Thank you, O God, for what you have made known - that you intend to
unite everything in Christ - things in heaven and things on earth.

Divine Lord, you accomplish all things according to your will.
Thank you that we who first hoped in Christ have been destined and
appointed to live for the praise of his glory. Thank you also that
in Christ we who have heard the word of truth, the Good News of our
salvation, and have put our trust in him, have been sealed with
your own Holy Spirit.

We exult in you, Father, because you have given us this Spirit,
which is the guarantee, the down payment on our inheritance, until
we acquire possession of it - for the praise of your glory!

In the name of Jesus and by his authority I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Where Is the Thanks? -- Luke 17: 17-19

Where Is the Thanks?

Jesus said, "Ten men were healed; where are the other nine?
This man is not even a Jew! Is he the only one that came back
to give praise to God?" Then Jesus said to the man, "Stand
up! You can go. You were healed because you believed."

-- Luke 17: 17-19 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"Where are the other nine?" Jesus says some sad things during his
earthly ministry that tear apart our hearts: "My God, my God, why have
you forsaken me?" "Peter, do you love me?" "Judas, is it with a kiss
that you are betraying the Son of Man?" "Into your hands I commit my
spirit." All of these statements are agonizing. Unfortunately he has to
keep saying, "Where are the other nine?" or something like it quite
frequently. Many of us go to the Father using the name and authority of
Jesus and ask for many things great and small. In great love and mercy,
the Father and the Son often bless us with precisely what we ask of
them. Yet with so many blessings lavished on us, our prayers remain
focused upon getting more rather than thanking and praising them for
their generosity and grace. I'm sure they have to be hurt by the
constant questions of heaven, "Where is the thanks?"

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty God and loving Father, forgive me for my self-centered
preoccupation. You have blessed me with so much and I seem to thank you
for so little. I praise you for your selfless love, your abundant
mercy, your costly grace, your faithfulness to your promises, and your
assurance of my future with you. Thank you for your Holy Spirit who
intercedes right now as I pray and who strengthens, equips, leads, and
empowers me. Thank you for the breath I breathe, the food I eat, the
clothes I wear, and the place I lay my head at night. For these, and
thousands of other blessings from your hand, I thank you. In Jesus
name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Psalm 91:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 9, 2007

VERSE:
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you
will find refuge ...
-- Psalm 91:4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+91:4

THOUGHT:
Life is filled with many uncertainties. You never know when
something unexpected is going to happen. You have no idea when the
next disaster will strike. In a world filled with hate and
terrorism, none of us has a clue when the next horrible atrocity
will take place. So what do we do when we can't be sure of our
circumstances? We take shelter under the wing of the One who is
above all circumstances! We take assurance in our Father who has
promised to bring us to himself no matter what may happen today ...
in our world ... and to our bodies. Our lives are hidden with our
Father because we've been joined to Christ. He is our Refuge! His
wings are our shelter!

PRAYER:
Father, what words can I offer that are sufficient to thank and
praise you for your deliverance that is greater than death? You are
the Alpha and the Omega. You are the God who was and is and is to
come. You are my Abba Father, who has adopted me and made me your
own. I place my trust, my hope, and future in you and I will not be
afraid. I find my refuge under your wings! All praise to you in the
name of Jesus. Amen.
