We Are Made Alive with a Living Hope (2)

We Are Made Alive with a Living Hope (2)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who according to His great mercy has regenerated us
unto a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Part 2 of 2)
A living hope is a hope of life. In particular it is a hope of
eternal life. Life is the source of hope. For example, a little
child has human life. Because he has life, his parents are full
of hope that he will grow. At birth he weighed several pounds,
but his mother is expecting him to grow to maturity as a man.
Her hope is the hope of life.

We could not have such a hope in relation to something that is
not living. For example, we would not have hope in relation to
a chair. No one would look at a chair and say, "This chair is
small and ugly, but I am full of hope that one day this chair
will become larger and beautiful." That kind of hope is
altogether vain. But it is not vain for parents to hope that
their child will grow. By this illustration we can see that
hope depends on life. The living hope is a hope of life.

A dead person has no hope. However, if life could be imparted
into a dead person, he would have the hope that every member of
his physical body would be enlivened. In principle, the same
applies to our regeneration. Before we were regenerated, we
were dead and without hope. But the eternal life that has been
sown into us is full of hope, full of the hope of life.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

ALL!, by Phil Ware

"Therefore let "ALL" Israel be assured of this: God has made this
Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah."

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to
Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and
your children and for "ALL" who are far off -- for "ALL" whom the
Lord our God will call."

With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them,
"Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." Those who accepted
his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to
their number that day

(Acts 2:36-41 TNIV).

Depending on our church background, we will probably assign crucial
importance to different phrases or words in the previous passage. Our
eyes and brains are theologically trained to tune in to some themes
more than others. Interestingly, one of Luke's key words* in this
passage often gets overlooked -- the word "ALL"! The promise of God is
"for all who are far off ..." (emphasis added).

The word "ALL" is very important in God's dealings with mortal flesh.
Look at these clear messages. God promises Abraham that "ALL" nations
of the earth will be blessed through his offspring (Genesis 12:1-3).
Jesus sends out His closest followers to reach people of "ALL" nations
(Matthew 28:18-20). God doesn't want anyone to be lost, but wants "ALL"
people to come to repentance and turn to Him (Acts 17:30; 2 Peter 3:9).

One of the biggest battles that most churches face in Europe and the
United States has to do with whether church members view church as for
"us" or for "ALL." While we nearly everyone will theoretically affirm
that the church is for "ALL" people, our actions and our words often
betray us. One of the first questions asked by church leaders when
considering some new outreach effort is often this: "But if we do this,
who will leave?" A church that exists for "ALL" will also ask, "And if
we don't do this, whom will we not reach?"

The apostle Paul helped us truly understand the heart of an "ALL"
oriented church when he shared these passionate words about his own
life and ministry:

To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become "ALL"
things to "ALL" people so that by "ALL" possible means I might save
some. I do "ALL" this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share
in its blessings (1 Corinthians 9:22-23, emphasis added by author.).

How do we change our focus? How do we become a more "ALL" centered
person that is part of an "ALL" focused fellowship?

There are no simple answers, but I do believe three spiritual
commitments will help.

* We get into the story of Jesus' life told in Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John and see how he dealt with people and included "ALL" kinds
of people in His circle of friendship. The Lord is our model,
example, and mentor in reaching out to "ALL" people -- insiders and
outsiders, men and women, powerful and powerless, young and old,
religious and non-religious, needy and influential.

The mandate of God is clear!

* We pray daily that God will open our eyes and broaden our
experience with people who are different than we are.

* We step out of our comfort zone to meet and learn about people who
are different than we are.

The mandate of God is clear -- our Father wants us to reach out to
"ALL" people. He wants us to be in fellowship with "ALL" different
kinds of folks. He wants folks from "ALL" kinds of different nations,
tribes, peoples, and languages to find their unity in His Son, Jesus.

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that
no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language,
standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were
wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb" (Revelation 7:9-10).

Most of all, Jesus wants us to begin this process of finding unity in
Him now. The first place people were identified as Christians -- people
like Christ, people who are Christ-followers -- was in Antioch, where
"ALL" races of new believers were welcomed into fellowship (Acts
11:19-25). Let's be that kind of people -- folks who welcome "ALL" in
the name of Jesus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it so hard to be a church that is committed to reach "ALL"
people?

How can we as believers reach out to "ALL" and not just to people just
like us?

I'd love to hear your response to these questions on my blog:
http://www.thephilfiles.com/2008/03/31/all/

----------------------------------------------------------------------

* Luke is the Gospel that most emphasizes Jesus' outreach to all types
of people -- men and women, young and old, Jews and non-Jews, religious
and non-religious. He especially emphasizes Jesus' ministry to the
marginalized and forgotten in society.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 53:5 and 2 Samuel 21:10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 31, 2008

MORNING:

"With his stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5

Pilate delivered our Lord to the lictors to be scourged. The Roman
scourge was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the
sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were inter-twisted every here and there
among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of
bone inflicted fearful laceration, and tore off the flesh from the
bone. The Saviour was, no doubt, bound to the column, and thus beaten.
He had been beaten before; but this of the Roman lictors was probably
the most severe of his flagellations. My soul, stand here and weep over
his poor stricken body.

Believer in Jesus, can you gaze upon him without tears, as he stands
before you the mirror of agonizing love? He is at once fair as the lily
for innocence, and red as the rose with the crimson of his own blood.
As we feel the sure and blessed healing which his stripes have wrought
in us, does not our heart melt at once with love and grief? If ever we
have loved our Lord Jesus, surely we must feel that affection glowing
now within our bosoms.

"See how the patient Jesus stands,
Insulted in his lowest case!
Sinners have bound the Almighty's hands,
And spit in their Creator's face.
With thorns his temples gor'd and gash'd
Send streams of blood from every part;
His back's with knotted scourges lash'd.
But sharper scourges tear his heart."

We would fain go to our chambers and weep; but since our business calls
us away, we will first pray our Beloved to print the image of his
bleeding self upon the tablets of our hearts all the day, and at
nightfall we will return to commune with him, and sorrow that our sin
should have cost him so dear.

EVENING:

"And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it
for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until
water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither
the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of
the field by night."
-- 2 Samuel 21:10

If the love of a woman to her slain sons could make her prolong her
mournful vigil for so long a period, shall we weary of considering the
sufferings of our blessed Lord? She drove away the birds of prey, and
shall not we chase from our meditations those worldly and sinful
thoughts which defile both our minds and the sacred themes upon which
we are occupied? Away, ye birds of evil wing! Leave ye the sacrifice
alone! She bore the heats of summer, the night dews and the rains,
unsheltered and alone. Sleep was chased from her weeping eyes: her
heart was too full for slumber. Behold how she loved her children!
Shall Rizpah thus endure, and shall we start at the first little
inconvenience or trial? Are we such cowards that we cannot bear to
suffer with our Lord? She chased away even the wild beasts, with
courage unusual in her sex, and will not we be ready to encounter every
foe for Jesus' sake? These her children were slain by other hands than
hers, and yet she wept and watched: what ought we to do who have by our
sins crucified our Lord? Our obligations are boundless, our love should
be fervent and our repentance thorough. To watch with Jesus should be
our business, to protect his honour our occupation, to abide by his
cross our solace. Those ghastly corpses might well have affrighted
Rizpah, especially by night, but in our Lord, at whose cross-foot we
are sitting, there is nothing revolting, but everything attractive.
Never was living beauty so enchanting as a dying Saviour. Jesus, we
will watch with thee yet awhile, and do thou graciously unveil thyself
to us; then shall we not sit beneath sackcloth, but in a royal
pavilion.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Heedfulness V. Hypocrisy In Ourselves"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 31, 2008

HEEDFULNESS V. HYPOCRISY IN OURSELVES

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto
death, he shall ask, and He shall give him Life for them
that sin not unto death.

1 John 5:16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1jo+5:16&sr=1

If we are not heedful of the way the Spirit of God works in us, we
will become spiritual hypocrites. We see where other folks are
failing, and we turn our discernment into the gibe of criticism
instead of into intercession on their behalf. The revelation is made
to us not through the acuteness of our minds, but by the direct
penetration of the Spirit of God, and if we are not heedful of the
source of the revelation, we will become criticizing centres and
forget that God says - ". . . he shall ask, and He shall give him
life for them that sin not unto death." Take care lest you play the
hypocrite by spending all your time trying to get others right before
you worship God yourself.

One of the subtlest burdens God ever puts on us as saints is this
burden of discernment concerning other souls. He reveals things in
order that we may take the burden of these souls before Him and form
the mind of Christ about them, and as we intercede on His line, God
says He will give us "life for them that sin not unto death." It is
not that we bring God into touch with our minds, but that we rouse
ourselves until God is able to convey His mind to us about the one
for whom we intercede.

Is Jesus Christ seeing of the travail of His soul in us? He cannot
unless we are so identified with Himself that we are roused up to get
His view about the people for whom we pray. May we learn to intercede
so whole-heartedly that Jesus Christ will be abundantly satisfied
with us as intercessors.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: The Promise of Jesus

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Promise of Jesus
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:18 NIV

Have you ever had "one of those days"? One of those days where nothing seems to go right? One of those days where everyone around you is in a bad mood? One of those days where YOU are in a bad mood? One of those days where you "can't win for losing"? If you are like me, those days will come, and when they do, they seem to rob you of the joy you have in Christ.

Jesus said there would be days like this. That is why He said "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

He didn't say life was going to be easy, or that we would have carefree days upon this earth. He said that we would have trouble. You know something, He was right!

What Jesus went on to say was that He had overcome the world. What this means for you and me is that the victory is already won! The outcome has already been decided! The blessing is already lined up for the children of God! You and I, if we have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, will one day share in the inheritance of Heaven. We will bask in the glory of God for eternity! We will reside where there is no more sorrow, no more heartache, and no more pain!

Yes, in this world there will be trouble, but this trouble will pale in light of the wonderous blessings God will bestow on His children when we indeed see Him face to face. This truth, and the hope of reaching Him, should give us strength to carry on with daily living. "Because He Lives I can face tomorrow, Because He Lives all fear is gone!"

The Promise of Jesus is greater than all our pain!

Praying with Paul : "Discipline in Truth"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

DISCIPLINE IN TRUTH

1 Corinthians 5:1-8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+5:1-8

Dear Father, who disciplines us for our own good,

Save your church from the sexual perversions that are taking place
in our society. Let us show your love to sinners and show them how
to receive forgiveness. But may we also say, as Jesus said, "Sin no
more!"

Help us to exercise discipline, even to the removal of unrepentant
members, delivering them over to Satan for the destruction of the
flesh so that their spirits may be saved in the day of the Lord
Jesus. Help us not to cover up sin and then boast about our
tolerance! For a little yeast can ferment a whole lump of dough!
Help us remove the leaven of sin, so that our churches may be like
pure unleavened bread.

Since Christ, our passover lamb, has been sacrificed, let us
celebrate the festival, not with the leaven of malice and evil, but
with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

In the name of Jesus I ask for wisdom in matters of discipline and
for the loving spirit of the Savior himself. Amen.

WJD! -- Trust Beyond Hanging onto Threads -- Mark 5:28-29

Trust Beyond Hanging onto Threads

The woman thought, "If I can touch his clothes, that will be
enough to heal me." When the woman touched his coat, her
bleeding stopped. The woman felt that her body was healed
from the suffering.

-- Mark 5:28-29 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Faith is an amazing thing! Jesus said that a mustard seed sized faith
could move a mountain. It moved more than that for this woman. All she
had was a "hem of the garment" sized faith, but it was more than
enough. If you struggle with believing, remember, a little faith is a
great start. Now act on it. Don't let it sit there and wither, but
reach for the "hem of the garment" and begin there. God will grow it as
you go!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father God, please help the following people that I know are struggling
with fully believing in Jesus ... Please, dear God, use me and others
in your family of faith to encourage them to step out on what faith
they do have and let you grow it from there. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Today's Verse : Proverbs 3:31-32

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 31, 2008

VERSE:
Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways, for the
LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his
confidence.
-- Proverbs 3:31-32

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Proverbs+3:31-32

THOUGHT:
While many are seeking a cure for the rampaging violence that
destroys lives, threatens schools, and makes our streets unsafe,
why has no one bothered to remind us what God's wise servant taught
us centuries ago? Let's not let any person, real or fictional, be
our hero if his or her fame is built on violence. The son of
Israel's most famous warrior understood this better than anyone.
Surely the Son of the Most Powerful on High said it best: "Blessed
are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

PRAYER:
Almighty God, save us from the violence of our culture and the
worship of violence that pervades our land. Please give us heroes
who are true peacemakers. In addition, dear Father, please give us
eyes to see them and the courage to honor them. In Jesus' name I
ask it. Amen.

We Are Made Alive with a Living Hope (1)

We Are Made Alive with a Living Hope (1)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1Pet 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who according to His great mercy has regenerated us
unto a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead, Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in offenses,
made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been
saved)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Part 1 of 2)
In 1:3 Peter tells us that we have been regenerated unto a
living hope. This hope in our pilgrimage today is for the
future. It is not a hope of objective things; it is a hope of
life, even eternal life, with all the endless divine blessings.
Peter speaks not merely of hope, but of a living hope. It is
not easy to explain what this living hope is. From experience
we know that the life-giving Spirit has come into us to enliven
us. Formerly we were dead, and everything related to us, in
particular any expectation for the future, was also dead. But
the enlivening which we have experienced through the life-
giving Spirit results in a living hope, in the hope that
everything related to us will become living.

When we were sprinkled with the blood of Christ, immediately
the life-giving Spirit came into us to enliven us. Using the
word "life" as a verb, we may say that the Spirit came into us
to "life" us. Formerly we were dead and altogether without
hope, but we have been "lifed" through the life-giving Spirit
unto a living hope. Now we have the hope that every part of our
being will be lifed. This is the living hope. To have a living
hope is to be lifed.

The regeneration of God the Father results in the hope that
every part of our being and everything related to us will be
lifed, enlivened. Everything related to an unsaved person is
dead. But with one who has been regenerated by God with the
divine life, there is the hope that everything will be
enlivened and thus become living.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Keep on Speaking, by Tom Norvell

A new week has begun. You're heading back into the workplace tomorrow.
Like every other week, it's a battleground. You know you'll be tested.
It is part of the life of a follower of Jesus. You know there will be
those moments when you feel the nudge from God telling you to speak up,
stand up for what is right, stop listening to the gossip, say
something. But you hesitate.

You want to speak up. You know you need to. But something stops you.
Sometimes it feels like your mouth is wired shut. Every time you try to
open your mouth your mind starts playing tricks on you, "Be quiet."
"Keep your mouth shut." "You'll sound silly." "Everyone will laugh."
"You will be rejected." "It's not a big deal. Just let it go. It won't
make any difference anyway."

Or, maybe you have been feeling compelled to talk to your neighbor, or
your co-worker, or your son-in-law about their walk with the Lord. You
really care about them. You notice things that concern you about the
life they are living, but you are afraid of "Turning them off." Every
time you see them you say to yourself, "Today is the day." You even
pray for the right opportunity. Suddenly there you are standing in the
middle of the frozen food section at the grocery store, and look up and
there they are. Not another living soul in sight. Just you and them.
One on one. You greet each other. You talk about work, the kids, and
the weather. In the back of your mind you are thinking, "Say something!
Invite them to lunch. Set a time to meet." But you don't. You smile and
say, "It's great to see you. See you later." They head off down the
aisle toward the dairy products. You head off to the checkout line
feeling like you blew it.

Why do we do that? Why are we reluctant to talk about the things that
matter most to us, to the people that matter most to us? Why is it so
difficult to say the things you know you need to say about God, about
Jesus, about His love for us, and our love for them?

The simple answer? Probably fear. Fear of embarrassment. Fear of
rejection. Fear of sounding foolish. Fear of being misunderstood.

The solution? Remember that God understands those fears and is already
thinking ahead of us.

Here's a good example. The apostle Paul is preaching in Corinth -- not
the kind of place where faith and holiness and living for God are the
common conversation. Nevertheless, he's doing pretty well. People are
listening. People are hearing him. People are responding to the message
of the gospel. In fact, we are told that, "In the course of listening
to Paul, a great many Corinthians believed and were baptized" (Acts
18:8 NIV).

Great! "Go Paul!"

But, obviously God knew what was ahead for him because the next verses
read:

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid;
keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one
is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this
city." So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word
of God (Acts 18:9-11).

If you read ahead, you'll see that things were about to get more
difficult for Paul. He eventually left Corinth for Syria, but he kept
on speaking. He did not allow his words to be silenced.

"For I am with you!"

Three quick thoughts from what the Lord said to Paul in his dream that
might help us to keep on speaking:

We need to speak up:
The Lord said, "Keep it up, and don't let anyone intimidate or silence
you."

We need to speak for Him:
Sometimes we need to speak with our words; always with our example.

We are not alone:
The Lord said, "I am with you" and "I have many people in this city."
Another way to say this is, "You have no idea how many people I have on
my side in this city."

If you are serious about living like a Christ follower, there is a good
chance that before this week ends, maybe before the day is over, you
will have an opportunity staring you in the face when you will hear the
Lord say, "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent." When
you hear Him say those words, don't stop listening, before you hear the
rest of His message, "For I am with you, and no one is going to attack
and harm you, because I have many people in this city."

Keep on speaking.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 53:12 and Lamentations 3:40

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, March 30, 2008

MORNING:

"He was numbered with the transgressors."
-- Isaiah 53:12

Why did Jesus suffer himself to be enrolled amongst sinners? This
wonderful condescension was justified by many powerful reasons. In such
a character he could the better become their advocate. In some trials
there is an identification of the counsellor with the client, nor can
they be looked upon in the eye of the law as apart from one another.
Now, when the sinner is brought to the bar, Jesus appears there
himself. He stands to answer the accusation. He points to his side, his
hands, his feet, and challenges Justice to bring anything against the
sinners whom he represents; he pleads his blood, and pleads so
triumphantly, being numbered with them and having a part with them,
that the Judge proclaims, "Let them go their way; deliver them from
going down into the pit, for he hath found a ransom." Our Lord Jesus
was numbered with the transgressors in order that they might feel their
hearts drawn towards him. Who can be afraid of one who is written in
the same list with us? Surely we may come boldly to him, and confess
our guilt. He who is numbered with us cannot condemn us. Was he not put
down in the transgressor's list that we might be written in the red
roll of the saints? He was holy, and written among the holy; we were
guilty, and numbered among the guilty; he transfers his name from
yonder list to this black indictment, and our names are taken from the
indictment and written in the roll of acceptance, for there is a
complete transfer made between Jesus and his people. All our estate of
misery and sin Jesus has taken; and all that Jesus has comes to us. His
righteousness, his blood, and everything that he hath he gives us as
our dowry. Rejoice, believer, in your union to him who was numbered
among the transgressors; and prove that you are truly saved by being
manifestly numbered with those who are new creatures in him.

EVENING:

"Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord."
-- Lamentations 3:40

The spouse who fondly loves her absent husband longs for his return; a
long protracted separation from her lord is a semi-death to her spirit:
and so with souls who love the Saviour much, they must see his face,
they cannot bear that he should be away upon the mountains of Bether,
and no more hold communion with them. A reproaching glance, an uplifted
finger will be grievous to loving children, who fear to offend their
tender father, and are only happy in his smile. Beloved, it was so once
with you. A text of Scripture, a threatening, a touch of the rod of
affliction, and you went to your Father's feet, crying, "Show me
wherefore thou contendest with me?" Is it so now? Are you content to
follow Jesus afar off? Can you contemplate suspended communion with
Christ without alarm? Can you bear to have your Beloved walking
contrary to you, because you walk contrary to him? Have your sins
separated between you and your God, and is your heart at rest? O let me
affectionately warn you, for it is a grievous thing when we can live
contentedly without the present enjoyment of the Saviour's face. Let us
labour to feel what an evil thing this is-little love to our own dying
Saviour, little joy in our precious Jesus, little fellowship with the
Beloved! Hold a true Lent in your souls, while you sorrow over your
hardness of heart. Do not stop at sorrow! Remember where you first
received salvation. Go at once to the cross. There, and there only, can
you get your spirit quickened. No matter how hard, how insensible, how
dead we may have become, let us go again in all the rags and poverty,
and defilement of our natural condition. Let us clasp that cross, let
us look into those languid eyes, let us bathe in that fountain filled
with blood-this will bring back to us our first love; this will restore
the simplicity of our faith, and the tenderness of our heart.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Holiness V. Hardness Towards God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 30, 2008

HOLINESS V. HARDNESS TOWARDS GOD

And He ... wondered that there was no intercessor.

Isaiah 59:16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+59:16&sr=1

The reason many of us leave off praying and become hard towards God
is because we have only a sentimental interest in prayer. It sounds
right to say that we pray; we read books on prayer which tell us that
prayer is beneficial, that our minds are quieted and our souls
uplifted when we pray; but Isaiah implies that God is amazed at such
thoughts of prayer.

Worship and intercession must go together, the one is impossible
without the other. Intercession means that we rouse ourselves up to
get the mind of Christ about the one for whom we pray. Too often
instead of worshipping God, we construct statements as to how prayer
works. Are we worshipping or are we in dispute with God - "I don't
see how You are going to do it." This is a sure sign that we are not
worshipping. When we lose sight of God we become hard and dogmatic.
We hurl our own petitions at God's throne and dictate to Him as to
what we wish Him to do. We do not worship God, nor do we seek to form
the mind of Christ. If we are hard towards God, we will become hard
towards other people.

Are we so worshipping God that we rouse our selves up to lay hold on
Him so that we may be brought into contact with His mind about the
ones for whom we pray? Are we living in a holy relationship to God,
or are we hard and dogmatic?

"But there is no one interceding properly" - then be that one
yourself, be the one who worships God and who lives in holy
relationship to Him. Get into the real work of intercession, and
remember it is a work, a work that taxes every power; but a work
which has no snare. Preaching the gospel has a snare; intercessory
prayer has none.

Praying with Paul : "Christ's Admonition"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRIST'S ADMONITION

1 Corinthians 4:14-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+4:14-21

Dear Father, king of the ages,

I am proud to be your child, and I want to listen carefully to
your admonition. Help me to listen to you through the words of my
spiritual fathers in the faith, your apostles. May I imitate them!

Remind me of their ways in Christ. From them and through them may
I learn that the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in
power.

Come to me, Lord, to chasten me and change me. But please show
your love in a spirit of gentleness, rather than with the fierce
rod of your anger.

I renounce all egotistical thinking and all arrogant talk. I turn
my heart and mind toward you and submit my life! You, Father, are
my God, my Lord, my Savior! You are worthy of all my love and
obedience.

In the name of Jesus I submit to your authority and ask your
blessings to continue forever. Amen.

Heard About Jesus

A woman was there among the people. This woman had been
bleeding for the past twelve years. The woman suffered very
much. Many doctors tried to help her. All the money she had
was spent. But she was not improving. Her sickness was
becoming worse. The woman heard about Jesus. So she followed
Jesus with the people and touched his coat.

-- Mark 5:25-27 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jairus (whom we met in the preceding verses) was a man and this is a
woman. Jairus was a religious leader and the woman couldn't practice
her faith openly because of her problem. He was powerful, but she was
poor and destitute because of her illness. While on the opposite end of
the spectrum from Jairus, the woman is in the same position -- she
needs the Lord and the Lord loves her. Both of these very different
people demonstrate their faith in the Lord and take risks to get his
help. They weren't disappointed in the result. So what makes it so hard
for us to demonstrate our need for the Lord and to take risks to draw
closer to him? Let's use the example of this woman and Jairus as our
invitation to leave stale and fearful faith behind and reach after the
Lord Jesus!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, the Almighty, give me courage, strength, and boldness to live my
faith, dependence, and need for Jesus openly before others. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : John 3:30

March 30, 2008

VERSE:
He must become greater; I must become less.
-- John 3:30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=John+3:30

THOUGHT:
For John the Baptist, this ultimate formula for greatness did
not take many words. What's your formula? Paul told the Galatians
that a similar formula was needed for them (Galatians 4:19). He
told the Colossians that this is what he expended every ounce of
his energy to have happen in the lives of Christians (Colossians
1:28-29). Paul told the Corinthians that this was what the Spirit
was doing in their lives (2 Corinthians 3:18). So, don't you think
that maybe this is the real formula for your life?

PRAYER:
Dear Father in heaven, in my heart and in my life may Jesus
become greater and I become less. In Jesus' name I ask it. Amen.
