=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

What Good Is an Appendix?, by Steve Ridgell

It was a question doubters, agnostics, atheists, seekers, or
smart-alecks loved to ask: "If God is so wise, why did he create an
appendix?" I thought it was a good question. After all, the appendix
served no real purpose. I was never much of a science student, but I
remember how it was described. It was an organ for which there was no
apparent function. Unless you count needing something to burst so you
could have emergency surgery. It was one of the trendy ways to mock the
concept of God.

Guess what? Scientists and doctors are now saying the appendix serves a
useful function in immune protection. It is a place for gut bacteria to
reside and helps prevent diarrhea. So much for my science teachers. It
now seems perhaps science does not know everything. Of course, real
scientists will tell you that up front. So why would anyone use science
to try to disprove the existence of God?

It appears that there is a reason why we humans have an appendix. I am
not really surprised. I believe God made us and that He knew what He
was doing. Am I simplistic? Maybe, but I think the appendix question is
like many of the other things in my life. There are things that I do
not understand. But I need to trust that someone does. This world, and
my life, makes sense when I trust there is someone who knows me and who
understands everything going in my life. For me, that someone is God.

Most of you reading this have made that same decision. This just
reinforces your conviction. But perhaps you know someone who wrestles
with the concept of God. Maybe this will give you something to talk
about with them. Or send them this article. Or send them to
www.hopeforlife.org. Or have them write me. I would love to discuss
where I have found hope, meaning, and purpose.

It is not that I have all the answers … and not just about my appendix.
I do believe I know who does have the answers. After all, he knew what
he was doing with the appendix.

I believe that God knew what he was doing when he created me.

Write me at tim@hopeforlife.org.

Morning & Evening -- Matthew 5:43 and 1 Samuel 30:13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

MORNING:

"Thou shalt love thy neighbour."
-- Matthew 5:43

"Love thy neighbour." Perhaps he rolls in riches, and thou art poor,
and living in thy little cot side-by-side with his lordly mansion; thou
seest every day his estates, his fine linen, and his sumptuous
banquets; God has given him these gifts, covet not his wealth, and
think no hard thoughts concerning him. Be content with thine own lot,
if thou canst not better it, but do not look upon thy neighbour, and
wish that he were as thyself. Love him, and then thou wilt not envy
him.

Perhaps, on the other hand, thou art rich, and near thee reside the
poor. Do not scorn to call them neighbour. Own that thou art bound to
love them. The world calls them thy inferiors. In what are they
inferior? They are far more thine equals than thine inferiors, for "God
hath made of one blood all people that dwell upon the face of the
earth." It is thy coat which is better than theirs, but thou art by no
means better than they. They are men, and what art thou more than that?
Take heed that thou love thy neighbour even though he be in rags, or
sunken in the depths of poverty.

But, perhaps, you say, "I cannot love my neighbours, because for all I
do they return ingratitude and contempt." So much the more room for the
heroism of love. Wouldst thou be a feather-bed warrior, instead of
bearing the rough fight of love? He who dares the most, shall win the
most; and if rough be thy path of love, tread it boldly, still loving
thy neighbours through thick and thin. Heap coals of fire on their
heads, and if they be hard to please, seek not to please them, but to
please thy Master; and remember if they spurn thy love, thy Master hath
not spurned it, and thy deed is as acceptable to him as if it had been
acceptable to them. Love thy neighbour, for in so doing thou art
following the footsteps of Christ.

EVENING:

"To whom belongest thou?"
-- 1 Samuel 30:13

No neutralities can exist in religion. We are either ranked under the
banner of Prince Immanuel, to serve and fight his battles, or we are
vassals of the black prince, Satan. "To whom belongest thou?"

Reader, let me assist you in your response. Have you been "born again"?
If you have, you belong to Christ, but without the new birth you cannot
be his. In whom do you trust? For those who believe in Jesus are the
sons of God. Whose work are you doing? You are sure to serve your
master, for he whom you serve is thereby owned to be your lord. What
company do you keep? If you belong to Jesus, you will fraternize with
those who wear the livery of the cross. "Birds of a feather flock
together." What is your conversation? Is it heavenly or is it earthly?
What have you learned of your Master?-for servants learn much from
their masters to whom they are apprenticed. If you have served your
time with Jesus, it will be said of you, as it was of Peter and John,
"They took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus."

We press the question, "To whom belongest thou?" Answer honestly before
you give sleep to your eyes. If you are not Christ's you are in a hard
service-Run away from your cruel master! Enter into the service of the
Lord of Love, and you shall enjoy a life of blessedness. If you are
Christ's let me advise you to do four things. You belong to Jesus-obey
him; let his word be your law; let his wish be your will. You belong to
the Beloved, then love him; let your heart embrace him; let your whole
soul be filled with him. You belong to the Son of God, then trust him;
rest nowhere but on him. You belong to the King of kings, then be
decided for him. Thus, without your being branded upon the brow, all
will know to whom you belong.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Abandonment"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 12, 2008

ABANDONMENT

Then Peter began to say unto Him, Lo, we have left all,
and have followed Thee... .

Mark 10:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mr+10:28&sr=1

Our Lord replies in effect, that abandonment is for Himself, and not
for what the disciples themselves will get from it. Beware of an
abandonment which has the commercial spirit in it - "I am going to
give myself to God because I want to be delivered from sin, because I
want to be made holy." All that is the result of being right with
God, but that spirit is not of the essential nature of Christianity.
Abandonment is not for anything at all. We have got so commercialized
that we only go to God for something from Him, and not for Himself.
It is like saying, "No, Lord, I don't want Thee, I want myself; but I
want myself clean and filled with the Holy Ghost; I want to be put in
Thy show room and be able to say - 'This is what God has done for
me.'" If we only give up something to God because we want more back,
there is nothing of the Holy Spirit in our abandonment; it is
miserable commercial self-interest. That we gain heaven, that we are
delivered from sin, that we are made useful to God - these things
never enter as considerations into real abandonment, which is a
personal sovereign preference for Jesus Christ Himself.

When we come up against the barriers of natural relationship, where
is Jesus Christ? Most of us desert Him - "Yes, Lord, I did hear Thy
call; but my mother is in the road, my wife, my self-interest, and I
can go no further." "Then," Jesus says, "you cannot be My disciple."

The test of abandonment is always over the neck of natural devotion.
Go over it, and God's own abandonment will embrace all those you had
to hurt in abandoning. Beware of stopping short of abandonment to
God. Most of us know abandonment in vision only.

Praying with Paul : "The Wisdom of the Cross"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE WISDOM OF THE CROSS

1 Corinthians 1:18-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+1:18-21

Dear Father, author of all true wisdom,

You have said, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the
cleverness of the clever I will thwart."

Where is the wise man? Where is the debater of this age? I thank
you, Father, that you made foolish the wisdom of this world.

For in the wisdom of your plan, mere "wisdom" has never enabled
anyone to know you.

People were looking for something great, as they understood
greatness. It pleased you, rather, by the "foolishness" of what we
preach, to save all of us who put our trust in you and your
manifested love.

May I never try to impress anyone with my wisdom. Instead let me
impress them with my faith in your wisdom.

In the name of Jesus and by his wisdom and authority I ask these
things. Amen.

To His Own

Jesus always used stories to teach the people. But when Jesus
and his followers were alone together, Jesus explained
everything to them.

-- Mark 4:34 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
While the parables were a mystery to some, Jesus made sure his closest
followers knew what he meant when he spoke them. We, too, can ask for
Jesus to make his truth clear to us. He has promised that the Holy
Spirit would use the Word and make the necessary impact on our hearts.
So when you open the Word, don't just go to read; go to offer yourself
to the Lord. Ask that his Spirit help you understand what you need to
know, convict you of where you have fallen short, and equip you to live
the kind of life that shows others the character of Jesus.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, as I open your Word, as I seek to know Jesus, have the Holy
Spirit penetrate my heart with your truth, open my eyes to my sins, and
equip me to live the life of service that glorifies my Savior. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: God's Comfort Three

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
God's Comfort Three
Comforting Words By: Ron Edmondson
Comfort, comfort my people, says Your God. Isaiah 40:1 NIV

God wants to comfort His people. He really does.

I have heard so many people saying I dont feel God or I dont feel close to God. I must tell you very plainly, it is not because of Gods lack of concern for you or His lace of a desire to offer comfort.

While talking with a person recently, I kept hearing her talk about how awful her life is right now. I listened for a long time, but then it was my turn to talk. Since she admitted that she wasnt close to God anymore, I began to talk with her about her relationship with Christ. The fact was that she didnt really have one. I wanted to ask the question how do you expect to have a close relationship with God if the two of you never talk?, but I resisted.

Let me express something that I learned soon into the meeting with this lady. You cannot be comforted if you do not wish to be comforted. Unless you want God to comfort you; unless that truly is your desire, then your heart will be closed to His comfort and you will remain uncomforted. I know that sounds like double-talk, but it is the truth. God will not force His comfort upon you. As strongly as He desires to give you comfort, He will not make you accept it.

Do you need to be comforted? Will you allow God to do the comforting? Until you open your heart to Him exclusively you will fail to receive the comfort He wholeheartedly desires to give you.

Today's Verse : Colossians 3:12

March 12, 2008

VERSE:
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and
patience.
-- Colossians 3:12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:12

THOUGHT:
What an incredible thought! We are dearly loved as God's chosen
and holy children. No wonder God calls us to a lifestyle of
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience! Think of
how often our Father needs to use these qualities with us! How can
we not share with others what God so abundantly shares with us?

PRAYER:
Father in heaven, thank you for valuing me so highly. While I
know some of the ways I fall short of what you want me to be, and
many reasons why you might not want to choose me as your beloved
and holy child, I thank you that you love me so richly and value me
so highly! Please work powerfully in me through your Holy Spirit to
make me more like you, not for my glory, but for yours. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Today's KJV Verse : Colossians 3:12

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 12, 2008

VERSE:
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels
of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
-- Colossians 3:12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:12&translation=kjv

Amen.
