Today's Verse : 2 Corinthians 2:14

VERSE:
Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in
Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the
knowledge of him.
-- 2 Corinthians 2:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+2:14

THOUGHT:
What do you smell like today? Is that question too personal? Not
to God! Paul says we are warriors returning from conquest with the
smell of victory incense permeating our presence. To those who see
us and know us, this aroma points them to God and his victory over
our wills and his victory for us over death. We are God's conquest
and conquerors. Let's live surrendered to his will, displaying his
grace and victory in our lives.

PRAYER:
Thank you, O LORD God Almighty, for your incredible victory over
sin and death. Thank you also for conquering my rebellious heart
and for blessing me with your incomparable grace. Despite the
challenges, difficulties, and pains in life, dear LORD, please help
me live my life as a victory march as I journey home to you. In
Jesus' mighty and holy name I pray. Amen.

Suffering God’s Judgment on the Cross (2)

Suffering Gods Judgment on the Cross (2)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 23:45 The sun's light failing; and the veil of the temple
was split down the middle. Heb. 10:19 Having therefore,
brothers, boldness for entering the Holy of Holies in the blood
of Jesus, (20) Which entrance He initiated for us as a new and
living way through the veil , that is, His flesh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matthew 27:51 tells us that the veil of the temple was torn in
two "from the top to the bottom." This tearing of the veil
signifies that the separation between God and man was abolished,
because the flesh (signified by the veil) of sin, of which
Christ had taken on the likeness (Rom. 8:3) had been crucified
(Heb. 10:20). "From the top to the bottom" indicates that the
rending of the veil was God's doing from above.

In Luke 23:44 and 45 we see two matters accomplished by God:
darkness coming over the whole land and the veil of the temple
being torn. These are signs proving that from the sixth hour
until the ninth hour, that is, from noon until three o'clock in
the afternoon. God came in to judge the Redeemer, who was dying
as our Substitute. His death was not for Himself; it was for us.
Therefore, we may call His death a vicarious death. This death
was accomplished by Him for us on the cross and under God's
judgment. God put all our sins upon the Lord Jesus. In the
words of Isaiah 53:6, "the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of
us all." The darkness signifies that God had put our sins upon
Him. Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 5:21 says that God made Him to
be sin for us. Hence, God not only put our sins upon Him; He
even made Him to be sin on our behalf. This took place during
the second period of three hours.

It was also during these hours that God forsook the Man- Savior
(Mark 15:34). Because the Lord is God's beloved Son, God always
delighted in Him. But because God regarded Him as our
Substitute, as the One who bore our sins and was made sin for us
in God's sight, God forsook Him. In the sight of God during
those hours the Lord was a totality of sin.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

To Know This Love That Surpasses Knowledge, by BooMama

I'll probably never know exactly what was going on in Alex's heart and
mind that day in the grocery store when my son screamed,
"JEEEEEEEEEEEE-SUS! COME INTO MY HEART!" and then a bit later said a
prayer for my toe cramps -- quite a mixture of faith expressed for the
grocery store. But, I do know that he's been chock-full-o-curiosity
ever since. So we've spent the last few weeks talking through all sorts
of four year-old questions about God. And while part of me thinks that
four is too young for a child to have any real grasp of sin and
sacrifice and atonement and resurrection, a much bigger part of me
knows that there is no faith as simple and profound as the faith of a
child.

I also know that this is the time to plant those seeds of faith and
then water them as much as we possibly can so that the little man's
roots will grow deep, so that one day he will be able, as Paul wrote,
"to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and
to know this love that surpasses knowledge -- that [he] may be filled
to the measure of all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:18-19
paraphrased).

So we answer Alex's questions. We talk about God. We talk about the
joys of knowing Him, of serving Him, of trusting Him. We pray that he
sees evidence of those joys as he watches his mama and daddy work out
their faith every single day.

And it has been, quite simply, one of the sweetest times of my whole
life.

Before Alex was born, I imagined that this child whose face I had not
yet seen would sit with me at a desk while I carefully read passages of
Scripture aloud. Everything would be Perfectly Orderly; I would Teach
With Care while my child Listened Attentively. Then we would clasp our
hands together and begin the walk toward faith with lockstep precision,
only stopping long enough for him to surrender to whatever calling God
might have on his life.

Because I wasn't idealistic or anything.

But the reality, as anybody with a little one knows, is absolutely
nothing like that. The daily process of teaching and leading a precious
little heart is about as methodical as herding a room full of cats. And
you know what else? It is hard. On every single level. So much of
parenting uncovers our own imperfections, and we are constantly being
humbled, broken and refined in our own lives while we try to nurture
the little lives that have been entrusted to us. Did I mention that
it's hard?

There are days when I'm really disappointed in myself as a mother; I
get so tired of struggling to balance the things I need to do with the
things I want to do, and as a result of that I am confronted with the
reality of my selfishness over and over again. It's a mighty good thing
indeed that I don't have to parent in my own strength, because I'll
tell you right now that I couldn't do it. I wouldn't last a day.

They're immeasurable.

But the rewards of parenting? They really are huge. They're
immeasurable. They're eternal. And the longer I'm a mama, the more I
find that the most teachable moments in terms of faith don't require
much organization or planning on my part. They don't necessarily happen
while we're sitting in a church service or when we're Reviewing Memory
Verses With Great Intention, though certainly I believe that God uses
those things.

For me the most breathtaking moments -- the times when David and I are
both able to share our faith with the most sincerity and transparency
-- are when Alex picks up a maple leaf from the ground and then says,
with wonder, "GOD MADE THIS!" Or when he runs into the house after
being outside and says, "Mama! I missed you! And I talked to Jesus
while I played!" Or when he's sick with a stomach virus and says,
through his tears, "Mama? Will you always take care of me? Will God
always take care of me?"

Or even when he puts his hand on my shoulder in the middle of a crowded
grocery store and prays for my toe cramps while we stand next to six
different brands of sour cream.

In many ways motherhood is absolutely nothing like I imagined, but so
much more than I expected. And for me, right now, the greatest joy is
sharing the Greatest Joy with a four year-old who may get a little
cloudy on the theological details -- but whose heart is wide open.

I cannot imagine any greater privilege.

Morning & Evening -- Deuteronomy 33:27 and Matthew 10:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, November 10, 2007

MORNING:

"The eternal God is thy refuge."
-- Deuteronomy 33:27

The word refuge may be translated "mansion," or "abiding- place," which
gives the thought that God is our abode, our home. There is a fulness
and sweetness in the metaphor, for dear to our hearts is our home,
although it be the humblest cottage, or the scantiest garret; and
dearer far is our blessed God, in whom we live, and move, and have our
being. It is at home that we feel safe: we shut the world out and dwell
in quiet security. So when we are with our God we "fear no evil." He is
our shelter and retreat, our abiding refuge. At home, we take our rest;
it is there we find repose after the fatigue and toil of the day. And
so our hearts find rest in God, when, wearied with life's conflict, we
turn to him, and our soul dwells at ease. At home, also, we let our
hearts loose; we are not afraid of being misunderstood, nor of our
words being misconstrued. So when we are with God we can commune freely
with him, laying open all our hidden desires; for if the "secret of the
Lord is with them that fear him," the secrets of them that fear him
ought to be, and must be, with their Lord. Home, too, is the place of
our truest and purest happiness: and it is in God that our hearts find
their deepest delight. We have joy in him which far surpasses all other
joy. It is also for home that we work and labour. The thought of it
gives strength to bear the daily burden, and quickens the fingers to
perform the task; and in this sense we may also say that God is our
home. Love to him strengthens us. We think of him in the person of his
dear Son; and a glimpse of the suffering face of the Redeemer
constrains us to labour in his cause. We feel that we must work, for we
have brethren yet to be saved, and we have our Father's heart to make
glad by bringing home his wandering sons; we would fill with holy mirth
the sacred family among whom we dwell. Happy are those who have thus
the God of Jacob for their refuge!

EVENING:

"It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master."
-- Matthew 10:25

No one will dispute this statement, for it would be unseemly for the
servant to be exalted above his Master. When our Lord was on earth,
what was the treatment he received? Were his claims acknowledged, his
instructions followed, his perfections worshipped, by those whom he
came to bless? No; "He was despised and rejected of men." Outside the
camp was his place: cross-bearing was his occupation. Did the world
yield him solace and rest? "Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air
have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head." This
inhospitable country afforded him no shelter: it cast him out and
crucified him. Such-if you are a follower of Jesus, and maintain a
consistent, Christ-like walk and conversation-you must expect to be the
lot of that part of your spiritual life which, in its outward
development, comes under the observation of men. They will treat it as
they treated the Saviour-they will despise it. Dream not that
worldlings will admire you, or that the more holy and the more
Christ-like you are, the more peaceably people will act towards you.
They prized not the polished gem, how should they value the jewel in
the rough? "If they have called the Master of the house Beelzebub, how
much more shall they call them of his household?" If we were more like
Christ, we should be more hated by his enemies. It were a sad dishonour
to a child of God to be the world's favourite. It is a very ill omen to
hear a wicked world clap its hands and shout "Well done" to the
Christian man. He may begin to look to his character, and wonder
whether he has not been doing wrong, when the unrighteous give him
their approbation. Let us be true to our Master, and have no friendship
with a blind and base world which scorns and rejects him. Far be it
from us to seek a crown of honour where our Lord found a coronet of
thorn.

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1th+3:2&sr=1

After sanctification it is difficult to state what your aim in life
is, because God has taken you up into His purpose by the Holy Ghost;
He is using you now for His purposes throughout the world as He used
His Son for the purpose of our salvation. If you seek great things
for yourself - God has called me for this and that; you are putting a
barrier to God's use of you. As long as you have a personal interest
in your own character, or any set ambition, you cannot get through
into identification with God's interests. You can only get there by
losing for ever any idea of yourself and by letting God take you
right out into His purpose for the world, and because your goings are
of the Lord, you can never understand your ways.

I have to learn that the aim in life is God's, not mine. God is using
me from His great personal standpoint, and all He asks of me is that
I trust Him, and never say - Lord, this gives me such heart-ache. To
talk in that way makes me a clog. When I stop telling God what I
want, He can catch me up for what He wants without let or hindrance.
He can crumple me up or exalt me, He can do any thing He chooses. He
simply asks me to have implicit faith in Himself and in His goodness.
Self pity is of the devil, if I go off on that line I cannot be used
by God for His purpose in the world. I have "a world within the
world" in which I live, and God will never be able to get me outside
it because I am afraid of being frost-bitten.

STRONG IN CHRIST

Ephesians 6:10-12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+6:10-12

Dear Father, King, and Commander of the holy armies,

Though you have lifted me up to reign in the heavenly places with
Christ, remind me that your armies are engaged in a fierce struggle
to take earth for heaven.

Don't let me relax as if there is no war going on. This is not a
time of peace. Never let me let down my guard and fail to look to
my armament. May I be strong in you and in the strength of your
might!

In the name of Jesus, the faithful warrior, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- The Lord Needs It! -- Luke 19:28-35

The Lord Needs It!

After Jesus said these things, he continued traveling toward
Jerusalem. Jesus came near Bethphage and Bethany, towns near
the hill called the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent out two of
his followers. He said, "Go into the town you can see there.
When you enter the town, you will find a young donkey tied
there. No person has ever ridden this donkey. Untie the
donkey, and bring it here to me. If any person asks you why
you are taking the donkey, you should say, 'The Master needs
this donkey.'" The two followers went into town. They found
the donkey exactly like Jesus told them. The followers untied
the donkey. But the owners of the donkey came out. They said
to the followers, "Why are you untying our donkey?" The
followers answered, "The Master needs it." So the followers
brought the donkey to Jesus. The followers put their coats on
the donkey's back. Then they put Jesus on the donkey.

-- Luke 19:28-35 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
What an attitude! If the Lord needs it, I'll offer it. If the Lord
wants it, I'll do it. No questions asked. No explanation needed. No
hesitation found. We've seen a rich young man turn back from following
because the Lord asked him something he wouldn't do. This is not the
case here. "The Lord needs it!" Such a simple explanation was met with
an equally simple response -- no words, just compliance. Little did the
owners know that their act of submission and obedience to Jesus' need
would bring about such a glorious event -- the Triumphal Entry that is
described in the following verses. So the question each of us needs to
ask today is this: "What does the Lord need from me?" May our responses
be the same as the unnamed owners of the donkey.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
God of glory and grace, my heavenly Father, please work on my heart. Do
what is necessary to keep it soft and responsive to your will. May I
always be open to whatever your Son needs of me. May I respond without
hesitation. Most of all, may you be glorified and your Kingdom be
served in my willingness to obey. In Jesus' name. Amen.
