Mustard Seed Thoughts: Man of Law 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Man of Law 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands. Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God. Deuteronomy 7:9; 21 NIV

Not only did Moses believe that God is God, but that belief led Moses to trust God with every aspect of his life. If Moses had to face battle; the battle was the Lords. If Moses had a leadership problem; he turned it over to the Lord. If the Israelites grumbled against Moses; Moses quickly grumbled to the Lord. One of the secrets to the spiritual success of Moses was that Moses trusted God for his source of strength.

What do you do when you are faced with a situation and you dont know how to handle it? Moses took these situations to the God he knew as God. Moses put his whole trust in the Living God. Do you realize that as a child of God, the same direction, comfort, and in struction that Moses received from God is available to you? God is an ever present help in time of trouble.

Moses didnt have an exclusive right to the favor of God. God is still blessing those who put their whole trust in Him today! Whatever your problem is, learn a principle of spiritual maturity from Moses: God is God and He can be trusted in everything!

Blessings Through Brokenness, by Kay Talley

As the shadows lengthened and the sun began to hide itself behind the
distant edges of the lake, the crowd lingered on its shore. They had
been there for some time listening to the wise words of Jesus. Surely
they were growing hungry and the opportunity to get food was some
distance away. Andrew, one of the disciples, spotted a young boy with a
small lunch (only five small barley loaves and two fish). How far would
such a meager amount go among so many?

Jesus instructed his disciples to have the crowd sit down. He took the
small loaves of bread and the fish, gave thanks for what He had, broke
the bread and made a banquet. Bread and fish in abundance! The blessing
came after the loaves were broken.

The world is filled with brokenness: broken homes, broken lives,
shattered dreams, and broken health. Sometimes we must be broken to
meet our full potential in kingdom service. We don't like to think of
experiencing great difficulties to help us grow spiritually. There are
indeed great blessings in following the statutes that have been laid
down for us, but we must realize that often the greatest blessings come
on the other side of brokenness.

We can trust God to gather us up into His loving arms and put us back
together

We might feel that there are so many scattered pieces and fragments of
our lives that we could not be "put back together." Just as the left
over pieces of bread and fish were gathered up, so can we be gathered
up and not wasted. "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing
be wasted" (John 6:12b).

As we encounter the blessings that we receive, even through brokenness
and suffering, we can trust God to gather us up into His loving arms
and put us back together.

It has happened for me! You can view my story at hopeforlife.org or

Are you presently experiencing a new life? God's word says, "if anyone
is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come!"

Morning & Evening -- Acts 5:31 and Psalms 91:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

MORNING:

"Him hath God exalted."
-- Acts 5:31

Jesus, our Lord, once crucified, dead and buried, now sits upon the
throne of glory. The highest place that heaven affords is his by
undisputed right. It is sweet to remember that the exaltation of Christ
in heaven is a representative exaltation. He is exalted at the Father's
right hand, and though as Jehovah he had eminent glories, in which
finite creatures cannot share, yet as the Mediator, the honours which
Jesus wears in heaven are the heritage of all the saints. It is
delightful to reflect how close is Christ's union with his people. We
are actually one with him; we are members of his body; and his
exaltation is our exaltation. He will give us to sit upon his throne,
even as he has overcome, and is set down with his Father on his throne;
he has a crown, and he gives us crowns too; he has a throne, but he is
not content with having a throne to himself, on his right hand there
must be his queen, arrayed in "gold of Ophir." He cannot be glorified
without his bride. Look up, believer, to Jesus now; let the eye of your
faith behold him with many crowns upon his head; and remember that you
will one day be like him, when you shall see him as he is; you shall
not be so great as he is, you shall not be so divine, but still you
shall, in a measure, share the same honours, and enjoy the same
happiness and the same dignity which he possesses. Be content to live
unknown for a little while, and to walk your weary way through the
fields of poverty, or up the hills of affliction; for by-and-by you
shall reign with Christ, for he has "made us kings and priests unto
God, and we shall reign for ever and ever." Oh!, wonderful thought for
the children of God! We have Christ for our glorious representative in
heaven's courts now, and soon he will come and receive us to himself,
to be with him there, to behold his glory, and to share his joy.

EVENING:

"Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night."
-- Psalms 91:5

What is this terror? It may be the cry of fire, or the noise of
thieves, or fancied appearances, or the shriek of sudden sickness or
death. We live in the world of death and sorrow, we may therefore look
for ills as well in the night-watches as beneath the glare of the
broiling sun. Nor should this alarm us, for be the terror what it may,
the promise is that the believer shall not be afraid. Why should he?
Let us put it more closely, why should we? God our Father is here, and
will be here all through the lonely hours; he is an almighty Watcher, a
sleepless Guardian, a faithful Friend. Nothing can happen without his
direction, for even hell itself is under his control. Darkness is not
dark to him. He has promised to be a wall of fire around his people-and
who can break through such a barrier? Worldlings may well be afraid,
for they have an angry God above them, a guilty conscience within them,
and a yawning hell beneath them; but we who rest in Jesus are saved
from all these through rich mercy. If we give way to foolish fear we
shall dishonour our profession, and lead others to doubt the reality of
godliness. We ought to be afraid of being afraid, lest we should vex
the Holy Spirit by foolish distrust. Down, then, ye dismal forebodings
and groundless apprehensions, God has not forgotten to be gracious, nor
shut up his tender mercies; it may be night in the soul, but there need
be no terror, for the God of love changes not. Children of light may
walk in darkness, but they are not therefore cast away, nay, they are
now enabled to prove their adoption by trusting in their heavenly
Father as hypocrites cannot do.

"Though the night be dark and dreary,
Darkness cannot hide from thee;
Thou art he, who, never weary,
Watchest where thy people be."

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Light That Fails"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 22, 2009

THE LIGHT THAT FAILS

We all with open face beholding ... the glory of the
Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+3:18&sr=1

A servant of God must stand so much alone that he never knows he is
alone. In the first phases of Christian life disheartenments come,
people who used to be lights flicker out, and those who used to stand
with us pass away. We have to get so used to it that we never know we
are standing alone. "All men forsook me . . notwithstanding the Lord
stood with me" (2 Tim. 4:16-17). We must build our faith, not on the
fading light, but on the light that never fails. When "big" men go we
are sad, until we see that they are meant to go, the one thing that
remains is looking in the face of God for ourselves.

Allow nothing to keep you from looking God sternly in the face about
yourself and about your doctrine, and every time you preach see that
you look God in the face about things first, then the glory will
remain all through. A Christian worker is one who perpetually looks
in the face of God and then goes forth to talk to people. The
characteristic of the ministry of Christ is that of unconscious glory
that abides. "Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he
talked with Him."

We are never called on to parade our doubts or to express the hidden
ecstasies of our life with God. The secret of the worker's life is
that he keeps in tune with God all the time.

Praying with Paul : "Examining Myself"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

EXAMINING MYSELF

1 Corinthians 11:27-32
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+11:27-32

Dear Father, giver of bread and wine,

May I never eat the bread or drink the cup in an unworthy manner,
lest I profane the body and blood of the Lord. Teach me to examine
my heart and mind thoroughly before I eat of the bread and drink of
the cup.

Keep me from eating or drinking judgment upon myself by failing to
discern the body of the Lord, and thus become weak and ill, or fall
asleep.

May I judge myself truly, so that I will not be condemned.

Most of all, help me submit to your judgment, Lord, by which you
chasten us so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

In the name of Jesus, who is the daily bread and wine of our
lives, I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- Affirming Faith -- Matthew 9:18-22

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Affirming Faith

While Jesus was saying these things, a leader of the
synagogue came to him. The leader bowed down before Jesus and
said, "My daughter has just died. But come and touch her with
your hand, and she will live again." So Jesus stood up and
went with the leader. Jesus' followers went too. There was a
woman that had been bleeding for twelve years. The woman came
behind Jesus and touched the bottom of his coat. The woman
was thinking, "If I can touch his coat, then I will be
healed." Jesus turned and saw the woman. Jesus said, "Be
happy, dear woman. You are made well because you believed."
Then the woman was healed.

-- Matthew 9:18-22 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Two powerful realizations are driven home by this story of the
desperate and outcast woman. First, even though her outward
circumstances and personal demeanor are the opposite of the synagogue
ruler with whom she shares the story, their core issue is the same:
faith that Jesus can deliver them from their desperate concerns. They
both act in bold ways to find that deliverance. Second, in both
stories, even though there is a huge crowd pressing upon Jesus, he
ministers personally and specifically to the needs of the people. What
so powerfully sets Jesus apart from healing charlatans is that he does
not use these events to focus upon himself, but to personally minister
to the needs of the people involved. These stories remind us again of
how powerful it is that God would become human flesh to minister to us
-- personally!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy Father, thank you for your love and compassion in sending Jesus. I
find it both awe inspiring and assuring to know that you walked among
people and ministered to them personally, not just spectacularly, in
Jesus. Thank you for reminding me that every human need, every
desperate struggle, is known to you and agonized over by you. In Jesus'
name I praise and thank you for this grace. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 15:58

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 22, 2009

VERSE:
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you
know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
-- 1 Corinthians 15:58
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+15:58

THOUGHT:
Our financial investment opportunities can be fickle. Friends
can disappoint you. Nothing is truly sure except one thing, or
better yet, our very special Someone! If we build our lives on his
work and his plan, we can hang in, persevere, and even triumph
regardless of what happens in this life.

PRAYER:
Give me courage and strength, O God, to not budge from my hope
and confidence in your Son to bring me to your Home. In Jesus' name
I pray. Amen.
