Today's Verse : Philippians 1:3

VERSE:
I thank my God every time I remember you.

-- Philippians 1:3
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+1:3

THOUGHT:
Certain people are blessings. It doesn't matter if we visit with
them on the phone, get an encouraging email, or see them
face-to-face. Any time we remember them, we thank God for them. So
let's follow Paul's example and let them know they give us reasons
to offer thanks to God.

PRAYER:
Loving LORD, thank you for ... (place the name of several people
who bless your life in here). They have blessed my life in so many
ways, so I'm asking you now to bless their lives with your grace,
power, and Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Direct Your Path

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Direct Your Path
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. Joshua 3:4a NIV

If your life is like mine, you will soon encounter something you have never experienced before. Will you know how to handle it?

Life is full of twists and turns, isn't it? Just when you think you have a situation figured out, the rules seem to change. The operative word in today's workplace is CHANGE. With each new step comes a certain amount of the unknown. Will we adapt to the change? Will our customers, our employees?

There are changes in the church today. Of course, God, nor His Word, ever changes, but the way we minister to people changes. The face of our churches is changing. We see more single family homes, there is a larger elderly population, and churches it seems are having to increase activities in order to continue to attract today's highly entertained society.

And we have changes in our own lives. Each of us has our own s et of problems, whether we are dealing with health issues, financial challenges, or relationship problems. Life is constantly sending us changes. I know a couple who recently retired. They had made elaborate travel plans, but the wife got very sick. Suddenly their plans changed.

So what is my point? In today's verse, Joshua's officers were preparing God's people for change. They were being instructed to be ready to experience some times they had never seen before. How were they to be prepared? By ridding their lives of sin and getting as close to God as possible!

Folks, this world is taking us places and exposing us to things we have never seen before. Are you prepared?

Get close to Christ and He will direct your path!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

7 Days of Love Challenge, by Rick Brown

We're used to outrageous Super Bowl ads. But one aired in Texas that
went over the top. A couple was celebrating their anniversary at a nice
restaurant. The husband blows his nose, answers his cell phone, and
leaves during dessert. On his way out he says, "Happy Anniversary,
honey."

A voice-over asks women, "Isn't it time for AshleyMadison.com?"
Thinking this might be a lead on something to get my wife for
Valentine's Day, I checked it out.

Imagine my surprise when the website greeted me with this tagline:
"Life is short. Have an affair." For $249 you can sign up and be
guaranteed one within three months. I decided it was not time for
Ashley Madison. It's bad advice. Problems in your marriage? These
people say run away from each other.

Others say run towards each other. One church issued a "seven days of
sex" challenge to their married couples. Kind of "Challenge Lite"
compared to another church who issued the same appeal, but for thirty
days. One pastor explained that they wanted people to move from
"whining about the economy to whoopee."

Misunderstanding his intent, I ran a search and found Whoopi Goldberg,
who on The View noted that it was a "man who offered the challenge."
Then she asked why the challenge wasn't to "Go out. Be friends. Get to
know each other. Go for a walk."

I wouldn't normally turn to Goldberg for advice, but I think she is on
track. I searched to see if Jesus issued a love challenge, and sure
enough, he did:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind ... Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew
22:37-39).

The love Jesus spoke of is agape love. It's an intimate love that seeks
what is best for the other person.

See if the results aren't "outrageous" in the best of ways!

Imagine a world where everyone actually did that. Husbands would do
their best to meet the needs of their wives. Wives would do the same
for their husbands. Those unmarried would trust God and love others by
remaining celibate. They would also learn self-control and what true
friendship means.

And, by the way, aren't those two qualities that actually enhance the
marriage relationship?

So I think it is time to offer a "7 Days of Love Challenge." For the
next seven days, trust God and love the others in your life in the way
he coaches you to.

Your friendships will improve.

And for the married out there, see if the results aren't "outrageous"
in the best of ways!

Morning & Evening -- 1 John 3:1,2 and Romans 8:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 13, 2009

MORNING:

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us,
that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world
knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we
the sons of God."
-- 1 John 3:1,2

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us."
Consider who we were, and what we feel ourselves to be even now when
corruption is powerful in us, and you will wonder at our adoption. Yet
we are called "the sons of God." What a high relationship is that of a
son, and what privileges it brings! What care and tenderness the son
expects from his father, and what love the father feels towards the
son! But all that, and more than that, we now have through Christ. As
for the temporary drawback of suffering with the elder brother, this we
accept as an honour: "Therefore the world knoweth us not, because it
knew him not." We are content to be unknown with him in his
humiliation, for we are to be exalted with him. "Beloved, now are we
the sons of God." That is easy to read, but it is not so easy to feel.
How is it with your heart this morning? Are you in the lowest depths of
sorrow? Does corruption rise within your spirit, and grace seem like a
poor spark trampled under foot? Does your faith almost fail you? Fear
not, it is neither your graces nor feelings on which you are to live:
you must live simply by faith on Christ. With all these things against
us, now-in the very depths of our sorrow, wherever we may be-now, as
much in the valley as on the mountain, "Beloved, now are we the sons of
God." "Ah, but," you say, "see how I am arrayed! my graces are not
bright; my righteousness does not shine with apparent glory." But read
the next: "It doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that,
when he shall appear, we shall be like him." The Holy Spirit shall
purify our minds, and divine power shall refine our bodies, then shall
we see him as he is.

EVENING:

"There is therefore now no condemnation."
-- Romans 8:1

Come, my soul, think thou of this. Believing in Jesus, thou art
actually and effectually cleared from guilt; thou art led out of thy
prison. Thou art no more in fetters as a bond-slave; thou art delivered
now from the bondage of the law; thou art freed from sin, and canst
walk at large as a freeman, thy Saviour's blood has procured thy full
discharge. Thou hast a right now to approach thy Father's throne. No
flames of vengeance are there to scare thee now; no fiery sword;
justice cannot smite the innocent. Thy disabilities are taken away:
thou wast once unable to see thy Father's face: thou canst see it now.
Thou couldst not speak with him: but now thou hast access with
boldness. Once there was a fear of hell upon thee; but thou hast no
fear of it now, for how can there be punishment for the guiltless? He
who believeth is not condemned, and cannot be punished. And more than
all, the privileges thou mightst have enjoyed, if thou hadst never
sinned, are thine now that thou art justified. All the blessings which
thou wouldst have had if thou hadst kept the law, and more, are thine,
because Christ has kept it for thee. All the love and the acceptance
which perfect obedience could have obtained of God, belong to thee,
because Christ was perfectly obedient on thy behalf, and hath imputed
all his merits to thy account, that thou mightst be exceeding rich
through him, who for thy sake became exceeding poor. Oh! how great the
debt of love and gratitude thou owest to thy Saviour!

"A debtor to mercy alone,
Of covenant mercy I sing;
Nor fear with thy righteousness on,
My person and offerings to bring:
The terrors of law and of God,
With me can have nothing to do;
My Saviour's obedience and blood
Hide all my transgressions from view."

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Devotion Of Hearing"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 13, 2009

THE DEVOTION OF HEARING

Speak; for Thy servant heareth.

1 Samuel 3:10
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1sa+3:10&sr=1

Because I have listened definitely to one thing from God, it does not
follow that I will listen to everything He says. The way in which I
show God that I neither love nor respect Him is by the obtuseness of
my heart and mind towards what He says. If I love my friend, I
intuitively detect what he wants, and Jesus says, "Ye are My
friends." Have I disobeyed some command of my Lord's this week? If I
had realized that it was a command of Jesus, I would not consciously
have disobeyed it; but most of us show such disrespect to God that we
do not even hear what He says, He might never have spoken.

The destiny of my spiritual life is such identification with Jesus
Christ that I always hear God, and I know that God always hears me
(John 11:41). If I am united with Jesus Christ, I hear God, by the
devotion of hearing all the time. A lily, or a tree, or a servant of
God, may convey God's message to me. What hinders me from hearing is
that I am taken up with other things. It is not that I will not hear
God, but I am not devoted in the right place. I am devoted to things,
to service, to convictions, and God may say what He likes but I do
not hear Him. The child attitude is always, "Speak, Lord, for Thy
servant heareth." If I have not cultivated this devotion of hearing,
I can only hear God's voice at certain times; at other times I am
taken up with things - things which I say I must do, and I become

PAGAN CHRISTIANITY! EXPOSING THE ROOTS OF OUR CHURCH PRACTICES, by Frank Viola, George Barna
Frank Viola and George Barna come to the startling conclusion that most
of what Christians do in church is rooted more in pagan culture than in

Praying with Paul : "A Grafted Branch"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

A GRAFTED BRANCH

Romans 11:17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+11:17

Dear Father, king of banquets,

Like that unknown hearer of Jesus long ago, I say, "How blessed it
will be to eat bread in the kingdom of God."

Please, Lord, don't let me be like those who were invited to the
marriage feast honoring the king's son but who scorned it in favor
of business deals and family matters. They were left out while the
king filled his house with those from the highways and country
lanes. Your ancient people, Israel, rejected your invitation, and
we non-Jews have filled your halls of festivity and salvation. But,
Lord, we are unnatural branches, grafted in. Let none of us become
proud. Rather, let every one of us stand in awe of your severity
toward those who reject your Son and your mercy toward those who
accept him.

May I continue in your kindness, lest I be cut off. And may your
ancient people repent and accept their Messiah, for this would be
life from the dead!

In the name of Jesus, the true Messiah of Israel, I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Waging Peace -- Matthew 5:9

Waging Peace

"What great blessings there are for the people that work to
bring peace! God will call them his sons and daughters."

-- Matthew 5:9 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"Wage Peace." That's a fairly popular bumper sticker around our neck of
the woods. It's the grown up version of the old Hippie song, "All we
are saying is give peace a chance." Deep in our hearts we know there is
a tremendous difference between being a peace lover and a peace maker.
Peace lovers like the calm and security and illusion of "giving peace a
chance." But peace has no chance unless it is waged! Peace is not a
state that results because of a lack of wars; peace is the result of
work, character, and sacrifice of those who are peacemakers. They wage
peace. They take risks; they forgive wrongs; and they compromise on
personal demands without sacrificing personal integrity. They are
willing to pay the price to make and preserve the peace with integrity.
No wonder God calls such people his children; they're doing what is
most like him!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Loving and merciful God, thank you for providing the sacrifice which
brought me peace with you. Forgive me when I have loved peacefulness
more than I have loved pursuing peace. Please give me the integrity,
character and fortitude to do today what brings peace in my work place,
my home, and my heart. Through the blessed name of Jesus, who purchased
my peace, I pray. Amen.
