=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

When Your Heart is Breaking, by Tom Norvell

Question: "Can you die of a broken heart?"

Answer: "I don't know, but there are times when your heart is breaking
that you wish you could die! It would be easier than enduring the
pain."

Some hearts break because of unfulfilled love. Some hearts break due to
unfulfilled dreams. Some hearts break because of the loss of a child,
the loss of a parent, the loss of a friend, or the loss of a mate. Some
hearts break when others are hurting and there is nothing that can be
done to help them or to ease their pain. Jesus expressed this as
described by Matthew, "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on
them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a
shepherd" (Matthew 9:36).

When your heart is breaking, you want help. You long for relief. You
long for someone who can fix it. Ron Peltzman's little children's book,
"Mr. Bell's Fix It Shop," is the story of Mr. Bell, a man who could fix
just about anything, "Even a broken heart."

In Michael Card's song, "I Will Not Walk Away," these words speak the
thoughts of a broken heart:

Don't read me pointless poems friend.

Don't diagnose. Don't condescend.

Though you may be right to disagree.

I need someone to weep with me.

When your heart is breaking, that is what we want, isn't it? We want to
know that someone can fix this. When it cannot be fixed, we want to
know that someone is there to weep with us. We don't always want
explanations, even though we may ask for them. We don't need another
book to read, or another famous quote, or another story that proves
"You are not the only one who has ever had a broken heart." We need
someone to weep with us. We need someone to comfort us.

He binds up the brokenhearted.

Job had that from his three friends ... for awhile:

Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven
nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his
suffering was (Job 2:13).

Unfortunately, for Job, they started talking.

Your heart may be breaking today. You may have spent the night weeping.
You may be longing for someone to come sit and weep with you. You may
be crying out to the Lord for help because you feel like a sheep
without a shepherd.

I do not promise a Mr. Bell who can fix anything. I cannot promise that
well-intentioned friends won't share "pointless poems" and useless
platitudes. But I do promise that you can cry out to the Lord and that
when you cry out you will be heard. And, I promise that the One who
hears is close and will provide you the comfort you need.

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit
(Psalm 34:17-18 NIV).

Jesus said the following passage referred to Him:

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has
anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind
up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and
release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of
the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort
all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion -- to
bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of
gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a
spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a
planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor (Isaiah 61:1-3
NIV).

When your heart is breaking, cry out to the One who hears and binds up
the brokenhearted. If your heart is breaking, cry out to the One who is
close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 67:6 and Psalms 10:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, April 27, 2008

MORNING:

"God, even our own God."
-- Psalms 67:6

It is strange how little use we make of the spiritual blessings which
God gives us, but it is stranger still how little use we make of God
himself. Though he is "our own God," we apply ourselves but little to
him, and ask but little of him. How seldom do we ask counsel at the
hands of the Lord! How often do we go about our business, without
seeking his guidance! In our troubles how constantly do we strive to
bear our burdens ourselves, instead of casting them upon the Lord, that
he may sustain us! This is not because we may not, for the Lord seems
to say, "I am thine, soul, come and make use of me as thou wilt; thou
mayst freely come to my store, and the oftener the more welcome." It is
our own fault if we make not free with the riches of our God. Then,
since thou hast such a friend, and he invites thee, draw from him
daily. Never want whilst thou hast a God to go to; never fear or faint
whilst thou hast God to help thee; go to thy treasure and take whatever
thou needest-there is all that thou canst want. Learn the divine skill
of making God all things to thee. He can supply thee with all, or,
better still, he can be to thee instead of all. Let me urge thee, then,
to make use of thy God. Make use of him in prayer. Go to him often,
because he is thy God. O, wilt thou fail to use so great a privilege?
Fly to him, tell him all thy wants. Use him constantly by faith at all
times. If some dark providence has beclouded thee, use thy God as a
"sun;" if some strong enemy has beset thee, find in Jehovah a "shield,"
for he is a sun and shield to his people. If thou hast lost thy way in
the mazes of life, use him as a "guide," for he will direct thee.
Whatever thou art, and wherever thou art, remember God is just what
thou wantest, and just where thou wantest, and that he can do all thou
wantest.

EVENING:

"The Lord is King for ever and ever."
-- Psalms 10:16

Jesus Christ is no despotic claimant of divine right, but he is really
and truly the Lord's anointed! "It hath pleased the Father that in him
should all fulness dwell." God hath given to him all power and all
authority. As the Son of man, he is now head over all things to his
church, and he reigns over heaven, and earth, and hell, with the keys
of life and death at his girdle. Certain princes have delighted to call
themselves kings by the popular will, and certainly our Lord Jesus
Christ is such in his church. If it could be put to the vote whether he
should be King in the church, every believing heart would crown him. O
that we could crown him more gloriously than we do! We would count no
expense to be wasted that could glorify Christ. Suffering would be
pleasure, and loss would be gain, if thereby we could surround his brow
with brighter crowns, and make him more glorious in the eyes of men and
angels. Yes, he shall reign. Long live the King! All hail to thee, King
Jesus! Go forth, ye virgin souls who love your Lord, bow at his feet,
strew his way with the lilies of your love, and the roses of your
gratitude: "Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all."
Moreover, our Lord Jesus is King in Zion by right of conquest: he has
taken and carried by storm the hearts of his people, and has slain
their enemies who held them in cruel bondage. In the Red Sea of his own
blood, our Redeemer has drowned the Pharaoh of our sins: shall he not
be King in Jeshurun? He has delivered us from the iron yoke and heavy
curse of the law: shall not the Liberator be crowned? We are his
portion, whom he has taken out of the hand of the Amorite with his
sword and with his bow: who shall snatch his conquest from his hand?
All hail, King Jesus! we gladly own thy gentle sway! Rule in our hearts
for ever, thou lovely Prince of Peace.

My Utmost For His Highest : "What Do You Want?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 27, 2008

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Seekest thou great things for thyself?

Jeremiah 14:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=jer+14:5&sr=1

Are you seeking great things for yourself? Not seeking to be a great
one, but seeking great things from God for yourself. God wants you in
a closer relationship to Himself than receiving His gifts, He wants
you to get to know Him. A great thing is accidental, it comes and
goes. God never gives us anything accidental. There is nothing easier
than getting into a right relationship with God except when it is not
God Whom you want but only what He gives.

If you have only come the length of asking God for things, you have
never come to the first strand of abandonment, you have become a
Christian from a standpoint of your own. "I did ask God for the Holy
Spirit, but He did not give me the rest and the peace I expected."
Instantly God puts His finger on the reason - you are not seeking the
Lord at all, you are seeking something for yourself. Jesus says -
"Ask, and it shall be given you." Ask God for what you want, and you
cannot ask if you are not asking for a right thing. When you draw
near to God, you cease from asking for things. "Your Father knoweth
what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him." Then why ask? That
you may get to know Him.

Are you seeking great things for yourself? "O Lord, baptize me with
the Holy Ghost." If God does not, it is because you are not abandoned
enough to Him, there is something you will not do. Are you prepared
to ask yourself what it is you want from God and why you want it? God
always ignores the present perfection for the ultimate perfection. He
is not concerned about making you blessed and happy just now; He is
working out His ultimate perfection all the time - "that they may be
one even as We are."

Praying with Paul : "Love Never Ends"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

LOVE NEVER ENDS

1 Corinthians 13:8-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+13:8-13

Dear Father, O God of love!

Let me possess love, for love never ends. I know that prophecy,
tongues, and knowledge will pass away, for they are all incomplete
and unfinished.

When the complete and perfect comes, everything incomplete and
unfinished will be gone.

Enable me to put away the things of childhood - the way I
reasoned, the way I spoke - and help me become mature. Now I see
through a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part,
but then I shall understand, even as I have been fully understood.

Faith, hope, and love are the truly enduring qualities, but you
proclaim love the greatest. Fill me with love!

In the name of the loving Jesus and by his authority I come to
you, asking these things according to his will. Amen.

WJD! -- Twisting the Most Basic Truths -- Mark 7:9-13

Twisting the Most Basic Truths

Then Jesus said to them: "You think you are smart! You ignore
the commands of God so that you can follow your own
teachings! Moses said, 'You must honor (respect) your father
and mother.' Then Moses also said, 'Any person that says bad
things to his father or mother must be killed.' But you teach
that a person can say to his father or mother, 'I have
something I could use to help you. But I will not use it to
help you. I will give it to God.' You are telling that person
that he does not have to do anything for his father or
mother. So you are teaching that it is not important to do
what God said. You think that it is more important to follow
those rules you teach people. And you do many things like
that."

-- Mark 7:9-13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus cites an example of the teachers' and Pharisees' hypocrisy of the
law in these verses. In this case, the hypocrisy was finding a
legalistic rationale to withhold support from parents, thus disobeying
one of the Ten Commandments. The brazenness of such rationalization of
one of the ten bedrock truths of their existence just proves how deeply
the practice of this kind of hypocrisy can become. Legalistic hypocrisy
abounds in all sorts of religious groups and religious experience.
Let's obey, not rationalize. Let's respond graciously to God's grace
and not seek to work our way out of our responsibilities to each other
and to him.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, thank you for such clear examples of legalistic hypocrisy. I
hate that Jesus had to see this in his day, but it helps me see what I
need to avoid and what your heart hates. Purify my heart and keep a
right attitude in me through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Proverbs 4:27

April 27, 2008

VERSE:
Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from
evil.
-- Proverbs 4:27

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Proverbs+4:27

THOUGHT:
When I see someone swerving in and out of their lanes of
traffic, I immediately go into a defensive driving mode. Whether
they are drunk, sleepy, or just plain careless, I know they are
dangerous. God wants us to know the same is true of us when we
allow ourselves to wander by and sample every form of temptation
available. Let's stick to the straight and narrow with our eyes
firmly fixed on Jesus!

PRAYER:
Loving Father, please forgive me for being so easily distracted
by sinful temptations. Please give me wisdom to see the things that
the evil one has designed for me and avoid them and resist them.
Please make Jesus, his costly sacrifice, and his holy life very
real to me today, and every day, as I seek to be your holy child in
the corrupt world in which I live. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
