=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

No Room for Death?, by Patrick D. Odum

But the truth is that Christ has been raised up, the first in a
long legacy of those who are going to leave the cemeteries. ...
Everybody dies in Adam; everybody comes alive in Christ. But we
have to wait our turn: Christ is first, then those with him at his
Coming (1 Corinthians 15:20-23 MSG).

Gerard Lalanne has a problem. And the ordinance he's passed is not
going to solve it.

Mr. Lalanne is the mayor of the village of Sapourenx, in the southwest
of France. The problem he's facing is a lack of space. Not in City
Hall, or in the retail district of town -- the lack of space he's
trying to deal with is a bit more problematic than that.

The cemetery of Sapourenx is full.

And apparently -- wait for it -- people are just dying to get in.

Mr. Lalanne has tried to be reasonable. He really has. But an
administrative court ruled against his proposal to acquire private land
adjoining the cemetery in order to increase its, uh, capacity. And so
Mr. Lalanne took the only recourse open to a politician. In an
ordinance posted in the city council offices, he informed the 260
residents of the town that they are no longer allowed to die. The
ordinance reads, in part, "[A]ll persons not having a plot in the
cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from
dying in the parish." "Offenders will be severely punished," it adds.

Something tells me that Mr. Lalanne's ordinance isn't likely to be
enforced. It isn't supposed to be, of course; it's intended as a
statement to those who the mayor feels have put him in an impossible
situation. "Oh, I can't expand the cemetery? Well, then, I'll just pass
a law against dying. That should solve the problem."

Would that it were that easy, huh?

Odds are that some of the people reading these words right now would
love to believe that passing a law could stop death. I know, in fact,
of several families touched by death recently. A mother and
grandmother. A husband, father, and son-in-law. A beloved uncle and
friend. Funerals seem to occur in bunches in my life, and lately I've
just been to too many. I know the families touched most deeply by those
losses would agree, and wish with all their hearts that there could be,
well, a moratorium on death.

And then there are those who haven't been touched by death yet, but who
are being stalked. A young man, younger than me, with cancer. An
elderly lady, another mother and grandmother. All of us, eventually,
feel death closing in on the people we love. And sooner or later, on
us. Remember the story of the servant who came to his master, terrified
because he had seen Death in the marketplace? "Death made a threatening
gesture toward me," the servant whimpers, and so the master makes
arrangements to send the servant on an errand to another town, Samarra,
so that Death won't be able to get to him. Then the master goes to the
marketplace and tracks down Death. "Why did you threaten my servant?"
he asks.

Death will be dealt with forever.

Remember Death's response? "I didn't threaten him," Death answers. "I
was just surprised to see him here in the marketplace, because I have
an appointment with him tonight in Samarra."

The moral, even for a people with the best medical care in history and
an extended life expectancy, is that Death catches up with all of us
eventually. "Everybody dies in Adam." That's Paul's way of saying that
we're not immortal. It's his recognition that the Fall was real and
that God's warning was true: by going our own way, human beings would
be the midwives that brought death into the world. We thought we'd be
like God, but now we have a problem: Death walks in our marketplaces
and takes who he wants, whenever he chooses. To the extent that we
share in the same human nature as Adam, we share in his death. And,
sadly, there's nothing we can do about it. Might as well pass a law
against dying, for all the good it'll do.

Happily, what we can do about it isn't the end of the story.

In the same way that we look a few days down the road toward Easter, we
anticipate the fulfillment of the hope to which Jesus' resurrection
attests. "Everybody comes alive in Christ," is the way Paul put it. In
the same way that we all share in death because of Adam's sin, we will
all share in resurrection because of Jesus' life. He identified with us
by sharing in death, even though he was not guilty of the sin that
brought it about. And he did this so that we can share in the victory
over death that his resurrection brought about. As surely as he was
raised to life, so will everyone who has trusted in him. As surely as
his tomb was empty, so will be the tombs of everyone who identifies
with him.

In effect, Jesus did what we only wish we could do. He passed a decree
against death; he prohibited death from exercising its power over human
beings. "The trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable,"
Scripture promises. "Then the saying that is written will come true:
'Death has been swallowed up in victory'" (1 Corinthians 15: 53-54 NIV).
We still have to die, and we still have to mourn, but because of Jesus
there is hope. We grieve for those we love while celebrating their new,
eternal lives. We face our eventual death with peace, not fear,
trusting in the promise that "Everybody comes alive in Christ."

So while there is no hope of a moratorium on death on this side of
Jesus' return, there is a solid guarantee that on the day he comes
back, death will be dealt with forever. That guarantee is as solid as a
rock rolled from the entrance of an empty tomb. It's as sure as the
hope of those disciples who first saw him alive again.

On that day the decree will come down from on high that no one who
belongs to Jesus is ever allowed to die again. Space in cemeteries, you
can be assured, will no longer be a problem.

Morning & Evening -- John 16:32 and Job 38:31

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 21, 2008

MORNING:

"Ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave
me alone."
-- John 16:32

Few had fellowship with the sorrows of Gethsemane. The majority of the
disciples were not sufficiently advanced in grace to be admitted to
behold the mysteries of "the agony." Occupied with the passover feast
at their own houses, they represent the many who live upon the letter,
but are mere babes as to the spirit of the gospel. To twelve, nay, to
eleven only was the privilege given to enter Gethsemane and see "this
great sight." Out of the eleven, eight were left at a distance; they
had fellowship, but not of that intimate sort to which men greatly
beloved are admitted. Only three highly favoured ones could approach
the veil of our Lord's mysterious sorrow: within that veil even these
must not intrude; a stone's-cast distance must be left between. He must
tread the wine-press alone, and of the people there must be none with
him. Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, represent the few eminent,
experienced saints, who may be written down as "Fathers;" these having
done business on great waters, can in some degree measure the huge
Atlantic waves of their Redeemer's passion. To some selected spirits it
is given, for the good of others, and to strengthen them for future,
special, and tremendous conflict, to enter the inner circle and hear
the pleadings of the suffering High Priest; they have fellowship with
him in his sufferings, and are made conformable unto his death. Yet
even these cannot penetrate the secret places of the Saviour's woe.
"Thine unknown sufferings" is the remarkable expression of the Greek
liturgy: there was an inner chamber in our Master's grief, shut out
from human knowledge and fellowship. There Jesus is "left alone." Here
Jesus was more than ever an "Unspeakable gift!" Is not Watts right when
he sings-

"And all the unknown joys he gives,
Were bought with agonies unknown."

EVENING:

"Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose
the bands of Orion?"
-- Job 38:31

If inclined to boast of our abilities, the grandeur of nature may soon
show us how puny we are. We cannot move the least of all the twinkling
stars, or quench so much as one of the beams of the morning. We speak
of power, but the heavens laugh us to scorn. When the Pleiades shine
forth in spring with vernal joy we cannot restrain their influences,
and when Orion reigns aloft, and the year is bound in winter's fetters,
we cannot relax the icy bands. The seasons revolve according to the
divine appointment, neither can the whole race of men effect a change
therein. Lord, what is man?

In the spiritual, as in the natural world, man's power is limited on
all hands. When the Holy Spirit sheds abroad his delights in the soul,
none can disturb; all the cunning and malice of men are ineffectual to
stay the genial quickening power of the Comforter. When he deigns to
visit a church and revive it, the most inveterate enemies cannot resist
the good work; they may ridicule it, but they can no more restrain it
than they can push back the spring when the Pleiades rule the hour. God
wills it, and so it must be. On the other hand, if the Lord in
sovereignty, or in justice, bind up a man so that he is in soul
bondage, who can give him liberty? He alone can remove the winter of
spiritual death from an individual or a people. He looses the bands of
Orion, and none but he. What a blessing it is that he can do it. O that
he would perform the wonder to-night. Lord, end my winter, and let my
spring begin. I cannot with all my longings raise my soul out of her
death and dulness, but all things are possible with thee. I need
celestial influences, the clear shinings of thy love, the beams of thy
grace, the light of thy countenance, these are the Pleiades to me. I
suffer much from sin and temptation, these are my wintry signs, my
terrible Orion. Lord, work wonders in me, and for me. Amen.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Interest Or Identification?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 21, 2008

INTEREST OR IDENTIFICATION?

I have been crucified with Christ.

Galatians 2:20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ga+2:20&sr=1

The imperative need spiritually is to sign the death warrant of the
disposition of sin, to turn all emotional impressions and
intellectual beliefs into a moral verdict against the disposition of
sin, viz., my claim to my right to myself. Paul says - "I have been
crucified with Christ"; he does not say - "I have determined to
imitate Jesus Christ," or, "I will endeavour to follow Him" - but -
"I have been identified with Him in His death." When I come to such a
moral decision and act upon it, then all that Christ wrought for me
on the Cross is wrought in me. The free committal of myself to God
gives the Holy Spirit the chance to impart to me the holiness of
Jesus Christ.

". . . nevertheless I live. . . ." The individuality remains, but the
mainspring, the ruling disposition, is radically altered. The same
human body remains, but the old satanic right to myself is destroyed.

"And the life which I now live in the flesh . . . ," not the life
which I long to live and pray to live, but the life I now live in my
mortal flesh, the life which men can see, "I live by the faith of the
Son of God." This faith is not Paul's faith in Jesus Christ, but the
faith that the Son of God has imparted to him - "the faith of the Son
of God." It is no longer faith in faith, but faith which has
overleapt all conscious bounds, the identical faith of the Son of
God.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Look Up Five

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Look Up Five
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts

"But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Luke 21:28 NASU

Someday it will all be over (but the shouting!) Someday the pain and suffering of your life will end. Someday your unanswered questions will be resolved. Someday the separation between man and His Creator will be removed completely. Someday you will be reunited with loved ones. Some day!

Ive quit predicting the future. I dont know when Christ will return. I dont know if it will be in my life time or a thousand years from now. All the signs point towards a soon coming Lord. There are days I long for His return more than others. Could it be today?

I know this though. I can have assurance that someday He will return. I am certain that He has a plan! I am absolutely positive that my God is controlling the outcome of my life; and it will be for my good! I am on the side of victory!

LOOK UP! Your redemption draws near.

GIVER OF LIFE, GROWER OF GRACE

1 Corinthians 3:8-9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+3:8-9

Dear Father, growth-giving God,

Both the planter and the waterer are equal and shall receive their
wages according to their labor.

But you give life! You are the giver of growth! Your servants are
just fellow workers for you. Our allegiance is not to them but to
you. We are your field, your building.

Build us into a magnificent temple! Grow us into luxuriant plants!
Show your creativity, your power, your wisdom, your bounty in us!

In the name of Jesus, the foundation of our lives, I ask all this.
Amen.

WJD! -- Identity Theft -- Mark 5:9

Identity Theft

Then Jesus asked the man, "What is your name?" The man
answered, "My name is Legion, because there are many spirits
inside me."

-- Mark 5:9 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Today, because of all the e-commerce and the widespread use of credit
cards, identity theft has become a huge concern. People find our key
identification numbers and then take over "our identity" and charge up
enormous bills in our names stealing our money using our credit. Satan,
however, is the greatest identity thief. When he gains control over a
human heart, that heart can lose its identity -- the values, the
commitments, the purposes of that person become lost as a new "evil"
personality begins to display itself. For this unfortunate
demon-possessed man, identity theft is complete. He lives alone in the
place of death spending countless hours in sub-human behavior harming
himself. He can't even give his name. His identity has become fused
with the evil presences that now live inside him. Let's never forget
Satan's intentions for us. He longs to rob us of our character, our
will, and our identity. Yet we can resist and overcome him by God's
power. The key to doing so, however, is a commitment to vigilance and
passion for the Kingdom of God and his righteousness.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O LORD, Sovereign God of all the earth, come and rule over my heart and
drive out from me the influence of the Deceiver and his demonic angels.
Purify my heart and remove from me any residue of sin that would open
the door for Satan to invade my heart and influence my life. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Romans 3:21-22

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 21, 2008

VERSE:
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made
known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This
righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all
who believe.
-- Romans 3:21-22

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+3:21-22

THOUGHT:
The Old Testament looks forward to a new time, a time when law
is not the basis of righteousness. The Law and Prophets testify to
this time. This righteousness comes from God and is built on the
sacrificial work of Jesus who liberates us from law and brings us
God's grace. The real issue for us is trust -- many today confuse
believing with simply thinking something in one's head, while the
Bible sees belief as something that involves our heart and changes
our behavior. So what is the basis on which you are building your
life today? What is the measure of your righteousness? On what is
your security tied? Thank God we can trust our life, our future,
and our salvation to Jesus Christ and not to law-keeping.

PRAYER:
Precious Father, thank you so much for providing me with a
Savior in Jesus. Thank you for declaring me righteous through the
sacrifice of your Son. Please help me as I entrust my life and
salvation to Jesus so that his life and character can be
exemplified in the way that I live. In Jesus' holy name I pray.
Amen.
