VERSE:
"I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, ... "So guard
yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith."
-- Malachi 2:16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Malachi+2:16

THOUGHT:
In a throw-away world, God wants us to know that he hates it
when we throw away people. Let's call each other to God's standard,
to God's holiness. Let's not let our spirits be corrupted by
selfishness and resentment. Let's not break faith with God by
treating those closest to us with contempt. And in a world where
people get broken by divorce, let's go find them, include them, and
bring them home to God's family for healing.

PRAYER:
Almighty God, please make our words strong, our commitments
lasting, and our lives faithful to the promises we make to you and
to each other. Thank you for the great example of so many of your
people who have had incredibly strong marriages. Bless me and my
house with a legacy of faithfulness that lasts for generations to
come. In addition, dear Father, please use me to bring home to you
those who have been broken and disheartened in marriages that
failed. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Desire Check

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Desire Check
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4 NIV

When I was about 12 years old, I remember praying that I would one day be a great father. It was really a short, simple request, but I said it to the Lord with great sincerity. Today, I am a proud father of two boys. While parenting does have its challenges, I am proud of the way God has gifted me with the ability to parent. Fathering has been one of life's greatest joys.

Why am I enjoying some success as a father? (Recognizing that I am certainly not through!) I believe it is because the desire of my heart was directly in line with the will of God. I wanted to be a great father, and God's will is that men will accept the responsibility of raising their families in a Godly home.

What are your desires? What in your life are you trying to obtain? Let me ask you, do they match with the will of God? Can God be glorified if He grants you your request? Your plans will automatically be successful when the things you want from life are identical to what God wants for you.

Line up your desires with the desires of God and you will see all your plans succeed!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Snapshot, by Phil Ware

Every-once-in-awhile, a moment "happens" in our lives that captures
truth in a snapshot. When you hold that snapshot in your heart, it
becomes a window to something real and holy and precious. Jesus did
this with stories — we sometimes call these stories parables. Every
great communicator has a way of helping us do this. We also do this for
ourselves to help us remember emotionally-charged truth as more than
just a collection of facts and data bits.

At lunch yesterday, our group of bloggers went to an African hotel to
eat Chinese food with a bunch of people we had never met. Those
circumstances don't exactly sound like a recipe for social success.
This lunch, however, was unlike any of us had ever shared ... and it
was wonderful.

Several days earlier, I had been privileged to meet with the little
girl our family sponsors with Compassion. Her name is Doreen. Now, for
the first time, the rest of the group was getting to meet the child
their families were sponsoring. I had an idea what they would
experience, although each of these visits is as unique as the people
involved. They would dance the strange uncomfortable dance I did at
first with Doreen as we tried to get acquainted. Then they would share
gifts and find a way to communicate. Before long, they would lose their
hearts to these precious children. By the time lunch was over, none of
them would ever be the same. (Just let them tell their own stories and
you will see this is true: you can catch those by reading their blogs.)

What I was not prepared to experience was meeting an eleven year old
boy named Derrick. Derrick is the sponsored child of BooMama's brother.
He came along to meet BooMama, but of course she needed to bond with
her sponsored child, a precious little girl whom she held most of the
lunch. Derrick is a sweet boy, but in such a setting, he was naturally
shy. He would have missed out on much of the magic of this moment. So I
was privileged to step in and have lunch with Derrick.

Sophie (aka BooMama) had tried to explain to Derrick who her brother
and his family were and how it all fit. She spent some precious moments
with Derrick, but when Sophie's tiny little girl was presented to her,
it was time for me to try to get acquainted with Derrick and let her
have her special moment with her family's sponsored child.

So I stepped in ... well, stumbled in is probably more accurate. Now
Derrick was a master at one word answers to my questions. So we looked
at pictures of BooMama's now famous family. Then we tried drawing. Then
we looked at other gifts given to him in his gift backpack. Then we
talked about what Derrick wanted to be when he grew up — a mechanic. We
visited about his family — four brothers, a mother, and his father was
not alive. Then we ate and talked about food. He didn't eat a whole
lot.

There was still a lot of time left to fill, and I was running out of
options. It wasn't forced communication — it was pleasant and
comfortable — we just lacked that spark to really make things
memorable. Then, I noticed Derrick was interested in my camera. Bingo!
I quit taking pictures, and he started! We found that magic moment. A
sweet snapshot where Derrick's personality came alive.

He figured out the intricacies of the digital camera as if he had
designed it. Motion video, stills, looking at previous pictures,
framing pictures, and taking pictures ... He took lots of pictures. His
wonderful smile lit up our end of the table. He became more animated.
He moved all around our table taking pictures — in fact, all the
pictures on this page, and many more, were taken by Derrick!

Now isn't it your turn to have such a moment?

By the end of lunch, Derrick was having a blast playing with his soccer
ball or taking pictures or visiting with friends. Yet when all was said
and done, and as much as these moments were precious, none of these
moments was the snapshot of grace that I will treasure most. As we were
getting ready for the hard good-byes, Derrick and I hugged,
"high-fived," and then he looked at me with that wide smile and a
sparkle in his eyes and asked, "When are you coming back to see me?"

He had no idea how far away any of us lived. He just knew that all the
distance could collapse in a moment of grace, a digital camera, and a
little boy who found out that he was truly special to a number of
people from half a world away who would instantly love him.

What a holy moment! What a precious snapshot! What a privilege of grace
to get to experience it!

Now isn't it your turn to have such a moment?

You can change the life of a child, too!

Morning & Evening -- 2 Peter 3:18 and Psalms 45:8

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 15, 2008

MORNING:

"To him be glory both now and forever."
-- 2 Peter 3:18

Heaven will be full of the ceaseless praises of Jesus. Eternity! thine
unnumbered years shall speed their everlasting course, but forever and
for ever, "to him be glory." Is he not a "Priest for ever after the
order of Melchizedek"? "To him be glory." Is he not king for ever?-King
of kings and Lord of lords, the everlasting Father? "To him be glory
for ever." Never shall his praises cease. That which was bought with
blood deserves to last while immortality endures. The glory of the
cross must never be eclipsed; the lustre of the grave and of the
resurrection must never be dimmed. O Jesus! thou shalt be praised for
ever. Long as immortal spirits live-long as the Father's throne
endures-for ever, for ever, unto thee shall be glory. Believer, you are
anticipating the time when you shall join the saints above in ascribing
all glory to Jesus; but are you glorifying him now? The apostle's words
are, "To him be glory both now and for ever." Will you not this day
make it your prayer? "Lord, help me to glorify thee; I am poor, help me
to glorify thee by contentment; I am sick, help me to give thee honour
by patience; I have talents, help me to extol thee by spending them for
thee; I have time, Lord, help me to redeem it, that I may serve thee; I
have a heart to feel, Lord, let that heart feel no love but thine, and
glow with no flame but affection for thee; I have a head to think,
Lord, help me to think of thee and for thee; thou hast put me in this
world for something, Lord, show me what that is, and help me to work
out my life-purpose: I cannot do much, but as the widow put in her two
mites, which were all her living, so, Lord, I cast my time and eternity
too into thy treasury; I am all thine; take me, and enable me to
glorify thee now, in all that I say, in all that I do, and with all
that I have."

EVENING:

"Whereby they have made thee glad."
-- Psalms 45:8

And who are thus privileged to make the Saviour glad? His church-his
people. But is it possible? He makes us glad, but how can we make him
glad? By our love. Ah! we think it so cold, so faint; and so, indeed,
we must sorrowfully confess it to be, but it is very sweet to Christ.
Hear his own eulogy of that love in the golden Canticle: "How fair is
thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine!"
See, loving heart, how he delights in you. When you lean your head on
his bosom, you not only receive, but you give him joy; when you gaze
with love upon his all-glorious face, you not only obtain comfort, but
impart delight. Our praise, too, gives him joy-not the song of the lips
alone, but the melody of the heart's deep gratitude. Our gifts, too,
are very pleasant to him; he loves to see us lay our time, our talents,
our substance upon the altar, not for the value of what we give, but
for the sake of the motive from which the gift springs. To him the
lowly offerings of his saints are more acceptable than the thousands of
gold and silver. Holiness is like frankincense and myrrh to him.
Forgive your enemy, and you make Christ glad; distribute of your
substance to the poor, and he rejoices; be the means of saving souls,
and you give him to see of the travail of his soul; proclaim his
gospel, and you are a sweet savour unto him; go among the ignorant and
lift up the cross, and you have given him honour. It is in your power
even now to break the alabaster box, and pour the precious oil of joy
upon his head, as did the woman of old, whose memorial is to this day
set forth wherever the gospel is preached. Will you be backward then?
Will you not perfume your beloved Lord with the myrrh and aloes, and
cassia, of your heart's praise? Yes, ye ivory palaces, ye shall hear
the songs of the saints!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Am I My Brother's Keeper?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 15, 2008

AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER?

None of us liveth to himself.

Romans 14:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+14:7&sr=1

Has it ever dawned on you that you are responsible for other souls
spiritually before God? For instance, if I allow any private
deflection from God in my life, everyone about me suffers. We "sit
together in heavenly places." "Whether one member suffer, all the
members suffer with it." When once you allow physical selfishness,
mental slovenliness, moral obtuseness, spiritual density, everyone
belonging to your crowd will suffer. "But," you say, "who is
sufficient for these things if you erect a standard like that?" "Our
sufficiency is of God," and of Him alone.

"Ye shall be My witnesses." How many of us are willing to spend every
ounce of nervous energy, of mental, moral and spiritual energy we
have for Jesus Christ? That is the meaning of a witness in God's
sense of the word. It takes time, be patient with yourself. God has
left us on the earth - what for? To be saved and sanctified? No, to
be at it for Him. Am I willing to be broken bread and poured out wine
for Him? To be spoilt for this age, for this life, to be spoilt from
every standpoint but one - saving as I can disciple men and women to
the Lord Jesus Christ. My life as a worker is the way I say "thank
you" to God for His unspeakable salvation. Remember it is quite
possible for any one of us to be flung out as reprobate silver - ". .
. lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I myself
should be a castaway."

Praying with Paul : "God's Reconciliation"

GOD'S RECONCILIATION

Romans 11:33-36

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+11:33-36

Dear Father,

How great your mercy is! How deep your riches and wisdom and
knowledge are! How unsearchable are your judgments! How inscrutable
your ways!

No one can know your mind totally! No one can be your counsellor!
No one can give you a gift! Because from you and through you and to
you are all things!

May my faith never falter, my belief never fail. Continue your
process of reconciliation among all your people, Jews and Gentiles.

In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior. Amen.

WJD! -- Murderous Intentions -- Mark 3:6

Murderous Intentions

Then the Pharisees left and made plans with the Herodians
about a way to kill Jesus.

-- Mark 3:6 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
When we get into a defensive posture toward those who disagree with us
religiously, we can very quickly find ourselves looking to destroy
their argument, destroy their faith, and yes, even destroy them. The
Pharisees and the supporters of Herod were bitter enemies. Yet their
common hatred of Jesus brought them together to plan what is evil.
Hatred and a hard heart go together. Both lead to death -- not
necessarily the death of the target of our hate, but our own spiritual
death. When we find ourselves siding with others who dislike us and
when we find ourselves scheming what we know is evil, we must
immediately be open to God and ask him to change our ways. We must seek
his wisdom and his insight into the situation.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous God, please guide me into your truth. I want to
honor and serve you with my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I don't
want my religious passions to be used to lead me astray. Even more,
dear Father, I don't want my religious passions to cause harm to
anyone, especially those who are seeking you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
