Today's Verse : John 2:24-25

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 25, 2008

VERSE:
Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He
did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a
man.
-- John 2:24-25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=John+2:24-25

THOUGHT:
If we've spent a bunch of time reading the Gospels (Matthew,
Mark, Luke, & John in the New Testament), we probably have already
come to the conclusion stated in our verses. So, if we want to know
how to better live as a person, the place to start is Jesus. We
need to follow his example and follow his teachings. It is not an
easy path, but it is an authentic and transformational journey. As
we learn that we can trust him because he knows us, we see our
lives take on a greater depth and richer meaning.

PRAYER:
Thank you, Father, for sending your Son to show me how to live
and to teach me your truth. In the name of your precious Son,
Jesus, I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

The Center of God's Will, by Tom Norvell

"The safest place in the world is to be in the center of God's will."

Those were the words of a woman who has spend most of her life sharing
the love of Jesus Christ in a culture so different from ours that most
of us who were listening to her story could not imagine living the life
she described. She has moved into a culture where life-threatening
experiences were the norm, the language was completely unfamiliar, and
where the customs and way of life were completely different from
anything she had ever known. By following God's lead, she has seen and
experienced His power, His mercy, and His protection. As she told her
story, she stated with great confidence that "The safest place in the
world is to be in the center of God's will."

Let that thought sink in: "The safest place in the world is to be in
the center of God's will."

When one reads the Scriptures or studies the lives of the faithful from
the pages of God's Word, it would be difficult to argue anything else.
Throughout the pages of the Bible, we read of men and women who lived
through difficult times, survived seemingly impossible situations, left
the familiar for the unknown, endured life-threatening conditions, and
some lost their lives for their mission and their faithfulness. But
they honored and pleased God! They lived and rested in His promises.
They were in the center of God's will.

For this seventy-five year old woman, there is no doubt the safest
place in the world is to be in the center of God's will. Scripture
confirms it as true. What about you? Do you believe that the safest
place in the world is to be in the center of God's will? Do you agree
that the safest place in the world is to be in the center of God's
will?

To reverse the thought: if the safest place in the world is to be in
the center of God's will, then the most dangerous place in the world is
to be out of God's will.

It's a serous matter which leads to a very serious question: How do I
know if I am at the center of God's will?

A similar question was posed to Jesus by the religious leaders of His
day. They asked it in a different way, and their motives were not so
pure, but their desire to know and be in God's will was just as real as
ours:

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got
together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this
question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and
greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your
neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these
two commandments"

(Matthew 22:34-40).

There's our answer. Love God above all else. Love people as much as you
love yourself. Love God with your whole heart, and love people like God
loves them. If we live like that we can have confidence that we are at
the center of God's will, and thus be in the safest place in the world.

We can live that kind of life.

Want to feel safe? Love God and love people.

Want to be confident that you are doing God's will? Love God and love
people.

Want to live a life that has meaning and purpose and value? Love God
and love people.

A life lived that pleases God and lived to love people is a life lived
on the edge, a life filled with adventure, and perhaps a life of
danger. But, it is also life at the center of God's will.

We can live that kind of life. We can enjoy that kind of life. We can
enjoy it. Then, we can share that kind of life.

Let's do it! Let's live in the safest place in the world ... the center
of God's will.

Morning & Evening -- Ezekiel 34:26 and Zechariah 1:12,13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, February 24, 2008

MORNING:

"I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there
shall be showers of blessing."
-- Ezekiel 34:26

Here is sovereign mercy-"I will give them the shower in its season." Is
it not sovereign, divine mercy?-for who can say, "I will give them
showers," except God? There is only one voice which can speak to the
clouds, and bid them beget the rain. Who sendeth down the rain upon the
earth? Who scattereth the showers upon the green herb? Do not I, the
Lord? So grace is the gift of God, and is not to be created by man. It
is also needed grace. What would the ground do without showers? You may
break the clods, you may sow your seeds, but what can you do without
the rain? As absolutely needful is the divine blessing. In vain you
labour, until God the plenteous shower bestows, and sends salvation
down. Then, it is plenteous grace. "I will send them showers." It does
not say, "I will send them drops," but "showers." So it is with grace.
If God gives a blessing, he usually gives it in such a measure that
there is not room enough to receive it. Plenteous grace! Ah! we want
plenteous grace to keep us humble, to make us prayerful, to make us
holy; plenteous grace to make us zealous, to preserve us through this
life, and at last to land us in heaven. We cannot do without saturating
showers of grace. Again, it is seasonable grace. "I will cause the
shower to come down in his season." What is thy season this morning? Is
it the season of drought? Then that is the season for showers. Is it a
season of great heaviness and black clouds? Then that is the season for
showers. "As thy days so shall thy strength be." And here is a varied
blessing. "I will give thee showers of blessing." The word is in the
plural. All kinds of blessings God will send. All God's blessings go
together, like links in a golden chain. If he gives converting grace,
he will also give comforting grace. He will send "showers of blessing."
Look up to-day, O parched plant, and open thy leaves and flowers for a
heavenly watering.

EVENING:

"O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy upon
Jerusalem? ... And the Lord answered the angel ... with good
words and comfortable words."
-- Zechariah 1:12,13

What a sweet answer to an anxious enquiry! This night let us rejoice in
it. O Zion, there are good things in store for thee; thy time of
travail shall soon be over; thy children shall be brought forth; thy
captivity shall end. Bear patiently the rod for a season, and under the
darkness still trust in God, for his love burneth towards thee. God
loves the church with a love too deep for human imagination: he loves
her with all his infinite heart. Therefore let her sons be of good
courage; she cannot be far from prosperity to whom God speaketh "good
words and comfortable words." What these comfortable words are the
prophet goes on to tell us: "I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion
with a great jealousy." The Lord loves his church so much that he
cannot bear that she should go astray to others; and when she has done
so, he cannot endure that she should suffer too much or too heavily. He
will not have his enemies afflict her: he is displeased with them
because they increase her misery. When God seems most to leave his
church, his heart is warm towards her. History shows that whenever God
uses a rod to chasten his servants, he always breaks it afterwards, as
if he loathed the rod which gave his children pain. "Like as a father
pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him." God hath
not forgotten us because he smites-his blows are no evidences of want
of love. If this is true of his church collectively, it is of necessity
true also of each individual member. You may fear that the Lord has
passed you by, but it is not so: he who counts the stars, and calls
them by their names, is in no danger of forgetting his own children. He
knows your case as thoroughly as if you were the only creature he ever
made, or the only saint he ever loved. Approach him and be at peace.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Delight Of Sacrifice"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 24, 2008

THE DELIGHT OF SACRIFICE

I will very gladly spend and be spent for you;

2 Corinthians 12:15

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+12:15&sr=1

When the Spirit of God has shed abroad the love of God in our hearts,
we begin deliberately to identify ourselves with Jesus Christ's
interests in other people, and Jesus Christ is interested in every
kind of man there is. We have no right in Christian work to be guided
by our affinities; this is one of the biggest tests of our
relationship to Jesus Christ. The delight of sacrifice is that I lay
down my life for my Friend, not fling it away, but deliberately lay
my life out for Him and His interests in other people, not for a
cause. Paul spent himself for one purpose only - that he might win
men to Jesus Christ. Paul attracted to Jesus all the time, never to
himself. "I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means
save some." When a man says he must develop a holy life alone with
God, he is of no more use to his fellow men: he puts himself on a
pedestal, away from the common run of men. Paul became a sacramental
personality; wherever he went, Jesus Christ helped Himself to his
life. Many of us are after our own ends, and Jesus Christ cannot help
Himself to our lives. If we are abandoned to Jesus, we have no ends
of our own to serve. Paul said he knew how to be a "door-mat" without
resenting it, because the mainspring of his life was devotion to
Jesus. We are apt to be devoted, not to Jesus Christ, but to the
things which emancipate us spiritually. That was not Paul's motive.
"I could wish my self were accursed from Christ for my brethren" -
wild, extravagant - is it? When a man is in love it is not an
exaggeration to talk in that way, and Paul is in love with Jesus
Christ.

Praying with Paul : "The Debt of Love"

THE DEBT OF LOVE

Romans 13:8-10

Dear Father,

I owe love to my fellow man, as you have said. What an endless
debt! How can I keep your command to love my neighbor as myself?
What would it be like to live in a world where such unselfishness
prevailed? Ah, it would be heaven on earth, therefore such behavior
is a precondition of our heavenly inheritance.

But Lord, be gentle in your judgment toward me. I fall so far
short on this. Love would absolutely do no wrong to one's neighbor
- never taking anything that was his, or even wanting to. So fill
me with love, so that I may fulfill your law.

In the name of Jesus, help me, Lord. Amen.

Jesus' Family

Then Jesus' mother and brothers came. They stood outside and
sent a person in to tell Jesus to come out. Many people were
sitting around Jesus. They said to him, "Your mother and
brothers are waiting for you outside." Jesus asked, "Who is
my mother? Who are my brothers?" Then Jesus looked at those
people sitting around him. He said, "These people are my
mother and my brothers! My true brother and sister and mother
are those people that do the things God wants."

-- Mark 3:31-35 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' family can be found where the words of Jesus and the will of God
are cherished and obeyed. This is not said to slight those with whom we
have biological family ties. However, it is a reminder that our family
relationship in the Spirit of God is stronger than physical family.
Jesus' family is the forever family of people who love him, obey him,
and allow his Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and empower them.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Precious God and Righteous Father, forgive me for my disobedience in
the past. Empower and encourage me to be more passionate for your will
in the future. Dear Father, I want to show my love to you, and to your
Son, by doing what you ask and obeying what you command of me. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
