Returning What Was Taken Unrighteously (2)

Returning What Was Taken Unrighteously (2)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Leviticus 6:5 Or anything about which he has sworn falsely; he
shall even restore it in full, and shall add to it a fifth
part of it. He shall give it to the one to whom it belongs,
on the day he is found guilty.
Luke 19:8 And Zaccheus stood and said to the Lord, Behold,
the half of my possessions, Lord, I give to the poor, and if
I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I
restore four times as much.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[Part 2 of 2]
Second, God wants us to not only return in full, but also to
add one-fifth more when we make a recompense. Why must we add
one-fifth? According to this principle, we have to return
abundantly. If we have taken money or things from others, God
wants us to add one-fifth to the full amount when we return
it. God does not want His children to return the bare
minimum. In printing books one has to leave margins at the
top, bottom, left, and right of a page. Similarly, we should
not be stingy in apologizing to people and returning what has
been taken from them. We must be generous and liberal.

Some people do not add one-fifth to their recompense. In
fact, they return much less than one-fifth of what was owed.
They apologize by saying, "Although I offended you in this
matter, I was not wrong in other matters. In other matters I
did not offend you; rather, you offended me." This is a
settling of accounts, not a confession. If you want to
confess, do not be that stingy. It is all right to apologize
more than you need to, but do not apologize less. Why did you
sin in the first place? Since you have to recompense now, be
more generous. Do not take things away from others and then
return only that much to them. You have to return generously.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Your Ambition, by Tom Norvell

In his writings to the Thessalonians (under the heading of "Living to
Please God" as designated by the NIV), Paul shares these words:

Finally brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please
God, and in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the
Lord Jesus to do this more and more. ... Make it your ambition to
lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your
hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the
respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on
anybody (1 Thessalonians 4:1-12 NIV).

What if we heed his instructions "to live in order to please God"?

What if that became our goal and our first priority?

Our ambition becomes we are concerned about pleasing God more than we
are concerned about pleasing our employer, our friends, and our
co-workers ... even more than pleasing our spouse.

What would change in our lives if we put pleasing God first?

What would need to change to make that possible?

What if we made it our ambition to "lead a quiet life"?

A quiet life ... can we even grasp what that would be like?

Our world is typically so busy, so noisy, so rushed, and so
complicated, that living a quiet life may seem like an impossible
thing. Yet, Paul urged us "to lead a quiet life." Jesus exemplified the
importance of quiet times and not allowing the agendas of those around
us to control us. What would a quiet life look like for you? You might
need to slow down. You might need to take an afternoon off. You might
need to get some rest. You might need to change your goals. Your
lifestyle might need an overhaul. "Make it your ambition to lead a
quiet life."

What if we made it our ambition to "mind our own business"?

Wow! That's a tough one. That's tough for a parent. That's tough for a
husband. That's tough for a wife. That's tough for friends. That's
tough for church members. Have you ever said to someone, "I wish you
would just mind your own business and let me live my life the way I
want to live it?" Has anyone ever said that to you? That feeling of
frustration you experienced when someone tried to tell you how to do
your job, or raise your children, or live your life is perhaps what
Paul was trying to prevent by telling us to mind our own business.
Don't frustrate others by minding their business for them. You mind
your own business.

What if we made it our ambition to "work with our hands"?

Don't you suppose God planned it that way?

Some other interpretations say, "do your own job" or "work hard."
Regardless of the interpretation, the message is still the same: we all
have a job to do and God has gifted us to do it ... so do it. It may
not be too big of a stretch to say, "Don't be lazy." Or, maybe "Do what
you were placed here to do." Remember Paul's words to the Ephesians?

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

So we need to stay busy doing what we were put here to do. This is no
time to slack off in doing the work of the Lord.

We can speculate on the result of such a life, but we really don't need
to because Paul tells us what would happen if we follow his
instructions: our daily lives will win the respect of outsiders and
won't be dependent to anybody.

That sounds like a pretty good plan to me. It sounds almost simple,
doesn't it?

Don't you suppose God planned it that way?

Is it possible we have complicated this thing called life more than the
Creator ever intended?

"Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business
and to work with your hands ..."

Let's try it! God's Word promises that it will be worth it.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 14:10 and 2 Peter 1:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 26, 2008

MORNING:

"Art thou become like unto us?"
-- Isaiah 14:10

What must be the apostate professor's doom when his naked soul appears
before God? How will he bear that voice, "Depart, ye cursed; thou hast
rejected me, and I reject thee; thou hast played the harlot, and
departed from me: I also have banished thee for ever from my presence,
and will not have mercy upon thee." What will be this wretch's shame at
the last great day when, before assembled multitudes, the apostate
shall be unmasked? See the profane, and sinners who never professed
religion, lifting themselves up from their beds of fire to point at
him. "There he is," says one, "will he preach the gospel in hell?"
"There he is," says another, "he rebuked me for cursing, and was a
hypocrite himself!" "Aha!" says another, "here comes a psalm-singing
Methodist-one who was always at his meeting; he is the man who boasted
of his being sure of everlasting life; and here he is!" No greater
eagerness will ever be seen among Satanic tormentors, than in that day
when devils drag the hypocrite's soul down to perdition. Bunyan
pictures this with massive but awful grandeur of poetry when he speaks
of the back-way to hell. Seven devils bound the wretch with nine cords,
and dragged him from the road to heaven, in which he had professed to
walk, and thrust him through the back-door into hell. Mind that
back-way to hell, professors! "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the
faith." Look well to your state; see whether you be in Christ or not.
It is the easiest thing in the world to give a lenient verdict when
oneself is to be tried; but O, be just and true here. Be just to all,
but be rigorous to yourself. Remember if it be not a rock on which you
build, when the house shall fall, great will be the fall of it. O may
the Lord give you sincerity, constancy, and firmness; and in no day,
however evil, may you be led to turn aside.

EVENING:

"Having escaped the corruption that is in the world through
lust."
-- 2 Peter 1:4

Vanish for ever all thought of indulging the flesh if you would live in
the power of your risen Lord. It were ill that a man who is alive in
Christ should dwell in the corruption of sin. "Why seek ye the living
among the dead?" said the angel to Magdalene. Should the living dwell
in the sepulchre? Should divine life be immured in the charnel house of
fleshly lust? How can we partake of the cup of the Lord and yet drink
the cup of Belial? Surely, believer, from open lusts and sins you are
delivered: have you also escaped from the more secret and delusive
lime-twigs of the Satanic fowler? Have you come forth from the lust of
pride? Have you escaped from slothfulness? Have you clean escaped from
carnal security? Are you seeking day by day to live above worldliness,
the pride of life, and the ensnaring vice of avarice? Remember, it is
for this that you have been enriched with the treasures of God. If you
be indeed the chosen of God, and beloved by him, do not suffer all the
lavish treasure of grace to be wasted upon you. Follow after holiness;
it is the Christian's crown and glory. An unholy church! it is useless
to the world, and of no esteem among men. It is an abomination, hell's
laughter, heaven's abhorrence. The worst evils which have ever come
upon the world have been brought upon her by an unholy church. O
Christian, the vows of God are upon you. You are God's priest: act as
such. You are God's king: reign over your lusts. You are God's chosen:
do not associate with Belial. Heaven is your portion: live like a
heavenly spirit, so shall you prove that you have true faith in Jesus,
for there cannot be faith in the heart unless there be holiness in the
life.

"Lord, I desire to live as one
Who bears a blood-bought name,
As one who fears but grieving thee,
And knows no other shame."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Always Now"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 26, 2008

ALWAYS NOW

We ... beseech you that ye receive not the grace of God
in vain.

2 Corinthians 6:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+6:1&sr=1

The grace you had yesterday will not do for to-day. Grace is the
overflowing favour of God; you can always reckon it is there to draw
upon. "In much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in
distresses" - that is where the test for patience comes. Are you
failing the grace of God there? Are you saying - Oh, well, I won't
count this time? It is not a question of praying and asking God to
help you; it is taking the grace of God now. We make prayer the
preparation for work, it is never that in the Bible. Prayer is the
exercise of drawing on the grace of God. Don't say - I will endure
this until I can get away and pray. Pray now; draw on the grace of
God in the moment of need. Prayer is the most practical thing, it is
not the reflex action of devotion. Prayer is the last thing in which
we learn to draw on God's grace.

"In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours" - in all these
things manifest a drawing upon the grace of God that will make you a
marvel to yourself and to others. Draw now, not presently. The one
word in the spiritual vocabulary is Now. Let circumstances bring you
where they will, keep drawing on the grace of God in every
conceivable condition you may be in. One of the greatest proofs that
you are drawing on the grace of God is that you can be humiliated
without manifesting the slightest trace of anything but His grace.

"Having nothing . . ." Never reserve anything. Pour out the best you
have, and always be poor. Never be diplomatic and careful about the
treasure God gives. This is poverty triumphant.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Words to Comfort 4

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Words to Comfort 4
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you. 2 Timothy 4:22 NIV

Paul is not trying to be confusing. If you are a Christian, Jesus does live in you through the Holy Spirit. The Lord is with you. Gods grace has been extended to you. The question is: are you with God?

God wants to bless you beyond what you can imagine. He wants to extend His favor and grace to you in abundance. He has done everything necessary to make that happen, except force you to accept it.

Sin still breaks fellowship with God, even in the life of a Christian. God is holy and He cannot exist where there is sin. When you accepted Christ, He came to reside in you. He wants to take up residence in your whole being. You continue, however, to battle sin. Satan does everything he can to work his way in your life. Satan knows your weakness and he is trying to build a wedge between you and God. In order to have God flood you entirely, therefore, you must rid yourself of sin. This is not a one time occurrence. The penalty of sin is removed at salvation, but the presence of sin must be removed day by day.

As Christ becomes the central focus of your life, and your will becomes His will, then Gods Spirit is fully resident in you, and you experience Gods grace to the fullest extent possible. That may sound like a bunch of theology, but it really is Gods plan for our lives as believers. Paul prayed that the Lord would be with your spirit and that Gods grace would be with you. I pray for you likewise!

Praying with Paul : "Blessings of Faithfulness"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

BLESSINGS OF FAITHFULNESS

Galatians 1:16-2:10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+1:16-2:10

Dear Father,

Today, Father, may the Lord Jesus meet us on our Damascus Road.
May he disclose himself to us for who he is, the Lord of Glory. May
he disclose to us the mission which he wants us to carry out as we
seek to live for him. May we defend the purity of his gospel, that
we are freely justified by his grace through faith apart from works
of law. May we defend the liberty that your children have in
Christ. May we never for one moment submit to programs of
enslavement to try to prove our righteousness to others. And in all
this may we remember the poor and care for them. Give us hearts of
compassion for all who undergo privation and trouble.

Thank you that even today we enjoy the blessings of the
faithfulness shown by the apostle Paul at the beginning. Help us to
be faithful, too, for the sake of those who will come after us.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

A Cup of Water

"I tell you the truth. If a person helps you by giving you a
drink of water because you belong to the Christ, then that
person will truly get his reward."

-- Mark 9:41 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
The kindness Jesus expects and rewards in his followers is very simple.
God doesn't forget kindness that is demonstrated with actions that are
simple and real. When we are kind to other believers or they are kind
to us, God sees, remembers, and rewards! Of course Jesus didn't want us
to limit our kindness to other believers and he also wanted his
followers to give unbelievers an opportunity to share their kindness
with them as well. Simple acts of kindness by Jesus' followers may be
simple, but they are also a genuine reflection of their Lord's kindness
and compassion that were shared with all sorts of people.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for sending Jesus who makes your way of life so
simple and clear. Thank you for remembering acts of kindness. Thank you
for those who have demonstrated that kindness to me and to your Son
through their kindness to me. Please bless them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

June 26, 2008

VERSE:
"I [Darius King of Persia] issue a decree that in every part of
my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For he
is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be
destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he
performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has
rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."
-- Daniel 6:26-27

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Daniel+6:26-27

THOUGHT:
If a foreign King in the days of the Old Testament can recognize
how grand and glorious our God is, surely those of us who have
received his grace through Jesus can rejoice in him and give him
praise!

PRAYER:
Father God, you are glorious and awesome. Your rule is true,
righteous, and eternal. You keep your promises and generously send
forth your blessings. You alone are truly holy, awesome in your
splendor and might. I praise you and thank you in the name of Jesus
my Lord. Amen.
