Learn to Pray Persistently (1)

Learn to Pray Persistently (1)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 18:1 And He told them a parable to the end that they ought
always to pray and not lose heart, 2 Saying, There was a
certain judge in a certain city who did not fear God and did
not regard man. 3 And there was a widow in that city, and she
kept coming to him, saying, Avenge me of my opponent. 4 And for
a time he would not; but afterward he said within himself, Even
though I do not fear God nor regard man, 5 Yet because this
widow causes me trouble, I will avenge her, lest by continually
coming she wear me out. 6 And the Lord said, Hear what the
unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God by all means carry
out the avenging of His chosen ones, who cry to Him day and
night, though He is long- suffering over them? 8 I tell you
that He will carry out their avenging quickly. Nevertheless,
when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Part 1 of 2]
The widow in verse 3 signifies the believers. In a sense, the
believers in Christ are a widow in the present age because
their Husband Christ (2 Cor. 11:2) is absent from them. In this
parable the Lord indicates that the believers in Christ have an
opponent. This opponent is Satan, the Devil, concerning whom we
need God's avenging. We ought to pray persistently for this
avenging and not lose heart. Actually, the Lord is not absent;
He is present. But during His apparent absence, we are a widow
whose opposer is troubling her all the time.

While our opposer is persecuting us, it seems that our God is
not righteous, for He allows His children to be unrighteously
persecuted. For example, John the Baptist was beheaded, Peter
was martyred, Paul was imprisoned, and John was exiled.
Throughout the centuries, thousands upon thousands of honest
and faithful followers of the Man-Savior have suffered
unrighteous persecution. Even today we are still undergoing
unrighteous mistreatment. Our God seems to be unjust, since He
does not come in to judge and vindicate.

Because of this situation, the Man-Savior in 18:1-8 uses an
unjust judge to signify God who does not seem to do anything on
behalf of His persecuted people. What shall we do in a
situation when we are persecuted and it seems that our God is
not living, present, or just? From this parable we learn to be
a bothering widow, one who prays to God persistently. It seems
that He is not righteous. Nevertheless, I have learned that we
need to bother God in prayer, that we should pray to Him
persistently without losing heart.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

When You Don't Know the Way, by Tim Archer

I'll admit to a moment of panic. I was in Brazil, traveling with two
other people, one of them Brazilian. It was comforting to travel with
someone who knew the language and knew exactly where we were going. We
were taking a flight from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. Instead of
walking through a jetway, we rode out to the plane on buses. As luck
would have it, my colleagues were placed on the first bus, while I had
to wait for the second one. I wasn't too concerned, since I knew that
we'd still end up in the same place. I calmly watched their bus depart,
then boarded mine and left to join them.

But, when I got on the plane and found the row where our seats were, my
friends weren't there! That's when I felt a twinge of panic. I knew
they had to be on the plane, yet I couldn't find them anywhere. I had
no idea how to get to where I was going, and I had no idea how to find
the people that did know. I quickly turned to one of the stewardesses
and asked her, in Spanish, if this was the plane to Rio de Janeiro.
Speaking Spanish in a Portuguese-speaking country is a desperate ploy,
but she understood my question and assured me that I was on the correct
flight. She continued to give me further information in Portuguese, but
I was no longer trying to understand her, as I saw my colleagues coming
through the door of the plane. For some reason, their bus had taken a
long time in getting from the terminal to the plane. I was in the right
place after all.

Luckily, when it comes to our spiritual lives, we can always know the
way.

On the night that Jesus was arrested, He told His disciples that He was
going somewhere to prepare a place for them. He told them that they
knew the way to where He was going. Thomas replied, "Lord, we don't
know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" And that's when
Jesus spoke these famous words: "I am the way and the truth and the
life." (John 14:3-6)

Not knowing the way is an unpleasant feeling. It's all right when we
can depend on someone else, but when we're all alone, feeling lost is
pretty scary. Luckily, when it comes to our spiritual lives, we can
always know the way. Jesus is the way. We can put our trust in Him,
knowing that He will always take us where we need to be. To get past
our feelings of being lost in this world, all we really need to know is
Jesus.

If you feel unsure of your way, maybe I can help you find Him. Write to
me at tim@hopeforlife.org, and I'll tell you about He who is the way.
You'll never have to feel lost again. [Have some thoughts on this

Morning & Evening -- Jude 24 and Jeremiah 15:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

MORNING:

"Faultless before the presence of his glory."
-- Jude 24

Revolve in your mind that wondrous word, "faultless!" We are far off
from it now; but as our Lord never stops short of perfection in his
work of love, we shall reach it one day. The Saviour who will keep his
people to the end, will also present them at last to himself, as "a
glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but
holy and without blemish." All the jewels in the Saviour's crown are of
the first water and without a single flaw. All the maids of honour who
attend the Lamb's wife are pure virgins without spot or stain. But how
will Jesus make us faultless? He will wash us from our sins in his own
blood until we are white and fair as God's purest angel; and we shall
be clothed in his righteousness, that righteousness which makes the
saint who wears it positively faultless; yea, perfect in the sight of
God. We shall be unblameable and unreproveable even in his eyes. His
law will not only have no charge against us, but it will be magnified
in us. Moreover, the work of the Holy Spirit within us will be
altogether complete. He will make us so perfectly holy, that we shall
have no lingering tendency to sin. Judgment, memory, will-every power
and passion shall be emancipated from the thraldom of evil. We shall be
holy even as God is holy, and in his presence we shall dwell for ever.
Saints will not be out of place in heaven, their beauty will be as
great as that of the place prepared for them. Oh the rapture of that
hour when the everlasting doors shall be lifted up, and we, being made
meet for the inheritance, shall dwell with the saints in light. Sin
gone, Satan shut out, temptation past for ever, and ourselves
"faultless" before God, this will be heaven indeed! Let us be joyful
now as we rehearse the song of eternal praise so soon to roll forth in
full chorus from all the blood-washed host; let us copy David's
exultings before the ark as a prelude to our ecstasies before the
throne.

EVENING:

"And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I
will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible."
-- Jeremiah 15:21

Note the glorious personality of the promise. I will, I will. The Lord
Jehovah himself interposes to deliver and redeem his people. He pledges
himself personally to rescue them. His own arm shall do it, that he may
have the glory. Here is not a word said of any effort of our own which
may be needed to assist the Lord. Neither our strength nor our weakness
is taken into the account, but the lone I, like the sun in the heavens,
shines out resplendent in all-sufficience. Why then do we calculate our
forces, and consult with flesh and blood to our grievous wounding?
Jehovah has power enough without borrowing from our puny arm. Peace, ye
unbelieving thoughts, be still, and know that the Lord reigneth. Nor is
there a hint concerning secondary means and causes. The Lord says
nothing of friends and helpers: he undertakes the work alone, and feels
no need of human arms to aid him. Vain are all our lookings around to
companions and relatives; they are broken reeds if we lean upon
them-often unwilling when able, and unable when they are willing. Since
the promise comes alone from God, it would be well to wait only upon
him; and when we do so, our expectation never fails us. Who are the
wicked that we should fear them? The Lord will utterly consume them;
they are to be pitied rather than feared. As for terrible ones, they
are only terrors to those who have no God to fly to, for when the Lord
is on our side, whom shall we fear? If we run into sin to please the
wicked, we have cause to be alarmed, but if we hold fast our integrity,
the rage of tyrants shall be overruled for our good. When the fish
swallowed Jonah, he found him a morsel which he could not digest; and
when the world devours the church, it is glad to be rid of it again. In
all times of fiery trial, in patience let us possess our souls.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Whereby Shall I Know?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 10, 2007

WHEREBY SHALL I KNOW?

I thank Thee, O Father ... because Thou hast hid these
things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them
unto babes.

Matthew 11:25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+11:25&sr=1

In spiritual relationship we do not grow step by step; we are either
there or we are not. God does not cleanse us more and more from sin,
but when we are in the light, walking in the light, we are cleansed
from all sin. It is a question of obedience, and instantly the
relationship is perfected. Turn away for one second out of obedience,
and darkness and death are at work at once.

All God's revelations are sealed until they are opened to us by
obedience. You will never get them open by philosophy or thinking.
Immediately you obey, a flash of light comes. Let God's truth work in
you by soaking in it, not by worrying into it. The only way you can
get to know is to stop trying to find out and by being born again.
Obey God in the thing He shows you, and instantly the next thing is
opened up. One reads tomes on the work of the Holy Spirit, when one
five minutes of drastic obedience would make things as clear as a
sunbeam. "I suppose I shall understand these things some day!" You
can understand them now. It is not study that does it, but obedience.
The tiniest fragment of obedience, and heaven opens and the
profoundest truths of God are yours straight away. God will never
reveal more truth about Himself until you have obeyed what you know
already. Beware of becoming "wise and prudent."

Mustard Seed Thought: God's Promise Three

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 NIV

God's promise of peace is available to you today! This is a conditional promise. Please allow me to try and explain.

The Scripture says that God gives His people peace. You can read that truth throughout the Bible. I hear from Christians nearly everyday who are seeking God's peace. I have written before that true peace can only come from God because He owns it. He controls real peace. So, how do we have access to that peace?

God has given you a spirit, soul and body. Your spirit, if you are saved, is where Jesus lives. That's why He can see you as a saint, because your spirit is a new creation. Our body is our flesh, where we experience our fives senses (touch, smell, sight, taste, hearing). The third part of our being is called the soul. It's basically our character; our personality. The soul has three parts, the mind, the emotions and the will. The mind does the thinking, the emotions do the feeling, and the will does the choosing.

Why do I share this? Because to enjoy God's peace, today's verse tells us we must trust in Him. That is an act of your will. You choose to trust in God. You can choose to trust what you know, or you can choose to trust what you feel. I don't know about you, but some days I don't "feel" God's love. Some days I don't "feel" God's forgiveness. Some days I have a hard time "feeling" acceptance by God. When I'm having one of these "feeling" emotional days, I'm less likely to experience the peace of God. It is then that I must choose to place my thoughts on the things of God, on His promises; His character, and my future with Him. That is why Paul said "set your heart on things above" and told us to "think about such things". That's why Jesus said that "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".

Dear friend, today, would you set your chooser on the Truth of God's Word? Would you choose today to trust fully in the promises of God? I'm not asking you to "feel" good about your situation...that will come with time. Feelings are fickle. I'm asking you to believe what you know to be true. God is God; and He is fully in control!

Recognizing that truth will give you peace!

THE GREATNESS OF GOD

Ephesians 1:17-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+1:17-20

Dear Father, God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory.

Give me a spirit of wisdom and of revelation so that I may truly
know the Savior.

Let the eyes of my heart light up with comprehension, that I may
know how vast is the hope to which you have called me!

May I come to know how truly boundless are the riches of your
glorious inheritance that you have in us, your special people.

May I understand to its depth how immeasurable is the greatness of
your power in us who have put our trust in you.

My Father, I have put my trust in you. I am one of your special
people! Lift up your Son in my heart! Work powerfully in my life!

In the name of Jesus I come. Amen.

WJD! -- The Hidden Kingdom -- Luke 17:20-21

The Hidden Kingdom

Some of the Pharisees asked Jesus, "When will the kingdom of
God come?" Jesus answered, "God's kingdom is coming, but not
in a way that you will be able to see with your eyes. People
will not say, 'Look, God's kingdom is here!' Or, 'There it
is!' No, God's kingdom is inside you."

-- Luke 17:20-21 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
What in the world does Jesus mean? In light of his comments in the
following verses, Jesus is distinguishing between his return in glory
and the Kingdom of God. He is most likely referring to the reign of God
over the hearts of men and women who long to do his will and pin their
hopes on his deliverance. Already that Kingdom is beginning to make its
entry upon the scene with the coming of Jesus and the call of his
disciples. It is not a visible territory with borders. It is not a
capitol building with beautiful architecture. Instead, his Kingdom,
God's Kingdom, has already begun to make its appearance as people bow
their hearts to the King and offer themselves in service to his rule.
The question then is not "Where is the Kingdom?" but "Is my heart
yielded to the King?" Has the Kingdom come to you? Have you truly
yielded your heart, soul, mind, and strength to do the Lord's will? Can
the influence and power of God's Kingdom be seen in your life?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O LORD God Almighty, King of the ages, I praise you. I praise you for
your power and glory. I praise you for your work of deliverance and
salvation in the lives of men and women. I praise you for your promise
of a home and a great future with you. Now I ask that your will be done
in my life as I offer myself to serve and honor you as the only true
and living God. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Hebrews 12:29

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/

October 10, 2007

VERSE:
For our God is a consuming fire.
-- Hebrews 12:29

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Hebrews+12:29

THOUGHT:
We should worship God with reverence because he is a consuming
fire! Mmm. What does that mean? Is the focus on his holiness? Does
this warn of judgment? Is this an expression of his purity? Yes,
YES, YES! You see, God is holy and pure and righteous. Our
imperfections, flaws, failures, and sins stand out glaringly in
comparison to his perfection. Yet, rather than destroying us with
his holy fire, he can make us new and clean and more than what we
once were. So not only can we draw near to him because of Jesus, we
can stay near him as we live Jesus' life in our world (see Hebrews
13). That, dear friend, is reverential worship at its finest!

PRAYER:
Righteous and holy God, please forgive me for my sin, my lack of
boldness, and my unexercised faith. Thank you for not compromising
your holiness, but, instead, sacrificing your Son to perfect and
purify me by your grace so I can come before you. As I live this
week, may your holiness be exalted by my conduct and reflected in
my character. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and
Savior. Amen.
