Today's Verse : John 3:20-21

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 9, 2007

VERSE:
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into
the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever
lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen
plainly that what he has done has been done through God.
-- John 3:20-21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=John+3:20-21

THOUGHT:
What's the power behind your life? One clear way to find out is
to come to Jesus and ask him to search you and reveal anything
spiritually unhealthy, anything unholy, in you. Opening ourselves
up to the light of his scrutiny, to the truth of his Light, gives
us a remarkable sense of freedom. We don't have anything to hide.
Then God can do some truly remarkable things in us and through us
because there are no distorted motives.

PRAYER:
Thank you God, for shining your light into my heart through your
Son, the Light of the world. Please gently reveal to me the areas
of my weakness, my sinfulness, my duplicity, and my deception. I
want to live purely before you and purely for you. I humbly request
this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Human Interface Device, by Russ Lawson

My computer keyboard at my office had been giving me a little trouble,
so I decided to change it. I dug out my favorite old keyboard from home
and brought it to my office to use. I plugged in the keyboard and a
message popped up that I don't recall ever seeing before. The message
said, "New Human Interface Device."

I had never thought of a keyboard as a "human interface device," and
was somewhat surprised to see this description. I guess however, from
the computer's perspective, it is. I have external cooling fans, an
external hard drive, a mouse, a phone synchronization cable and a
printer. All of these devices except for my mouse are considered
"hardware devices." These things don't require any input from me to
operate them. The keyboard, however, is another matter entirely.

With this "human interface device" (my computer keyboard), I directly
input my thought and feeling to the computer. I can communicate with
people who literally live all over the earth. It allows me to add
"human qualities" -- my thoughts, ideas, and input -- to a mechanical
device.

That's really not so different from what Jesus does for us, is it?
Jesus coming to earth was God adding a "human interface device" to his
connection with humankind! Jesus brought the human part into the
relationship. Jesus provided us an "interface," a way to understand and
communicate with God in a way that we can understand and know that God
understands -- of course God understands everything, but Jesus' coming
assures us that he understands from human experience.

Paul reminds us of this profound truth:

Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. Though he
was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made
himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and
appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled
himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross (Philippians
2:5-8 NLT).

He has given us the ability to talk to God.

John helps us understand the greatness of this truth in his gospel when
recounting the conversation between Jesus and the apostle Philip.

[Jesus said] "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been
among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the
Father"(John 14:9 NIV).

Jesus' claim in this verse reinforces the claim John made about Jesus
in the beginning of his gospel:

No one has ever seen God. But his only Son, who is himself God, is
near to the Father's heart; he has told us about him (John 1:18
NLT).

Jesus provided us the "human interface" with God! He has given us the
ability to talk to God and understand a relationship that was beyond
our understanding. He not only translated it all into things we can
understand, he also demonstrated God's love for us.

Let me suggest, if you are having trouble relating to God that you go
back and "reboot" (restart) the relationship by looking closely at the
Son as we see him in the pages of the New Testament -- read especially
the Gospels, the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. For now, I'll
stop using this "human interface device" -- my keyboard -- in hopes
that you will spend time with the better model.

Morning & Evening -- Revelation 3:4 and Psalms 68:10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, December 8, 2007

MORNING:

"Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled
their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they
are worthy."
-- Revelation 3:4

We may understand this to refer to justification. "They shall walk in
white"; that is, they shall enjoy a constant sense of their own
justification by faith; they shall understand that the righteousness of
Christ is imputed to them, that they have all been washed and made
whiter than the newly-fallen snow.

Again, it refers to joy and gladness: for white robes were holiday
dresses among the Jews. They who have not defiled their garments shall
have their faces always bright; they shall understand what Solomon
meant when he said "Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy
wine with a merry heart. Let thy garments be always white, for God hath
accepted thy works." He who is accepted of God shall wear white
garments of joy and gladness, while he walks in sweet communion with
the Lord Jesus. Whence so many doubts, so much misery, and mourning? It
is because so many believers defile their garments with sin and error,
and hence they lose the joy of their salvation, and the comfortable
fellowship of the Lord Jesus, they do not here below walk in white.

The promise also refers to walking in white before the throne of God.
Those who have not defiled their garments here shall most certainly
walk in white up yonder, where the white-robed hosts sing perpetual
hallelujahs to the Most High. They shall possess joys inconceivable,
happiness beyond a dream, bliss which imagination knoweth not,
blessedness which even the stretch of desire hath not reached. The
"undefiled in the way" shall have all this-not of merit, nor of works,
but of grace. They shall walk with Christ in white, for he has made
them "worthy." In his sweet company they shall drink of the living
fountains of waters.

EVENING:

"Thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor."
-- Psalms 68:10

All God's gifts are prepared gifts laid up in store for wants foreseen.
He anticipates our needs; and out of the fulness which he has treasured
up in Christ Jesus, he provides of his goodness for the poor. You may
trust him for all the necessities that can occur, for he has infallibly
foreknown every one of them. He can say of us in all conditions, "I
knew that thou wouldst be this and that." A man goes a journey across
the desert, and when he has made a day's advance, and pitched his tent,
he discovers that he wants many comforts and necessaries which he has
not brought in his baggage. "Ah!" says he, "I did not foresee this: if
I had this journey to go again, I should bring these things with me, so
necessary to my comfort." But God has marked with prescient eye all the
requirements of his poor wandering children, and when those needs
occur, supplies are ready. It is goodness which he has prepared for the
poor in heart, goodness and goodness only. "My grace is sufficient for
thee." "As thy days, so shall thy strength be."

Reader, is your heart heavy this evening? God knew it would be; the
comfort which your heart wants is treasured in the sweet assurance of
the text. You are poor and needy, but he has thought upon you, and has
the exact blessing which you require in store for you. Plead the
promise, believe it and obtain its fulfilment. Do you feel that you
never were so consciously vile as you are now? Behold, the crimson
fountain is open still, with all its former efficacy, to wash your sin
away. Never shall you come into such a position that Christ cannot aid
you. No pinch shall ever arrive in your spiritual affairs in which
Jesus Christ shall not be equal to the emergency, for your history has
all been foreknown and provided for in Jesus.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Impartial Power Of God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 8, 2007

THE IMPARTIAL POWER OF GOD

For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that
are sanctified.

Hebrews 10:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+10:1&sr=1

We trample the blood of the Son of God under foot if we think we are
forgiven because we are sorry for our sins. The only explanation of
the forgiveness of God and of the unfathomable depth of His
forgetting is the Death of Jesus Christ. Our repentance is merely the
outcome of our personal realization of the Atonement which He has
worked out for us. "Christ Jesus...is made unto us wisdom, and
righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption." When we realize
that Christ is made all this to us, the boundless joy of God begins;
wherever the joy of God is not present, the death sentence is at
work.

It does not matter who or what we are, there is absolute
reinstatement into God by the death of Jesus Christ and by no other
way, not because Jesus Christ pleads, but because He died. It is not
earned, but accepted. All the pleading which deliberately refuses to
recognize the Cross is of no avail; it is battering at another door
than the one which Jesus has opened. I don't want to come that way,
it is too humiliating to be received as a sinner. "There is none
other Name . . ." The apparent heartlessness of God is the expression
of His real heart, there is boundless entrance in His way. "We have
forgiveness through His blood." Identification with the death of
Jesus Christ means identification with Him to the death of everything
that never was in Him.

God is justified in saving bad men only as He makes them good. Our
Lord does not pretend we are all right when we are all wrong. The
Atonement is a propitiation whereby God through the death of Jesus
makes an unholy man holy.

Overstating Our Courage

But Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, I am ready to go to jail with
you. I will even die with you!" But Jesus said, "Peter,
before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say you
don't know me. You will say this three times!"

-- Luke 22:33-34 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
One of our weaknesses as mere mortals is to overstate our courage. So
often, we fail to realize the power of fear -- why else would the Bible
contain so many commands not to be afraid? Peter's intentions are
genuine, but the power of discouragement, despair, disillusionment, and
fear is greater. What commitments have you made to the Lord that you
did not keep? Even though Peter would deny his Lord three times, the
Lord worked in Peter's life so that he would not be destroyed. He can
do the same for you in your times of failure and loss. However, we
should take Peter's warning as our own. When we feel strong, we are
often most vulnerable. Our strength must come from the Lord and not our
feelings of invincible faith.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O LORD God, thank you for loving Peter even though you knew he would
let you down. Thank you for restoring and using him after his
sinfulness and failure. My desire, O God, is to never trust in my own
strength, but in your power at work in me. When I begin to get too full
of myself and too confident in my own power, please humble me gently so
that in crucial moments I will not fail you! In Jesus' name. Amen.
