Today's Verse : Jeremiah 2:12-13

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 12, 2008

VERSE:
"Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror,"
declares the LORD. "My people have committed two sins: They have
forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own
cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water."
-- Jeremiah 2:12-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Jeremiah+2:12-13

THOUGHT:
Where do you turn to have the thirst of your soul slaked? I
firmly believe that many addictive habits and sins are the result
of pursuing things to satisfy this thirst in our soul by some means
other than seeking God. He is the only source of true and lasting
refreshment, satisfaction, and fulfillment. Let's pursue God,
knowing that only he can satisfy the desire of our souls.

PRAYER:
Thank you, O God, that you care that my soul thirsts with
superhuman thirst. Thank you for providing your Living Water
through the Holy Spirit to satisfy this longing deep within my
soul. Help me see the deceptiveness of every false source of
satisfaction so that I can find my thirst properly and fully
satisfied in you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: What Do You Lack?

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
What Do You Lack?
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered. Luke 22:35 NIV

Jesus was referring back to an earlier situation in His ministry where He sent out the seventy-two to go proclaiming the name of Christ. He told them not to take anything with them, but to trust God to meet their every need. (See Luke 10:1-4) It was an unusual request. Afterall, some of these people likely had means of support. They could have paid their own way. Yet, Christ wanted them to completely put their trust in Him.

Now, towards the end of Jesus' earthly ministry, He asks them this question about that special time in their life. Did they lack anything? Absolutely not. They lacked nothing.

Jesus would ask us that even today. When we completely place our trust in Him, depending not on our own abilities, He will always provide. Now, I know that is easy to say and much more difficult to follow. You and I, with our vast capabilities and knowledge, and especially with our impatience, do not wait on God easily. It is indeed a struggle for us to ignore the temptation to attempt at fixing our own problems. We would often times much rather "just do it" then to cast all our cares upon the Lord.

Jesus would ask us today, "did you lack anything?" When you really completely allowed Him to provide, did He ever let you down? None of us, who have ever placed everything we have in His hands, and waited for His answer, have ever left disappointed. We would have to answer just as the seventy-two did, "Nothing". We lacked nothing.

Since that is the case, shouldn't it be our goal everyday to trust Him with all we have?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Twenty-Five, by Phil Ware

When I was twenty-five, my father died after battling a chronic illness
for ten years. We were deeply grieved and also relieved -- relieved for
dad, he was more than ready to go home to the Lord and relieved for mom
who had so valiantly cared for him. Then three years later, twenty-five
years ago on February 12, mom remarried a great man whom we had known
for years. His wife, Nell, had died of cancer. His kids had been our
friends years earlier when we lived in the same town.

Now, more well over twenty grandchildren later, Margaret and Grady
Jolly are celebrating their silver anniversary. Unfortunately I won't
be there to celebrate. I'm off to Uganda with Compassion International
to do what mom and dad had trained me to do -- care for those who need
God's care and grace. What a great blessing their marriage has been to
all of us! They live in an old farmhouse just outside of town. Instead
of growing up without a grandfather nearby, our children have been
blessed by Grady. My mom has always had a way of sharing faith with her
grandchildren, and she has been a blessing to our "step-nephews" and
"step-nieces." Our kids grew up going to the farm to spend time in the
summer with Mimi and Grandfather, surrounded by their love, faith, and
wisdom.

When they married, I'm not sure any of us anticipated that they would
share twenty-five wonderful years together, but they have. Working with
Meals on Wheels, helping those who are hungry at the food pantry,
teaching classes, visiting the sick, and encouraging those in need of
support, these two have been a blessing to hundreds upon hundreds.
There is no telling how many university students have eaten at their
table over the years. What a blessing these twenty-five years have
been!

When they married, Mom and Grady were supported by pretty much everyone
in their decision except for two in the family who had a bit of
reluctance. One was mom's mother-in-law; we called her Granny. The
other was Grady's father-in-law; we called him Pap-Paw. Each had lost
both their spouse and their child. I know it had to be hard to watch
and wonder how Mom and Grady's families would blend and how they would
fit. To our great amazement, about a year after Mom and Grady married,
Pap-Paw was driving from Abilene to San Antonio to court Granny. Before
long, they married -- yeah, try to figure out our family tree with my
Grandmother marrying my step grandfather: we are all our own cousins!
They enjoyed wonderful years together and our family grew closer and we
shared even deeper bonds.

What an unexpected blessing!

So while I am far away, doing what I've learned from them to do, I want
to say, "Happy Anniversary! Thanks for the great example, the
overflowing love, and for the blessing of being family. We all love
you!"

And for those who struggle with parents who re-marry late in life,
please know that for many of us, this has been a great blessing and
wonderful opportunity for our kids to learn the preciousness of family
love.

Morning & Evening -- Acts 4:13 and Revelation 2:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 11, 2008

MORNING:

"And they took knowledge of them, that they had been with
Jesus."
-- Acts 4:13

A Christian should be a striking likeness of Jesus Christ. You have
read lives of Christ, beautifully and eloquently written, but the best
life of Christ is his living biography, written out in the words and
actions of his people. If we were what we profess to be, and what we
should be, we should be pictures of Christ; yea, such striking
likenesses of him, that the world would not have to hold us up by the
hour together, and say, "Well, it seems somewhat of a likeness;" but
they would, when they once beheld us, exclaim, "He has been with Jesus;
he has been taught of him; he is like him; he has caught the very idea
of the holy Man of Nazareth, and he works it out in his life and
every-day actions." A Christian should be like Christ in his boldness.
Never blush to own your religion; your profession will never disgrace
you: take care you never disgrace that. Be like Jesus, very valiant for
your God. Imitate him in your loving spirit; think kindly, speak
kindly, and do kindly, that men may say of you, "He has been with
Jesus." Imitate Jesus in his holiness. Was he zealous for his Master?
So be you; ever go about doing good. Let not time be wasted: it is too
precious. Was he self-denying, never looking to his own interest? Be
the same. Was he devout? Be you fervent in your prayers. Had he
deference to his Father's will? So submit yourselves to him. Was he
patient? So learn to endure. And best of all, as the highest
portraiture of Jesus, try to forgive your enemies, as he did; and let
those sublime words of your Master, "Father, forgive them; for they
know not what they do," always ring in your ears. Forgive, as you hope
to be forgiven. Heap coals of fire on the head of your foe by your
kindness to him. Good for evil, recollect, is godlike. Be godlike,
then; and in all ways and by all means, so live that all may say of
you, "He has been with Jesus."

EVENING:

"Thou hast left thy first love."
-- Revelation 2:4

Ever to be remembered is that best and brightest of hours, when first
we saw the Lord, lost our burden, received the roll of promise,
rejoiced in full salvation, and went on our way in peace. It was spring
time in the soul; the winter was past; the mutterings of Sinai's
thunders were hushed; the flashings of its lightnings were no more
perceived; God was beheld as reconciled; the law threatened no
vengeance, justice demanded no punishment. Then the flowers appeared in
our heart; hope, love, peace, and patience sprung from the sod; the
hyacinth of repentance, the snowdrop of pure holiness, the crocus of
golden faith, the daffodil of early love, all decked the garden of the
soul. The time of the singing of birds was come, and we rejoiced with
thanksgiving; we magnified the holy name of our forgiving God, and our
resolve was, "Lord, I am thine, wholly thine; all I am, and all I have,
I would devote to thee. Thou hast bought me with thy blood-let me spend
myself and be spent in thy service. In life and in death let me be
consecrated to thee." How have we kept this resolve? Our espousal love
burned with a holy flame of devoutedness to Jesus-is it the same now?
Might not Jesus well say to us, "I have somewhat against thee, because
thou hast left thy first love"? Alas! it is but little we have done for
our Master's glory. Our winter has lasted all too long. We are as cold
as ice when we should feel a summer's glow and bloom with sacred
flowers. We give to God pence when he deserveth pounds, nay, deserveth
our heart's blood to be coined in the service of his church and of his
truth. But shall we continue thus? O Lord, after thou hast so richly
blessed us, shall we be ungrateful and become indifferent to thy good
cause and work? O quicken us that we may return to our first love, and
do our first works! Send us a genial spring, O Sun of Righteousness.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Is Your Hope In God Faint And Dying?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

February 11, 2008

IS YOUR HOPE IN GOD FAINT AND DYING?

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose imagination is
stayed on Thee.

Isaiah 26:3

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+26:3&sr=1

Is your imagination stayed on God or is it starved? The starvation of
the imagination is one of the most fruitful sources of exhaustion and
sapping in a worker's life. If you have never used your imagination
to put yourself before God, begin to do it now. It is no use waiting
for God to come; you must put your imagination away from the face of
idols and look unto Him and he saved. Imagination is the greatest
gift God has given us and it ought to be devoted entirely to Him. If
you have been bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience
of Christ, it will be one of the greatest assets to faith when the
time of trial comes, because your faith and the Spirit of God will
work together. Learn to associate ideas worthy of God with all that
happens in Nature - the sunrises and the sunsets, the sun and the
stars, the changing seasons, and your imagination will never be at
the mercy of your impulses, but will always be at the service of God.

"We have sinned with our fathers; . . . and have forgotten" - then
put a stiletto in the place where you have gone to sleep. "God is not
talking to me just now," but He ought to be. Remember Whose you are
and Whom you serve. Provoke yourself by recollection, and your
affection for God will increase tenfold; your imagination will not be
starved any longer, but will be quick and enthusiastic, and your hope
will be inexpressibly bright.

Praying with Paul : "I Believe!"

I BELIEVE!

Romans 10:8-17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+10:8-17

Dear Father,

May the word of Christ always be on my lips and in my heart. May I
make known to everyone in every place that Jesus is Lord and that
you have raised him from the dead. Remind me continually that I
have no cause to be ashamed of my faith.

Grant not only that I myself should believe but that I should also
become partners with others in sending them to proclaim the Good
News to the world.

Thank you that Christ is preached. Thank you for the belief you
have put into my heart. Thank you for the salvation that comes from
this.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Master of Every Moment!

"So the Son of Man is Lord (master) of every day, even the
Sabbath."

-- Mark 2:28 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is Lord! He has authority over everything! He is the Master and
Commander of all things. His word, his teaching, his will about the
Sabbath form the basis of our truth. So what Jesus does on the Sabbath,
says about the Sabbath, and teaches regarding the Sabbath are our
examples, instructions, and truths regarding the Sabbath. We seek
Jesus, not the Sabbath! He is the one who provides genuine rest and
renewal.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, my heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the principle of
the Sabbath. I know I need to rest more and I need to remember that
every good thing comes from you. However, dear Father, I realize now
more than ever that I need Jesus. I need his comfort, power, rest, and
grace. Come Lord Jesus! Amen.
