Learn to Pray Persistently (2)

Learn to Pray Persistently (2)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 11:8 I say to you, Even though he will not rise up and
give him anything because he is his friend, surely because of
his shameless persistence he will rise and give him what he
needs. (9) And I say to you, Ask and it shall be given to you;
seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Part 2 of 2]
In Luke 18:1-8 we see the prayer from the visible realm. This
kind of prayer is related to our enjoyment of the jubilee.
Often the children of those who are faithful followers of the
Lord ask their parents why they are suffering persecution. They
may ask, "Since we love the Lord Jesus so much, why must we
suffer?" Usually the parents do not know how to answer. It
seems to the children that the Lord whom their parents follow
is not righteous. We also may wonder why we suffer, since we
love the Lord and follow Him. The parable in 18:1-8 answers our
question.

When our Husband is apparently absent and we are left on earth
as a widow, temporarily our God seems to be an unrighteous
judge. Although He appears to be unrighteous, we still must
appeal to Him, pray persistently, and bother Him again and
again. We need to be careful in understanding a parable such as
the one recorded in 18:1-8. We should not try to understand it
in a natural way. On the one hand, this parable indicates that
the Judge is sovereign. This means that whether or not He
judges is up to Him. Seemingly without reason, He may either
listen to the widow or not listen to her. This parable reveals
that He is the sovereign Lord and that He judges whenever He
chooses. On the other hand, this parable indicates that we need
to bother the Lord by praying persistently. We need to say to
Him, "Lord, praying is up to me, not up to You. You never told
me that I should not pray. On the contrary, You charged me to
pray. Therefore, Lord, I am praying now for Your vindication."
The significance of this parable is profound, and we all need
to know God as He is revealed here. We also need to see that
the kind of prayer described here helps us to enjoy the
jubilee.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

The Change You Want to See, by Rubel Shelly

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23 TNIV).

The world needs lots of positive change. Do you agree?

There needs to be less violence in the world. There are too many angry
people on the road and in our workplaces. There are too many abusive
words spoken in homes. And there are too many people who never get
spoken to except to be criticized, put down, or made fun of. Things
don't have to be that way. You and I can change this hateful pattern
and drain off some of that savage anger.

The world needs more joy. It doesn't take any great effort to
acknowledge people on the sidewalk, in elevators, or at restaurants.
Why, it is even possible to smile at clerks and customers. There's
something almost magical when clerk and customer smile simultaneously —
and speak pleasantly. It starts with a simple, natural smile directed
at another human being.

Don't wait for someone else to take the initiative!

We certainly need increased kindness to each other too. Every time you
cross paths with another human being, you have the opportunity to see
and affirm the image of God she bears. You can build her up or tear her
down. If you do the former, you are honoring God and affirming human
dignity; if you do the latter, you are not so much insulting that
person as the God in whose likeness she was created. So racism, sexism,
and the other hateful "-isms" of the world are out of place.

Summing up, I suppose it all translates into Jesus' call for us to love
one another. Maybe that's why less rage and more smiles, fewer
incivilities and more kindnesses don't sound like such novel ideas.
But, hey, the notion here isn't novelty but need, not originality but
urgency. Don't you think these little things would make the world a
better place for all of us? "But it's too simplistic!" somebody
protests. Are you sure? The world gets changed not only by the mighty
exploits of its occasional superstar heroes, but also by the cumulative
little deeds of each soul who aspires to a holy thing.

Don't wait for someone else to take the initiative in your workplace,
at home, or in your church. No leader needs to give you permission.
Just do these right, positive, and wholesome things yourself. If you
must, do them alone. Go person to person with them, and God will make
you into a world-changer.

Pray to be the change you'd like to see.

Morning & Evening -- Lamentations 3:41 and Romans 8:30

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 11, 2007

MORNING:

"Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the
heavens."
-- Lamentations 3:41

The act of prayer teaches us our unworthiness, which is a very salutary
lesson for such proud beings as we are. If God gave us favours without
constraining us to pray for them we should never know how poor we are,
but a true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalogue of necessities,
a revelation of hidden poverty. While it is an application to divine
wealth, it is a confession of human emptiness. The most healthy state
of a Christian is to be always empty in self and constantly depending
upon the Lord for supplies; to be always poor in self and rich in
Jesus; weak as water personally, but mighty through God to do great
exploits; and hence the use of prayer, because, while it adores God, it
lays the creature where it should be, in the very dust. Prayer is in
itself, apart from the answer which it brings, a great benefit to the
Christian. As the runner gains strength for the race by daily exercise,
so for the great race of life we acquire energy by the hallowed labour
of prayer. Prayer plumes the wings of God's young eaglets, that they
may learn to mount above the clouds. Prayer girds the loins of God's
warriors, and sends them forth to combat with their sinews braced and
their muscles firm. An earnest pleader cometh out of his closet, even
as the sun ariseth from the chambers of the east, rejoicing like a
strong man to run his race. Prayer is that uplifted hand of Moses which
routs the Amalekites more than the sword of Joshua; it is the arrow
shot from the chamber of the prophet foreboding defeat to the Syrians.
Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly
into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God.
We know not what prayer cannot do! We thank thee, great God, for the
mercy-seat, a choice proof of thy marvellous lovingkindness. Help us to
use it aright throughout this day!

EVENING:

"Whom he did predestinate, them he also called."
-- Romans 8:30

In the second epistle to Timothy, first chapter, and ninth verse, are
these words-"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling."
Now, here is a touchstone by which we may try our calling. It is "an
holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own
purpose and grace." This calling forbids all trust in our own doings,
and conducts us to Christ alone for salvation, but it afterwards purges
us from dead works to serve the living and true God. As he that hath
called you is holy, so must you be holy. If you are living in sin, you
are not called, but if you are truly Christ's, you can say, "Nothing
pains me so much as sin; I desire to be rid of it; Lord, help me to be
holy." Is this the panting of thy heart? Is this the tenor of thy life
towards God, and his divine will? Again, in Philippians, 3:13, 14, we
are told of "The high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Is then your
calling a high calling? Has it ennobled your heart, and set it upon
heavenly things? Has it elevated your hopes, your tastes, your desires?
Has it upraised the constant tenor of your life, so that you spend it
with God and for God? Another test we find in Hebrews 3:1-"Partakers of
the heavenly calling." Heavenly calling means a call from heaven. If
man alone call thee, thou art uncalled. Is thy calling of God? Is it a
call to heaven as well as from heaven? Unless thou art a stranger here,
and heaven thy home, thou hast not been called with a heavenly calling;
for those who have been so called, declare that they look for a city
which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God, and they
themselves are strangers and pilgrims upon the earth. Is thy calling
thus holy, high, heavenly? Then, beloved, thou hast been called of God,
for such is the calling wherewith God doth call his people.

My Utmost For His Highest : "After God's Silence - What?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 11, 2007

AFTER GOD'S SILENCE - WHAT?

When He had heard therefore that he was sick, He abode
two days in the same place where he was.

John 11:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+11:6&sr=1

Has God trusted you with a silence - a silence that is big with
meaning? God's silences are His answers. Think of those days of
absolute silence in the home at Bethany! Is there anything analogous
to those days in your life? Can God trust you like that, or are you
still asking for a visible answer? God will give you the blessings
you ask if you will not go any further without them; but His silence
is the sign that He is bringing you into a marvellous understanding
of Himself. Are you mourning before God because you have not had an
audible response? You will find that God has trusted you in the most
intimate way possible, with an absolute silence, not of despair, but
of pleasure, because He saw that you could stand a bigger revelation.
If God has given you a silence, praise Him, He is bringing you into
the great run of His purposes. The manifestation of the answer in
time is a matter of God's sovereignty. Time is nothing to God. For a
while you said - "I asked God to give me bread, and He gave me a
stone." He did not, and to-day you find He gave you the bread of
life.

A wonderful thing about God's silence is that the contagion of His
stillness gets into you and you become perfectly confident - "I know
God has heard me." His silence is the proof that He has. As long as
you have the idea that God will bless you in answer to prayer, He
will do it, but He will never give you the grace of silence. If Jesus
Christ is bringing you into the understanding that prayer is for the
glorifying of His Father, He will give you the first sign of His
intimacy - silence.

Mustard Seed Thought: God's Promises Four

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in
your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans
10:9 NIV

Read that verse again. What does it say?

Does it say "believe and belong to the right church?"

Does it say "believe and follow these rules?"

Does it say "believe and grow up in the church?"

Does it say "believe and 'my parents were Christians'?"

No, it says believe; confess and believe. God's promise of salvation is not
complicated. Sometimes we try to make it difficult. Sometimes we think
it is not strict enough or that it doesn't demand enough from us. The
Bible says that all men are sinners, and that the punishment of sin is
death. We are born under this curse of death. God does not judge us by
the standards of this world. He judges us by the standards of His
holiness, and to this comparison we fall far short. None of us can
measure up to God's perfect standard for our life.

That's why we need a Savior. That's why Jesus came, as the perfect sacrifice,
to live a perfect life, allowing Himself to be crucified, then being
raised from the dead and seated at the right hand of the Father,
interceding on our behalf, so that all who will believe in His Name will
be saved. Now, it should be noted that this is not a half-hearted
belief. It is belief in Jesus and Jesus alone for salvation!

Notice also that this verse does not say "we might be saved" or
"there is a good chance we will be saved" or "we have hope of
salvation". It says WE WILL BE SAVED! Period. End of story. It's a
promise of God. We can depend on it!

Have you done what this verse says? Have you believed in Jesus Christ as
your salvation? If you have, then you and I will one day join together
at the Throne of God to fully reflect on His Glory. I'll see you there!
If you have, then I have a second question. Are you living like one who
is the child of a King? Are you living out your Christian experience to
the fullest? One of the great parts of being in the family of God is
that we get to enjoy the benefits of Heaven today! Are you enjoying the
Christian life?

(Save me a seat next to you in Heaven if you get there before me!)

Praying with Paul : "The Glory of God"

THE GLORY OF GOD

Ephesians 1:20-22

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+1:20-22

Dear Father, God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory.

Help me grasp something of your glory as I compare my experience
to the great power which you displayed when you raised Christ from
the dead. You made him sit down at your right hand in the heavenly
places, far above every rule and authority and power and dominion.

Help me understand even more as I contemplate the fact that you
lifted Jesus' name above every other name that is named, not only
in this age but in the age to come, and that you put all things
under his feet.

In the name of this magnificent Savior. Amen.

WJD! -- Longing for the Son of Man -- Luke 17:22-24

Longing for the Son of Man

Then Jesus said to his followers, "The time will come when
you will want very much to see one of the days of the Son of
Man, but you will not be able. People will say to you, 'Look,
there it is!' or, 'Look, here it is!' Stay where you are;
don't go away and search. "{You will know it} when the Son of
Man comes again. On the day when he comes he will shine like
lightning flashes across the sky."

-- Luke 17:22-24 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus warns about two things important to disciples. First, they will
long for the presence of the Son of Man -- in other words, Jesus will
be leaving them. Second, after Jesus has returned to God, people will
make false claims that Jesus has returned and trouble his disciples
into thinking they have missed his return. To the latter warning, Jesus
makes a promise that when he returns, no one will miss his coming and
no one will doubt his return. His return will be as clear as lightning
which shatters the darkness of the night sky. As Christians, we wait in
hope for this day and we long for the appearing of the Son of Man.
Until that day and while we feel this longing, let's make every moment
count as we live to honor our returning Lord and King!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
God, my Abba Father, I long for the day I come home to you and share in
the glory of your Son and the angels that will accompany him on his
return for your children. Until that day, empower me to live boldly for
you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Psalm 96:9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 11, 2007

VERSE:
Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before
him, all the earth.
-- Psalm 96:9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+96:9

THOUGHT:
Don't you really appreciate the phrase "the splendor of his
holiness" and long to behold that splendor? It conjures up
reminders of Isaiah's encounter with God in Isaiah 6 or John's
vision of Jesus in Revelation 1. God's essence -- known in the Old
Testament as his glory and his holiness -- can be described only as
splendorous! Our only fitting response is to join the angels of
Isaiah 6 and the twenty-four elders around the throne in Revelation
and worship God and cry, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God
Almighty. The whole earth is full of his glory."

PRAYER:
You are holy, majestic God, more than my mind can grasp or my
imagination can dream. I worship and praise you for your glory,
might, grace, and mercy. I hunger for the day when I can see your
splendor face to face and join the angels of heaven and the
twenty-four elders in never ending worship and praise. Through
Jesus I offer this praise and my life. Amen.
