Today's Verse : Colossians 1:13

December 3, 2007

VERSE:
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought
us into the kingdom of the Son he loves...
-- Colossians 1:13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+1:13

THOUGHT:
God doesn't just hear our cries for deliverance; he sends a
powerful Deliverer! God sent Moses in response to the Israelites'
cries from Egypt (see Exodus 3). God also sent Jesus in response to
the world's cries for deliverance from its bondage to the evil
prince of darkness. Our new world, our Kingdom, is built on love --
the sacrificial love of a Savior who not only conquered death for
us, but gave himself up to do so. Jesus is not only our rescuer
(saves us FROM something), he is also our Savior (also saves us FOR
something as well)!

PRAYER:
Loving and eternal God, in Jesus you reached down to my limited
and mortal world and rescued me from its mortal limits. Thank you
for breaking the strangle hold of death. Thank you for using love
to break down the barriers that kept me from you. Thank you for
rescuing me and bringing me into your family and your Kingdom. I
offer you my thanks, service, and praise in Jesus' name. Amen.

[King] David certainly was aware that his lust for power had

how are we to deal with such ambition? Our longing after Christ
must exceed our need for status in the world.

Praise the Lord, by Tom Norvell

The finale of praise that crowns the collection of Psalms calls us to
praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord.

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150 TNIV)

We sing these familiar words,

Help us to praise You on all occasions.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Amen.
(Thomas Ken, 1695)

Father, help us to realize that You are the source of all our
blessings. You, God, are the source. You are the one who gives all
blessings. Remind us every day that everything we have has come from
You. Nothing, absolutely nothing, we have has come from us or by our
efforts. You have given the powers of government their powers. You have
established Your church for Your purposes. You have placed the people
in our lives who have taught us, guided us, protected us, nurtured us,
and encouraged us. God, You are the source of all our blessings. So, we
praise Him.

Father, help us join in the praise from all Your creatures. All Your
creatures praise You. Everything that has breath praises You. All the
creatures that inhabit the earth praise You. All the creatures that
live in the forests and the jungles praise You. All creatures that
dwell high in the mountains praise You. All the creatures that hide in
the bushes around our houses praise You. All the fish that swim in the
sea, in the rivers, in the lakes, and in ponds and streams praise You.
All the birds that fly in the sky praise You. All creatures . . . those
that are great and small, those that are strong and weak praise You.
Let us join with all creatures as we praise You.

Father, help us to praise You on all occasions. Whether inside an
earthly sanctuary or outside under the mighty heavens, we want to
praise You. Wherever we go, whatever we do, when we rise in the
morning, as we go about our daily tasks, and we lie down at night
before we want to fall to sleep praising You. We want to praise You all
the time. We praise You freely and without reservation. We want to
praise you during the holidays when many focus upon your goodness and
greatness and on routine days when many forget your providential care.
We want to praise You all the time for Your power and Your greatness.

Father, at all times and in everything we do, we praise You; for we
know that all blessings come from You.

Morning & Evening -- Song of Solomon 4:7 and Ecclesiastes 1:14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, December 2, 2007

MORNING:

"Thou art all fair, my love."
-- Song of Solomon 4:7

The Lord's admiration of his Church is very wonderful, and his
description of her beauty is very glowing. She is not merely fair, but
"all fair." He views her in himself, washed in his sin-atoning blood
and clothed in his meritorious righteousness, and he considers her to
be full of comeliness and beauty. No wonder that such is the case,
since it is but his own perfect excellency that he admires; for the
holiness, glory, and perfection of his Church are his own glorious
garments on the back of his own well-beloved spouse. She is not simply
pure, or well-proportioned; she is positively lovely and fair! She has
actual merit! Her deformities of sin are removed; but more, she has
through her Lord obtained a meritorious righteousness by which an
actual beauty is conferred upon her. Believers have a positive
righteousness given to them when they become "accepted in the beloved"
(Eph. 1:6). Nor is the Church barely lovely, she is superlatively so.
Her Lord styles her "Thou fairest among women." She has a real worth
and excellence which cannot be rivalled by all the nobility and royalty
of the world. If Jesus could exchange his elect bride for all the
queens and empresses of earth, or even for the angels in heaven, he
would not, for he puts her first and foremost-"fairest among women."
Like the moon she far outshines the stars. Nor is this an opinion which
he is ashamed of, for he invites all men to hear it. He sets a "behold"
before it, a special note of exclamation, inviting and arresting
attention. "Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair"
(Song of Sol. 4:1). His opinion he publishes abroad even now, and one
day from the throne of his glory he will avow the truth of it before
the assembled universe. "Come, ye blessed of my Father" (Matt. 25:34),
will be his solemn affirmation of the loveliness of his elect.

EVENING:

"Behold, all is vanity."
-- Ecclesiastes 1:14

Nothing can satisfy the entire man but the Lord's love and the Lord's
own self. Saints have tried to anchor in other roadsteads, but they
have been driven out of such fatal refuges. Solomon, the wisest of men,
was permitted to make experiments for us all, and to do for us what we
must not dare to do for ourselves. Here is his testimony in his own
words: "So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me
in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. And whatsoever mine eyes
desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for
my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my
labour. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and
on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity
and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun." "Vanity
of vanities, all is vanity." What! the whole of it vanity? O favoured
monarch, is there nothing in all thy wealth? Nothing in that wide
dominion reaching from the river even to the sea? Nothing in Palmyra's
glorious palaces? Nothing in the house of the forest of Lebanon? In all
thy music and dancing, and wine and luxury, is there nothing?
"Nothing," he says, "but weariness of spirit." This was his verdict
when he had trodden the whole round of pleasure. To embrace our Lord
Jesus, to dwell in his love, and be fully assured of union with
him-this is all in all. Dear reader, you need not try other forms of
life in order to see whether they are better than the Christian's: if
you roam the world around, you will see no sights like a sight of the
Saviour's face; if you could have all the comforts of life, if you lost
your Saviour, you would be wretched; but if you win Christ, then should
you rot in a dungeon, you would find it a paradise; should you live in
obscurity, or die with famine, you will yet be satisfied with favour
and full of the goodness of the Lord.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Christian Perfection"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 2, 2007

CHRISTIAN PERFECTION

Not as though I had already attained, either were
already perfect... .

Philippians 3:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=php+3:1&sr=1

It is a snare to imagine that God wants to make us perfect specimens
of what He can do; God's purpose is to make us one with Himself. The
emphasis of holiness movements is apt to be that God is producing
specimens of holiness to put in His museum. If you go off on this
idea of personal holiness, the dead-set of your life will not be for
God, but for what you call the manifestation of God in your life. "It
can never be God's will that I should be sick." If it was God's will
to bruise His own Son, why should He not bruise you? The thing that
tells for God is not your relevant consistency to an idea of what a
saint should be, but your real vital relation to Jesus Christ, and
your abandonment to Him whether you are well or ill.

Christian perfection is not, and never can be, human perfection.
Christian perfection is the perfection of a relationship to God which
shows itself amid the irrelevancies of human life. When you obey the
call of Jesus Christ, the first thing that strikes you is the
irrelevancy of the things you have to do, and the next thing that
strikes you is the fact that other people seem to be living perfectly
consistent lives. Such lives are apt to leave you with the idea that
God is unnecessary, by human effort and devotion we can reach the
standard God wants. In a fallen world this can never be done. I am
called to live in perfect relation to God so that my life produces a
longing after God in other lives, not admiration for myself. Thoughts
about myself hinder my usefulness to God. God is not after perfecting
me to be a specimen in His show-room; He is getting me to the place
where He can use me. Let Him do what He likes.

Praying with Paul : "Preparing for the End"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

PREPARING FOR THE END

Philippians 4:7-11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+4:7-11

Dear Father, victorious deliverer,

May I be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based
on rule-keeping but that which is through trust in Christ, the
righteousness of God that depends on trust, that I may know him and
the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings,
becoming like him in his death, that if possible, I might attain
the resurrection of the dead.

O God, let me obtain it! Let me be awake! Let me put on the armor
of light! Let me put on the Lord Jesus and his righteousness, and

Just as Jesus Said

The Day of Unleavened Bread came. This was the day when the
Jews always killed the lambs for the Passover. Jesus said to
Peter and John, "Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to
eat." Peter and John said to Jesus, "Where do you want us to
prepare the meal?" Jesus said to them, "Listen! After you go
into the city (Jerusalem), you will see a man carrying a jar
of water. Follow him. He will go into a house. You go with
him. Tell the person that owns that house, 'The Teacher asks
that you please show us the room where he and his followers
can eat the Passover meal.' Then the man who owns the house
will show you a large room upstairs. This room is ready for
us. Prepare the Passover meal there." So Peter and John left.
Everything happened the way Jesus said. So they prepared the
Passover meal.

-- Luke 22:7-13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
While we may have as many questions about this passage as there are
answers, one thing is certain: when Jesus asks, his disciples obey and
they find things to be just as Jesus said. So how are you doing in
focusing on the Lord and his words? Why not rev up your commitment to
read through each of the Gospels at least once as Christmas approaches?
Ask the Father to help you to not only hear his truth revealed by
Jesus, but to also obey it!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you that Jesus' words are sure and certain. Be with me as
I seek to know your Son better, obey his words more completely, and
reflect his character more perfectly. In Jesus' name. Amen.
