=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Memorial Day, 2008, by Bill Brant

It was a haunting sound, carried by the wind as it seemed to float
around those of us gathered there. The lone bugler sounding Taps has
been the aural recognition for a person's military service from a
grateful nation.

At age 88, he had led a good life by earthly standards. His three year,
all expenses paid excursion to Europe, as a Captain in the United
States army earned him the right of this honor.

I have heard the mournful melody many times, including at the burial of
my own parents, both of whom were veterans. Since the Civil War, that
sound has marked the end of person's physical existence. And every time
I hear it, I cry. I cannot explain it, other than to say it stirs my
heart, and I acknowledge that one who served to protect me has died.

Today men and women still choose to safeguard this country, fight its
wars, and die in its service. And Taps, if requested, will mark the
occasion of their burial and the final honor from a grateful country.

I am also reminded that there is one who chose to come to an earthly
world, fight the ultimate enemy and die for me. And now He sits at
God's right hand claiming me as His! And He is protecting me from the
evil one.

Death's Dirge is overwhelmed by Resurrection's Chorus.

This Memorial Day, we acknowledge those who served our country and over
whom Taps has been played. So also should we honor the One whose death
allows us to claim victory over our enemy.

Death's Dirge is overwhelmed by Resurrection's Chorus.

Come see for yourself what I mean. Visit hopeforlife.org where you will
meet people who have seen the enemy up close and personal, or you can
add your comments to our blog. I would be most happy to hear from you.

Morning & Evening -- 1 Peter 2:3 and Genesis 42:2

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

MORNING:

"If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious."
-- 1 Peter 2:3

If:-then, this is not a matter to be taken for granted concerning every
one of the human race. "If:"-then there is a possibility and a
probability that some may not have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
"If:"-then this is not a general but a special mercy; and it is needful
to enquire whether we know the grace of God by inward experience. There
is no spiritual favour which may not be a matter for heart-searching.

But while this should be a matter of earnest and prayerful inquiry, no
one ought to be content whilst there is any such thing as an "if" about
his having tasted that the Lord is gracious. A jealous and holy
distrust of self may give rise to the question even in the believer's
heart, but the continuance of such a doubt would be an evil indeed. We
must not rest without a desperate struggle to clasp the Saviour in the
arms of faith, and say, "I know whom I have believed, and I am
persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto
him." Do not rest, O believer, till thou hast a full assurance of thine
interest in Jesus. Let nothing satisfy thee till, by the infallible
witness of the Holy Spirit bearing witness with thy spirit, thou art
certified that thou art a child of God. Oh, trifle not here; let no
"perhaps" and "peradventure" and "if" and "maybe" satisfy thy soul.
Build on eternal verities, and verily build upon them. Get the sure
mercies of David, and surely get them. Let thine anchor be cast into
that which is within the veil, and see to it that thy soul be linked to
the anchor by a cable that will not break. Advance beyond these dreary
"ifs;" abide no more in the wilderness of doubts and fears; cross the
Jordan of distrust, and enter the Canaan of peace, where the Canaanite
still lingers, but where the land ceaseth not to flow with milk and
honey.

EVENING:

"There is corn in Egypt."
-- Genesis 42:2

Famine pinched all the nations, and it seemed inevitable that Jacob and
his family should suffer great want; but the God of providence, who
never forgets the objects of electing love, had stored a granary for
his people by giving the Egyptians warning of the scarcity, and leading
them to treasure up the grain of the years of plenty. Little did Jacob
expect deliverance from Egypt, but there was the corn in store for him.
Believer, though all things are apparently against thee, rest assured
that God has made a reservation on thy behalf; in the roll of thy
griefs there is a saving clause. Somehow he will deliver thee, and
somewhere he will provide for thee. The quarter from which thy rescue
shall arise may be a very unexpected one, but help will assuredly come
in thine extremity, and thou shalt magnify the name of the Lord. If men
do not feed thee, ravens shall; and if earth yield not wheat, heaven
shall drop with manna. Therefore be of good courage, and rest quietly
in the Lord. God can make the sun rise in the west if he pleases, and
make the source of distress the channel of delight. The corn in Egypt
was all in the hands of the beloved Joseph; he opened or closed the
granaries at will. And so the riches of providence are all in the
absolute power of our Lord Jesus, who will dispense them liberally to
his people. Joseph was abundantly ready to succour his own family; and
Jesus is unceasing in his faithful care for his brethren. Our business
is to go after the help which is provided for us: we must not sit still
in despondency, but bestir ourselves. Prayer will bear us soon into the
presence of our royal Brother: once before his throne we have only to
ask and have: his stores are not exhausted; there is corn still: his
heart is not hard, he will give the corn to us. Lord, forgive our
unbelief, and this evening constrain us to draw largely from thy
fulness and receive grace for grace.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Divine Reasonings Of Faith"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 21, 2008

DIVINE REASONINGS OF FAITH

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto
you.

Matthew 6:33

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+6:33&sr=1

Immediately we look at these words of Jesus, we find them the most
revolutionary statement human ears ever listened to. "Seek ye first
the kingdom of God." We argue in exactly the opposite way, even the
most spiritually-minded of us - "But I must live; I must make so much
money; I must be clothed; I must be fed." The great concern of our
lives is not the kingdom of God, but how we are to fit ourselves to
live. Jesus reverses the order: Get rightly related to God first,
maintain that as the great care of your life, and never put the
concern of your care on the other things.

"Take no thought for your life. . . ." Our Lord points out the utter
unreasonableness from His standpoint of being so anxious over the
means of living. Jesus is not saying that the man who takes thought
for nothing is blessed - that man is a fool. Jesus taught that a
disciple has to make his relationship to God the dominating
concentration of his life, and to be carefully careless about every
thing else in comparison to that. Jesus is saying - "Don't make the
ruling factor of your life what you shall eat and what you shall
drink, but be concentrated absolutely on God." Some people are
careless over what they eat and drink, and they suffer for it; they
are careless about what they wear, and they look as they have no
business to look; they are careless about their earthly affairs, and
God holds them responsible. Jesus is saying that the great care of
the life is to put the relationship to God first, and everything else
second.

It is one of the severest disciplines of the Christian life to allow
the Holy Spirit to bring us into harmony with the teaching of Jesus
in these verses.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Heaven Three

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Heaven Three
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. Revelation 21:1-7

Sometimes I feel as though I would be taking away from the impact if I try to add commentary to Scripture. Todays passage certainly stands alone.

All I can say is that Heaven is a happy place no more tears, or crying or pain Heaven is a big place....the Bible uses words like spacious and mansions. Heaven is a final place no more dieing...dwelling of God shall be with men... and He will live with them...forever....the old order of things has passed away....

Heaven will look like perfection. Even so, come Lord Jesus!

THE FRAGRANCE OF CHRIST

2 Corinthians 2:14-16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+2:14-16

Dear Father,

Let the incense which is my life and my prayers arise as a sweet
fragrance to you.

Thanks be to you, my God, that you always lead me in triumph, and
through me, spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ
everywhere. Thank you that you have appointed Christians to be the
aroma of Christ to yourself among those who are being saved and
among those who are perishing. To the one we are a fragrance from
death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.

Who is sufficient for these things? Certainly not I! Your grace
alone upholds me.

In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Who Do They Say I Am?

Jesus and his followers went to the towns in the area of
Caesarea Philippi. While they were traveling, Jesus asked the
followers, "Who do people say I am?"

-- Mark 8:27 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
If you ask people today who they think Jesus is, you will get a myriad
of answers. Many folks don't know and quite a few don't care. The lost
world's greatest need is for Jesus' followers to both know who he
really is and demonstrate it in our lives!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father in heaven, help us -- and especially help me -- better
demonstrate who Jesus is to those around us. In Jesus name I pray.

Today's Verse : 2 Corinthians 5:21

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

May 21, 2008

VERSE:
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we
might become the righteousness of God.
-- 2 Corinthians 5:21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+5:21

THOUGHT:
Jesus was perfect, spotless, holy, righteous, and clean. Yet he
became what he hated, sin. Why would he do such a thing? Because he
loved us and wanted us to be what he is today, the righteousness of
God.

PRAYER:
Almighty and loving Father, thank you for making me holy -- your
righteousness -- by the sacrifice of Jesus. Thank you, dear Savior,
for paying such a horrible price, not just by dying on the cross,
but also by becoming my sin and carrying away my guilt. All praise
to you, dear Father, for your plan, and thanks and glory to you,
dear Jesus, for your loving sacrifice. Amen.
