Today's Verse : Lamentations 3:25

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 8, 2009

VERSE:
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who
seeks him...
-- Lamentations 3:25
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Lamentations+3:25

THOUGHT:
Out of the ashes of Jerusalem's destruction and the disaster
that befell God's people because of their repeated disobedience
comes this reminder of truth. Those who wait patiently, who hope
fervently, in the LORD will find what their souls most needs!

PRAYER:
Give me patience and faith, O God, for the times when life is
hard and everything seems to go against me. I believe that you are
good to those who have the strength to persevere, waiting patiently
in hope for your mighty deliverance. Dear Father, please give me
such strength each day because I not only want to receive your
blessing, but I also want to bring you honor. In the name of your
Son, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: New Year 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
New Year 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts

This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Genesis 6:9 NIV

What was the reason God picked Noah to build the ark? Have you ever thought about it? The awesome task was really an honor placed upon this man of God. Not only would he save his family from destruction (and that was pretty neat, I'm sure), but God had placed him in high esteem.

Noah had decided to walk with God. In the beginning, God walked with man on a regular, natural occurrence. Sin separated man from God, and now, walking with God is a choice we make in life. Noah chose to walk with God!

I was curious about the subject of walking with God, so I went to my handy computer Bible concordance. Walk, in reference to God or man with God, occurs 137 times in the Bible. I would say God is pretty serious about your walk with Him. He obviously was for Noah! How is your walk with God? Can you feel His presence? Do others notice His reflection in your eyes? What about in your behavior? To walk with God will require you to clean yourself up perhaps. It may make you study your Bible a bit more (He may quiz you along the way). You will obviously have more prayer (conversation) with Him as you walk along together. You might even feel a little pep in your step you haven't felt in a while.

Be like Noah today! Invite God on a little stroll! Choose to walk with God!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

The Hand of God, by Wesley Shutt

If you Google "Hand of God" the initial results are probably not what
you might have expected. In 1986, Diego Maradona, arguably the greatest
soccer player ever in the world, scored one of soccer history's most
controversial goals. Diego was playing for his home country, Argentina,
and his goal came against international rivals, England, during the
1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Diego leapt toward the ball that an England defender failed to clear
and discretely punched the ball into the back of the net with his hand
(the use of hands is taboo in soccer). A difficult angle for the
referees prevented them from dismissing the goal; so instead, it was
awarded. Argentina went on to become champions in the world's most
prestigious soccer tournament. The goal was soon nicknamed the Hand of
God after Diego admitted in an interview that he had scored "a little
with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God".

Accrediting the goal to God was a lighthearted attempt to deflect the
outraged objectors' cries for a more just ruling. Diego's subtle
admission of his unconventional score reminds me that God's hand is at
work in each of our lives.

"What is He working so hard at?"

Jesus told the religious leaders of his day, "My Father is always at
his work to this very day, and I, too, am working" (John 5:17 NIV).
"What is He working so hard at?" He's bringing the whole world to Him
through Jesus. He aches for us all to accept Jesus as lord of our lives
and to follow Jesus' way of living. Nonstop, God is implementing his
plan to reconcile us to him through Jesus. It is through Jesus that we
are made righteous before God. His perfect life gives precious hope to
us that are imperfect.

Have you recognized that God is working to bring you to Him?

Morning & Evening -- Philippians 1:21 and Song of Solomon 4:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

MORNING:

"For me to live is Christ."
-- Philippians 1:21

The believer did not always live to Christ. He began to do so when God
the Holy Spirit convinced him of sin, and when by grace he was brought
to see the dying Saviour making a propitiation for his guilt. From the
moment of the new and celestial birth the man begins to live to Christ.
Jesus is to believers the one pearl of great price, for whom we are
willing to part with all that we have. He has so completely won our
love, that it beats alone for him; to his glory we would live, and in
defence of his gospel we would die; he is the pattern of our life, and
the model after which we would sculpture our character. Paul's words
mean more than most men think; they imply that the aim and end of his
life was Christ-nay, his life itself was Jesus. In the words of an
ancient saint, he did eat, and drink, and sleep eternal life. Jesus was
his very breath, the soul of his soul, the heart of his heart, the life
of his life. Can you say, as a professing Christian, that you live up
to this idea? Can you honestly say that for you to live is Christ? Your
business-are you doing it for Christ? Is it not done for self-
aggrandizement and for family advantage? Do you ask, "Is that a mean
reason?" For the Christian it is. He professes to live for Christ; how
can he live for another object without committing a spiritual adultery?
Many there are who carry out this principle in some measure; but who is
there that dare say that he hath lived wholly for Christ as the apostle
did? Yet, this alone is the true life of a Christian-its source, its
sustenance, its fashion, its end, all gathered up in one word-Christ
Jesus. Lord, accept me; I here present myself, praying to live only in
thee and to thee. Let me be as the bullock which stands between the
plough and the altar, to work or to be sacrificed; and let my motto be,
"Ready for either."

EVENING:

"My sister, my spouse."
-- Song of Solomon 4:12

Observe the sweet titles with which the heavenly Solomon with intense
affection addresses his bride the church. "My sister, one near to me by
ties of nature, partaker of the same sympathies. My spouse, nearest and
dearest, united to me by the tenderest bands of love; my sweet
companion, part of my own self. My sister, by my Incarnation, which
makes me bone of thy bone and flesh of thy flesh; my spouse, by
heavenly betrothal, in which I have espoused thee unto myself in
righteousness. My sister, whom I knew of old, and over whom I watched
from her earliest infancy; my spouse, taken from among the daughters,
embraced by arms of love, and affianced unto me for ever. See how true
it is that our royal Kinsman is not ashamed of us, for he dwells with
manifest delight upon this two-fold relationship. We have the word "my"
twice in our version; as if Christ dwelt with rapture on his possession
of his Church. "His delights were with the sons of men," because those
sons of men were his own chosen ones. He, the Shepherd, sought the
sheep, because they were his sheep; he has gone about "to seek and to
save that which was lost," because that which was lost was his long
before it was lost to itself or lost to him. The church is the
exclusive portion of her Lord; none else may claim a partnership, or
pretend to share her love. Jesus, thy church delights to have it so!
Let every believing soul drink solace out of these wells. Soul! Christ
is near to thee in ties of relationship; Christ is dear to thee in
bonds of marriage union, and thou art dear to him; behold he grasps
both of thy hands with both his own, saying, "My sister, my spouse."
Mark the two sacred holdfasts by which thy Lord gets such a double hold
of thee that he neither can nor will ever let thee go. Be not, O
beloved, slow to return the hallowed flame of his love.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Intimate With Jesus"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 7, 2009

INTIMATE WITH JESUS

Have I been so long with you, and yet hast thou not
known Me?

John 14:9
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+14:9&sr=1

These words are not spoken as a rebuke, nor even with surprise; Jesus
is leading Philip on. The last One with whom we get intimate is
Jesus. Before Pentecost the disciples knew Jesus as the One Who gave
them power to conquer demons and to bring about a revival (see Luke
10:18-20). It was a wonderful intimacy, but there was a much closer
intimacy to come - "I have called you friends." Friendship is rare on
earth. It means identity in thought and heart and spirit. The whole
discipline of life is to enable us to enter into this closest
relationship with Jesus Christ. We receive His blessings and know His
word, but do we know Him?

Jesus said, "It is expedient for you that I go away" - in that
relationship, so that He might lead them on. It is a joy to Jesus
when a disciple takes time to step more intimately with Him. Fruit
bearing is always mentioned as the manifestation of an intimate union
with Jesus Christ (John 15:1-4).

When once we get intimate with Jesus we are never lonely, we never
need sympathy, we can pour out all the time without being pathetic.
The saint who is intimate with Jesus will never leave impressions of
himself, but only the impression that Jesus is having unhindered way,
because the last abyss of his nature has been satisfied by Jesus. The
only impression left by such a life is that of the strong calm sanity
that Our Lord gives to those who are intimate with Him.

Praying with Paul : "Men's Improper Conduct"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

MEN'S IMPROPER CONDUCT

Romans 1:26-31
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+1:26-31

Dear Father, judge of all,

How awful is your judgment. When men do not acknowledge you as God
and do not live by your teachings, you give them up to base minds
and improper conduct. Then they become filled with all manner of
wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder,
strife, deceit, and malignity, they gossip, slander, and hate you.
They are insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil,
disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

These are the themes of our television programs, of our books and
magazines today. And the authors of it are proud! They justify this
accursed stuff by calling it realistic!

In the name of Jesus and by his authority I pray that people
everywhere will acknowledge that truth and goodness come only from
you. Amen.

WJD! -- God's Promise Comes True -- Matthew 1:22-25

God's Promise Comes True

All this happened to make clear the full meaning of the
things the Lord said through the prophet: "The virgin will be
pregnant and will give birth to a son. They will name him
Immanuel." (Immanuel means, "God with us.") When Joseph woke
up, he did the thing that the Lord's angel told him to do.
Joseph married Mary. But Joseph had no sexual union with Mary
until she gave birth to the son. And Joseph named the son
Jesus.

-- Matthew 1:22-25 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
What if the fulfillment of God's greatest promises depended upon my
faithfulness? Ouch! That's a tough question. But verses 23-24 emphasize
how this happened with Joseph and Mary. In very simple and
straightforward terms, Matthew tells how God spoke his will through the
prophets and angels as well as how Joseph and Mary obeyed what God told
them to do. That's still the same way God's promises to people come
true today. God uses the simple obedience in matters big and small to
bring about his promised salvation. We will not always know why God
calls us to some task, challenge, or opportunity, but we can be sure
that he will use our faithfulness to him to his glory and our greater
good.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Majestic and loving God, forgive me for my lack of obedience. Please
give me a deeper understanding and appreciation of how my obedience
also helps you fulfill your promises and bring Jesus into the lives of
others. In the name of Jesus I thank you and ask for this grace. Amen.
